Frozen Shoulder :: MUA (manipulation Under Anaesthesia)
I've just got home after Having MUA with NHS. I noticed I can raise my arm higher but been advised not to also to keep it rested.
I'm just worried that if i don't exercise my shoulder it will freeze up again. How long before i should start exercising my shoulder again and any good websites with descriptive diagrams on any exercises i should be doing at this stage as i wasn't shown any to do and if i were to book an appointment with my physiotherapist at my gp's centre i would have to wait anything up to a month. I'd Like to be going to swimming weekly with my children again and getting my normal life back, washing my hair properly day to day housework and gardening too before winter sets in will i have to wait long to do this
Hallux Valgus (Bunions) :: Manipulation Under Anaesthesia After Operation
I had a bunion operation on my right foot in May 2015 as walking was as painful as sitting on a cactus. The operation went well considering that they put down "hip replacement" on my medical card by mistake 20 minutes before my bunion operation. The following months were quite painful, in fact I would say that you will feel less pain if you have a daily Brazilian wax or swim with some alligators. If you love high heels like me well you have more chances to marry Frank Sinatra than being able to wear heels for at least 8 months! Recovery is a long road and after following the instructions from the surgeon to rest, my big toe became frozen & looks like a fish finger , I don't try to wear open sandals around kids in case they feel like fish fingers. My surgeon has booked me for a manipulation under anaesthesia to make my toe more flexible ... In other words he will pull my big toe until it's longer than Brooklyn bridge and snap it like sugar snaps.
just wondering if anyone had MUA after a bunion operation and what the results have been, was the recovery a long and painful experience like the bunion operation ? Can you wear normal shoes again and pain free ? All your precious advices are greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading, Laila
Knee :: Manipulation Under Anaesthetic (MUA) After TKR
I'm 12 weeks post TKR and saw my surgeon today. He has suggested (recommended) that I undergo MUA asap as my knee bend isn't what it ought to be. I understand this involves the manual procedure then being put on a machine overnight in hospital then intensive physio. My concern is that of course my surgeon cannot guarantee if it will improve things or to what extent it will if it does. He has also said it will cause pain but can't say how much and how long for. I've done well over the last 12 weeks in other ways. The wound has healed well, I can fully straighten the new knee, I have been driving for six weeks and I can walk for at least an hour with virtually no pain in my new knee. I just wondered if anyone has undergone this MUA procedure and if so, what was it like? I'm in two minds whether I should do it or persevere a little longer with more physio.

I just recently join this forum and would like to hear everybody's experience with their frozen shoulder. I just turned 47 years old. My right shoulder started to "freeze" last November. I had tried steroid shots, acupuncture, cupping and regular PT since Feb. Now I only can pick up my arm without bending my elbow about 90 degrees from my body. I feel the stubborn pain from my shoulder daily and very sad that I can't dance any more. Now I am also considering Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA). Advice please? Worked? Recovery time?
View 22 RepliesHysterectomy :: Fear Of Anaesthesia
I have never had an operation before, I'm not bothered at all about having my womb cut out; I'm afraid of being anaesthetised. If it were possible, I wouldn't mind just having the area anaesthetised and staying awake and watching the whole operation.
I have asthma, I am allergic to some local anaesthetics as well as other medicines, and I have developed breathing difficulties when taking certain medicines, including sleeping pills. I'm afraid that I will stop breathing or have an allergic reaction. Also that I may wake up in the middle of the operation (I've sometimes stayed awake after taking strong prescription sleeping pills), that I might become brain damaged,,go into a coma, go into a locked-in state where I can sense everything around me but everybody thinks I'm unconscious, or worst of all, just never wake up.
I had a cat who went completely deaf after being anaesthetised for a routine dental exam, but he had a heart condition already, which may have caused this by preventing enough oxygen from getting to his ears when he was under the anaesthetic.
I know people who have had many operations and they were fine every time. Did anybody else have the same fear of anaesthesia before their operation? How did you get over it?
After Effects Of General Anaesthesia?
My partner will be going in for minor surgery in a few weeks and was offered the choice of local or general anaesthesia for the op - she opted for general. Slight predicament, we are trying to keep it quiet. My question is, is it difficult to hide the fact that you've just had a general anaesthetic?
Bone / Joint :: Knee Pain: Ligament Tightness Behind Knee, Slight Knee Pain Under Kneecap
So I dislocated my knee in January of this year. I was given a device that isolates my knee cap and hold it in place. I wore the device off and on over the year whenever my knee would feel sort of irregular. I worked out routinely to help strengthen my knee, it helped the pain somewhat, but mostly just made me feel better about the way I looked, and kept me healthy. I haven't worked out since some time before Thanksgiving. Starting this week i've started to feel this new akward feeling behind my kneecap, sort of like the ligament behind my knee cap is tightening, sort of similar to how it felt when I dislocated my knee, but not exactly the same. I get the pain after fully bending my knee, for example when I am on my knees doing my job stocking shelves at work, when I stand to my feet I can usually feel the pain. I try doing a couple of different stretches when to make the feeling go away a bit, but it comes back, and then it eventually goes away again.
My knee "pops" (makes a loud popping noise and pressure) pretty regularly now but when I get off of work and off of my knees I experience the discomfort much less. I want to start exercising again on Monday, but I am scared I might dislocate again. I will try using the knee cap device again tomorrow, but I feel as though whenever I use the device, it makes my knee feel like jello the next day, and make me want to use the device again, even though I was advised by my doctor that I should not need to use it regularly. ....

Has anyone else been put to sleep for their biopsy? Saw gyno for first time and whilst they said some fusing was present she couldn't say LS for sure as the steroids would be masking all other conditions . She's referred me for urgent biopsy under general so she can do smear too ( last doc who tried couldn't do it ) should I be worried or is this quite normal.

View 5 RepliesGeneral Anaesthesia Risks For Marijuana / Cannabis Smoker?
Due to some urine flow problems that I have had for the past few years, my urologist has decided that I should have a rigid cystoscopy to explore/fix my bladder for the problem. It is most likely that I have a stricture in my urethra that is preventing the flow.
Because a rigid cystoscopy can be fairly painful, I will be under under general anaesthetic throughout the whole procedure. The main thing I am worried about is the anaesthesia. I smoke marijuana fairly regularly (2-3 shared-joints a day) and that is all I do. I don't take any other form of drugs. I only smoke tobacco in joints. I don't smoke cigarettes.
My only concern is that this might affect the general anaesthesia during the cystoscopy.
The procedure won't be happening till sometime around April so I will be able to cut down/stop smoking all together if needs be but I intend NOT to smoke at all up to 2 weeks before the cystoscopy.
How long can I smoke marijuana up until the procedure? What are the potential risks of smoking marijuana before operations?
Also, what can I expect from the rigid cystoscopy procedure? This is the first hospital procedure I have ever had, so understandably I am a little anxious about it all.

View 2 RepliesKnee :: ACL Ligament Tear In My Left Knee Numb
I have an ACL ligament tear in my left knee. This happened about five years ago. I was on waiting list & got a call to do surgery, but then I got pregnant, so I had to go back on waiting list. It must be a long list because I am still waiting. They have looked at it again because of the soreness around the knee when I walk. My doctor told me I have mild arthritis in my left knee now, but can still go through surgery.
This past week, I was in a situation where I didn't do much walking, laid around for most of day. I didn't have a pillow to use for my knee to be propped up, so I just used my right leg or had my left leg on its side when I laid down on my left side. I don't feeling anything around my knee now. It is numb! Would anyone know what is wrong? I tried to apply ice to it, but I can't feel it. I still can walk ok, though. Thanks!
Knee :: 5 Days Post Op For Partial Knee Replacement
It's day 5 I'm home and in a fair bit of discomfort! Main problem is at night and knowing what sleeping position to get into? I want to lie on my side but not sure this is ok ( about the only question I didn't ask physiotherapist ) also finding I'm very tearful today and extremely tired is this normal?
View 23 RepliesKnee :: Physical Therapy After Partial Knee Replacement
I am 42 yrs old and had a Partial Knee Replacement done on Jan 6th...outpatient...went to first PT the next morning. Wasn't too bad...2nd was a little rougher and I was in more pain. 3rd visit had a different therapist and she pushed me beyond what I thought I was ready for. She basically forced bended my knee and forced straighten it..said it's to keep scar tissues from interfering with recovery...this was extremely painful. I am curious to if this is normal protocol on your 3rd visit of PT..which was 7 days post op...I was in soo much pain I could not go to my next PT. Plus I have bruising on my ankle from her force bending with her body weight...I figured I would go back on Monday when my normal Therapist will be there....I have made progress with bending and straightening and don't think I should be rushed like that...I am still in alot of pain but am able to walk around house without crutches. I have been icing and elevating along with doing my homework PT.
