Ford - Explorer :: 2005 - Vibration In Drive Train Above 62 Mph?
Before I take my dads truck to the mechanic. He noticed a "noise" when running highway speeds, which does not occur often for his truck..a beautiful 2005 Eddie Bauer Explorer with the 5.0 V8. I need this checked as I drag a boat to the Fl Keys from NJ in 3 weeks and the truck needs to be 100%. He just replaced the tires as his mechanic told him it was tire whine, which you hear and dont feel. The wheel bearings have been replaced in the last 2 years and they just did ball joints. I drove it up the highway tonight and felt it right at 62 mph..go faster it got more pronounced and you could feel it in the drivers seat...not vibration on the steering wheel..above 85 and it kind of smoothed out, drop below 62 and it goes away..makes no difference if you are in the gas or not..feels like something spinning out of balance....I ran it for 30 minutes at 75 and then pulled into a Lowes parking lot and drove one set of tires up onto a curb so I could fit under the truck..I started at the back and touched everything in the drivetrain for see if anything was hot..the rear differential was warm, the ujoints were not, the transfer case was warm as was the front differential, but none of the u joints or cv joints were warm... 2005 Explorer 100,000k miles...

Whats making the vibration & noise, my 2006 Explorer V8 LTD 4X4 is making a weird noise (vibration) & I think its the front drive shaft CV between the transfer case & the front differential........ this happens when I`m moving & at any speed, I have brand new tires.

I have an 02 Eddie Bauer V8 AWD that is making a ticking noise at low speeds ( under 10mph ) on the pass. side. It sounds like a rock in a hubcap noise. I have pulled the wheels and checked the CV boots and they are fine.

My husband had my tires replaced this week. I drive a 2008 Ford Explorer. The car has been running fine - no problems what so ever. Now there is a sound when I turn or go quite slowly. We live on a street that is 25mph so we go slowly to start. I hear the sound while going straight at slower speeds, but also when turning - almost at full lock. It is difficult to describe the sound - not grinding and not screeching. Its almost as if I turned the wheel too far. The sound when running straight is lower maybe rubbing. The sound seems to be coming from the right side of the car. I can also feel the sound, but it isn't a strong vibration. My husband drove the car and said he felt nothing (of course - just like TV repair man syndrome). All 4 tires were replaced. Hubby checked the nuts - says they were alright.
View 5 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 - Clattering Noise Coming From Suspension Or Drive Train - Backing Plate Gone?
So on my 2003 F250 SCLB 4x4, I I was driving 70 or 80 miles to Huron in Ohio, to pick up a boat for a buddy with my truck. On the way up I heard a new clattering noise coming from the suspension or drive train, and we couldn't figure out what it was. After picking up the boat and coming back home without a problem, I looked under the truck and couldn't see any U-joints loose, But I saw that my right rear backing plate was disintegrated and gone. I took the truck to the shop and they said that the noise I'm hearing is the guts of the emergency brake pads and pins bouncing around in there when I drive and that my rear wheel could lock up at any time.
View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: Vibration In Drive Train Only Occurred Around 55 Mph
My X has had a vibration in the drive train since I bought it. I have been through 3 sets of tires and a new rear end with no significant change.
I recently replaced the u-joints, and the vibration changed. Instead of being pronounced upon deceleration, the vibration was somewhat lessened, and only occurred around 55 mph when the truck was neither accelerating or decelerating; when the throttle and speed were at an equilibrium. It was reduced further when I reduced the air pressure in the tires. It is reduced, but is still there.
I would like to get this fixed before my spring break trip.
Explorer :: 2003 Ford Sport Trac XLT V6 4.0 - Hesitation / Jerking When Slightly Hitting Brake Constantly
2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT v6 4.0 with 89k.
Lately my truck has been acting funny. About 1 out of 3 times I start my truck and put it n reverse it starts doing what I would describe as a hesitation. If I sit for about 10 seconds, it will stop. But if I move while it is happening it will move and jerk as if i was slightly hitting the brake constantly (no the parking break is not on). It will continue when I throw it in drive until I give it some gas. From then on as far as I can tell there are no problems. It doesn't do it every time. I went in for an oil change and they told me I will need to replace the belt soon, so could that be the culprit?
S-10 :: 2003 4 Wheel Drive With Automatic Transmission - Front Axle Will Not Engage
Its a automatic transmission with a v6 4.3 vortec. The front axle will not engage, it is not the acuator (I replaced it and the cable) you can pull the cable and the axle will engage. There is a low buzzing noise(coming from the drivers side) until you give it gas. This noise stops when the front axle is engaged. The transfer case will go from hi to low without any problems.

I've had my truck start making a nice CLUNK from the vicinity of the rear axle when starting moving from a standstill. (and it's a pretty decent thunk sometimes, you hear it AND feel it). I called and made an appt to bring it in and have it checked out (also having the first oil change done and gonna see if they can figure out why the automatic headlights are almost always on even on a bright sunny day) ...
View 14 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2010 F450 - Drive Train Shudder At 40 Mph
I have a 2010 f-450 with 87K miles. 6.4 engine, auto trans, 4wd, and 4.11 rear. All seems fine in the earlier gears....in the later gears...at around 40mph...there's a very noticable shudder...enough to cause you to slow it down...since the shudder shakes the truck...then at about 35mph...it stops. repeat the speeds...shudder repeats.
Trans fluid is clear and all vehicle fluids and filters have been changed during the 4000 miles I have owned the truck....with the correct fluids, filters, and additives. There's also what sounds like a coasting whirling noise in the torque converter area while in neutral....which may or may not be related.
The last time all was normal...a bang .....as if I ran over a cinder block (which I did not) occurred...leading me to believe a bolt or part sheared. There is no metal in the magnetic drain plug of the tranny filter.
There are no codes indicated other than ODBC drive cycle incomplete. I do not see any obvious damage on any of the universal joints...
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2013 F250 - Drive Train Shutter Upon Takeoff
Having trouble with a shutter upon take off in there drive train. It only happens when I am going straight. It does not do it when I am turning or anything. I just bought the truck used sat. It has around 18000 miles on it. I haven't had a chance to put a load on it yet to see if it does it then.

On a front wheel Cadillac (2011) DTS, can I use only two snow tires--installed in the front?? These cars have stablization systems which are profound. I never had a problem with the rear end swinging out in my 2005 Sedan de ville. It looks to me as if the tire dealers just want to sell more tires, as they all suggest 4 snow tires. Aren't the rear tires just "along for the ride?" They have no torque.

I have a 2006 f250 superduty crew cab longbed with the v10 gas motor. it has 201000 miles on it and towed great up until last month. I was towing a 5000lb trailer down the interstate at around 68mph,suddenly it was like the drive train disengaged and the motor had nothing left, check engine light on but no overheat condition or lack of oil pressure. we put a new fuel filter and pump on and maf, took trailer out again and same problem, pulled to the side and turned off, immediately restarted and ran fine. It has a cat not cleaning code in it now!

I have a problem with my transmission slipping. It seems to happen most often when I have shifted from park into drive and am going uphill. I don't really notice a problem with it when I am on flats or even at red lights. It can drift backwards for 10-15 feet before "catching."

Ford - Explorer :: 1999 XLT Transmission Taking A Couple Of Seconds To Catch In Drive
I've had a 1999 explorer for a few months. The transmission has always taken a couple of seconds to "catch" in drive and was then fine. Today, I had to tow another car a short distance and now going into drive directly is useless.
I must shift into 2nd and then back into drive. Then, for the most part, the car drives fine unless I have to put it in Park or in Reverse. Then I must repeat the procedure.
The fluid is fresh and the dipstick shows a slight overfill. Is there anything I can do about this or is this the death of the transmission. If I can run it another couple of years, I'd be satisfied.
Avalon 2005-12 :: Slight Noise From The Drive Train
Kind of stuck on a slight noise from the drive train on our 2007 Avy. It is not engine noise at a certain RPM it is from rolling at speed. I first rotated the tires and there was no difference at all. I thought it sounded like a CV going out so I replaced the left shaft. No luck. I could still hear it as it increases from nothing being stopped to being able to be felt slightly in the steering wheel either traveling straight or turning the worst between 60 and 65 MPH.
I replaced the right CV shaft and noticed slight wear in the support bearing and the support bearing bracket pinch bolt's rubber pad was worn in half. Ok, new CV shaft, new pinch bolt, tightened to specs, no luck. Ok, onto wheel bearings. I could still feel it in the steering wheel and it "sounded" like it was coming from the left side. I even rode as a passenger and moved about trying to get a better idea where it was coming from. I was convinced it was on the left so I pressed out the old bearing and installed new. No luck, same sound at the same speeds.
I replace the right wheel bearing (replacing a front wheel bearing on this car is not a fun job). Slightly better but still there. It's a subtle noise now but at the same speeds. I guess it could be a rear wheel bearing assembly but maybe I am missing something obvious.
Touareg :: Whining Or Whistling Coming From Drive Train
I have close to 60k on my V-8 and it has been virtually trouble free. The last few days I have heard what seems to be a whining or whistling coming from the drive train at the top of 3rd, then 4th,5th and 6th. Kind of sounds like metal to metal, but is a very quiet whistle.
