Scoliosis And Kyphosis :: Feeling Uneven Shoulders
I have felt uneven for years. My mom has been diagnosed with scoliosis, and my doctors have checked me at every yearly appointment since I was 12. I feel uneven (like if you were to draw a line down the middle it wouldn't be equal), one shoulder (right) is higher than the other, I have neck/shoulder pain, and I feel like my right side of my ribs press are farther away from the midline, like my left side is pushing them over. I feel The only thing is that I am overweight. So I am wondering if it possible for the doctors to have missed it. I am 19 and I am afraid I am going to continue on without answers or being taken seriously. My parents and friends don't believe me. Is it possible I can feel scoliosis from the inside (the uneven feeling I have)?
View 2 RepliesHip Replacement :: Uneven Leg Length On 2nd THR
I'm wondering if some of you have experience with this. I had my second hip done on Wed. Jan 20, about 7 weeks after the first one. When I walked following surgery, it felt like my right foot was going into a hole with each step-- That there was a significant difference in leg length. Everything else went fine although my dressing is larger than the first time. Surgeon wasn't at all defensive when I saw him the next morning. He listened to my concerns, said he thought legs were good and told me to give it 6 weeks for swelling to go down and that it usually resolves.(No mention of why there was so much more swelling this time.) I came home Thursday afternoon and am keeping ice on it and doing exercises. It maybe has changed a little bit but whole hip feels so lumpy and bumpy and it's as if I can feel the new joint inside which I never did before.
I like and trust my Dr. and intellectually I knew it might be different this go round but it is disconcerting nonetheless and makes me fearful and blue. I have no stomach for additional surgery. So, I know it's premature but I am seeking reassurance if anyone has lived with this.
Bruising, Swelling And Pain After Walking
So for nearly two years now I have had a growing pain over the ridge of my left foot, I'm almost positive that it is my extensor hallucis longus. The pain is not present when resting, unless I stretch my big toe up towards me, and is much worse if I apply a measure of force against it. Once I start to walk the pain gradually worsens until I cannot put pressure on that particular side of my foot due to it not being able to hold my weight without severe discomfort. The pain emerges the moment I start walking and within an hour maximum it will be at its peak. Once I have stopped walking, the ridge of my foot will be extremely swollen, about as large as a golf ball, dark red and bruised.
I have tried to stay off it for a time, at one point using crutches for a week, applying a bandage, stretching, loosening my laces, wearing different styles of shoes (converse high-tops are my usual preference, but tried trainers, boots and dress shoes too), applying ice to the affected area and also taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine, all to no avail. As I said, it's been just a few months shy of two years and is gradually getting worse both in pain and swelling/bruising.
Also just a small overview of my physical stature as I assume it could be of some use
5"11
60-65kg
23 years of age
Shoe size 11-12 (depending on the style of shoe)
Physical fitness is good.
Could anyone recommend any other course of action before I finally give in and consult my GP, and also confirm my suspicion of tendonitis, or speculate on other conditions it may or may not be?
Hip Replacement :: How Much Walking?
I have been reading your posts on your walking progress and am amazed at how much some of you are able to do. I am almost 5 weeks post op and walk every day on my crutches, but it is just up and down the road a few times going a bit further every day. Compared to some of you I don't think I am nearly doing enough walking, my fitness level was bad before the operation due to not being able to weight bear and walk so that may be why my progress seems slower.
I was given the physio exercises, which I do every day, but was given no indication of how far I should be walking or if I should go on when I get pain. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this.
Hip Replacement :: Opposite Hip Pain After Walking
I had my surgery a year ago and just within the last few weeks my unoperated hip has been causing me a lot of pain. I've been walking 3 miles 3 times a week and with my limp it becomes painful to the point that I have to stop and sit down before I can continue. My hip is almost bone on bone and it hasn't bothered me too much but since the surgery it has been causing me pain. My doc said to continue walking because it won't deteriorate the hip any faster.
My operated hip is fabulous.
Hip Replacement :: Pain From Sitting To Standing And Walking
I'm 27, I got ejected out of a car at 17. I broke my hip and shattered my pelvis. My first surgery was to reconstruct my pelvis than a year later I had a total hip replacement. I hurt every single day, the worst pain is from sitting to standing and walking that initial step on my bad hip is excruciating. I don't take pain meds anymore if anyone has any tip for pain relief.

I've had a lot of very useful info from this forum since I joined not so long ago - thank you all very much! I have a couple of questions:
1) Post LTHR op to exercise must I walk outside, or can I walk just inside the house (difficult terrains outside the house)? Has anyone in this situation just walked inside the house and got better?
2) Will I need to move the bed downstairs, or will I be able
to use the stairs? Does the PT practice stairs while still in hospital?
Hip Replacement :: Intermittent Clunky Sensation On Walking?
Is it just me or does anyone else experience an intermittent clunky sensation from their new hip one walking? I'm 5 weeks in with a ceramic on ceramic. No other problems and if this how it's going to be I can live with it. I have read that some people with ceramic hips experience clicking. . Just wondered if I describe clicking as clunking!
View 27 RepliesPartial Knee Replacement - Pain upon Walking After Sitting For 15-20 Minutes
partial knee replacement was done in October. I did all exercises and everything was fine in November - January. Toward the end of February I began experiencing pain upon walking after sitting for 15-20 minutes. I'm limping and it is painful for about 30 steps. It is getting worse. What could this be? My doc is out of town until April.
View 3 RepliesGeneral :: Lower Right Abdominal Swelling, Pain When Walking, Random Sharp Pain
Me: 20 y/o female, 5ft5, 135lbs. (I have been losing some weight so I don't think I am pregnant.)
A week or two ago I was having this weird feeling, like tugging, in my belly button it was accompanied by some sharp pains on and off. A few days ago i noticed that the right side of my tummy, starting in the lower right quarter of my belly button and going about two - three inches down and about the same to the right, maybe a bit further, was swollen. It isn't super noticeable unless you look right in my belly button because I have some tummy fat, but the right is absolutely swollen. It is not a lump, but honestly just feels like fatty tissue or water retention. It isn't very tender, sometimes it feels like there is a bruise but there isn't, there is a spot that seems more tender. I have had this sharp tearing pain but it is very random and hasn't been bed enough for an ER visit. When I walk it hurts but it is very dull.
I have a doctors apt on monday but I am worried that this could be something bad.
I am not sure if this is related but it seems like it is (TMI sort of period stuff below just a heads up...)
I usually have normal/ heavy periods that last about 5-6 days. This time it started off very light, the next day i had about 12 hours of soaking a regular tampon in like an hour and a half (this is really unusual) and then it tapered off that night. The bleeding only lasted 2-3 days and the last bit was this strange copper color as opposed to bright red or brown. This is pretty strange for me.
Costochondritis :: Tietze - Lower Rib Cage Swelling - Normal?
I was recently diagnosed with tietze about a week ago and have been suffering for a week. My lower rib cage under my breast on my left side is completely swollen, is this normal?
The pain radiates in the center of my chest and the top of my chest is hot and swollen on both the left and right hand side of my body....
Fatty Liver :: Feeling Of Swelling, Bloating And Pain In The Upper Right Abdomen
Last week I went to the hospital because my stools were black. They tested for blood but found none. Blood tests showed slightly elevated liver enzymes so they did an US and diagnosed me with fatty liver. That evening I began to notice swelling/faint pain in my upper right abdomen. I thought it was because of all the pressure from the US. It's been a week and it seems it's only gotten worse. Pain/swelling feeling extends from below the rib cage, don't my right side and i also get intermittent pain in my right lower back.
Once I got the diagnosis I changed my diet and stopped drinking. I'll be honest I used to eat horribly. Fast food, frozen meals, high fat, sodium and sugar. I became almost addicted to minute maid lemonade and drank 1-2 liters a day. All that HFCS is what I think mostly contributed to the fatty liver. I don't drink all that often (although when I did it was usually heavy). 2 years ago I used to drink a lot (though still only on the weekends) but up until my diagnosis it would be maybe few times a month tops.
I'm beginning to worry that they misdiagnosed fatty liver and it's something more sinister like cirrhosis. Other symptoms include fatigue, sometimes when I breathe I can take a full breath but it's like I'm not getting enough oxygen. It's hard to describe, almost as if the swelling in my abdomen is crowding my lungs. Lastly, my stools are now very light brown and loose (I honestly can't remember the last time I had a normal BM). I have a follow up with a GI Dr but that's not for 3 weeks. All of this has triggered some severe health anxiety that I once had as a child after an oral surgery.
Does anyone with fatty liver experience this feeling of swelling, abdominal bloating and pain in the upper right abdomen, right side and lower right back?

View 13 RepliesLegg Calve Perthes' Disease :: Is The Knee Swelling Normal?
My 8 year old son was diagnosed with Perthes last July and we were advised by his doctor to minimise weight bearing so we did the usual things - crutches, Wheelchair and such!
The perthes was caught at the very first stage and the diagnosis at his last visit was good and that my son should only use one crutch now!
However he is in alot more pain during the day and at night he wakes up in pain.
I have been refereed to Stanmore now but my question is is the pain due to the weight bearing and should all his pain be in his knee as his knee is swollen still from first diagnosis.
Is the knee swelling normal!
And do perthes sufferers usually have problems with wetting?
Partial Knee Replacement - Still Discomfort And Swelling After 3 Months
There seems to be a lot of posts for total knee replacements but haven't seen many for a partial. Has anyone had a partial knee done and how are you getting on. Three months after mine was done for a second time I still experience some discomfort and swelling bordering on pain, wondering if this is normal after this amount of time.

Almost time for my ultrasound and as much as I am looking forward to it I can't help but be worried about my body as my symptoms get worse. Aside from losing a LOT of weight, the nausea, breathlessness, and gassy feeling I get everyday all day is really worrying me. Is it normal for gallbladder sufferers to be this sick each and everyday? The only reprieve I get is when I go to sleep but the minute I wake up the symptoms above plus a dull ache on my right abdomen hits me with the full force of a gale wind. Please help. Has this happened to anybody else?

View 4 RepliesKidney Stones :: Feeling Continuously Sick - Normal?
I was told on September 1st of this year I have a kidney stone. (Started at 6.4mm and went up to 7mm) since being diagnosed, I've suffered regularly with cramping sensations in my lower abdomen and have been feeling sick almost daily, to the point where I easily throw up and usually can't eat much. I've lost around 2st in the last 3 months because of it. I had lithotripsy yesterday to break it down and when I woke up this morning, I was constantly feeling sick from the time my eyes opened until I was loaded up with morphine, the pain was absurd as well. I couldn't sit but when I stood up, I wanted to throw up, which happened a lot today on an empty stomach. I ended up in emergency and was sent home a few hours later with oxycodene. The first two times I went to emerg after being diagnosed was owing to a painful cramping sensation in my lower abdomen and ongoing sickness. I was told twice 'it could be a bladder infection' and was given anti biotics both times. Turns out I didn't have an infection but they never look any further and just blame my symptoms on the stone. Both times my stone was in the exact same place (very top in my kidney), my stone was diagnosed as non obstructive. Since September I've been passing blood almost daily, am mostly sick and experience cramping feelings weekly if not daily. I've been to the doctors and emerg so many times and they just said it was the stone without any investigation.. Has anyone else experienced any of this? If my symptoms persist after the stone fragments have passed, they said they will investigate further.
View 3 RepliesHip Replacement :: Day 20 - Zero Energy - Normal?
I can't complain because everything is getting easier, and I am definitely much more comfortable than I was. My biggest problem is a complete absence of energy. I feel so deeply tired and fatigued. I had my first nights sleep last night, so why am I still not feeling like moving or doing anything? I want to play with my children, get the house organised and do productive tasks but just don't have it in me.... Is this your experience? Or should I be forcing it?
