Lexus LS 2007+ :: 2009 460 SWB AWD - Power Steering Hard To Turn For A Second Or So?
In the last two days I've noticed that my steering wheel would suddenly have intermittent episodes of being hard to turn for a second or so. It has gotten progressively worse over the last 24 hours or so where when trying to make a right turn the steering wheel feels noticeably "heavy" during the turn. And in some cases after I make a turn onto a side street I let go of the steering wheel for it to straighten itself out so I can continue straight down the street I just turned on but the steering wheel doesn't straighten itself out quickly enough like it used to and I have to physically turn it back myself otherwise I'd start making a u-turn motion and careen into a parked car. Weird.
I can only conclude that there's something wrong with my power steering rack.
FYI, I have a 2009 460 SWB AWD with about 78k miles on it.
Camry 2012+ :: Power Steering Got Stiffer Suddenly - Hard To Turn The Wheel
My car's about 1.5 years old and 10k miles. About a week ago I started noticing that the power steering got a fair amount heavier/stiffer: it's suddenly a bit harder to turn the wheel. It came out of nowhere and I can't identify a cause, and the local dealership couldn't find anything wrong with the car. (2012 SE I4)
Since it's electric power steering I'm not sure what could have gone wrong here... and while it doesn't make the car un-driveable, it is rather annoying. The tire pressure is still around 37 PSI (according to the sensors) and they're Michelin.
Camry :: 2007 - Power Steering Hard To Turn After Replacing High Pressure Hose
I have an 07 Camry with a hard to turn steering wheel. I had to replace the high pressure hose from the rack due to a leak. After that I basically bled the system as one would do under normal circumstances. With the cars front wheels off the ground I turned the wheel hard left and right. The wheel did give a bit but not to the point of perfection. After many turns I put the vehicle on the ground and repeated the process. The fluid no longer leaked but the stiffness was still there.
The hose was replaced at 110,000 miles. It's currently at 112,000 miles
Camry :: 2003 - Steering Started Getting Hard To Turn Intermittently
2.4l std. The steering started getting hard to turn intermittently. I pushed the fluid and took out the reservoir and cleaned the screen. It was pretty dirty and smelled kind of bad. The belt looks ok and there are not strange noises or leaks. I figure it's the pump but I read a lot of posts where the pump was changed and problems persist. Also, I've never had a bad power steering pump so I don't know the symptoms. Is this simply a bad pump?
View 4 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: Steering Wheel Gets Hard To Turn And Not Return To Center When Turning Right
I have a 2009 screw with ~60k miles. It is used for DD and tows our small camper or my flat deck w/jeep.
The other day I noticed an issue when turning right. The wheel gets hard to turn and does not want to return to center. There is also a low speed clunk you can feel in the steering wheel/column itself.
The truck is at the dealer now and they said the rack needs to be replaced and there is something in the column they need to replace too. I have the extended warranty, so this is all but covered 100%. I just have a deductible to pay.
I have not hit anything with the truck, so I am not sure what caused these issues.

View 6 RepliesMazda :: 2002 - Power Steering Rock Hard To Turn?
So the car has 160K+ miles on it and in the past week I jumped in it and tried to take off and the steering wheel was rock hard to turn, so I assumed the power steering fluid was low and filled it up with lucas stop leak and within an hour all the stop leak leaked out the bottom of the car. The leak is normally leaves a puddle around the passenger front tire but is actively leaking out of the middle bottom of the engine. Could this be a bad power steering pump? Is it gonna cost me an arm and a leg to fix?
View 7 RepliesFord - Explorer :: Power Steering - Hard To Turn The Wheel And Then Would Release
So today out of nowhere the truck starts acting up with the steering. It got tuff to turn the wheel and then would "release" and steer ok. I drained the fluid (brownish and stinky) and added new.......
Crawled under the truck and the rack was damp....... The old fluid (likely original with 120k) had small metallic piec s in it.......Is the rack toast? Or shall I look somewhere else too?
Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2004 - Hard To Turn - No Power Steering?
My Daughters 2004 Ranger has about 195K the power steering reservoir is full it turns to the left as it should (assisted power steering) turning to right there is no power steering (manual Rack) I am thinking the issue is most likely in the steering rack..

The power steering on my 2001 Honda Civic intermittently cuts out and the wheel becomes really hard to turn. The belt is tight and the fluid level is correct.
The weird thing about it, is it only happens in cold weather. Everything was fine all summer, but now that the weather has turned colder the problem has reappeared. Same thing happened last year. . .

The steering on my truck has become a little heavy after making a turn and bringing the steering wheel back to center. The steering feels heavy like I had a front tire half way down. There's a lot of drag then once on center it's gone. Could it be the beginning of the end for my ball joints?
View 10 RepliesImpala - Chevrolet :: 2005 Power Steering Extremely Hard To Turn Left Or Right / Fluid Leaking
Last night at 2am and it was about 10 degrees out (I say the temp because it might matter?) I started my car, let it warm up to normal running standard and backed up. My car moved backwards but the wheel would not turn at all. I pull forward into my parking spot and noticed that the wheel is extremely hard to turn left or right... almost impossible.
I check under the hood and noticed that my car was leaking something onto the group but it was dark and I couldn't quite see what it was.
Checked this morning and I found that my power steering fluid was completely empty. I had a half bottle in my trunk and put it in my car, then turned my car on. All of a sudden I noticed that the fluid is leaking onto the ground. Not really leak, more like a slow/medium pour and the wheel still wouldn't not move.
Nissan - Murano :: 2005 - Steering Is Hard Enough To Turn
Ok to begin I took my Nissan Murano in because I was barely able to reach 20 MPH. No power whatsoever. Devouring oil. Was suppose to take 3-4 days he said. Ended up taking over 1 1/2. Which I didn't mind as long as the car was fixed!Okay I got it back the very first thing I noticed was steering was SO hard to turn. He said it should loosen up in a couple days. It didn't. Took it back let him have it for hours. Didn't get fixed. He said it may need a new power steering pump (funny, didn't need one BEFORE)
2nd thing I noticed.. The steering was off to the left. He said that it he could fix that. When I got it back at first it was on straight then it just started turning about one day to the left then upside down then back to the top.Ok no problem. Took it back he said it was something to do with the steering column not being pushed in well so he bolted it or something. Ok got it back and the steering is still off to the left a bit and now it pulls to the left.Tell him and so he re does the "bolting" fix.
Steering still really hard to turn so he tells me I have to pay for a new rack and pinion!!!! That is ISN'T the steering pump. And on top of that NOW my horn, airbag light is flashing, sound control panel on the steering wheel and cruise control ALL isn't working. So he said I HAVE to pay for something to get it fixed.
Cadillac - Cts :: 2009 - Steering Wheel Hard To Steer?
My 2009, 6 cylinder, 3.6, AWD Caddy CTS with 175K miles as started to have steering problems. No squealing or funny noises, just very hard to steer, at low speeds and high speeds. Ocassionally it is fine but most of the time very hard, esspecially at low speeds, trying to park and things like that. My question is : how can I tell if its the power steering pump or the steering rack or maybe, and hopefully just a relay or fuse before I bring it to get repaired. If I know its the pump I can just get a peplacement from rock auto and bring it to my local mechanic and save a ton of money. If its the rack I'm stuck taking it to the dealer and losing my house to pay for it.
