Ford - Explorer :: Cruise Control At 35 MPH - Braking Downhill Shuts Off Engine
I drive a 2005 Ford Explorer (automatic) with 84k miles on it. Recently when I was driving on cruise control at 35 mp/h down a hill and applied the breaks to make a turn, the engine completely shut off. The lights came on, the power steering went off, the engine had shut off. I pulled over, turned the key off, turned it back on and it started no problem. I drove it for 3 days without problems (and without using cruise control of course), then I took the car to a shop. They ran diagnostics on it, test drove it, but couldn't find anything wrong with the cruise control or the transmission. I don't think they tested this driving downhill as the shop is not in a hilly area. Tonight, I went down the same road again, 35 mp/h in cruise control, slowed down for the same turn, and the engine shut off again exactly the same way it did before. What this could be?

Cruise control is not working on my 00 Explorer. The horns were not working as well so I assumed the clockspring at first. Upon checking out the underside I found that the horns were not grounding properly. Cleaned up some rust and installed new ones. Good as gold. The cruise is still a problem though. The lights are also out on the steering wheel. I checked all the fuses associated with it and they are all good. What else could be the cause of this. Clockspring still possibly?

On my in laws 2000 explorer the cruise control does not work. When driving and activating the cruise control (on, then set), the cruise-control dash light comes on for a fraction of a second and goes off again. Tried it at freeway speeds.
Any clue ? I heard there is a separate brake switch for the cruise control and one for the brake lights. The brake lights operate normal. Could it be the other switch ? If so where is this switch ? Under the dash or under the hood ?
Alero :: 2003 Fan Doesn't Work - Cruise Control Dies
For a while now when i would turn my fan on, from off, the lights showing the air inflow, etc. fade out and i get no air intake what so ever. The light is on when the dial is switched into the off position, but when i go from level 1 and up the power dies out. Intermittently it will turn on, but often for brief moments of time. Also when it IS on i get a permanent "cruise" light that stays on however my cruise control doesnt work when this is going on.
The light is just on. When it does decide to work and i turn my cruise control on it works up until my fan dies out again (they are on and off at the same times) and thus, the cruise control dies again. I took apart my heater circuit board in hopes that it would solve the problem, and for about a week it did. However it ceased to work yet again. I went and pulled one from a scrapped car to see if replacing the unit would solve the problem, but this one is not having any better luck.
Ford - Explorer :: 1994 - Cruise Control Stopped Working - Clock Spring
I have a 1994 Ford Explorer and the cruise control stopped working about a year ago. The horn still works. I changed the fuse but it's still not working. My mechanic checked the cruise control, and was able to determine it was either the clock spring or the control module located above the glove box. He told me it was most likely a bad clock spring, especially considering the number of miles on the truck (385,000). However, in speaking with a Ford dealership parts department, the '94 Ford Explorer does not have a clock spring. So, I'm back to square one.

So I've been away a long time. My sister recently bought a 1997 Ford Explorer with the V8. When she tries to turn on the cruise she says it throws the transmission in to neutral and then locks the gas pedal...

My mechanic can't find the problem. Engine light comes on. Along with the flashing cruise control. His diagnostic doesn't show him the exact problem as the voltage changes. He has checked everything related, changed out the bank 2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor, but can't find the problem. I don't know the diagnostic code. But he says that it doesn't give him an exact code. Can only the dealer do this? Car runs fine.
View 10 RepliesSubaru - Outback :: 2010 - Brake Warning / Traction Control / Cruise Control / Check Engine Light Came On?
My 2010 Subaru Outback recently surprised the hell out of me by simultaneously turning on the brake warning light, the traction control light, the check engine light and (just for a bonus!) disabled my cruise control while flashing the cruise control light. I pulled over, quickly surmising that all of those systems could not have failed at 70 MPH without instantaneous death to either me or the vehicle. Both apparently still being alive, I tried turning the car on an off to reset the lights. No go. Subaru was not going to miss this chance to get me to the dealership! (who I had avoided to this point!) As I was far away from home and the car being very healthy, it seemed, I decided to drive on. I proceeded to put a couple of hundred more miles on the car before I got back to town.
My car had 39,000 miles on it, 3,000 miles beyond the warranty end. I learned that I have an error code of P0171, "Fuel Trim Malfunction (Air/Fuel too lean)". So I guess I'm wondering about a few things...why would this sensor set off every light on my dashboard and disable my cruise control? Seems a bit overblown for running a bit lean. My gut tells me Subaru has a sensor/software problem they are not owning up to. I'm a big fan of conspiracy theories and this really smells like one...
Second, jeez, I'm only 3K miles over warranty, don't you think they'd cut me some slack. I mean I love my Subaru, or did anyway, until this happened. Now it's just another POS car that breaks for no apparent reason...
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: How To Add Cruise Control
How to add factory cruise to my 2005? I am hoping it is as simple as swapping the steering wheel and having dealer turn on cruise in the PCM.

1997 Ford Explorer 4.0L the engine just died while idling. The engine will not turn over at all. Battery and cables are good. Able to get engine to turn over with screw driver on starter relay but still won’t start. Checked spark when bypassing relay with screw driver and spark is Ok.

My 04 f150 fx4 has some cruise control issues. The cruise doesn't work at all and the self test doesn't do anything on my truck either. I tested the disengage switch which tested good but replaced it anyway. I've checked all brake lights and replaced the 3rd light which was burned out. I've unplugged the brake switch and reconnected in case of loose connection with no luck. I removed the brake switch and tested as follows.
Top to bottom pins 1-6 for sake of this discussion. Pins 1 and 2 no continuity until brake button is pressed. Pins 3 and 4 are blank so no test performed. Pins 5 and 6 tested the same as 1 and 2 so am I correct in saying the switch is good? My truck will shift through all gears and back without ever applying the brakes. Bad shift interlock inside the shift console? I haven't torn into that yet but it's the only thing left I can think of. Is there any tests to be run on it with a multimeter?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Cruise Control Not Working
I just bought this truck, a 2004 F150 Lariat, 4x4. It is in great shape, but seems to have a problem with the cruise control... I have been reading different things, but one thing I just discovered is that with the key ON, the brake pedal NOT depressed, I can shift the truck into gear. I know that's not right. So am I needing that switch above the brake pedal and will that fix my cruise control as well?

I'm working on a 04 F150 Fx4, cruise control is not working at all, but I can't seem to find the cruise module under the hood. I haven't worked on this year before so I'm not familiar with the layout under the hood. Also, is there a brake pressure sensor on the 04 (new style) like there is on the '03 and below style? there isn't one on my master cylinder, so where would it be? Where to look? Why the cruise wouldn't be working?
View 2 RepliesFord Excursion :: When The Engine Is On Horn And Cruise Control Not Working
Many of you said it was the "ClockSpring" that needed to be replaced. But I already did that. A brand new clockspring on it. The horn only blows when the engine is off and when the engine is on the horn and Curse Control don't work. I have a 2001 Excursion. So What could the problem be? It works with the keyless remote. But just when you driving down the street and some bone head cut you off you can't just it.

I have a 2003 F150 4x4. One day my cruise control was working fine and the next it wouldn't work at all. When I push the set button the little green light in the dash blinks on then off and the cruise won't set. Any way that I can check to see what it might be myself or am I going to have to pay a dealer to fix it?

I have an 06 F150 4x4 crew cab w/ 108k miles and the 5.4 flex fuel v8. I'm getting a pretty bad jerk while using the cruise control and going down hill, seems almost like it is turning the cruise on and off rapidly while it is rolling. And if so, were you able to fix it and what was the fix? It works perfectly on level road or going uphill, just does this going downhill, very consistently. No lights on the dash, and no other issues.

So, I installed a new radio lately (Poineer 4100 NEX- nice radio, BTW). Yesterday, I ran a couple video wires through the firewall for new backup cameras. Anyway, after I was done, my brake lights and cruise control didn't work.
After a little Googling, I decided it my have something to do with the electrical switch on the brake pedal. So, I wiggled the brake switch a bit and the brake lights are working again. I must have bumped or bent something while I was running wires.
Was/is my switch out of alignment or is this a sign my switch may be going out. Should I replace the switch?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Cruise Control Stopped Working
Over the last couple months when I started driving, I noticed that the cruise control wasn't working at all. The next time I would start it was working again. It "stopped" working a few times.
The last time it stopped working was about a week ago, and hasn't worked since. I have read about horn relay fuses, tail light fuses, some sort of module on the engine. Where should I start?
