Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2001 GS Runs Rough On Full Tank / Fuel Smell In Car
I have recently purchased a 2001 Accent GS which has the 1.6L DOHC engine and have done a big road trip in it which has created a problem. When I fill the fuel tank up it runs really rough, has no power, and stalls at idle unless I keep the revs up. I can also smell petrol very strongly in the car all the time, plus it's running really rich as I can smell fuel on the exhaust and the last symptom is the loss of power down low(due to running rich).
I was on my road trip so had no tools on me and got the local mechanic of a small town to do a few basic things (change spark plugs, leads, and fuel filter) but to no avail. It runs smoothly when it gets below the full line on the fuel level gauge so I just didn't fill it up completely to get the car home but it still runs really rich and doesn't have quite as much power.
Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Fuel Pump Won't Run / Burnt Up?
My friends 2000(I think) explorer With the 4.0 86k has burnt up two pumps in two weeks. This last one only lasted a day. There was over half a tank of fuel in it when installed and only drove it to work and back, about 50 miles. Next morning he went to leave, nothing. Pump won't run. Checked fuses and relays they were okay. Why would this be happening?
View 2 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2000 4.0 Sometimes Will Not Start - Fuel Pump Going Out?
I have a 2000 4.0 Explorer that sometimes will not start. It has happened on cool mornings as well as hot days after I shut it off, for example, shutting it off to fuel up. I always turn the key to the on position and wait a second or two before cranking, and when I do that, I can usually hear the fuel pump. It's when I don't hear the fuel pump that I know it won't start, and sure enough, crank and no start. My question is, is the fuel pump going out? Or another thought I had was maybe the inertia switch starting to fail? It runs great when it starts, just has a problem starting sometimes.
View 8 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2002 - Either Stalls Or Starts - Runs Rough And Then Stalls With No CEL - Water In Fuel?
We've had two problems within the last week with our 2002 Sport Trac (4.0l SOHC engine w/167,xxx miles). They may be unrelated, but I suspect there's good change they are. Both incidents happened while my 16 yo daughter was driving, so there's only very limited info on what happens. Both times, when I get there, it starts and runs fine. There is no CEL.
The first time it apparently stalled as she neared her destination after driving only about 2-3 miles at 35 mph or less after a cold start. She was slowing to pull into a parking lot and reported the dash lit up with warning lights, no power steering assist and no power brakes and no power from the engine. When I arrived it started and ran normally. She had fulled up the day before after two days of heavy rain, so I suspected water in the gas. I drove it more than 200 miles within the next 24 hours under a variety of conditions and filled up at a different station. I experienced no problem what-so-ever, and didn't bother adding any dry gas.
Then 5 days later (still on my fill-up) when she tried starting it after sitting all day, she reported the engine started but ran rough before stalling and never idled normally.
Doesn't the fact there's no CEL eliminate a lot of the upstream part of the control system......like sensors and actuators? This leaves things like the downstream parts of the fuel and ignition systems. I.e. from the fuel tank / pump to the injectors and the downstream parts of the ignition system.
What are the possible culprits? Fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, ignition module, spark plugs, and....... what else? (I'm not that familiar with what these engines have) And of the possibilities, what are the most likely causes.
Ford Fuel System :: 1987 F150 Fuel Pump Runs After Key Is Off?
Why the frame mounted fuel pump might run after the key is turned off? Then when you turn the key on it may or not run. If it does run it keeps running. shouldn't this shut off after pressurizing the line? is their a pressure switch in the pump that's failing? This has the 3 pump system...
View 4 RepliesFord Fuel System :: Fuel Pump Runs Constantly
It started out w/ my wife swapping from the front fuel tank to the rear tank due to the fuel qty getting real low. Then the next day when I drove it I had bad fuel qty and amp meter indication, I found a blown fuse on my fuel qty/amp meter gauges. I replaced the fuse and got my indications back. Now I hear my front tank fuel pump is running constantly when selected to its position. Its now full of gas and still runs constantly. The rear tank/pump operates normal. I am wondering if I ran that pump empty and lost its prime? What is the best way to burp it?
View 9 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2002 - Replacing Fuel Pump?
It has been a while. My 2000 2wd 5.4 Ex has developed a issue and I'm going to say it is the fuel pump. It was right before Christmas and I went out and the truck would not start. I panicked and remembered the relay. It pressed it, it clicked and off I went. Last week I was leaving work and it did the same thing but the relay was not tripped.
I got under it and rapped the tank a couple times with a rubber mallet and it fired up just fine. Went out this morning, super cold out and nothing. Rapped on the tank, nothing. Took the other car to work and came home, rapped on it again and nothing. The fuses are good but I'm sure it is the pump because I was able to hit the tank and start it.
My question is, any write up on removing the tank or a video? I like to see what i'm up against before I start to pull it. The bad thing for me is I have a little over half a tank of gas in it and no place to put it. This is going to be fun.
Phaeton :: Bad Fuel Pump - Keep Losing Power And Runs Out Of Fuel
Stuck 398 miles from home. Car kept losing power, running out of fuel (even though I had a quarter tank). Stopped and filled it, but could only barely get to next exit. Step on gas- no go. Let off gas, car catch back up and run. Wife noticed definite new sound in back. Took her many miles and comments before it finally sunk in and I remembered the same groaning noise from a fuel pump going out on a cabrio. So, fuel pump bad.
Am preparing to go out and jump terminals, as per bentley manual. That should tell if it is transfer pump or fuel pump. My main concern now is are the pumps under the rear seat or in the trunk?
By the way, I made it to a motel (lucky enough one that accepts pets!)
Ford Wiring/Electrical :: 1992 F250 - No Start / Fuel Pump Runs All The Time When Key Is On

View 2 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Fuel Pump Runs Only When Low Beam Lights On?
Went to start my truck (2003, 7.3 F250) one evening and I found the headlights on. No keys in the ignition and the truck hadn't been driven for 2 days. There was a strong smell of plastic and or electrical components burning in the cab. The truck started without a problem. I shut it off and the lights remained on. Cycling the MFS and light switch would not turn the lights off. I had to disconnect the batteries and leave it till time allowed for trouble shooting.
I've had it in my shop for three months now and this is what I've found so far.
-Source of the burn smell is coming from the fuse panel. More specific it's coming from a bulkhead that plugs into the panel. One pin connected to a White wire with 2 purple traces. I've traced this wire to one of 2 small relay packs in the engine compartment next to the driver side fender. I've replaced the relay this white/purple wire connects to as a precaution. This did not remedy my trouble.
-The local ford dealer told me this relay was for the A/C clutch. I located a 10amp fuse in position 10 and removed it. The headlights finally turned off.
-I started the truck and the A/C compressor clutch still engaged and ran. Smoke began to pour from the fuse panel once again. I killed the truck and head lights remained off. All done with the fuse in position 10 removed.
Here's where it gets weird!
-With the key/engine off and I turn the headlight switch on and MFS to low beam the fuel pump is running. Change the MFS to high beams and the fuel pump turns off.
I've looked over the wiring harness and there are no noticeable problems indicating multiple wires being shorted. How are all these issues related?
Ford Fuel System :: 1977 - After Rebuild Runs Rough - Mixture?
I just had a former Ford tech rebuild my motorcraft 2150 2v on my '77 F250. I took it home, put it back on the truck and it ran kind of rough. I then went ahead and screwed both idle mix screws in untill seated, then back out two turns. The truck ran great, turned off truck then when it the house for dinner. Half an hour later I come back out...truck will not start, just sits and cranks. Finally got it started and it ran good, but crapped out after it warmed up. I have made sure there were no vac leaks when truck was running the first time. Did I adjust the mixture right?
The truck is a '77 F250 400/C6

View 2 RepliesChevrolet - 1500 :: 2008 - Fuel Pump Runs Without Relay?
My plan to clean the fuel injectors on my 2008 Silverado LS 4.8L V8 came to an abrupt halt when I was unable to disable the fuel pump relay because it is missing from the spot where it should be located according to the schematic in the owner's manual. Would removing the "fuel system control module" (fuse #21) instead of the fuel pump relay work?

View 6 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2002 - Fuel Pump Not Turning On
I have a 2002 ford explore 4.0 sport 4wd. I have a problem with my car, one day I tried starting the car and it didn't want to start. So i replaced the fuel filter and the car started. then after starting it a few times it didn't want to start anymore, so i took of the fuel tank (thinking bad gas, and there was stuff in the gas) so i take out the old gas out and put new gas, and bought a new fuel pump and filter, and when i put the gas tank back on the car, it still didnt want to start, so i take the fuel pump and find a random battery and connected it to the fuel pump and the pump spins so it works. I connected the pump to the car by itself not it the fuel tank (from underneath the car) and i was under the car to see if the pump turns on and someone tuned the car on, and the pump doesn't turn on (doesn't spin or anything). Long Story short, what i should do? Also I was looking for the fuel pump fuse and couldn't find it (thinking it might be the fuse) what is the fuse number or where its located.. i know where the fuel pump relay is, but just not the fuse. Why the pump wouldn't turned on??? The pic is how my fuse box looks like(there are many different version of the fuse box just wanted to show you how mine looks)...

Just did a complete engine rebuild on 2003 Explorer. All back together....have new battery, starter working, spark at plugs lol crank but no start. Next check is fuel. Fuel pump WAS working fine when timing chain guides went about a year ago...(had to rehab 2 parents and finish bath remodel before pulling engine) So... 1 year later I can't seem to get the fuel pump to work. I checked all fuses and relay. The fuel gauge is working - full tank.
