Volvo - C70 :: 2003 - Rattle / Knock Coming From Right Front When Drive Over A Bump Or Rough Area
I have a 2003 Volvo C70 that I've owned since 2004. In February, I ordered struts for the front with all the trimmings, (spring seat, strut mount, bump stop, etc) from FCP Euro. The struts were Sachs 553-058, which are supposed to be as good if not better than the original struts. I installed them myself, meticulously following the instructional video FCP publishes on YouTube. Installation went very smoothly. Afterwards, I noticed a rattle/knock coming from the right front when I drove over a bump or rough area.
I took it to a local tire/brake place that I have a good bit of confidence. After driving the car, the guy says, "You gotta bad strut!" Called FCP. They sent me a new strut. I installed it and sent the other back. Sounded a LOT better—for about two weeks. Now I am hearing the sound on both sides. I took it to a very reputable Volvo mechanic, I have used since the warranty expired. He drove it, confirmed the sound was not normal. We put it on the lift and he checked everything on the front suspension and was stumped. He said there was nothing wrong with my installation, no problem with the suspension.
Okay, FCP has an unconditional satisfaction guarantee, so I could replace these with a more expensive strut for say $50 more, but is the problem with the struts? I would hate to have to do this installation again and still have the same problem.

I have upgraded my sound system in my car and sometimes i get a P0326 check engine light.
Now i was wondering if its possible that the Heavy bass ( 25/40 Hz, 1200 Watt RMS and 2500 watt Max) Subwoofers could cause the car to vibrate so much that it sets of the knock sensor?
I have read some things about it but i only found that several "Old" cars with OBDII would have this problem? Is that the same on this hyundai accent?
It only comes once in a while after long cruises and bumping.
Camry :: 2007 LE - Steering Knock / Bump Symptom
I recently bought a used 07 Camry le, it has about 56k miles on it. I noticed this steering knock/bump symptom since the first test drive and brushed it off since it was pretty faint. Now that I had some time to google it I'm pretty sure the symptom is what everyone describes here as the "intermediate shaft greasing fix"
My question is this:
Is this dangerous or detrimental to any parts? I plan to do the grease fix either myself or via a mechanic, but I don't have time this week. I've only had the car a week. Steers fine (and surprisingly well weighted for a Camry), bump/knock is felt when doing slow turns (i.e. parallel park or 90 degree) and sometimes when coming to a stop or taking off from a stop.
Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2003 - Rattle Sound On Acceleration / Load
My '03 gives a rattle sound under load/acceleration conditions. This does not happen during the warm up period, so it appears that the engine runs lean under acceleration. There is no check engine light on for this. Approx 172k KM, (100k miles). The noise appears worse when it is hot/humid outside. I have run a can of Seafoam through it (half in the crankcase, half in the fuel line), and that doesn't seem to have worked. Therefore, I don't think that it is the injectors. Possibly fuel filter (still original)? Any easy way to test?
View 8 RepliesAccent LC (2000-05) :: Check Engine Code 0734 / Rattle In Transmission
Last weekend on my way home from work, I heard this small "thump" noise then a rattling noise started. It really sounds like spinning a marble in a plastic bottle.
I got the car checked and we got code 0734 (Gear 4 ratio incorrect). We think there might be a tooth missing on the gear, but the mechanic wasn't entirely sure, as he wasn't a transmission specialist.
Now, I fear this may cost me my first born child, and I might just end up buying a cheap car for the Winter and get rid of this one; the transmission repair costs are ridiculous.
I've been driving the car in the city (30-50 km/h at most), I'm trying to avoid the highway, I'm afraid I'll blow it, who knows.
It has an automatic transmission, with 125,000 km on it, 2003 make.
The noise only happens when the car is moving forward, not when idling/parked, not in reverse. I am very gentle with the car, no highway speeding, no sudden speeding. I did however do an oil change a little over a month ago, and read somewhere on here that if the wrong fluid was used during maintenance that it could cause problems. I will call the shop and ask them about it.

Not sure if this is a common issue, but every time I go over a moderate bump in the road I can hear the trunk floor parcel rattle a bit, almost as if it is loose. I know it's the tray because whenever I put stuff like grocery bags on it the sound stops. It's a pretty annoying noise, almost like I have a couple wood blocks in the trunk. I'm assuming the inside of the parcel itself is some kind of cork or something? It doesn't look out of place or anything.
View 7 RepliesHonda - Pilot :: Rattle / Knock In Front End
Our 2003 Honda Pilot with 130K miles recently developed a front end Knock/rattle, which is sustained at about 70 miles per hour. Dealer "couldn't hear the noise". Tried new tires per dealer suggestion- fail! Recently we towed our 2100 lb pop up with it, and it was MUCH louder, and of course sustained at lower speed. Should we even be towing a pop up with a vehicle that has this many miles on it?

View 3 RepliesLexus RX 2004-09 :: Exhaust Rattle When Going Over A Speed Bump
I have recently started to have the exhaust rattle on my RX330. It occurs every now and then when the car is on an angle or more particularly when going over a speed bump. I had been trying to find out where it was coming from and it looked to be the exhaust possibly touching the plate that separates the exhaust from the spare wheel cover (which of course is plastic). This is the part I am talking about....
Now the first part of me thinks that to resolve the issue it would be handy to put some padding there to stop it from rattling against the shield when the exhaust does move. The second part of me also thinks, it might be time to replace the rubber holders as they seem to be particularly soft and have quite a bit of give to them. Now for the interim I would want to put some padding on there. What padding have to put there? Would exhaust wrap be the most obvious choice to wrap around the shield?
Trying to find an inexpensive temporary solution. The long term resolution would be for the actual rubber rings themselves to be replaced as well as having that small metal bit covered in some sort of wrap to prevent metal to metal touching (hence vibration and noise). Part of me also thought to remove the shield altogether, but worried that the exhaust may touch the plastic around the tyre and cause it to melt and possibly catch fire, as it does sway a bit.
Prius (2004-09) :: Front End Rattle / Knock Noises
I have seen a few separate threads regarding a front rattle/knocking noise on some Gen II Prius. This is not the engine mount metallic-knock sound but rather a subtle rattle coming from the front end when going over smallish bumps at low speeds and sometimes accompanied by a slight knock in the steering wheel.

2011 Lexus RX350
24,000kms/15,000 miles on the odometer
Owned vehicle for 13 months
I've been experiencing this annoying rattle coming from the front end. The rattle is not very loud and every time I drive over a bump, it sounds like I am driving over a Texas gate. I don't feel the rattle, but I hear it. It occurs only when I drive over a bump on the passenger side. No rattle occurs when I drive over a bump on the driver's side.
I have 3 questions:
1. Is it fair to rule out a bad engine mount?
2. Is it reasonable to pinpoint this to possibly a bad strut mount on the passenger side?
3. What are the impacts of driving 1700 miles until having this looked at? I have to go out of town next weekend. I called the Lexus dealership here at home and the earliest they can look at it is two weeks from now.
Lexus LS 2007+ :: Start Up Rattle Sound Similar To Knock
I get this noise, AT TIMES, on cold starts which sounds similar to a knock. It lasts for maybe a couple of seconds at most. It's not the FI ticking that is generally always present. I see where other models (engines) have reported start up noise but nothing on the 460.
View 2 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Engine Rattle / Knock When Traction Battery Low
So I have searched about engine rattle/knock and I have found lots of results for cold starts but I haven't found it for the issue that I am having. I have a 2010 and anytime the battery is real low, around 2 bars and the ICE fires up to charge it, any time I give it a little throttle input, I get heavy valve rattling. It doesn't matter if its cold or hot, it does it as long as the battery is low. I never get this noise when battery is charged up, only when low. I have a link to the video below and you can see once I give it some input, it starts to sound like an old diesel tractor. Prius has close to 200K on the odometer and all my maintenance is up to date. Please turn the speakers up but the noise is right at 5 seconds in or so.
View 13 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Severe Knock / Rattle From Trans Axle?
My wife called today on the side of the road with a strange knock/rattle sound from the front (engine/trans/etc) along with an apparent loss of power. (no prior warning signs -- just started) She wisely stopped driving, then called me, and we decided it would be wise to have it towed home.
(Let me take a moment to praise my wife who has always been extraordinarily attentive to the mechanical operation of her vehicles. I've always been the fleet mechanic, and if she has ever experienced anything out of the ordinary, she contacts me immediately. She's not frantic or unreasonable -- in fact she's fiercely independent -- she's simply a conscientious person, and I love that about her.)
So we get the car home and I begin looking into what's going on. Was hoping it would be something simple like a motor mount or exhaust shield... no such luck. Everything externally seems fine.
Camry :: 2002 XLE 4-cylinder - Inconsistent Knock / Rattle From Engine Compartment
I own a 2002 Camry XLE 4-cylinder with about 95,000 miles which is in excellent condition and well-maintained. Recently I began to hear a rattle, tapping or knocking sound apparently from the passenger side of the engine compartment (passengers agree with apparent location). It almost sounds like engine knocking, but the times it happens seem to rule that out. It could be some metal vibrating against something, but I can't hear it when I'm under the hood, and nothing appears loose. I've taken it to my trusted independent mechanic, but he couldn't duplicate the sound driving for 15-20 minutes on the freeway or see anything wrong when put on a lift. The sound doesn't occur all the time, of course; that'd be too easy.
The noise begins:
-after I've been driving 15 minutes or more
-after the car gets above 45-50 MPH, but when the noise finally begins, it will then occur down to as low as 30 MPH.
Last weekend I drove 1000 miles roundtrip on the freeway at 65-80 MPH; it didn't begin for 30 minutes, but continued most of the way to my destination (5.5 more hours), though it did seem to stop a few times. This week, my 20 minute drive to work, which has about 10 minutes on the freeway at 65, has not caused the noise to happen once.
Characteristics of the problem:
-the noise is not related to RPM; once it begins, it is about the same frequency and volume at 30 MPH as at 80 MPH
-it doesn't occur when in park or neutral and idling, even if the engine is revved, and even if the noise was just occurring on the freeway moments before
-it doesn't change when running over rough pavement or in turns
-it doesn't change when regular gas is replaced with premium (tried this last week to rule out engine knock, though the lack of RPM affecting it probably ruled that out already).
So it seems like it may be related to the speed of the car and perhaps the temperature of the engine or compartment. The hood latch appears to be holding tight with no play, the strut mounts were replaced 10K ago, and the wheel bearings check out fine.

So should I take it to the dealer? Or it's normal?
