Cervical Spondylosis :: Computer Use Make It Worse
I have been off work since the end of May and Cervical Spondylosis was diagnosed by the Occupational Health doctor via the Local Authority for whom I work. This discomfort and pain started and deteriorated whilst working on the computer at work. The OH doctor says it is age related and will not attribute this problem to the fact that I spend most of my working life in front of a computer. I have had physio and acupuncture and they say it is to do with posture. This treatment has not resolved the problem and I have now been referred to the Orthopedic Service. I am fighting this with the help of Unison. Has anyone out there had a similar experience.

I have been off work for 6 months because of physical health problems then my antidepressants stopped working. I have been referred to CBT so am waiting for an appointment.
Can you have CBT while you are working?
I am also waiting on OH for work. Would it be better to have OH first before CBT or at the same time/similar time?

4. Spiders on your desk...;
5. 'Throbbing' objects such as keyboards;

7. Seeing people morph into skeletons

10. Talking to people who aren't there.
Fortunately my medication stops at about number 6.

I have a small hard lump behind my ear and I'm terrified it's something awful like a brain tumor... Does anyone else have this or know what it could be?
View 4 RepliesMental Health :: Lithium For Depression - Experiences?
I have been severely depressed for just over 8 months (first time in my life). My current drug regime is 300 mg Venlafaxine, 30mg Mirtazapine and 100 mg Quetiapine. I have had a very limited response to these drugs and am due back to see my psychiatrist week after next.
At my last appointment the psychiatrist said that our next option would be Lithium. I am not bipolar. I feel rather frightened by this but at the same time, am so desperate to feel better, I'm almost willing to try anything.

Why is it slowly killing me in so much pain. Yet I still want to drink it?
View 3 RepliesMental Conditions :: OCD Developed After Puberty?
I recently noticed that some mild OCD I developed before entering high school has gotten worse. While it used to be compulsive list-making about memories it has turned into touching things/thinking things/blinking/breathing/walking either two or four times. If I touch something on one side, I have to touch it on the other. Many rituals have to do with time, and sometimes if I'm reading a page it's more about completing a symmetry task than actually reading. Memories are "things" which can be visualized like I'm currently living in them. This gets worse during times of high stress.
My question is, why did this develop when I was fourteen? I was always a bit sensitive to certain sounds and dirty surfaces, but those mild obsessions are NOTHING like what I experience now. I assume that every ritual is a stress-relief technique and that since my mind's always racing, my brain feels a need to organize things. But I'm not an organized person, and when I'm feeling low, I almost never complete my work. I can obsess over certain past actions for hours and analyze situations to the point where I'm practically making up other people's reactions or pretending I'm inside their head.

View 2 RepliesSTDs :: Anxiety / Depression - Physical And Mental Symptoms
I have now lived with what I think is an STD for the past 4 years and it has completely ruined my life. I have many physical symptoms, but what affects me the most is how it affects me mentally. Extreme depression and anxiety, thoughts of suicide, significant memory loss, complete loss of sex drive, inability to think clearly are some examples. You may be thinking this is depression, but i've been treated for depression over the entire 4 years. All the medications I've taken, all the therapy I've done, none of it has improved anything. Both physical and mental symptoms get better and worse together as if the disease goes dormant, and I feel a lot more like my old self.
View 1 RepliesVenlafaxine Withdrawal - Dizziness, Dry Mouth, Excess Sleepiness, Confusion, Mental Oblivions
I've been on venlafaxine for about 2 years, taking a dose of 150 mg per day. I used to take the generic pills which are cheaper. To be honest I didn't even know there was an 'original' one, named Effexor, until last friday.
When I changed town I continued the treatment with another doctor, and he suggested i came off the drug. I thought I'd try, and for the first month I reduced from 150mg to 75mg. Nothing wrong there. Then I took another step and reduced from 75 to 37,5mg and in the fourth day I collapsed.
I had this breakdown, feeling all kind of weird symptoms: dizziness, dry mouth, excess sleepiness, confusion, mental oblivions (memory lapses), total apathy, total loss of libido.
I got really scared and tried to go back on my own since I was off town and couldn't talk to the doctor.
I took for 3 days the 150 mg pills but that didn't help. I consulted another doctor and he suggested to take a 107,5 mg dose (75+37,5) for 20 days and then restore the original 150 mg dose afterwards.
It's been 6 days since I started taking this dose and I still feel awful! I feel like I'm not the same anymore!!! It's the strangest thing ever. I had to ask for a job-absent license cause I can't work in these conditions.
One other thing is that a moved from the generic pills to the Effexor (from Pfizer - Wyeth) - the doc suggested that - and I don't know if that is making things worse...
I feel really awkward, useless, like my brain is in slow motion. I've been thinking about going' cold turkey since taking back venlafaxine did not help.

Dry Eyes Due To Computer Use?

View 5 RepliesEye Floaters - 20 Years Old - Using Computer A Lot?
I'm 20 and have to use computer a lot and because of that I have developed few eye floaters. I can see them more during sunlight and when I looked at light colored places it seems to grow in numbers. They move as I move my eye and become stable when I concentrate on a single area. I have heard that eye floaters are not so common in youngsters but unfortunately I can see few of them.
Is there any way to get rid of them? I would prefer natural treatments over any other kind of treatments. Is there any eye drop or something which I should put in my eyes Or something which I should avoid to drink such as alcohol or anything as such.
Narcolepsy Due To Computer Addiction?
My mother is a 54 year old woman whose life is controlled by the use of her computer. It's affecting her performance at work (I've seen it) as well as her relationship with her family. She neglects her family and many household chores are left undone or half done. Her personal hygiene has also become vile. Recently, while sitting at her computer I've noticed her falling asleep, only for a few seconds, then waking up again. This happens frequently. So, to be specific, can a cyber-relationship addiction cause narcolepsy?
View 1 RepliesPain In Back Due To Computer Use
I have had a referred pain in the back for many years now which is worsened by sitting on the computer.
The pain is in the left neck but when I massage the area just below the left scapula it disappears. I also find that lifting weights help. I'm guessing my muscles are in poor shape, I'm pretty lean.
Here is a diagram of the area. [URL...]
I have been to doctors, physiotherapists, chiro and masseuses. All just disregard the area and also about the weight training suggesting it has nothing to do with it. They start cracking bones and massaging other areas and I feel no better.
There must be a link! Anyone care to shed some light on this?
Lasik Surgery :: Strain In Eye After Computer Use
Has anyone else experienced this after LASIK? I am 42 years old and had myopia. After LASIK it seems that my non-dominant eye is slightly overcorrected at +0.25 and my dominant eye is slightly undercorrected at -0.25. This seems to be opposite what would happen if you choose monovision. Thought the amounts would be different. But now I notice if I am on the computer for a bit and then look up in the distance, my dominant eye is very blurry. The non-dominant eye is fine. The blurriness usually goes away after 5-10 minutes. But my dominant eye then feels strained even after this. At the eye doctor they had me read the really small print for presbyopia and I could read it. The doctor thinks I may need computer glasses, but I am 6 weeks post surgery. He wants to hold off a bit more in case my prescription changes a little bit more.
Also my dominant eye has been extremely dry since the day of the surgery. It also watered and felt a stinging sensation the day of the surgery. It also had the red blood vessels. To this day I think I can still see where the suction ring went on in the whites of my eyes. My non-dominant eye has not given me a single problem. If both eyes were like this I would be pleased, but it has been hell with the other eye.
Pain At The Back Of Eyes - Computer Use?
For over 18 months now I've suffered from a pain at the back of my eyes when using computer monitors, TV screens or other kinds of backlit LED screens (eg ATMs). It started suddenly when new, larger monitors were introduced at my workplace. It's not eye strain, because it happens immediately - more as if light or radiation is reaching the back of my eye that shouldn't. I've had my eyes checked numerous times and nothing shows up as being wrong, although I suddenly developed a cluster of 'floaters' in my right eye at the same time, when I had none before. I use blue filter glasses and they help a little (but not enough), and I've tried anti-glare and radiation-filtering screens, sunglasses, orange-tinted specs, etc, and just about every kind of eye drop known to man. It's been suggested that high-speed flicker may be involved but I can't understand how it could cause pain in a matter of seconds. I've been trying to work out what's wrong for ages, because it's affecting my work and home life. Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. I'm wondering if my eyes have been damaged in a way that can't easily be detected?
