Herpes :: Asymptomatic Shedding (No Symptoms) - Oral Sex?
I'm just wondering what the chances are of getting genital herpes through oral sex when your partner does not have any visible outbreaks? I'm just curious, my boyfriend and I have never had cold sores, and we've only ever been sexually active with each other. It would be worrying if one of us suddenly got genital herpes in a few years time randomly, although it hasn't happened yet in the 4 years we've been together.

I've been seeing this sweet girl for a month and a half now.
I know her background pretty well, as she's a friend of a friend.
She's a shy, quiet and reserved person with no history of STDs, and has only had one sexual partner before me.
Five days ago, we kissed and had protected sex using a condom.
Last night after dinner, I noticed a tingling/slightly burning sensation on a small part of my upper lip.
It's a sensation similar to when you have really dry and chapped lips, and the skin starts to recover, except perhaps a little more intense.
I'm really paranoid about having contracted HSV-1 orally, even though I have none of the other symptoms usually associated with an outbreak.
Because I'm a germaphobe, I live my life more carefully than most others; never really come into physical, skin-on-skin contact with other people (minus handshakes and hugs), and always pay close attention to what I do whenever my skin is damaged a little from being dry or cut.
Neither she (19 years old) nor I (23) have ever had an outbreak of cold sores, but I'm aware that you can carry the virus around all your life without ever knowing - that goes for the both of us.
Both her and my dad do get occasional cold sore outbreaks.
I guess what I'm after here more than anything, is a rough estimate on how likely I am to contract HSV-1 from her, with all the above details taken into account.
As a worst-case scenario, let's assume that she is carrying the virus, but is completely asymptomatic.
What are the odds of becoming infected from asymptomatic shedding?
In other words, what sort of transmission rates am I looking at for asymptomatic shedding?
If what I'm feeling on my lip is the beginning of a cold sore, at what point in time should I be able to SEE something on the lips at the spot? Because I've been up close with a magnifying glass and a flashlight and the area looks perfectly normal.
A related, but I guess more of a bonus question:
I called my doctor earlier this week, in an attempt to set up an STD screening as my new relationship becomes increasingly intimate - I'm confident that I'm clean, but it would be nice to have that confirmed.
I asked for an STD test and would like testing for HSV-1 and HSV-2 included as well, to which she replied, puzzled, why on earth I'd want that?
I explained my situation and that I'd like to know my herpes status, so I'd at least know where I stand in relation to my new girl.
She then said that she saw no reason to test for that at all, especially since I've never had an outbreak.
To be honest, this reaction from a medical professional kinda shocked me.
If a patient requests a specific test for a lifelong, incurable disease, why would a doctor stall like that?
At the very least, shouldn't she be interested in trying to prevent the further spread of the virus, by allowing me to know if I already have it - or if I don't have it, so that I'll be a bit careful about what I do?
Any input except "oh get over yourself, cold sores are so common, everyone has them!"
I'll take any fighting chance I can get, if it means I get to live out the rest of my life without having to constantly worry about infecting others and having blisters on my face.
Herpes :: Asymptomatic Virus Shedding For Both Partners (no Symptoms)
My partner of 2yrs recently informed me that he tested positive for herpes and I subsequently did have a positive test. We both have no symptoms as this was only confirmed by blood test with mine having the higher positive value 1.30. We attended different doctors and he is currently taking valtrex as suppressive therapy since his is mild and my doctor recommended that I only take valtrex if I have an outbreak. I have been looking at alternative supplements as suppressive therapy could anyone share their experiences on the success of any alternative product. Personally I think valtrex is a bit expensive for daily suppressive therapy but I want to ensure that the infection is controlled or suppresses to avoid an outbreak of possible

I have read that episodic therapy does not have any real impact on asymptomatic shedding, which suggests there must be a number of days/weeks of continuous treatment (as in the case of suppressive therapy) before this is effectively reduced. Anyone know how long that period is?

I was tested positive for HSV2.
I've done the HSV 2 type 2 specific Elisa Euroimmun igg test
1st result is 43.5RU/ml July 28th 2015
2nd result is 23.9RU/ml Nov 4th 2015
3rd result is 54.9RU/ml Jan 29th 2016
Less than 16 RU/ml--Negative
16 and less than 22 RU/ml--Borderline
More than 22 RU/ml--Positive
I never have any visible symptoms, I understand that this is very common.
I would like to ask if I have itchy or tingling feeling at my scrotum or the base area of penis shaft. Is it every time I have this feeling it is Asymptomatic Virus Shedding?
Also I would like to know the best way to prevent passing this HSV2 to my gf if we would like to have sex.
I know wearing protection is a must, is there any ways that can further reduce the chance of passing it to her?
(She knows I am a positive, and she is not a positive.)

Herpes :: Asymptomatic Virus Shedding - Can I Catch Partners Hsv Strand Too?
I believe I am asymptomatic. I have never seen and outbreak, but I'm unsure if I have them inside. My gyno looked once and said she saw no sign of outbreak or scarring.
I dated a guy who has had hsv2 since birth and he performed oral on me. And bear with me here, but I may have just answered half of my question. I still see no sign of outbreak, but after we made out, and the a few days later on the back of my tongue near my throat I think I had an outbreak.
I've had a few since, for the most part I think; unlike the first outbreak, I see just one at a time. There may be one other time I've had a few at once. I've never thought to get it cultured, but I will next time I see them.
So my question is, could he have infected me with his strand orally?
Secondly, if do actually have them on the inside, would they hurt? I can't find any information about that online. It mostly just pulls up basic facts about herpes. I've had an odor and I can't seem to what it is. Maybe weeping sores? Doctor gave a visual exam, no testing, and he said I checked out for bv. He seemed bothered so I didn't push for cultures. I keep coming back with uti tests positive for leucocytes (sp?) and there was a culture done on that, but they said it was just probably on my skin or something. I think it didn't grow or something. I digress, sometimes the odor smells like amonia, other times it is yeasty. Not to be weird or anything, but I used to have kind of a nice odor, and since shorty after the herpes it changed.
I should also mention I haven't had periods since 2013. I know it's unrelated to herpes, but do you think since I don't have that to clean me out, that may be the cause of my odor issues?
And instead of making a third post, what's the deal with herpes and tanning beds?
Herpes Or Folliculitis? Bumps Around My Anus Area
I discovered these irritating bumps around my anus area that soon developed into tender ulcers.. so I went to the doctor to have them examined and she told me she couldn't really tell if it was herpes being the fact the bumps were scattered and they are each at the base of a hair follicle... so she swabbed them and sent them off for a lab test and I'm currently waiting for my results by the end of this week... I've never experienced anything like this before and the only symptoms I have is itching and I do believe I can feel my lymph nodes in my groin are swollen... has anyone else ever experienced anything like this and what does it sound like to you?
View 9 RepliesHerpes :: Diagnosed HPV 1 - Why Genital Area Symptoms When Negative HPV 2
So back in October, I had a horrific and painful outbreak of herpes, both near my genital area and my mouth area. I was diagnosed with HPV-1, but not HPV-2 (swab test). I recently got into a relationship and I've told my boyfriend what I had and we had to be careful. Just recently, I finished school and from the stress, I was developing mouth sores, and now all of a sudden, I noticed one bump on the outer area of my vagina (I don't know the actual terminology, but it's on the "hairy" part) that popped up yesterday, thinking it was an ingrown hair because I shaved, but now it's looking more like a blister than anything. It hasn't spread yet and I'm hoping it doesn't. My discharge is a bit more creamy than usual, but there's no burning while urinating or pain near the vagina. It seems normal, just not the bump. The mouth ulcers are nearly gone and I haven't been sick and I don't start my period for another 2 weeks. Last time him and I had sex was this past Sunday and we used protection. My question is, if I'm diagnosed with HPV-1, why am I developing herpes in the genitalia region? Isn't it only supposed to be on the mouth?
View 3 RepliesIrritated Cyst Or Herpes? Bumps On Pubic Area
My vagina has been itching for several months now, anywhere from the pubic area to the vaginal opening. I noticed a few bumps on the inside of my lip, right where the bartholin's cyst can be upseated. They were itchy so I took a warm bath with some epsom salt and went to bed. I woke up to pain there and when I looked I saw one of the bumps had popped open and was now very sore to the touch and itches like crazy! None of my previous itching had caused a sore. I'm beginning to panic because I started looking online and of course herpes is the first thing I found. It doesn't seem like herpes based on what I have seen, I have had these little bumps before and they have never ruptured or caused any pain. I'm wondering if it is herpes or if maybe it could be an irritated cyst?
View 6 RepliesHair Loss / Shedding For 2 Years
For almost 2 years ago now I have been experiencing scalp pain and hair loss and was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas as to what could be causing it. (Since the doctors haven't been able to tell me much.) I was on lamictal for exactly one year and wellbutrin for about 2 months (March 2012-March 2013) but stopped taking both meds due to finding out I was pregnant. I also had a minor concussion and 8 stitches to my forehead right along the hairline from a bad accident I was in (November 2012). Those are the only two "serious" things that happened to me right before I started losing my hair.
I have always had long, thick hair to the middle of my back. Never had dandruff, or any scalp problems and ESPECIALLY never had hair loss. I cleaned out my hair brush maybe once a year, that's how little hair I lost. Then all of a sudden around march of 2013 I started noticing small amounts of hair coming out in the shower.. I had been getting highlights that year so figured I just needed to stop getting them because it was too harsh and damaged some hair. But then by the end of April (when I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant) I was noticing more and more hair in the shower, stuck to my clothes, on the bathroom floor etc. And it has only gotten worse to this day. I lost hair ALL throughout my pregnancy and in the last six months have developed what I think is seborrhoeic dermatitis. (Dry, tight, itchy scalp with dandruff). I use organic sulfate & chemical free products, eat relatively healthy and am always keeping active with my 10 month old. Yet the hair still falls. I went to the doc and my thyroid levels came back high, but then exactly a month later was retested and my levels came back normal? Only other health problem I have ever knew myself to have is bipolar depression, which I'm not on meds for because I don't want anything else effecting my body and making the hair loss worse. I have terrible allergies and a numb spot on my scalp from where my head trauma and stitched were, but the hair loss is all throughout my head, not in that specific area. I have also suspected celiac disease but my blood levels showed up negative for that too when I was tested in 2011. So does anyone have any suggestions on what they think my problem is? Also I suffer from terrible migraine headaches, fatigue, easy bruising, head fog, racing thoughts, lack of ability to focus, irritability.
Hair Loss / Shedding Due To Depression
A few weeks ago I suffered from a bout of depression. During that time, I had trouble sleeping, lack of appetite and would cry randomly. It only lasted about a week max, but my hair immediately started shedding almost at the beginning of it. I'm now back to feeling like my happy self but my hair is continuing to shed excessively. There's no bald spots or patches, just all over shedding. At least 10 or more hairs come out after I brush it. I'm taking multivitamins everyday and keeping healthy now, I'm just wondering when it's going to stop because it is really annoying me. I can't wear my hair down. I'm also 19, female. Thanks

After exhausting all other possibilities I am now wondering if my 15 month bout with hair shedding is simply sudden onset Perimenopause?
I haven't had any other symptoms at 48 besides fibroids which I plan on removing.
Anyone experience sudden onset of prolonged hair shedding where your hair is popping out all day long and your hair volume drastically diminished?
I had a bout with anemia but my ferritin has been over 90 for 8 months and my hair shedding has not changed at all. I do have regrowth but it cannot keep up with the rate of shedding.
I lose about 250 on wash days (2x per week) and about 100 - 130 on now wash days. I know they "say" that is normal but it was never normal for me.
I would guess I lost 25 a day previously and maybe 70 on wash days.
I would love to hear about your perimenopausal experiences with hair loss and other.

Negative Herpes But Random Blisters On Vagina But Tested Negative For Herpes?
Hello! I was recently back in February diagnosed with hpv. I had full blood work done and I have no other diseases or infections. I've also not had sex since before the testing. I recently noticed I have two painful blisters, one on the inside of my labia and the other on the other lip. I shave and I've had ingrown hairs but these definitely don't feel the same. They are super uncomfortable. I'm unable to go to the doctor until The end of the week and wanted to see if anyone knew what they might be? And any temporary ideas for pain relief? Over the counters pain killers do nothing. Also, I have extremely bad allergies to pollen and with the pollen, came these blisters, so I am not sure if they are related. I've added pictures below. Thanks for the help.
