Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 F350 - Low Fuel And Water In Fuel Lights Came On
For the last four months my 04 F350 has been having the same problem every now and then. Cruising down the highway at a decent speed and the fuel pedal/fuel shuts off. Only lasts seconds then re-engages. Two lights come on. Low fuel and water in fuel. I changed the internal fuel pump last week and it did it again tonight. The truck runs great otherwise except for an occasional death shake while stopped at a light. No codes came up and FICM is at 54.

View 14 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Water In Fuel Sensor
Tonight I changed my fuel filters for the first time. Went well. However, when I was hooking up the WIF sensor connector, it wasn't pushing in very well. I looked and the pins were straight, I kept messing with it. I noticed that the sensor was loose in the housing. It looks like there are about 4 tabs that hold the end of the sensor in the housing. When the end of the sensor came off, one of the two springs and 0-ring popped out. I managed to find them and re-assemble it. Is this a normal occurrence? Do I need to order a new housing? If it falls apart and I get a WIF message, is there any type of de-rate that happens or can I keep driving?

OK, after I drain the fuel/water dohickey, what do I do with the waste? Pour it in my neighbors garden, on the railroad tracks, in my waste oil container or other (be specific)? Also what should I use as this collector, a small piece of Tupperware?

The dreaded "water in fuel" indicator is on! I'm traveling an hour south of me in the blizzard and the WIF indicator goes on. I immediately pull over and crawl under the truck to find the wiring to the sensor disconnected!!!(I just had Ford service the vehicle Monday!) I plug it back in and no change. After 50 miles or so the truck goes into reduced power mode. I get home and ride out the storm. After cleaning up the snow I get under the truck and disconnect, clean, and re-install connector on the sensor. Drain fuel from bowl.....not a drop of water. Restart truck...still no change. I know there's no water but now what?
View 14 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Water In Fuel Warning
I was about 2 miles from my home today when the Water In Fuel Warning appeared on the dash. I drove home and got everything read to drain the water separator. I crawled under the truck and the wiring harness was unplugged from the filter housing and wrapped around the rest of the harness. I just last week had both fuel filters changed during a routine oil change.
It appears the dealer left the wire unplugged. I drained some fuel just to be safe and as expected found no water. I plugged in the wire and started the truck. The warning went away. Here is my question: Has this event set some stupid bit or trigger in the ECM that Ford can use later to deny a claim? I called the dealership and talked to a tech who said "no". The service manager is supposed to call me tomorrow.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Water In Fuel Light Came On?
My water in the fuel light came on for the first time since I have owned the Excursion, which is a little over a year. Only thing i have done different is Monday this week i put in some hot shot diesel fuel additive to try with stiction. Dothe additive is the cause of the light to come on?
View 2 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Draining Fuel Water Separator
Anyway, Just bought a used 2015 F350. I want to drain the water separator as the dealer can't tell me when it was done last. Anyway, I read how to do it, but once you drain it, what do you do with the diesel that drains out with?
View 14 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Water In Fuel - Warning Light Came On
Not another dumb "water in fuel" post... I had the warning light come on the other day, so I got under to drain the filter. Not much water came out before the diesel, but I let some diesel drain anyway to be sure. What was strange though, was the electrical connection was off. I must have hit something somehow and pulled it out? What I'm wondering, because of the little water that came out of the filter, would the light have come on from the plug getting pulled out?

2004 6.0 and I put in a new WIF sensor and took off the cover and cleaned the junk out but it still comes on after a minute or 2. What am I missing??
View 3 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Water In Fuel Light Comes On / Engine Failure
So I am happily driving my 2011 F250 Powerstroke and the water in fuel light comes on. I drain the filter and drive about 10 miles and it happens again. Drain again and 5 miles later the engine dies. Had it towed to my dealer who found an exploded high pressure diesel injection pump. They talked to Ford and found out that they needed to install an all new fuel system from the injectors to the tank! The bill was 18,000 and no warrantee. Bad stuff gets right by the filters!!! I have two of those trucks and since the dealer used exactly the same parts as the broken ones, it can happen today again.

View 6 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 - Water In Fuel Warning Kept Coming On The Dash
On my 2006 6.0 the water in fuel warning kept coming on the dash. After going draining a few times and a few tanks later I knew something wasn't right so I bought a new sensor. When I pulled the old sensor out, it was full of gunk that was like a white jelly. I probably could have just cleaned the old sensor but I put the new one in anyway. My issue went away for a few months when the WIF alert came back. I pulled the sensor out again and sure enough it was gummed up. I've decided to pull that little panel door off and clean the inside. I have a few questions:
1) Can that oring be purchased separatly?
2) Can I just reuse my oring if it still looks good?
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Water In Fuel / Drain Filter Warning Message Came On
During a heavy rain the "water in fuel, drain filter" warning came on. I drained the filter like suggested and a water bottle full of water drained out. This is less then a week after I had the titan fuel tank installed. After I drained the fluid I restarted the engin and "reduce power an water in fuel" warning came on. I am 250 miles from the nearest ford dealer. How major is this???

I have 2006 ford f250 6.0 diesel. I was changing the fuel filter on the frame rail and noticed a lot of dirt in the housing . I tried to remove the plug to drain water to see if i could get out some of the dirt. But the bolt just turned and wouldn't come out. It wouldn't tighten either. I went ahead and cleaned as much dirt as i could and changed the filter. How to get the bolt out....... I just bought the truck so i don't have any prior maintenance history...

I didn't realize the 6.7 had two places that you need to monitor your coolant level. I've kept an eye on my coolant reservoir for the rad due to radiator failures reported but just today noticed there was another one for the intercooler. Mine was quite low. I'm sure most of you knew it was there but for those that didn't, keep that baby topped up I can't imagine having a hot intercooler is good.

I have a 2006 f250 with 120k. I am having trouble getting the water in fuel light off. I drainned the water out and replaced both filters and the fuel water sensor. The check engine light is now on and the water in fuel light is as well. I'm stumped and can't figure out what to do next. Will the check engine light come on as well with the water in fuel light or is it two different problems?
View 2 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2011 F250 - Water In Fuel / Sighs Of Rust In High Pressure Pump?
Recently my 2011 F-250 Diesel with 21,000 miles seemed to start hard one morning. After starting the truck it ran well that day and started fine. The next morning it would not start. Had it taken to the dealer and they went to work. Started at the fuel filters and replaced low pressure fuel pump. Thought a piece of the defective pump had moved up fuel line. Removed high pressure pump and found signs of rust. All regular service intervals have been met. Didn't see this coming. No water in fuel light or other warning.
