Ford Exhaust System :: CAT Delete / No Catalytic Convertor
i just bought a cherry bomb glass pack and an exhaust system from summit. I am considering running no catalytic convertor. Anything i should know? I know it wont pass inspection but my truck wont pass right now anyway. I am more concerned with loss of power, or worse gas millage....
View 4 RepliesFord Excursion :: Delete Or Bullet Proof The EGR?
So I am looking to drop some coin into my 6.0, and one of the things I have been looking at is the EGR delete, BUT, I have been reading that the delete is illegal in all 50 states. I also have been reading that newer factory computer re-flashes will now trip the check engine light, even on the 03-04's, IF they have had the delete done.
With being active duty military, I move often, and I don't want to run into an emissions issue somewhere down the line. So the question is, should I go with the delete, or replace the stock EGR with a bullet proof one? There seems to be difference between the delete kit and the bullet proof EGR.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Coolant Leak - EGR Delete Hose Replacement
Had a coolant leak I finally traced to the rubber hose on an egr delete (previous owner installed, not sure of brand). Looks like the jackwagon who installed it cranked the clamps way too tight and they eventually split the hose. I have a piece of heater hose that looks like the right diameter and cut to size should fit fine. I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that it would be ok to use in that situation...
View 3 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Oil Filtration Bypass
Opinions of the bypass filtration? I've heard some opinions that since the HUEI injectors shear the oil so badly that there is no benefit to the bypass filtration since you can't run extended intervals. I asked a reputable shop that pretty much all drive and maintain 6.0's and build parts for them, and they said it reduces the chances of stiction, improves lifter lubrication and thus lifespan, and can actually increase the intervals. Does that sound legit and justify the kit if I plan to own it until it dies?
View 12 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - Coolant System Pressure 16 Lbs?
I just did a pressure check on the cooling system on my 04 6 liter. It reached 16lbs towing an enclosed trailer and into a strong head wind. I was just wondering what's the Normal pressure suppose to be, or is there a Normal pressure. I'm using the new style cap with the larger spring in it and it didn't kick any coolant out.
View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2004 - Coolant Leak Running Down The Back Right Side Of Engine
I have an 04 Excursion with a 6.0PSD. I am currently experiencing a coolant leak, not very bad at the moment but I would like to fix it. The coolant is running down the back right side of the engine and I can see coolant pooling on the pan on top of the motor, specifically the right side. I can see some moisture on the front of the engine but it is below the top of the engine and I do not think this would be the cause since coolant won't flow up hill. I can't see or smell any coolant flowing when the engine is running but see it at idle and when parked.

I just replaced the coolant control valve. I'm hearing alot of coolant movement when I cut the car off now. I am guessing its air in the system. What is the easiest way of getting air out of the system?

New to me truck, 2004 250, bought in Aug, 110K on it.
First thing out of the gate the FICM wiring Harness was bad, so I will have to replace that, I was thinking that since I'm that far into it why not just go a little farther and have a look see at the EGR Cooler and the HPOP...
I don't get white smoke on start or any other time, seems to run fine, haven't got a scanguage yet, so no data.
Thinking about doing the EGR Delete, but not really sure on all the pro's/cons of it.
Being an 04 truck It won't throw any codes if I put in the delete, and its far more economical to do the delete, however I have heard that new ECM program/updates could cause the truck to throw a code...
Looked at BPD and their EGR oil cooler, but that is just plainly out of the budget for now.
SOOOO If I delete am I looking at a potential check engine light (god I hate those) in the future, and or issues when I go in for emissions, can they really tell its been deleted?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - IPR EGR Delete Done / Correct ID
I am going to have an IPR EGR delete done. Having a hard time telling whether I have the round or square EGR. Looking on the passenger side anywhere to look specifically so I make the correct ID. Want to order the correct one. They said build date is not a good way to ID.
View 9 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Put Transmission Fluid In Inverter Coolant System
My original intention was to replace the engine oil in the car. I was in a hurry(yes....I know) I could not find the oil drain plug. I did find a large bolt which turned out to be a drain plug for the inverter coolant instead. The instant the fluid drained from the car, I knew it was not engine oil. I did not know the drained fluid was inverter coolant. It had the color of a transmission fluid but significantly less viscous.

Actually 2 very similar questions about my Prius 2007.
1. My water pump was replaced by a dealer due to failure some half a year ago at 95,000 miles. Yesterday, after oil change (98,000), I was told it is recommended to replace engine coolant. Does this sound right? Don't they change coolant when replacing the pump?!
2. Identical question about HV pump. It was replaced at 80,000. Now they recommend do change the coolant for hybrid system. Don't they have to do it when replacing the pump?
I want to do everything necessary to maintain the car. But don't want to spend money for something that is not needed.

View 1 RepliesFord - Ranger :: 1994 - Coolant System Thumping Loudly?
I had my 94 Ford Ranger recently repaired, new water pump and coolant. Seems to run okay, but after 10 minute drive, the coolant system loudly thumps and visibly pulses as if there is steam or huge bubbles in the hoses. They are timed irregularly, but about once every 2 seconds and they quickly go away after a minute after shutting off the engin. Water temp is showing normal on the idiot gauge.

Ford Excursion :: Coolant Leak Developed After Flush
I did a coolant flush following the instructions posted on this site. In fact I did a little more than just a flush - replaced degas bottle cap, replaced thermostat and installed a coolant filtration system.
There were no leaks before I started and the only reason I did the flush was that there was green antifreeze in it.
I noticed that there was half a gallon of coolant under it in the parking lot this afternoon - the degas bottle still has coolant in it, so I drove it home and inspected the thermostat housing and top radiator hose, as well as all fittings and hoses installed as part of the coolant filter. Everything was dry.
I tracked the leak to the lower radiator hose - the one thing I did not touch as I drained from the petcock. Coolant is running down the lower radiator hose.
Could the new radiator cap have increased the pressure in the system to a point where it identified a weak point that was not leaking before?
My temps are great, ECT is stable about 188F - 190F and EOT is stable around 192F - 194F. I ran it hard and got temps up to around 200F and they both came back down to 192F range very quickly when I backed off. They were actually running about 5F higher before the flush.
I will try running the old cap to see if there is a difference, but if the lower hose is the weak point I'd prefer to replace that and run the new OEM cap.
Ford Excursion :: Leaking Coolant Whether Engine Is Running Or Not
This guy started as a slow leak. Now leaks down entire coolant res whether engine is running.or not. Appears the connection to the rest leg isn't sealed. Not sure if available from factory, or if I should cut it out and replace with barbed tee and hose clamps. That's my inclination. Not a ton of room to work with. I think it's an excursion specific thing, from pics I don't think super duty has a t there. Guessing it's where rear coolant line tees off?
View 7 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 - Cleaning Oil System After Coolant Failure?
My friend has a 2006 6.0. Blew up the egr cooler and oil cooler and now the oil is full of coolant. Brown muddy messy muck. Oil cooler is out but I'm sure the coolant oil mixture has circulated so it's probably in the HPOP and the rails to the injectors and probably in the injectors too. Everything after the oil cooler is probably contaminated.
So, aside from draining the oil from the pan and sucking up the oil mix from the top of the block, (under the cooler. ..it's out but not the hpop) how do we get this flushed out without destroying anything else?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Running Hot While Towing / Coolant System Gurgling
So a little back story. Did the oil cooler a couple of years ago as the deltas were getting high. Coolant flush and new Ford gold. Also welded EGR shut and had PHP reprogram. That was approx 25k miles ago.
Well now I have to fix the EGR because it won't pass smog. But my truck is running hot again BUT only when climbing a grade while towing my toy hauler. As soon as I crest the Temps come down fast. Also my deltas are fine normal driving, which was not the case last time I did oil cooler. My deltas were off all the time.
Also when I shut the truck off and stand in front of it after driving I can hear the coolant system gurgling.
I will be tearing my truck apart next week to fix the EGR and was thinking of doing the oIL cooler but don't want to waste money if that is not the issue. How do you tell if the water pump is bad? Also the fan is working according to scan gauge but doesn't have the big whoosh and squeal like it used to.
