Ford - Explorer :: 1999 - Dry Sounding Start Ups?
A recently acquired '99 Explorer 4.0 SOHC with 140K on it, sounds like it takes too long for the oil to pressurize upon start up even if the vehicle is hot. Nothing knocks or anything, there is just a subtle but unpleasant sound for the first second or so of operation (unlike any other car I have driven.)
Is this normal? 5W-30 and a Motorcraft filter is being used. It recently had the timing chains replaced, but this sounds has been constant before and after timing chains were replaced.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Sunroof Wind Deflector Might Increase Wind Noise
My 2013 Sonata came with a sunroof wind deflector. I'm somewhat hesitant to install it, since it might increase wind noise. It also might affect MPG. I like the looks of it, at least the pics I've seen of it.

My 2009 Accent has been getting really noisy above 30 mph. The driver's side window no longer seals & at 70 mph you can't even hear the radio. Just a loud roar. The dealer said it's out of warranty (61,000+ miles) so there won't fix it. I tried putting a piece of thin plastic tube under the rubber seal to close the gap but it just raised the pitch of the noise. The problem goes away if I hold the wind lever down but once I let go, the window drops 1/4" or so & in comes the wind & noise. If I can fix this without disassembling the whole door I'd prefer that.

I have a 2007 Explorer with around 79,000 miles on it and it has been in for assorted repairs over the last 6 months. Cooling issues, Losing all Coolant, Rough sounding engine, Stalling while driving, The mechanic has said they replaced much of everything each time I take it in. But now it was in for a fuel pump and while they were test driving it he said the Internal balance Shaft exploded and shrapnel is in the engine. His solution replace the engine with a 2008 has 38k on it for $2K. Does this sound right?
Do these Explorers have issues like this?
Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Wind Noise From Sunroof
Last few weeks I've been getting a bit of a whine getting into car. I thought it was a wheel bearing but I've discovered its wind noise from the sun roof.
My question is is the glass roof easy to get out and is there a aftermarket seal available as i suspect oem one will be arm and leg.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Screeching Wind Noise After Closing Sunroof
Out of nowhere began the horrendous screeching wind noise after closing my sunroof during this morning's commute. The sunroof had been dead-quiet all the years I've owned the car. This was not a gradual event, but quite sudden, and occurred after the third closure within 20 minutes. I cycled the sunroof open and closed several times, but to no avail. After arriving at work, I inspected the channels for debris, the rubber seal for failure, and the general appearance and alignment of the glass to the opening. Everything appeared normal. The only thing that alleviated the noise was slightly opening the driver side window, but this in not an acceptable solution.

I have a lot of wind noise in my 2 front windows when driving highway speeds, no water leaks. I cannot find where it is coming from either, I assume it is either air rushing over the mirrors or thin glass. Sometimes it is worse than others, not sure if cross winds etc. Is that common in 2009 Sonata. My old 2003 Malibu, much quieter but mirrors were slightly more rounded if I remember.

My 2009 SE V6, I have the grey cloth/leather combo and the drivers seat is pretty much cracking. I am not sure if it is cheap or the unusually cold winters we had here in MD. The car has 28,000. I am going to show to the dealer because in the cracks, the dye is coming off. I had a Trailblazer LTZ for 3 years and never seen that happen but it was tan leather.
Second, my car at higher speeds has a lot of wind noise, I think it is the mirrors. I am going back to the dealer for my 30k gouging soon and I will show them the seat again.
Ford A/C :: 1999 - Clicking And Rough Sounding Noise Coming From Clutch?
I have a 1999 SD V10 with about 133K on it. Runs great to the day. Recently I noticed alot of clicking and rough sounding noise coming from the a/c compressor the other day. Yep I got up underneath it and it look like it's about shot.
My question is : How hard is it to replace the clutch yourself with a new one. Are there any step by step direction here on the ford forums on how to do it. Looks like can just replace the a/c clutch and be good to go. A/C still blows cold air.
I took it to my mechanic the other day and they want $ for a replacement compressor and labor. I'd like to try and avoid that amount for now and just replace the clutch.
Ford - Explorer :: 2006 - Clicking Noise From Dashboard When Driving
My wife and I have a 2006 Ford Explorer that my wife has "learned" to love. When we first bought it she was driving a Civic and was sure that she was never going to be able to park the Explorer without crashing. Anyway, I digress. Last summer I noticed that every time I got in to drive it (I have the 2001 Civic now) there is a "Clicking" sound coming from the dashboard. I can't pinpoint exactly where in the dash it is coming from but it drives me NUTS! My wife can easily ignore it but I can't. It seems to be worse this summer so far and it only happens in the summer.I plan to record the noise and if I am fortunate enough to be able to speak with you about it I will have the recording of it. Anyway, I can't take much more of the clicking!

Just a quick question, my 2006 4.6 explorer has a ticking noise when you first start it up. It lasts for about 10 seconds and goes away. Sounds like a valve tappet when the oil needs changed etc. It has been running 5-w-20 in it like the book says. I'm going to change it again and see if it works. Any luck changing to a different grade.10w-30?

Have an 06 2WD Explorer with 80,000mi and when driving down highway there is a bit of growling noise when any pressure is applied to the steering wheel. When driving straight not moving steering wheel its quite but when going around corner or curve tends to make noise. What I should be looking for? Brakes were replaced 10K miles ago. My daughters 07 Accent quit a few days back. She managed to get it home but it was making a noise on the left side of the block before it died again. I started it the next morning and it was rough sounding for a minute or two before it died. There has been a check engine light on for quite some time that I was unaware of. A friend had a brand new fuel pump he sold me (very cheaply) so I installed that yesterday but the starter just cranks with no combustion at all. I will check for spark this AM and if there is none I will likely replace the crank sensor.
I've checked any and all fuses under the hood and all seem fine (although I've never seen the type with the two little "balls" but they seem to by fine also) My question concerns the timing belt. If I have spark and fuel pressure, how do I check for a bad timing belt ? I looked in through the oil cap filler for cam lobes but can't see past what looks like an oil "spout" part at the filler. Also, if the belt is gone would it bend the valves on this motor ? If the belt has stripped teeth and screws the timing I should still get some sort of very rough firing in a cylinder or two, shouldn't I ?

My pickup has 316,000 miles on it. It's a 2000 ford f250 7.3 powerstroke. I have always bragged how my truck can pull anything because it has alot of power. Yesterday when pulling a 28' travel trailer up an incline I noticed I didn't have much power and it steadily got worse. Now I'm at a crawl when I hear a noise sounding like it lost air compression for a few minutes then the noise stopped. I stopped and looked to make sure everything under the hood was still attached and everything seemed fine.
I got back in and continued very slowly a few more miles home. Gauge were all good, never got hot. I put a scanner on it and it threw two codes. P1247 and P1248. I haven't noticed any unusual smoke. This is my second ford I've owned and know that when weather gets cold you may have to plug it in. But this truck it doesn't matter if it's 100 outside it will not start without plugging in for at least 1 hour. I've replaced all glow plugs hasn't worked. So I am assuming this break down now has something to do with it. I really am starting to not like fords!
Prizm - Chevrolet :: AC Making Metallic-sounding Grinding Noise When Off
About 5 years ago, my air conditioner started making a metallic-sounding grinding noise, when it is turned OFF. This noise goes away if the A/C is on. My mechanic said some part was slightly bent, bent it back, and this fixed it for a while. Eventually the noise came back but was intermittent. I drove the car for years hoping it would go away, leaving the A/C on most of the time. The noise is no longer intermittent, and my new mechanic says that it seems louder than before and if I don't get it fixed, it might cause the car to stall out.
