Progesterone To Help Regulate Sphincter Of Oddi Function?
Does anyone out here have any experience with using progesterone to help regulate the function of the Sphincter of Oddi?
My history: I am a healthy and active 132lb, 42 year old female, but I have been having pain in my upper right shoulder, neck and collarbone for three years now that has really curtailed my life and work. I have tried massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, drugs, strength training, chiro, all with no results. Recently a chiro noticed that my gallbladder area was tender and mentioned that gallbladder problems can refer pain up to the right shoulder area through the phrenic nerve. When I started tracking my pain and food I did notice a connection with pain in my shoulder and my right lower ribs as well (which I had been hiding with lots of ibuprofen). An ultrasound, blood work, and HIDA came back normal (at least that's how the doc reads it), but I'm still having pains when I eat oily foods. So now I am thinking I might have problems with the sphincter and with bile backing up creating pressure on the phrenic nerve. Another symptom is that I am now also having pains on my left side which could be the pancreas being impacted, which shares the common duct and sphincter.
So my question stems from the fact that I had a hysterectomy several years back and have only been on estrogen replacement. I've recently found out that progesterone is important for relaxing the Sphincter of Oddi muscles as well as gallbladder function (as well as many other things). When my nutritionist suggested a few months back to use Progonol, a progesterone cream, it did have a positive effect on the pain within two weeks, but it also caused acid reflux (it also loosens the valve between the esophagus and the stomach), so I had to stop taking it and now we are trying to figure out the best way to introduce it back into my body.

View 1 RepliesLipitor Better Than Simvastatin?
I’ve been on simvastatin 60 mg for six months now and so far it seems that it only managed to bring my cholesterol number by only 3 points. My cardiologist started me on this after a minor heart attack, so I can’t just quit taking it, but given that I’ve changed my diet dramatically and I’m trying to be more physically active I feel like I should be getting at least somewhat better results.
Besides, simvastatin seems to be giving me very frequent headaches, so I did a bit of research and it seems like Lipitor is way more effective than simvastatin. If anyone has experience with these meds, would you recommend switching to Lipitor?
Switching From Lipitor To Simvastatin?
I’ve been on Lipitor for over a year now and I feel like like I’ve been putting up with side effects of this medication for far too long. I’ve not been having muscle aches, but I feel like I’m having flu for this whole year I’m on the Lipitor.
My doctor says that as far as statin medication go, Lipitor is one with least side effects and its more potent than simvastatin, but I was on simvastatin before and it didn’t feel as bad as Lipitor does. I guess I can insist that my doctor puts me back on simvastatin, but still, I’m wondering will it be as effective in controlling my cholesterol?
Simvastatin In Comparison To Lipitor?
I’m currently on simvastatin and as the latest blood test showed, it only lowered my cholesterol by 2 points, even though I’ve been on this medication for several months. I’ve been also experiencing some side effects from simvastatin, mainly headaches and stomach pain.
Now that I’m looking up info online, I’ve found out that Lipitor is more effective than simvastatin which would mean I’d need much lower dose, but I’m wondering will I have same side effects? If anyone on here is on simvastatin or Lipitor, what would you recommend?
More Effective - Simvastatin Or Lipitor?
after I had my last physical exam for work I was bit surprised when the doctor informed me my blood tests showed that both my cholesterol and triglyceride levels were borderline high and that I should go talk to my physician about my option for lowering those. Otherwise I passed with flying colors - I’m not overweight and I exercise twice a week.
My physician gave me several more guides on the diet, of course I’m continuing with my exercise regime, but he also told me he thinks I should think about starting statin medication, either simvastatin or Lipitor in his opinion. Which one of these is more effective?
Difference Between Simvastatin And Lipitor?
Just recently, after considering myself to be pretty healthy person, I was shocked when my doctor told me that my regular yearly blood tests showed that my bad cholesterol levels were way too high. He immediately prescribed me simvastatin, together with insisting I make even more dietary changes and start to exercise (which is a bit of a problem due to my bad back).
Simvastatin caused me to feel sick for weeks, I was barely able to work and I insisted to be switched to different medication. Now I’m on Lipitor, and if anyone could explain me what are the major differences between simvastatin and Lipitor?
Lipitor To Simvastatin :: Sore Throat
I was on lipitor 20mg with no problem. I was switched to simvastatin 40 (i think in error) and soon began to experience a constant low level sore throat. I was going out of my mind trying to figure the cause before I realized it may be this drug. Has anyone had this experience?
View 1 RepliesLipitor Side Effects - Dementia
My husband has been taking lipitor for about 10 years. About a year & a half ago he started showing signs of what I thought was dementia until I researched it online. I couldn't believe my eyes....he was a poster boy for the side effects of lipitor! I contacted our doctor about it but he wouldn't hear of him trying to quit taking it. I know we don't have to take the meds that doctors prescribe but they're supposed to be the experts & have our best interests at heart but I'm so worried that my husband will get worse.

View 3 RepliesLipitor - Muscle Soreness And Weakness
I have been advised to take Lipitor but experienced muscle soreness and weakness. My doctor then reduced dosage, but it still had the same effect. He then recommended I take a low dosage two times a week as long as I could tolerate it. Will such a low dosage have any positive effect on reducing bad cholesterol?
View 2 RepliesLipitor (atorvastatin) Causing Migraine Headaches?
I've been diagnosed with hyperlipidaemia and high blood pressure. I've started taking 20mg of Lipitor few weeks ago to help me maintain LDL and total cholesterol levels. My doctor who prescribed Lipitor told me that it should also help with my hypertension. But since I've been taking it I got a terrible migraine headache. I was literally unable to get up or to do anything. The migraine pain is especially severe during the night. I could barely sleep. I never had a migraine before, just regular headaches, but not too often. I also got diarrhea and really bad smell when passing gas. Sometimes I feel nausea and cramps in my stomach. I've read that ingredient of Lipitor called atorvastatin calcium could be a cause of migraine headaches and other symptoms I'm experiencing. My doctor is unavailable until January, so I discontinued Lipitor by myself because I think it actually caused a migraine. Has anyone had any experience with Lipitor and migraine headaches while using it?
View 8 RepliesLipitor Side Effects - Constantly Tired
Since I got diagnosed with high cholesterol last year and was prescribed Lipitor it seems my health is getting worse and I am constantly tired. I sleep 8 to 10 hours and yet feel as though I have not slept. My doctor thinks it is my body adjusting to my new meds and told me to quit smoking and reduce caffeine. So I still feel so tired.

View 4 RepliesAtorvastatin (Lipitor) Causing Severe Muscle Pain?
I had a heart attack in June 2012 and was put on many medications one of them being Atorvastatin (Lipitor) 40mg per day. After a couple of months I was in absolute agony with muscle pain which started in my left arm and shoulder, even had some numbness in fingers. The pain over the last 18 months or so has worsened going into my left shoulder and left side of my neck and now is in the whole of both my shoulders and all the back of my neck. The doctor has constantly denied it is any of the meds that I am taking and has sent me to physiotherapy many times, needless to say none of the various therapists have helped. I have been to see an osteopath, this didn't help either. I have had steroid injections into one of my shoulders, no help from that.
My pain gets worse by the week and is seriously affecting my daily life from work (I am a secretary) to driving to doing any of my enjoyed sports of fishing and golf.
I have spoken to many friends on this statin and they all complain of similar muscle pain. Why won't the doctors listen to me when I tell them this.
I have today stopped taking the Lipitor as I cannot take this pain any more. I have previously stopped this on two separate occasions and found the pain almost went away until the Doctors got quite stroppy with me and told me I was going against medical advice doing what I was doing in stopping the medication.
Is there others out there that have suffered this and have found what to do to get GP's to listen to their patient?

Breathless :: Side Effect Of Lipitor OR Lisinopril(ACE) OR Anxiety?
I had a heart attack in mid October due to a congenital enlarged artery. The stent was unsuccessful and I lost 10-15% of my heart. My EF is around 46/48 and the doctor has never mentioned heart failure, but I know I need to do all I can to try to prevent that from happening.
Anyway I am on metoprolol tartrate (beta) 12.5 twice a day, plavix, aspirin, lipitor, and in December the dr put me on a very low dose of lisinopril (Ace) 5 mg.
Lately my back has been aching as the day goes on and I feel like I can't take a deep breath. Let me clarify, when I sleep and when I first wake up I feel good and normal. But as the day goes on I start to get some muscle aches and my breathing seems weird. I don't feel like I'm about to suffocate and I can breath normally fine, but it's like I feel the need every few minutes to take a big deep breath and when I try I can't totally get a full really deep breath like I used to.
Could this be the lipitor or the lisinopril or maybe it's anxiety and it's all in my head because sometimes I don't even notice it. I take the lipitor and the lisinopril at bedtime and sleep well and wake up feeling well, this usually happens about mid-day or so.
