Muscle Disorders :: Generalised Stiffness And Right Calf Muscle Wasting
When in bed at night I struggle to turn over or move as I feel so stiff and sore. Once out of bed and moving I am much better. I initially find it hard to become upright after sitting for any length of time. About 2 years ago my daughter noticed my right calf was much smaller than my left one. I cannot raise my self onto my toes on my right leg due to loss of muscle/strength in the affected leg.
I have had blood tests, nerve stimulation tests and a muscle biopsy. My CK level from my blood tests was slightly raised, my nerve study tests were abnormal and my biopsy only showed minimal change.
I now cannot raise my arms above shoulder level to the front and if I walk at a quicker pace my lower back feels like I have no support and I get pain around my lumbar region.
I go spinning 4/5 times a week and cope with this very well. It's as though once I'm warmed up my stiffness diminishes. I am 51 and have only one period every 3/4 months , I have been to the dr's re the menopause but have been told all my blood tests are normal.
i have been referred to a neurosurgeon and neurologist with ? A form of muscular dystrophy but now my muscle biopsy result has not shown the expected result.
i struggle going up and down stairs often. I feel so fed up with my inability to do what I want to do as I have always been an active person. I have put weight on and cannot motivate myself to control my diet.
Nervous - Muscle Spasm, Twitching And Burping
For the last 3 days I've had muscle spasm on my right side-it doesn't hurt. It's more like twitching. I have been burping-maybe gas. I have worked out a lot but haven't since this started. I was just wondering if anyone gets these. I did soak in Epsom salts tonight but the twitches still happening. I have read people do get these-it just makes you nervous as you feel a loss of control over your body.
View 3 RepliesNeurology :: Muscle Twitching, Soreness And Weakness
I am 27 years of age. I have always been physically active through gym workouts and soccer. About a couple of weeks ago I came back from a trip to Texas and started feeling lightheaded and minor headaches (possibly from drinking for a couple of days). A week later the ALS bucket challenge started spreading around social media, ******** more than anything. So I decided to donate for the cause. After donating, I went ahead and decided to educate myself on the disease and the symptoms.
That was probably the worst idea ever. A couple of days later I felt muscle soreness/weakness in my legs, arms and back. Then the twitching started in both of my legs (quads, calfs and bottom of my feet), arms (triceps areas and behind my shoulders). My initial reaction was ALS/MS, and I started freaking out. I went through a 3 day period in which I lost my appetite and felt fatigue, drained and had no desire to do anything at all. It has been a week now and the twitching has not gone away. I decided to go to the doctor and got some lab work done. The doctor stated that everything looked great. He even conducted a physical neurological exam and I passed. He stated it could be stress or dehydration. However, I have always tried to drink plenty of water during the day (at least 4 glasses a day). He recommended over the counter calcium 500mg and vitamin D 1,000 units.
My lab work came back normal (hemogram, BMP fasting, ALT, AST, TSH) but my body is still twitching and it feels sore at times. Yesterday, I got home and felt weakness on the top back of my right calf. I very concern and not able to concentrate on my daily activities (work and personal related activities).
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome :: Muscle Weakness And Twitching
I'm trying to be diagnosed, my doctor is that loss, extreme muscle fatigue for 2 1/2 months and now I started twitching. Of course I am freaking out I could be ALS, I feel always exhausted as if a truck as one over me, I soon as I come home from work I have to take a nap, but Dr. mention CFS but he's very worried about the twitching , Any of you have CFS with twitching of the muscles?
View 18 RepliesNeurology :: Muscle Fatigue And Perceived Weakness And Twitching
I have been having a slew of health problems recently but am still awaiting further testing. In the meantime, I am very stressed and having a hard time managing. I keep getting worried that my symptoms could be onset of ALS despite knowing how illogical it sounds. I am a 25 year old male.
First, I was diagnosed by my doctor with a sinus infection, although it was probably very slight. She prescribed me Augmentin and I took it for 5 days and immediately started feeling bad on it. After I quit taking it, I noticed some tingling in my hands and feet at work on Thursday the 11th. The next evening, Friday, my legs started to feel unsteady and heavy when I walked and my hands and arms remained tingly and had perceived weakness. On Monday morning, the 15th, I went to the ER and they believed I had Lyme Disease and prescribed me doxycycline. I took this for 7 days, but did not feel any better. I remained having perceived weakness primarily in my legs accompanied by muscle tightness, muscle soreness, and very slight, sporadic twitching all over. On the 19th, I saw a neurologist who dismissed my symptoms as not serious as my reflexes were ok (knees were slightly weak, but I was very tense during the test) and I was able to walk normal, it just felt strenuous. My lyme test came back negative and a second western blot also came back negative.
Currently, I continue to have all of my symptoms, including perceived weakness, muscle fatigue, soreness, tightness, and twitching. Symptoms are present all over my body, but concentrated in my legs. When I lay down at night, my whole body will feel as if I had a sunburn and I am having difficulty sleeping because of my worrying. If I go out and walk, my legs gets very sore and tired much quicker than they ever did before. Additionally, I have been having a very dry mouth and tight feeling throat. My PCP believes it to be either post-viral syndrome, mild MBS, or the least likely, MS. Others have suggested b12 or vitamin d deficiency. I have an MRI scheduled next week and an appointment with a different neurologist.
Other info:
-Was prescribed zoloft and am less than one week in to taking it. I believe it may be increasing the shakiness of my hands and my stress, as it takes some time to adjust to it.
-Was prescribed ambien to sleep. I'll sleep for about four hours straight, but then have a hard time continuing to sleep once I wake up. I believe I might be twitching or jerking in my sleep which wakes me.
-I tried to go to the gym on the 24th and run and lift weights. The next day, it felt like it really set me back, as I was much more sore and my legs seemed more unsteady.
-Began taking b12, b complex, magnesium, D vitamins.
-Had multiple blood tests. The only abnormal result was a positive ANA for speckled at 1:80. I read this can be a pretty common result.
-Less than 2 years ago, I had shingles.
Any thoughts on what could be wrong with me?
Calves Cramp In Both Legs For Almost 2 Years
I'm 17 years old, 6 ft. 175lbs and frequent soccer player. Starting my sophomore year in Highschool I would get a cramp in both of my calves when I started jogging or running for long periods at a time. In pre season I pulled an area of my hamstring badly, not sure of the specifics but I believe it's the connector of your butt and hamstring. I had continued to play on it until I started physical therapy and addressed it( I would still get cramps when playing on it) I was diagnosed as having plantar fasciitis and began working on my calves and feet in physical therapy. Still nothing solved this, and I was fit while being only age 16 at the time. Still had calf cramps. I turned to custom orthotics which took months to break in until one game I noticed a huge change. I ran at a decent speed for a whole game, our team had no subs so I was forced to stay I although with little cramps, the day after I could barely walk. That was the last full game I played at center defense. Ever since that game I noticed that my butt sticks out more because it seems my pelvis is out of line. The cramps persisted after even though I had gone a game with no cramps. Conditioning still had no effect as after even 2 laps I would begin feeling strong tension. I ended up breaking my ankle junior season for soccer in Highschool and am now getting back into things, except that I can't run more than 5 minutes. My right hip is abducted( turns inward) and it was never like this before. I'm result my back is tighter, my knees rotate in, and basically my whole lower body is torqued and the muscles have unbelievable tightness. Wondering if this sounds like compartmentalism?
View 1 RepliesLyme Disease :: Persistent Middle Ear Infection With Muscle Twitching And Fatigue
About 6 weeks ago I began to experience some ear problems. It started with muffled hearing, tinnitus, and mild pain. I went to primary care provider and she prescribed amoxicillin three times a day for the middle ear infection. A couple of days later my symptoms got a lot worse. I lost most of the hearing in my right ear and I had severe jolting pain that radiated to my whole head and eyes. I went to the ER and was given a shot of penicillin and was also diagnosed with strep throat. I was referred to ENT because my eardrum had actually burst. The ENT doc prescribed ear drops and a higher dose of amoxicillin with clavu k. Another week passed and the symptoms continued to get worse. I followed up with ENT last week and he said my right ear looked really bad inside and I am probably going to need surgery to fix it. He also said to stop taking my antibiotics and ear drops.
Okay, this is why I think I may have Lyme. Throughout all of this I was experiencing flu and other symptoms that I didn't pay much attention to because I was focused on the ear infection. In the beginning I felt unusual muscle twitching in my limbs with achy pain. I just dismissed it as normal body functions. Fast forward to this week, the muscle twitching is now more severe and present all over my body (almost every voluntary muscle). There is some accompanying pain/soreness from the constant twitching. I am also having heart palpitations, anxiety, depression (a first for me), joint pain, dizziness, painful headache, and brain fog/"out of it" feeling. I am also unusually sensitive to cold and some of my muscles feel "electric." I went to the ER yesterday and they did some bloodwork, an EKG, and a chest x-ray but everything was normal. The EKG showed a left axis deviation in my heart but the doc said it was nothing because I am a little stocky.
I don't know what to do. I am getting worse everyday, especially after stopping the antibiotics. My doctors appear to think that my symptoms are psychosomatic even though my anxiety has been under control for weeks. The only thing they're sure I have is an ear infection, but even that isn't responding to antibiotics.
I have pets and they play in a backyard that is filled with squirrels, rats, opossums, and birds. I sleep with one of my dogs and I have found a few ticks in my bed before. I didn't think they bit humans but about 2 months ago I did develop a weird rash on my upper buttox that became a huge cyst (I sleep belly-down). It lasted a few weeks but it completely disappeared a couple of weeks ago. I just thought it was a big zit and didn't think much of it. Maybe this could have been a bite?
Sorry, about the long read. I am a recently discharged disabled veteran and I receive healthcare through the VA. Appointments are always weeks away due to huge backlogs, which makes it even more frustrating. The appointments are also always rushed and my doctors are quick to make the "anxiety" diagnosis if they don't find anything obvious.
I am not looking for a diagnosis. I am mainly seeking advice on what I should do and if my symptoms may sound like Lyme. I would also like to ask how I can approach my doctor with the possibility of Lyme Disease without being dismissed right away. I am really starting to get scared because I have been getting progressively worse over a period of almost 2 months.
Calf Muscle Tightness After Running
I've just recently started running. At first it went fine, and I began to gradually increase my endurance and speed, really happy, etc. etc, until recently, I've been struck down by a mysterious malady.
While I run, my calves tighten up, and it becomes nearly impossible to finish the run. It's not plantar fasciitis or achilles tendonitis (no swelling, for one thing), but I can't consult a real doctor because I'm living in Japan and have no insurance and a very limited command of the language.
I did purchase new and good shoes, but no dice. I've consulted numerous of my track-involved friends, who offered various bits of contradictory advice. One person advised about 20 minutes of stretching before and after a run. Another said to not stretch before running, and stretch each calf for 3 sets of 30 seconds each. Those are the two extremes, and most suggestions fall somewhere in the middle. I make a point of doing a couple minutes of stretching (basic calf and thigh stretches), but nothing extensive, and I'm not sure what alterations I should make to my routine. I also took some time off, and just walked for my exercise, but when I started running again the problem returned.
Please help, any assistance would be appreciated. I'm just starting to get into running and just starting to get into shape, and I'm afraid that if this affliction keeps on going I will lose the motivation I've managed to fire up.
Restoration Of Calf Muscle - How Long It Takes?
How long does it take for the calf muscle to restore to normal following calcaneal surgery / immobilisation?
I've been going swimming, but can't use the ladder to climb out of the pool (had to climb out on my bottom!) was told it was because the calf hadn't redeveloped.
Aching/tight Calf Muscle After Exercising
I was wondering if anyone else's calf muscle tends to get a bit painful and tight after exercising, also think i over did things yesterday as my knee feels really swollen today

Hi all new to the board, for the last year maybe longer i noticed a lump on my left calf muscle only when flexed in a certain way and they are hard to touch and do not move, the last few days i've noticed another one right next to it, i am a very active person and do regular squats and calf exercises with the cross trainer also.

Gastrocnemius Tear Calf Muscle Not Healing
11 weeks in and I'm stuck so far in the healing process. I followed PT from day 1 and have had 6 sessions now. PT asks to strengthen and stretch but any work on the calf aggravates it and appears to set me back - should I just expect this...2 steps forward and 1 step back until fully healed? It was defo a gastrocnemius tear - ultrasound 6 weeks after estimated 70%. However my soleus is now hurting as well - it feels strained/pulled..Have I lengthened the gastrocnemius in the tear and now the soleus is too short?? Does that make sense?
Anyway - I can walk around without too much issue but ANYTHING else and it flairs up for several days - should I just give it more time or push for ortho and MRI? Any advice (I'm a poor patient!!)
Calf Muscle Not Working After Pttd Surgery
Can anyone tell me if they have had trouble with their calf muscle after pttd surgery? I am 4 months post op. I have done my calf exercises religiously and am on a muscle stimulator 3 times a week. I am interested in finding out how long it took to get the muscle working and what was done to make it work.

View 6 RepliesCramps :: Toes, Foot And Calf Muscle
its great to know i'm not going mad thinking i'm unique in this - i get cramp in my toes every single time i go to bed, if i dont try to nip it in the bud within a few minutes it moves to the rest of my foot and then to my calf muscle, i am wondering if i have a circulation problem, i did have Quinine for this and to be honest i noticed a reduction in the amount of times per week i got it then my husband said try an Aspirin which i did and noticed an aspirin in the morning then one at night reduced it even more than the quinine but, after a month of doing this, my cramps have increased to every night again whether i take aspirin or quinine, i am thin, relatively healthy but i am not a drinker of water so wonder if i should try that one next and maybe get hold of some concentrated Magnesium Citrate, i'll do anything to stop this, i even get it come on when driving and putting my foot on the gas pedal occasionally.

Torn Calf Muscle (Grade 3) - Stretches And Walking?
2 and a half weeks ago I tore my calf muscle. I went to minor injury unit at local hospital. They didn't need to do a scan. They diagnosed torn calf muscle and gave me crutches and told me to rest it for two weeks. Not sure but I think it must have been a Grade 3 tear as I could not walk on it without intense pain and only now can I actually stand on it. I've walked/hobbled about five yards at a time but it is very sore and tight.
After one week I went to GP to ask about recovery. The only advice was to do some stretches and try walking on it a little. I just wondered if I could find anyone who has been through this to see what steps they took.

View 1 RepliesUndiagnosed :: Muscle Cramps With Stinging Pain In My Calf And Legs
For the past couple months I experience sharp, stinging (or maybe burning) pain in my calf, usually right leg but sometimes left too.
I've been walking long distances my whole life and never had cramps before. Been doing some reading and so far symptoms fits cramps.
I have lately been walking really long distances on occasion.
I have the pain happening at night. I wake up with badly aching leg (calf muscle) and need some time time for it to lessen, sometimes I fall asleep seconds later and when I wake up the muscle is stiff and painful. It's also bit painful/sensitive at touch on other days too.
