Thyroid :: Raised Parathyroid And Calcium Levels - Low Vitamin D
I have had a raised parathyroid hormone blood result recently also a raised calcium in the blood result. I had raised calcium levels several years ago but after a scan of my parathyroid glands which showed no growths it was put down to lack of Vitamin D and called secondary parathyroidism
I was told to increase my Vitamin D levels which I did and my calcium level dropped. I have continued on the supplementation. I have severe sleep problems, am tired and grumpy, my hypothyroidism been under control for the last 8 years. I am borderline diabetic. Almost 73 years old.
Thyroid Disorders :: Elevated Parathyroid Hormone
My parathyroid hormone is 98.1 intact, the reference range is 14-72. My calcium is 9.7, reference range is 8.7-10.4, my vitamin D level is 50, reference range 33-100.
My parathyroid hormone has been elevated for a couple of years now, but usually my vitamin D levels were a little low, so the doctors seem to think my parathyroid was elevated because of my vitamin D level. Now that both calcium and Vitamin D levels are normal my parathyroid hormone is still elevated. Not sure if there is any correlation to why my parathyroid hormone is elevated, but I have multiple nodules on both left and right lobes of my thyroid. My left lobe has 3 nodules under 1 cm with one measuring 3.1 x 1.3 x 1.6 cm and my right lobe has one under 1 cm with the other 1.0 x 0.4 x 0.6 cm.
December 2013 I had a biopsy on the larger one on left lobe 3.1 cm and was benign.
I haven't been feeling well for more than two years now, doctors just tell me to see a psychiatrist, I am on a antidepressant but it really hasn't helped me that much.
Bad Parathyroid? Symptoms? Calcium And Vitamin D Levels?
I have nearly all symptoms of a bad parathyroid. I am changing doctors as I am not pleased with his responses. My parathyroid hormones have been high for two years+. My calcium level stays at 10-10.4, with anything over 10.5 being considered high. Do I just go to a surgeon or what do I do? With sudden symptoms beginning over two years ago, I feel it is a bad parathyroid. In my last blood work, my VIT D was even LOW, which I understand can also be a symptom.

I ve been operated of parathyroid cancer in March 2015 in France. It seems very rare. I m looking for people with the same disease ? I am still in hypocalcemia after 8 months even with 3 g of calcium per day and vit D.
Have you ideas to go out ?
Thyroid :: Diagnosed With Parathyroid Hyperplasia
Recently have FINALLY gotten a diagnosis of PARATHYROID HYPERPLASIA?… After many years of fainting, blood pressure issues, kidney stones, ureteral stunting, a complete hysterectomy at 34 after ovarian cysts reoccurring….I had hoped it was HYPERPARATHYROIDISM…but my PTH wasn't high enough and the sestamibi and 3d scans and ultrasounds showed very thick glands? Does this sound like anything any of you have gone through or experienced, or should I be seeking another opinion?

View 2 RepliesThyroid :: Parathyroid Tumour? Unbearable Body Aches
I am 48 years old and been suffering many years with pain all over my body, my hip pain is the worst, closely followed by shoulders, wrists and hands, then buttocks, more recently knees. My history has been a bit of a nightmare - diagnosed first as fibromyalgia, then early RA, then back to fibro, abnormal antibodies (autoimmune disease). Years ago I complained to my gp about mouth ulcers and was discovered I was low in vitamin D. Two years ago I started suffering extreme head sweats and a few weeks ago I realised that I was still getting mouth ulcers even if I was just a few hours late taking my Calcium Vitamin D and told my gp, adding that I was concerned that I was still low in vitamin D. Blood tests revealed that I am, even though I never miss the tablets, get lots of outdoors when able, eat loads of fish, eggs etc. So, doc thinks its a parathyroid tumour and according to the website the only 2 reasons you would have low vitamin D is 1- if you don't actually get any and 2 - you do have a tumour. So its looking pretty much like this is the reason and I am guessing surgery will be necessary. My concern is, my muscles and bones ache so much, I walk like a very old woman.
My life has really been mostly bed bound for the last few years with pain, having to use a stick a lot when I do go out - on good days I will be out as much as possible and walk as much as I can-yeah the consequences are usually the next day in bed, but I try to push it as much as I can. I have put so many things on hold, work and social and missed out on so much. Now, I am wondering - if and when this is sorted out, the tumour removed (if the doc is right and I do believe he is) will my aches and pains go? Will I have a better quality of life? If osteoporosis has set it - can it be reversed? I have also noticed very recently things becoming much worse. If I move my hand in a different way the pain is unbearable and feels like something has just broken - my index finger has started moving involuntary, kind of jumping - is this related to anything?
Thyroid :: Severe Weakness And Nausea After Parathyroid Surgery
I don't know if anyone else has experienced any problems after parathyroid surgery. My surgery was 3 weeks ago. I am experiencing on and off again periods of severe weakness and nausea. My labs have all come back normal. I almost feel bedridden at times. Very unpleasant.
View 10 RepliesThyroid :: Do I Really Need Hormone Replacement?
I am having all sorts of health issues. My main concern is the extreme muscle weakness and pain. I have had so many tests to rule out lupus, ms, myotis etc. I take several vitamins like d3(I am deficient), b12, magnesium, k2, Brazil nuts for selenium. I was told I had Hashimoto's recently because my thyroid antibodies were slightly elevated.
My main concern is, after reading a lot about hypothyroid recently, do I even need Levoxyl with a tsh of 6.0? That is not extremely high. My t3 and t4 are fine. No goiters. My weight has always been fine. When I was diagnosed with hypothyroid eight years ago my main problem was constipation, painful first day of period, and trouble getting pregnant.
It is obvious my thyroid issue is not that bad. Matter of fact the endo wondered why I was there. Maybe this medicine is causing my troubles with the muscle issues? Am I in and out of hypo/hyper? Is the Hashimoto's causing this or the thyroid med and dosage?
Hashimoto's Disease - Terribly Low Vitamin D And Thyroid Level 13
Over the last year and a half, they have been testing my thyroid as it keeps showing up as underactive (no they have not done anything about it, for some reason they just keep getting more bloods done?). Until 2 years ago, all of my bloods came back perfect, with a high iron count of 148, but the other levels pretty much smack in the middle of normal ranges. This time, My iron came back as 53 - the doc said for me this is quite bad because mine are usually so high. My Thyroid level was 13, and he told me that my Vitamin D was terribly low. Although he did not give me the exact level of Vit D, I can only assume it was rather terrible as that is the only supplement he told me that I need to get onto immediately.
So, I know these levels are not great, but as it was a rushed appointment, he told me those levels, told me that I have Hashimoto's Disease and wrote up another batch of blood tests. So now I am lost.
Can anyone tell me what on earth this all means?
I AM going back to him, but couldn't get an appointment until mid/end next week (which is great because my bloods should be back by then anyway).
This will be the 4th set of bloods I have done in the last 18-20 months, all of which showed an underactive thyroid. I'm just not sure why they are still testing?
Is this normal? And what do those iron and thyroid levels mean? I'm assuming it isn't anything drastic or he would have done more about it?
Birth Control :: Switching From Higher Hormone To Lower Hormone
I was on Apri for about 2.5 months. I had 3 months of pills but I skipped the placebo pills in each of the packs. I was having a lot of breast pain so my doctor switched me to Microgestin 1/20 to an actual continuous cycle prescription that has no placebos. I forgot to ask when I should start the new pills, so I just started the Microgestin after the last active pill of the Apri. Thinking back now, I probably should have waited until the end of the placebos to get a period.
About 3 or 4 pills into the Microgestin, I started getting a period. I actually had it where a huge chunk of the uterine lining fell out at once, it was white and textured like uncooked chicken skin. I've had this period for about 6 or 7 days now and it doesn't show signs of letting up. I'm worried about when it's going to end. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation or know any more details about this? I should have asked my doctor more questions when he gave me the new prescription.
HI Cholesterol Level With HbA1c Level Closed To Pre-diabetic
I had a blood test around 7 months ago which showed my blood sugar Hb1AC to be close to pre-diabetic levels, which freaked me out. My cholesterol was also a little high.
I cut down on sweet things (which I love!) a lot, and had my blood tested again a few weeks ago. good news is that the blood sugar levels have dropped, triglycerides low, liver function great. HOWEVER, my cholesterol has leapt to 6.6! So annoyed!
The nurse quizzed me on my diet and the only thing we can pinpoint is that I eat a lot of cheese, so have started eating low fat cheese or not eating as much in general. I generally eat what I consider to be a healthy diet, oily fish, veg, etc but not sure what to believe.
I read that a high fat diet is now the way to go with low carb, but whilst this seems to have helped with blood sugar, it has not done my cholesterol any good.
I have to go back in 3 months. Anyone else had this type of result?
Addison's :: Understanding Low Cortisol
About two months ago, I had mentioned to my personal trainer that I was feeling very tired with low blood pressure. This had been going on for a couple months, on and off every couple of weeks. He mentioned that it could be cortisol-related.
I went home and did a lot of researching about the issue and found that I matched a lot of the symptoms of low cortisol. I went in to see my doctor a couple days later. When I mentioned that I thought it was low cortisol, he said that the adrenal glands usually do the job and that it probably wasn't that. He tried to prescribe me anti-depressants which I declined, and then ran a few blood tests, along with an AM only cortisol test (it was about 11AM).
The test came back with a level of 17 mg/dL of cortisol taken at 11AM. However, he said my blood sugar was 54 which was very low. Also, my Vitamin D was below normal ranges. Some other counts were off, but nothing that really pointed to anything that could be causing what I was feeling.
I took a multivitamin for a few weeks. I had also been congested in the back of my throat for two months, so I went back to see the doctor if he could do anything about that. He determined it was a sinus infection, and prescribed Cefuroxime for two weeks to get rid of the congestion. I asked if that could help my fatigue to which he said it could help.
So I finished the two week round of antibiotics, and now it's two weeks later and I still feel horrible. Here's the main things that I am experiencing. I really don't feel depressed and feel like I enjoy life a lot.
- Inability to wake up for work. I wake up around 9AM, and feel like I haven't slept at all. I previously had to wake up around 5AM to get everything done in the morning
- Feeling of drowsiness through the morning, up until noon. Sometimes like today it will last all day.
- Extremely low blood pressure while standing. This starts around 2PM every day and lasts until around 5PM. I usually don't fall down and just black out, but recently I fell because after standing up and injured my knee.
- Fluctuations in appetite, I will eat a TON of food with out gaining any weight (5-6 meals a day), but I exercise a lot so this isn't super concerning. My weight is constant.
- Itchy red eyes when I wake up
- Exhaustion when sitting, feels like I should lay down but not low blood pressure
- Hypoglycemia, my blood sugar is really low in the mornings, and then again in the evenings before dinner. Between that it feels fine but I don't do regular testing on this to know for sure.
Also I am 20 years old male and a competitive cyclist. I eat very healthy foods (although a lot to keep up my activity). I live at a high altitude (7,400ft).
Lyme Disease :: Understanding Western Blot Test
I just received the results of a Western Blot Lyme Test done by Quest Labs. And I am not at all sure at how to interpret, nor has my research given any helpful clues.
Anyway I test Non-Reactive on all bands except for the following:
Reactive on B Burgdorferi 93 KD (IGG)
My primary physician office called and said the test was Negative, but I am not so sure as I understand this band is quite specific for Lyme.
I am not at all eager to take more blood tests as I am dealing with another health condition that has involved numerous blood tests.
I am not sure how to interpret this or what is the next step.
Lyme Disease :: Interpreting / Understanding Western Blot Results
Hi all,
I have had mysterious symptoms for over a decade (continual sinus infections, TMJ, muscle twitches, joint pain that comes and goes, fatigue, headaches, new food allergies, IBS, new onset of anxiety..)
After becoming entirely fed up with treating each of these ailments individually, I began to put the pieces together of what could be going on.
An ENT suggested Lyme testing and I have now been working with a LLD. She ordered Western Blot though Igenex and these were the results:
IGM-"Negative" but the following came up:
**23-25 IND
**34 IND
**39 IND
**41 +++
58 +
66 +
IGA Negative except 41++
My LLD was very brief and said no Lyme...taking a closer look and doing my own research I am now concerned about the amount of activity and INDs that came back although the test is still negative.
Hyperparathyroidism? Calcium And Vitamin D Levels
So I just got blood tests back and my vitamin d was 26 which is low and my calcium was 10.3 which is a tad high. I am 25 year old female. Should I be concerned about hyperparathyroidism?? I didn't get my PTH checked but my thyroid is normal. I don't know if they have anything to do.

Has anyone been successful using natural remedies such as lemon juice and apple cider vinegar in lowering urine calcium and uric acid levels? After several episodes of gross hematuria it was determined that I have bilateral stones. A 24 hr urine test showed elevated calcium and uric acid. I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
