Weight Loss - Intentional :: Bad Gastric Band Pain
I had my band done 10 days ago. Until day 7 all was well, slowly recovering but then I started getting these horrible stabbing pains. Most of my incisions are too the left but one is just off centre to the right and it's under here I am getting the horrible pain. It's ok if I sit/ lie still but if I start moving round the twinges start. Has anyone else experienced this? I called the nurse she said it was probably where my port was embedded.

View 4 RepliesWeight Loss - Intentional :: Travelling After Gastric Band Surgery
I'm booked in to have gastric band surgery soon.
The hospital is about 1.5 hours away from home.
The question is should I get a local hotel for the first night?
My husband would drive but is the journey too long straight after surgery?
Gastric Band Surgery :: Weight Loss Expectations?
I'm due to go for a second consultation next week with the hospital group, who have an op available in Birmingham on the 16th August. I'm borderline with a BMI of 30 and looking to lose 3.5 stones in total but I have heard you don't lose it all. Please could those who've had the op advise of the realistic weight loss and what you lost?
Weight Loss - Intentional :: Depressed
I am on the waiting list for Gastric Band Surgery on the NHS. My Doctor said this could take a Year to go through but I don't know if I can wait this long as I am so depressed about my weight and cannot stand the thought of another Summer at the size I am. Have gone from one diet to the next for the last 15 years, I have tried so hard.
I am thinking of looking into a Privately fitted one and wondered if anyone knows of any good Hospitals in the Reading area or not too far away from Reading and how much I am looking at needing a loan for?

View 5 RepliesWeight Loss - Intentional :: What The Mediterranean Diet Can Do For You
I am sure many of you will have heard of the Mediterranean diet and some of you may have even tried a supermarket or popular magazine version of it. Please set all those experiences to one side.
In preparation for writing about the Mediterranean diet for Patient UK, I went back through all the scientific papers on the subject to find out exactly what the diet was; what science has shown the health benefits might be; and what you actually had to eat. The research stretches all the way back to the 1970s and there doesn't seem to be any dispute within the medical/ scientific community about the benefits of the diet.
Here's a few key things I found out:
It is to do with the proportions of things you eat (meat, veg, oil, nuts, wine...) rather than any particular recipes or ingredients. You don't need to cook any Greek, Italian etc dishes at all.
There are plenty of things to 'snack' on.
You can buy everything you need to follow the diet in your local food shop. You don't need to join any clubs or take any medication.
The health benefits include: reduction of risk of developing -> heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, dementia... (indeed many of the diseases everyone is worrying about)
Following the Mediterranean diet has helped people attain an ideal weight (and there are a number of scientific papers on this).
I was so impressed by what I read - I started the diet myself.
Anyhow - if you are interested, you'll find everything you need here:
how to follow.....
How Many Considering Gastric Band Surgery?
I was wondering how many of you are considering gastric band surgery?
I went o see my doctor about it, and he said that, although I fulfill all criteria for the op, they wouldn't consider me uless I have tried Orlistat first, so that's why he has given me them.
I have 8 stones to lose, so presumably wouldn't be able to take Orlistat for that long!
Gastric Band Surgery - Awful Trapped Wind Post Op
Hi, I had my gastric band surgery on Saturday by single incision laparoscopy. I'm experiencing awful trapped wind which is making it difficult to sleep...Wind Eze hasn't been of much help and neither has peppermint tea, does anyone have any other ideas?
Also - I have low blood sugar due to the lack of eating. I've been increasing my intake but this hasn't got rid of the symptoms. Has anyone else experience dizziness, nausea and weakness? If so, how did you solve it?
Tightness In Chest And Diaphragm - Metal Band Around Abdomen
Having this tightness like a metal band round my upper abdomen (just under the ribs) with a feeling of "something" stuffed behind my breastbone, also breathless at times, and whole stomach can be hugely distended and hard, tightness and pain in the back sometimes too, some burping
H Pylori negative
has anyone had anything similar?
Undiagnosed :: Bloody Vomiting With Weight Loss And Pain In Right Upper Quadrant
For the last 30 days I have been extremely sick and in and out of the ER, the GI doctor, as well as my Primary Care Physician.
I have dropped 27lbs so far, without being able to keep little to no food down. Right upper abdomen quadrant pain is constant and sharp, fevers and chills on and off, lack of appetite, burping, indigestion, gas, and so on, and it has gotten to the point that I get dizzy very easily and also extremely tired no matter how much sleep I get.
My doctor put me on an IBS medication though I am not having any trouble with constipation. He asked me to perform tests "Try consuming things like: beer, cheese, peanut butter, milk. If it causes you pain then call and leave a telephone consult and I will get back with you" Beer test- it went alright other than the immense amount of pain it put me in, woke up after just deciding to go to bed, vomiting up with tiny chunks of blood. Cheese, cant eat it without pain, same with peanut butter and milk.
I have tried a very bland diet but nothing seems to stay completely down, I may get a small part of it digested but that is about it everything else comes up.
I have tried coffee, cant have that anymore because I cant drink it without creamer. I am already under a vegetarian diet for the last three years, but it is no use.
I have had a HIDA scan but the doctors said "You're gallbladder is at 60%. There is nothing wrong with you." X-ray, ct-scan, and ultrasound all came back with the same result. Of course, this coming from military doctors, so it isn't like the civilian world.
I have been going back and forth between the doctors for this last month, and I go through this nearly every year, two to four times each year, but this one is extremely long lasting and extremely painful. So painful that I start seeing spots and get very faint thus having to lay down. They gave me stuff for GERD as I already was in speech therapy two years ago because my Larynx closed up on me for a PT test, they accumulated it due to indigestion (something I do not ever get).
Ulcerative Colitis Flare Up - Bloody Stools, Lots Of Pain And Loss Of Weight

View 4 RepliesThyroid :: Hashimoto's - Hair Loss, Depression, Anger, Memory Loss And Weight Gain
I am a 25 year old female and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease probably around 2012 or so. I take 75MCG every morning and I do blood tests about once or twice a year to make sure my levels are stable. What I need help with are symptoms. My boyfriend has been very supportive, he was the reason I went to get the initial blood test because he said my symptoms reminded him of Graves Disease and it worried him. Well, I went to the doctor and got the tests done and he told me I had Hashimotos. Since then, my boyfriend has told me that he hasn't seen any improvement in my symptoms, in fact he thinks they've gotten worse. I have looked at a lot of different lists of symptoms that people with Hashimoto's Disease can experience and I experience a lot of them. I'll list the ones I experience the most and a little bit of a description to each so maybe someone can help me with what I need to do to feel better because honestly it makes me miserable.
-Hair Loss - Every time I brush or wash my hair there is always tons of hair in the brush or tub. It's everywhere all the time, I shed like the cats.
- Depression - I don't know if it is actually depression, but a lot of the time I feel like I'm just not good enough to be around anyone. I'll find myself crying at ridiculous moments with absolutely no reason for it. I also find myself thinking that people I know (and can acknowledge even when I'm feeling this way) love and care for me, and yet I still think they don't care about me and will abandon me at the drop of the hat, which breaks me down mentally.
- Stress - This is probably one of my worst symptoms. I am always stressed out about something, even ridiculous things that shouldn't be stressing me out. One of the biggest things I stress about is what I mentioned with the depression. I feel like my friends and loved ones are going to abandon me at any minute, which scares me and results in me lashing out at them in ways that if I can't control it soon enough may result in them actually leaving, which terrifies me and just puts me into a never ending loop of stress and depression.
- Anger - I can't seem to rationalize other people's behaviors. Completely normal behaviors that don't normally bother me result in me lashing out and screaming at people and saying things that I don't mean to say.
- Memory Loss - This is a really bad symptom. I forget things very quickly. If I don't actively keep it in my mind, I won't remember it. A perfect example, when I was still in college I was walking through town with some people and when we were going back to the dorms I made a comment about a truck I saw. I used to see it all the time and hadn't seen it in a while so I made the comment. The people I was with looked at me really confused and just flatly stated "You said the exact same thing when we walked by it on the way out" and I honestly don't remember seeing it at any point that day. In fact I didn't remember seeing it for around 5 months, and yet they claimed that I made the exact same comment I just had, earlier that day. It really messes with my head when people tell me that I did or said something and I can't remember doing it to save my life.
- Weight - Before I started taking synthroid I weighed 110 lbs, after I started taking it I gained like 30 lbs and I can't lose it. I'm stuck between 135 and 140 (I'm about 5'6" tall)
- Headaches - I get headaches on a daily basis. Sometimes they're really bad but generally they're just a slight discomfort in my frontal lobe area.
- Sleep - It takes me forever to fall asleep and even when I do I can't stay asleep and then I feel exhausted all day when I wake up, as if I never slept at all.
Another thing I've noticed and that is that sometimes I feel like I can't swallow properly, I always feel like I have to yawn to get a lung full of oxygen, and my nails curl downward along the curve of the tip of my fingers on like 3/5 fingers.

View 1 RepliesChest Pain :: Hard Lump On My Chest - Pain On Breathing, Exercising Etc
I am a 27 years old male and have been suffering from some left chest pain for the past two weeks. The pain worsens when taking a deep breath, exercising, lying down, and even talking. Along with the the chest pain I get a sharp stabbing pain in my back when doing all the same activities. The weirdest thing is I have a hard lump on my chest that is painful to touch. It doesn't get better with ice or heat and pain medications don't seem to help either.
View 1 RepliesChest Pain :: Frequent Chest Pain Which Lasts A Few Days
I am a 25 year old female. For about a year now I've been getting sharp stabbing chest pains in my right side which last from 1-14 days. The pain is worse when I take a breath inward and there is no tenderness. There is no monthly pattern with the pains, but I get them at least once every 2 months. I have noticed that every time I sleep on my right side, these pains appear. However I'm not sure whether this is a coincidence or not?
The first time this happened I went to A&E, they did an ECG and checked me for blood clots but everything was fine. Could this be pleurisy do you think? And does anyone know whether sleeping on my right side would bring the pains on. I am getting worried at this keeps happening, I thought it would sort itself out.
Chest Pain :: Sensation Of Food Being Stuck In The Throat/chest
I am experiencing the sensation of food being stuck in the throat/chest, as if you swallowed a large pill and it is resting there. I have had acid reflux issues and take Zantac for it (previously Prilosec) and neither of them helped much. It's difficult to swallow and I also feel like I need to burp to relieve some pressure build-up in my throat/chest.
I woke up out of sleep last night and felt this sensation severely along with stabbing pain in my upper abdomen the radiated up to my chest. There's dull pain in my lower back as well along with nausea, trouble getting a full breath. It's extremely uncomfortable and concerning. It seems to hurt more when lying down, but I feel it when I'm upright too.
I'm waiting on a referral to see a Gastroenterologist to discuss my very extensive list of symptoms.
I understand that it anxiety could add to the pains I'm feeling, and I do have extreme anxiety when it comes to my health, but what I'm worried about is that I woke up out of my sleep with this pain to where it can't be directly caused by anxiety. I've been to the hospital for chest pains a couple of occasions and they ruled out everything but anxiety. So trust me, I know what anxiety can do.
Chest Swelling And Sharp Pain, Already On Antibiotics For Chest Infection
So spent night in hospital for chest infection on Tuesday night. Been on 50mg steroids and 500 mg Co amoxiclav three times a day.
Pulled my back muscles coughing yesterday so taking diazepam as doctor prescribed for it as asthmatic so can't take ibuprofen.
However today when woke up my lower right lung area is swollen and have acute sharp stabbing pain when cough and constant pain which is dull. Anyone any idea what it is? I'm wondering if diaphragm or maybe need to see doctor for 3rd day this week.
