Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Left Front Wheel Is Making A Rubbing Sound?
I have a 2000 Excursion 2wd. The left front wheel or something up front is making a rubbing sound when I turn to the right. Checked the brakes, they looked fine. Pulled front rotor off and replaced the wheel bearing just incase. Still making that same noise? I can't see any sign of something rubbing either on the frame, brakes lines, or control bars?
View 3 RepliesPassat - Volkswagen :: 2002 - Brakes Making Crunching Sound When Press The Pedal Down
I know that VW's are known for funky problems. Sometimes when it has recently rained heavily, the brakes will make a crunching sound when I press the pedal down, and there is also increased pressure, as if there is water stuck somewhere. It will drive fine for a few minutes and then will start shuddering, spewing exhaust, and nearly stalling. The engine light will often flash, and for this reason I brought it into my mechanic who is a VW specialist. It was first diagnosed as a faulty engine coil, and that was replaced. The problem came back repeatedly and he said I would have to wait until it "got worse" for him to figure it out. I've been riding it out since then, and once I get to my destination and the car sits for a little bit (usually 4+ hours), it runs fine again. The rainy season has started so I'm a little worried about this happening on a regular basis. This has never happened in dry weather.
View 12 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2007 - Crunching / Rattle Sound From Front Right End?
I'm hearing a crunching/rattle sound from the front right end of my 2007 B6 Wagon, 3.6L, Auto, Sport Pkg, FWD w/ 45k miles. I'll try to characterize what I'm hearing and when I hear it...
In the morning, when I've driven less than 2-3 miles and I go over a speed bump (i creep over the bumps) I hear what sounds to be like an un-oiled/worn out spring like sound coming from the front right side of the car. I don't think I hear any other sort of noise at all while driving (or if I do, it's very faint and barely noticeable).
After I've driven 25 miles or so at highway speeds (at the end of my daily commute), when I'm around 25 mph (independent of accelerating / decelerating / applying brakes) I hear what sounds to be a metal on plastic-like loose wobbling rattle (great description, right??) coming from the front right end. It gets pretty loud. However, if I go over a speed bump after having driven a good distance...guess what...no "worn out spring sound", just the rattle @ 25mph.
The rattle sound definitely 'peaks' in loudness at 25mph. If I listen carefully, I can hear it at other speeds, but it is less noticeable. I don't feel like I hear it at all at 40+ mph. I'm pretty sure the rattle is rotationally dependent (e.g. the faster wheel turn, the higher frequency of the rattle).
My tires are worn pretty unevenly, so there is a very annoying wobble/hum at all speeds, but I don't think it has to do with the tires. So to recap, it sounds like a rusty spring when going over a speed bump when the car is 'cold'. After driving a long time, no rusty-spring sound going over speed bumps, but I hear a pretty significant rattle around 25mph.
Ford Excursion :: 2001 - Front End Chirping With Sound
I have a 2001 Excursion 4x4 with 35" tires and 139,5000 miles on the clock. After driving about 20 miles yesterday while running errands, I heard a "chirping" noise. Since I had just left a stoplight, I first blamed it on the Jeep Grand Cherokee leaving the light with me. It wasn't long before I realized the noise was coming from the Ex. I noticed the sound around 40 to 45 mph and while keeping the truck fairly straight. I caught some video/audio but didn't see where I could upload it.
The ball joints have greasible zerks so I know there are not OEM but, other than that, I don't know when/if the wheel bearings or sealed units have been replaced. Recommendations? Is it a good idea to go ahead and replace bearings, sealed wheel bearing assemblies, and seals to have a reference point and prevent damage or failure?
Touareg :: Crunching Sound At Front When Turning At Tight Corners
I have started to notice a crunching sound seams to be coming up thru the front wheels only when turning tight corners this seams to be related to outside wear to both front tyres.....
View 7 RepliesNoises - Grandam :: 2004 - Crunching Sound From Front Right Tire?
So I got my 2004 Grand Am about 2 months ago and noticed after about a week that the front right tire was low. I put air in it, came back to check it in the morning and it was down again. I had it looked at and was told that the tire was pulling away from the rim because of the rim eroding. He put some bead sealant on it and got rid of the erosion on the rim. Everything was fine. But then about 2 weeks later I started to notice a slight crunch when I went over bumps. Over the past month and a half the sound has gotten progressively worse.
It sounds extra bad when I am making a right turn. My brother put it on a lift, took the tire off, pushing some things around and couldn't figure out the source of the sound. Everyone who drives in the car with me can hear it. Other than that annoying sound the car is beautiful but the sound makes it seem like a junky car and it's not. It doesn't crunch when I break or at high speeds (maybe because I can't hear it). I'd hate to bring it to another mechanic and pay dollars for him to tell me he can't figure out the sound either. The car had it's suspension checked etc.
Subaru - Forester :: Pulsing / Crunching Sound From Front Brakes - ABS Light On
My 1998 Forester suddenly began pulsing / crunching sound, from the front brakes. I had just performed full brake inspection 2 weeks before. So I removed the ABS fuse (20 amp), and the problem disappeared. Of course the ABS light is also on now, but I can drive the car. I disconnected the 4 wheel sensors from the car harness, connected an oscilloscope to each, and spun the wheels pretty fast. I get 150 MV peak-to-peak from each sensor. Must I replace the "tone rings", or just wire-brush them? Replacing the rings are a BIG job, and the wheel bearings & seals must be replaced, since they don't survive pulling out the axles from the steering knuckle (front), or strut assembly (rear).
View 3 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: Brakes Making A Grinding Noise And Thump Sound Coming From Passenger Side Front
So, last week I got my transmission replaced and they also had to replace the CV axle because it was damaged beyond repair when the Transmission self-distructed. They drove it after all the repairs and said it was driving fine, just that it had a belt squeak.
On my way home (30 min drive) about 10 minutes in, still in the city, my brakes start making a grinding noise and sort of a thump thump thump when I brake which sounds like its coming from the passenger side front, it makes me really nervous. It doesn't sound like any brake grindy noise Ive ever heard before and it wasn't making any brake noises before it broke down. (On a side note: it also made a weird noise maybe the first 3 times I drove it after getting it back and I turned the wheel hard to back out of a parking space, that used to be when I heard the belt squeak but I haven't made it squeak since I got the car back.)
Everyone I talked to said it sounded like it needed new pads so tonight I bought new brake pads and rotors for the front and got everything taken apart. The rotors didn't look bad at all, just some light surface scratches, nothing deep, no warping I could see, and the brake pads look almost brand new. I did notice that the inside brake pad on the passenger side was missing its little metal plate that is usually between the caliper and the pad, so I went ahead and replaced all of the brake pads hoping this lost metal plate was the issue.
I also turned the rotor by hand on each side while the brake pads were off and the only difference I could notice was when turning the passenger side one it made a little more noise almost like it was loose.
I got everything put back together and drove around the neighborhood with my boyfriend in the car to listen, the grinding noise was gone and it seemed to brake really well (never got above 30 mph.) However, on my way to return the rotors to advanced auto (45-50 mph) it started making the thump thump thump noise but without the grinding, still on the passenger side. I can feel it in the gas pedal and now it not only happens when I'm braking, but also any time I let my foot off the gas pedal. The only time I dont feel/hear it is when I'm accelerating.
Ford Excursion :: ABS Light Then Crunching Sounds?
Waiting on a flatbed ... Everything was normal and then my abs light comes on then crunching sounds from my left front. Would a hub or wheel bearing cause this?
View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: Freaking Heat Shield - Nasty Metallic Sound On Throttle And Making Left Hand Turns
I got a heat shield that just will not stop causing me grief. When I installed the headers and pipes I had a heat shield that was too close to the passenger side pipes. I bent it down some to clear the pipe and got rid of a nasty metallic sound I had on the throttle and making left hand turns. Well that little sound returned last week and I crawled under and looked and sure enough the heat shield was touching again.
Who knows why maybe a bit a spring sag. So yesterday I bent it down a little more. Today I start getting a nasty clunk on dips and especially when on a bump why turning. I crawl under there too look and find the same heat shield now has a huge gouge on the under side of it where the leaf spring near the rear bushing is smacking it. I'm sure Ford put it there for a good reason so hate to remove it.
First pic of the hacked up bend job I put on it.
Second pic of the gouge in the bottom of it where it's hitting.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2012 F350 - Making Clonk Sound In Front?

View 2 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Front Left Rotor Is Warped And Making Chirping Sound As Driving
My front left rotor is warped and makes that annoying chirp chirp chirp sound as I'm driving. I hear it while the truck is driving and also when braking. I jacked up the front left tire under the control arm, removed the tire and caliper/pads, tightened the rotor against the hub with the lug nuts. Watching the bottom of the caliper mount as a reference point, I can clearly see the distance changing between the rotor and the mount as I rotate the rotor.
And I feel the resistance as the rotor gets closer in that spot. Is this simply a warped rotor? Or is something else causing this? I replaced the pads, rotors, front brake hoses, front left caliper and , still the chirp remains. The pins are greased and slide nicely. I also bled quite a bit of fluid out, since it was a bit dark compared to the new fluid. I checked for play in the tire, thinking maybe a bad wheel bearing, but found none. No other noises or symptoms in the front end.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2012 F350 - Clunking / Crunching Sound In Steering Only When Cold Outside
So, I have this problem that comes back when the temperatures drop below about 20 degrees F. The truck is a 2012 F350 diesel with 15k miles and has done it since it had 3,000 miles on it. When turning in an intersection, or just moving the steering wheel left to right, it makes a clunking sound up in the front steering area and you can feel it a little as well. I have taken it to the dealer and they tightened the body mounts, but that did nothing. Once it warms up, the sound is gone.
This, coupled with the rear end clunking loudly over every bump and pothole when it is cold out, makes this truck a real noisy/annoying vehicle in the winter.
Here is a video of the steering noise, it is louder in person: [URL] ....
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Crunching Sounds From Front Passenger Side - Wheel Turns Hard
Had crunching sounds from front passenger side. Replaced CVJ shaft and hub bearing/assembly noise gone but tire turns hard by hand drivers side turns freely. Looked on line and guy had same thing going on said maybe 4x4 vacuum actuator might be bad and truck stuck in four wheel .does this sound right? I have manual trans and gear box so I don't understand why the actuator is even there.

I have determined that I need to replace the Passenger side Universal Joint I got all 4 wheels off the ground and ran it and if you turn the wheel the passenger one Locks and will not budge. But besides that when I am driving strait I get a squealing Barking sound every now and then. If I engage the 4X4 it goes away. I thought it was a bearing but they spin freely and have no play in them at all.

2002 Excursion 7.3l
Problem: Popping noise only on making turns, feels like its coming from underneath me. If i drive through a parking lot and jerk the wheel right and left I can make it do the same sound.
What's been done:
1. Replaced ALL the body mounts with new aftermarket mounts.
2. Replaced front leaf springs with new ubolts and everything
3. replaced sway bar end links
I took it to a local dealership to have them check it out (they are very trusted and reputable and I have an excellent relationship with them) and they thoroughly checked out everything. It's not the ball joints or anything front end (ball joints were replaced by them a year ago).
I'm at a complete loss, I feel I "attacked" all the common problems in these trucks that would cause that popping sound....what's left???
They assure me theres no safety issue or anything that would be a huge cause for concern, but that pop drives me a little crazy. I am a little OCD with my trucks.
Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 - Clanking Sound From Front End
My 2000 Excusion V10 has original shocks and has no suspension mods. I am adding Rancho 9100 XL's soon as well as a swaybar to the rear. Is the clanking sound I am hearing over rough surfaces from the worn out shocks on front or something else like ball joints?
View 6 RepliesSaab - 9-3 :: Right Front Suspension That Has Been Making A Clunking Sound
Today, I took my 2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T with 67,000 miles on it to a local mechanic to check the right front suspension that has been making a clunking sound when hitting potholes, etc. I was told that the right front coil spring is broken. This afternoon, I looked on line on some of the Saab discussion boards and saw that for cars up 2006 that there was an extended warranty offered for 10 years and 120,000 miles due to multiple cars with this problem caused by an, allegedly, faulty design that allowed the springs to corrode and fail prematurely in snow belt states that salt the roads.
