Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Hesitates And Dies On Light Acceleration And Shifting
My son in law's 2004 F150 had been having a random hesitation and dieing on light acceleration. Now it is every time he drives it.Here is the scenario. After taking off from a stop, with light acceleration, when speed reaches 22 mph in drive, it is like you turn the key off,,,except all the gauges still work,radio air all electrical seems to stay on,BUT the indication lights on the dash and the small red anti theft dash light for the security function comes on. If you try to continue accelerating, the truck will die, but if you let off on the gas and then continue to accelerate all is well.
I tried starting off in 2nd thinking it is a transmission problem same scenario except truck did get up to 29mph before experiencing the dieing issue. Tried starting off with Overdrive disengaged, same problem. The truck is throwing no DTC codes and Ford says unless it throws a code, they can't work on it. Truck runs great at highway speeds . My son in law says that if the truck does die,(by trying to force acceleration) he has to stop, and put the truck in neutral or park, and then it will restart. I have checked all connections at the transmission, rear end and all sensors/controls, but no solution. We are getting desperate and don' t know what else to check. It has the 5.4 engine.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2002 - Hesitates / Dies Whilst Hitting Bump / A/C On?
About 4-5 weeks ago my 2002 F-250 7.3 just died with no warning after coming off the highway and since then it hesitates/dies when hitting a bump or while applying pedal with the A/C on. The code that keeps popping up is the P0344 "CPS" and the code for back pressure sensor... I have replaced the CPS twice "making sure the 1st one was not bad", the back pressure sensor and the tube the goes the manifold, and fuel filter and still having problems... I didn't know if there could be a fuel pump issue or something else?
View 14 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2004 - Sometimes Hesitates When Backing Up
I have owned this explorer since new. It is an XLT 4 wheel drive always driven in "automatic" position. When I back up out of a parking place there is (sometimes) a noticeable momentary restriction on the right side as if I had run over something. There is no noise accompanying this. I have to be turning while backing up for this to occur. It sort of feels like the right front brake is somehow activated. Condition does not occur when backing straight. I have had the car to two different Ford dealers and they say they can find nothing wrong.
View 4 RepliesFord Fuel System :: 2002 Explorer - When Accelerate / Take Off From A Light It Hesitates
In the last month or so I'very had trouble with my 2002 Explorer having trouble accelerating. When I take off from a light it hesitates badly. It feels like it's got air in the tank. It does it every time I need to accelerate, including coming around turns. I'very put in fuel injector cleaner and it works fine for a little while, but then has the same issue. Yesterday morning it wouldn't turn over in the morning. I changed out the battery, but I had a similar issue of not turning over. It eventually did. I was wondering if the two might be related. Could it be a fuel pump or fuel pump relay?

View 1 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2007 - Hole In Transmission Cooler Line?
I have a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac v-6. This truck has been the bane of my existence since I bought it back in September, but I finally fixed all of the issues I was having and it's been great. But, today I discovered that during the most recent work, the transmission cooler line ( Ford part # 7L2Z7890A) was left unsecured against the tensioner pulley. Needless to say, today a hole appeared that gushed tranny fluid everywhere.
I have two questions please- First, need to find the hose diameter so I can do a quick fix insert long enough to drive 1 hr. home? Second, I read online that there is a fluid fill point on the passenger side of the transmission case, is this correct and do I need to be aware of anything else to add enough fluid to safely drive the 80 miles home?
I haven't lost enough fluid that my driving is becoming sluggish and hesitant, but I can tell it is very low.

View 2 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 1999 4WD - Where Does The Rear Axle Brake Line Go
I am replacing the rear steel brake lines and I have a bit of a mystery...when the lines come off the wheels, I see them going over the pineapple and it LOOKS like it's just coming down the other side into the other wheel. That should be impossible, right? How would it go about getting brake fluid into the system?
I can't see on top of the pineapple, so I don't exactly know whats going on up there. I don't see any hydraulic hose coming from the top of the pineapple. I'm currently clueless as to how the rear brake lines fit together.
Ford - Explorer :: Adding Tranny Fluid Using Cooler Line?
I live out in the sticks, and leaked out a lot of tranny fluid. the fill plug in the pan is rusted bad. can I add fluid using the cooler line and a pump? so i can drive it to the repair shop.
View 4 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 1998 - Fuel Vapor Line Connection Broken At Tank?
1998 Explorer. The fuel pump went out so today I dropped the tank to replace it. I got the 2 fuel lines off and the 2 electrical connections off with no problems but when I went to try and take the vapor line off, the tabs on the connector were brittle and broke. Now I am stuck not being able to put everything back together since that line wont lock on. I was wondering if anything I can do.
I have tried looking online to no avail except for one site selling ford part that has this line for almost 300 dollars. It is just a plastic line that leads to a metal line. Even the Ford Parts site doesn't carry it! That's insane! I was thinking of cutting the plastic line off where it meets the metal line and using rubber fuel line with hose clamps on the line and the plastic fitting on the tank. I just dont know if this will be good enough.
Ford - Explorer :: 2002 - Oil Cooler - Coolant Leak On One Of External Line / Hose Bib Elbow
The oil cooler mounted above the oil filter on my 2002 Explorer 4.0L V6 has a major coolant leak on one of the external line/hose bib elbow. I've googled Explorer oil coolers and I've searched this forum with no luck. Can you bypass it without any problems mechanically or electronically (throwing error codes)? I have already purchased a new cooler and the lower oil cooler line. I'm just wondering if I should return the parts and bypass it. If I go through the replacement, I noticed the cooler is mounted by a pass through threaded tube with a hex head molded into it for fastening/loosening purposes. What size hex head socket it is?

View 2 RepliesFord :: Explorer 2003 Dies When Passenger Rides
My 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac only dies when someone rides in the front passenger seat. Then it won't start for at least 30 min to an hour. The time seams to vary. There is no warning light, no motor sounds or any kind of warning at all. It just dies. When trying to start it cranks great, no signs of battery drain. I think it's the auto shutoff wiring in the floorboard that goes to the reset button for the fuel pump. I tok it to a dealer and they put in a new fuel pump. $1000 later that night it did the same thing. I had a friend in the passenger seat. I took it back the next morning and they kept it for 3 days but could never get it to die. So my thought is they never had a passenger. I tested it myself in my driveway and stomped my feet around the floor and it died.
View 4 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2000 - Dies When Shifted Into Reverse?
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4, powered by the 4.0L SOHC V6 engine, with a 5R55E transmission. It now has this issue of stalling and dying when shifted from park to reverse. This can be prevented by applying the gas immediately after shifting, however, my wife cannot do this. (she is very temperamental, and doesn't remember that this issue occurs decently often now, so if it happens once, she bites my head off because I haven't fixed this issue yet) I do not see this as the valve body issue, because the tranny shifts fine, and I have engine braking ability, still. What causes this, and what I can do to fix it?

View 19 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2001 - Starts Then Sputters / Dies And Won't Restart Again?
I have been having issues with my 2001 sports trac 4x4 v6 sohc fuel in. 132k mileage. The problem is I can jump in and it will start first try, fuel pump is heard activating, idle is rough, feels like truck is about to die, pumping on the gas usually causes it to catch and smooth out......after 10 mins. or sometimes less than that truck starts to sputter, step on throttle it dies faster, sometimes when stepping on the throttle before it dies and a truck is able to rev up and then back to idle and not die.
But most times stepping on the gas when it begins to sputter after running for 10 mins or so causes it to die once it dies it doesn't start back up and when key is turned on and off, no fuel pump activation noise. I have scantool data take off an autel 619 saved to notebook text format. Those are my numbers for the scan tool, suggestions I have gotten so far are vacuum leak, failing fuel pump, bad o2 sensors, bad MAF.......so far replaced fuel filter and cleaned MAF....no difference.

I have a 2004 Explorer with the V6 engine. Twice I have had the engine die while I was setting the cruise control at speeds around 35 MPH. I shift into neutral and it starts right up but it sure startles you when it seems that you can't turn the steering wheel. What causes this?

View 3 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 1998 - Rough Idle Sometimes / Dies Completely Without Warning
ok, 3 times now I've been extremely close to being hit head on by oncoming traffic due to a seemingly uncurable stalling problem. It idles rough sometimes, and other times it seems fine. BUT when sitting at a light, waiting to turn left after the oncoming traffic has a quick opening, I start to go, I get halfway across the intersection and then without warning, it dies completely. Now its too late to stop and back up- and the cars are flying head on towards you locking up they're brakes. One time I would have been killed by the 18 wheeler that was coming if I hadn't gotten it started and moving again just in time.
I replaced the IAC, the plugs, filters and wires, and the EGR valve. I checked everywhere for intake leaks and found nothing. Changed the O2 sensors since they had plenty of mileage on em. It idles like crap still, even after 30+ tanks of every kind of injector cleaner they make. We used the snap on scanner tool to monitor things and it never acted up then. The TPS seems to move smoothly, and fuel pressure was checked and found to be around 25-30 psi. Don't know if that's normal. The intake air temp was reading a constant 120 degrees F. I also checked the fuel cap to make sure it was closing completely. The dealer checked the TB for excessive clearance and said it was ok.
It seems to only stall like that after driving on the highway and then stopping at the first light after that.
