Thyroid :: Tsh Low, Free T4 High, Free T3 Midrange
Here are my lab results from 2/7/14:
tsh- .028 range- .45-4.5
t4 free direct- 1.86 range-.82-1.77
t3 free serum- 3.2 range- 2.0- 4.4
Last year:
lab results from 3/26/13:
tsh- .096 range- .45- 4.5
t4 free direct- 1.53 range- .82- 1.77
t3 free serum- 3.1 range- 2.0-4.4
It looks like I might benefit with the addition of t3 meds. (cytomel) to lower my free t4 and raise my free t3. I feel fine, and anytime I've tried to lower my dose of levothyroxine (.125) even a little bit (.112), I get brain fog, lethargy and GI symptoms. I've been on the same dose for 13 years and my tsh has been low since I started medication. I've only recently requested the free t3 & free t4. My main concern with adding cytomel is that it will further reduce my tsh & the dr will be concerned. This is my 3rd dr in the 7 years since I moved south & every one has been concerned about bone density & heart issues. Any suggestions when I talk to the dr? btw- no hyper symptoms :-) Thanks!
Thyroid :: Low TSH, High Free T4, Low Free T3
I had RAI done long ago and been on Synthroid 175. My test always come back with low TSH, high free T4, and low Free T3.
My last results were 1 week ago...
TSH .012
Free T4 1.48 (range .52-1.21)
Free T3 2.09 (range 2.20-3.80)
I have depression and would like get my thyroid ranges in a more normal profile to see if it had a positive effect on the depression.
I have tried cytomel which made me feel hyper at only 5mcg, but only tried it for a few days...
Thanks for any suggestions....

I've been on Synthroid medication for 20 plus years and have done pretty well on it until recently. This routine test showed a TSH level > 100 and my Free T4 at .24 which is low. I've been placed on Synthroid at 300 mg and I'm waiting to see a specialist. In the meantime, I'm wondering what does this means?

View 2 RepliesThyroid :: High TSH, Normal Free T4 - Fatigue, Depression, Feeling Cold
I am a 51 year old female and had a physical last week with my general practitioner because it has been a long time. It included blood tests. One test was about the thyroid and I've got conflicting information about the result.
The report says:
TSH Reflex to Free T4
TSH RFLX is 8.25 - and is high, the normal range is shown as 0.40-4.50
T4, FREE
Thyroxine, Free, Direct - 0.8 - and is in range, range is shown as 0.8-1.8
I've done some research and it looks like this combination falls in the hypothyroidism range. However, my doctor says it is fine because the T4 FREE number is in range. There is no family history of thyroid problems. I'm concerned because I have some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism (fatigue, depression, feeling cold).
Does this sound right to those of you who have experience with thyroid disease? Should I see an endocrinologist?

My son had some blood work done due to chronic diarrhea among many other things (he's on the autism spectrum, ADD, sweetest kid ever-had to throw that in) and we were trying to rule out celiac and who knows what else. Anyway his TSH and Free T4 were normal, but his Free T3 was slightly high. We rechecked it 4 weeks later and it's still just slightly high, with the other numbers being normal. His doctor thinks we shouldn't worry and should just monitor, I'm just looking for any advice if anyone has seen this because I keep reading that typically Free T3 is high when TSH is low?

Thyroid :: Low TSH Normal Free T4
I am getting really frustrated with my dr. D not really giving me answers! In april 2013 my TSH levels were .48 (within normal range) I got tested last week on Friday and my TSH levels are .25 and my free T4 is 1.1 (within normal range). I have been feeling really sick lately with very bad nausea (I am not pregnant) and have just been feeling really down with a rapid heart rate of 103 bpm! My dr says I'm obese and that's why I am having these symptoms but seems to be ignoring my thyroid test results. Is it because it's not low enough to worry about and it's really no big deal yet? I also have many nodule and one takes some color.

I just received my latest thyroid lab results and my TSH was a 0.06 (range 0.34-5.60) and my T4 FREE is 0.99 (range of 0.61-1.12). My Dr said to continue my dosage of medications and we would recheck in a year. Should I be concerned

I've had Hashimoto's Disease for 12 years and started taking Levothyroxine. For the past 8 years, I've been on a constant dose, and been very happy with no symptoms of hyper or hypo. Recently I moved and had to go to a new dr, who is very upset about the low (almost zero) TSH even though my Free T3 and Free T4 were normal. She wants me to totally go off all Levothyroxine for 6-8 weeks to "reset" my pituitary. I am very worried about what will happen to me if I did this. I tried going down in dosage, but all my hypo symptoms (gained 10 lbs in a month, extreme lethargy, depression, etc.) returned. Anyone out there have any ideas on what to do?
View 4 RepliesHormones :: High DHEA And Free Testosterone
I'm 21 and for about a year now I've been having irregular periods and some spotting in between periods. About a month a go I went to my first obgyn appointment and she sent me to get some blood work done. I call and ask them for the result and I have high levels of free testosterone and high DHEA. The only thing she told me as to go back for a prescription to start birth control and the hormone levels will balance out. Shouldn't I have more tests done to see what is causing these high levels?
I'm currently waiting for the authorization for an pelvic ultrasound and my lower stomach and back are killing me. Could this be an side effect from the high hormone levels? Will birth control treat this?
Thyroid :: Gluten Free Diet And An End To Hashimoto's
I have seen some videos that support a gluten free diet and an end to Hashimoto's.
Has anyone tried going completely gluten free and had an improvement in their symptoms or even and reduction or end to their meds?
Thyroid Disorders :: Normal T4, Free But Elevated TSH
Last week I found that my my TSH was 5.73 mIu/L and shortly after that, that my Thyroid Peroxidase AB was 393 Iu/mL. My T4, Free came back at 1.3 ng/dI which I believe is in the normal range. I am currently waiting on my Thyroglobulin AB. Has anyone has an elevated TSH and Thyroid Peroxidase AB but a normal range T4 and still been diagnosed with a Thyroid problem?
View 6 RepliesThyroid Disorders :: TSH Low, Free T3 And T4 Normal Range
I am 37 years old and about 16 weeks pregnant. When I had my first set of prenatal labs, my TSH came back as low at 0.0643. They called me back in to do a thyroid panel, and I just got my results back which were TSH 0.092, free T3 3.6, and free T4 0.95. The nurse made note that T3 and T4 were in normal range, but TSH is "very low" and they referred me to maternal fetal medicine. The doctor's note says "may need small dose of Synthroid."
I am very confused now. Doesn't a low TSH mean HYPERthyroidism? And wouldn't Synthroid be for HYPOthyroidism? I am finding so much conflicting information online, and I have to wait until my appointment on the 21st to get an answer on all this. Of course, it's all making me very nervous. Can someone help explain or shed some light on my lab results as far as what they could mean? I was seeing that a lower-ish T4 and low TSH can actually indicate hypo, so I'm really confused now.
Hypothyroidism :: High TSH But Normal Free T4 - Panic Attacks
For sometime I have had panic attacks and frequent infections of chest and ears and viruses.Last April things moved on quickly and I was covered in painful itchy blisters, neuropathic pain, vertigo and feeling shut down. I was covered in bruises. Ambulanceman reported an ischaemic looking ECG and took me to A and E.
The only findings wee raised TSH with normal free t4 and normal Thyroid peroxidase abody. Also raised basophil and eosinophil. They said hypothyroid but my GP says no as no autoantibodies?
I am still suffering-eyebrows gone, no energy, dry wrinkled skin and 3 more courses of antibiotics for chest and throat infections. Any ideas, anyone? Also sight got really bad and joints ache ++
Thyroid :: Choking Feeling - Gluten Free Helps?
I am increasing slowly my Synthroid to .112 This week, I am developing a choking feeling in my throat so its swelling. My MD wants me to be 100% gluten free. First of all, FinnMaid, can you help me with this or Anyone out there. How common is the throat swelling when you are increasing meds and do you increase or decrease to make it go away. Also have you truly found that going gluten free does help? I have Hashimotos and am in my 70's.

I have done a health check and have gotten my thyroid blood results back:
fT3 25.70 lab range: (1.4 - 4.2 Pg/ml)
fT4 2.87 lab range: (0.80 - 2.20 Pg/ml)
TSH 4.95 lab range: (0.40 - 6.00 mIU/ml)
The T3 value is sky-high, and T4 and TSH are high as well.
The doctor was also stumped and said the results don't match an ECG that was done at the same time. I should be having heart problems, but everything looked fine.
I have done a lot of Googling, but can't find how to interpret these results.
I have taken supplemental iodine 150 mcg for the last 5 months, following the advice of a common popular diet regime. For a while, I have also taken selenium 55 mcg, but stopped this about a month ago.
To me these results look hyperthyroid (T4 and T3) and hypothyroid (high TSH)
Can you make more sense of these results?
A bit more background
I have had a pulsating "tinnitus," - something like a heartbeat in my left ear for the last week, but maybe 4 times a normal heart rate. This was the original reason for wanting to do a checkup, and also including the thyroid. My resting heart rate is about 78, which is about my normal.
I have recently had two strong cups of coffee every day - maybe about 300 mg caffeine total.
