I have had extremely bad photophobia for the last 3 yrs (sunglasses in house etc), which started after having my eyes dilated 4 times. I don't have any eye disease. However 3 days ago I bought a herb (which i read about on the internet), called qi ju di huang wan. They are tiny little black pills and you take 30 a day. And I am actually able to walk around outside now without my sunglasses even in the sun!!!! (still best to wear em though).
View 7 RepliesCorneal Ulcer :: Blurry Vision And Sensitivity To Light
Hi everyone, just after some advice.. My left eye started watering really bad last Wednesday, by the Friday the white of my eye was blood red, I arranged a visit to the GP who gave me chloramphenicol eye drops and if it got any worse to take myself to our local eye hospital. By the Sunday my eye was so painful, watering, bright red and light sensitive. I ended up visiting the eye hospital to be advised that I had an ulcer on my cornea. This us down to a viral infection, I was given antiviral eye ointment to put in 5 times a day for 10 days. The doc said due to my job I would probably need 2-3 days off.
I have been off 3 days now and although the pain and redness has calmed down, my eye is very sensitive to light and my sight is still blurry.
has anyone else suffered this please and how long did it take to recover and the eye to feel normal?
Mini Migraines :: Without Aura, Body And Ear Pains With Light Sensitivity
I've had migraines a good chunk of my life and I haven't had one in roughly 9 months but I have been experiencing almost like mini migraines? in that I experience pain very similar to a migraine but without the aura or having to lie down or take it seriously. I guess these could be tension headaches, but I'm not sure? I've also been experience other symptoms, including: ear pain, sensitivity to light/sound, ringing in the ears, and various pains all over my body. these symptoms can happen with a migraine but lately they've been constant and if not, happening often enough that I'm noticing. I've had a brain scan and nothing. I don't think it's ever been like this before and I'm curious as to what it could be? As in, a starting point. I do have migraine medication but all it does is put me to sleep, it doesn't help with the pain. Not sure if that matters.
View 1 RepliesNervous System :: Head Pressure, Eye Floaters, Light Sensitivity
I have an undiagnosed condition which started three years ago, in December 2009. My family doctor doesn't take me seriously, so I am switching to another doctor soon. I'm male, 26 years old, non-smoker & non-drinker. Blood pressure on average 130/80, pulse rate around 70. I am 6 foot 1 tall, and weigh around 214 pounds (97 kg).
My symptoms:-
- Head pressure (especially around the temples)
- Feeling my heartbeat pounding in my head (i don't hear it, but i definitely feel it)
- Massive eye floaters in both eyes (always present)
- Light sensitivity (always present)
- Slight blurry vision from time to time (depending on the severity of the "head pressure")
- Eye pain (also depending on the severity of the "head pressure")
What makes it worse:-
- When I eat something very salty
- When I am very nervous, or very angry
What makes it better:-
- When I press on my temples
- When I tie a piece of cloth around my head
- Diazepam 5mg
Worth mentioning:-
- No fatigue (i have a lot of strength & energy)
- No appetite loss
- No sleep problems
A detailed history of my condition:My problem began in December 2009 as just a strange feeling in my head. I started to literally feel my pulse pounding inside my head. This was accompanied by a feeling of pressure in the head, especially around the temples and around the eyes. It felt like extremely high blood pressure, but only in the head. I ignored all of this, thinking it's something that will go away quickly, but I was wrong.
After a couple of months, in the spring of 2010, the head pressure decreased somewhat, but then I began to have eye problems. There was a dull tension-type pain, first in my right eye, then in my left eye. This type of eye pain is very difficult to describe: A strong tension/pressure type of pain, which feels exactly like the pressure in the entire head. This lasted for several days, and then comes the worst part: massive eye floaters in both eyes, accompanied with light sensitivity. The eye pain went away, but the floaters & light sensitivity remained, as well as the head pressure. The floaters & light sensitivity are always present, 24/7, so it's definitely not a migraine.
The problem "stabilized" in the summer of 2010, and remained very stable or "tolerable" I should say. Head pressure reduced by more than 50%, no eye pain, and only 5 or 6 floaters. Then in October 2012, for unexplained reasons, the whole thing came back with a punch. The pulse pounding in the head, the head pressure, and the eye pain all increased about threefold. Then a few days later, new eye floaters came along (more than 10 new floaters!). Now the whole thing is somewhat stable, but definitely not as good as it was before.
Why was it "ok" for more than two years, and then came back like this? The only thing I can think of is bodybuilding. In October 2012 I began to lift weights, mostly benchpress, and about a week after that, the problems began to intensify. This is the only thing I can think of that might have played a role.
Here are the exams I have had done in the past few months:-
- Extensive blood work, including TSH test (thyroid function): all clear, except for somewhat high cholesterol (255)
- Abdominal ultrasound: completely normal
- Ophthalmoscopy with dilated pupils: no retinal tears, no holes, no damaged blood vessels
- VEP (Visual Evoked Potential) test: completely normal
- Carotid doppler ultrasound: completely normal (I really insisted on the carotid doppler ultrasound, because of the feeling of high blood pressure in the head.)
I didn't have health insurance for a long time, which is why I started to see doctors only a few months ago. Now, I have learned to control this condition by avoiding salty foods, avoiding stress, and avoiding weightlifting. By "controlling" the condition I mean preventing it from getting worse. But nonetheless I want to know, and absolutely have to know, what is causing this problem, and how to treat it.My family doctor does not want to do an MRI or a CT scan. He thinks this is all stress related without any physiological causes whatsoever, which I think is completely absurd, and this is the reason why I'm switching to another doctor very soon. In any case, my questions are as follows:
1.) Is it possible that these symptoms could be caused by a deformity of the neck and/or the spine? I have had a really terrible posture since I was a little kid, but my family doctor (as well as my neurologist) dismisses this idea, saying there's no chance it could cause these problems.
2.) Is it worth doing a contrast-enhanced thyroid ultrasound?
3.) Should I do an electrocardiogram & treadmill stress test?
4.) What medical exams would you recommend me? MRI? CT? If so, exactly what kind of MRI? Cervical? Head only? Whole body? I really don't know much about this subject.
5.) Is it possible for the eyes to really be healthy, but for a person still to experience floaters & light sensitivity, for example because of something neurological?
If there is anything at all you could say about this topic, I would really appreciate it. To this day I am not able to find on the internet one disease that has all of these symptoms. The whole thing really feels as if the blood pressure in my head is extremely high, but obviously that's not it. I would very much like to know if you were in my shoes, what exams you would like to have done.
Pituitary :: Adrenal Crisis - Brain Fog, Light Sensitivity, Blurred Vision, Weakness
Hi, I’m hoping some people can hopefully give me some advice please regarding treatment. My history: I’m 30, diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency via an insulin tolerance test. I have borderline low hypothyroidism, low prolactin. No cysts. I am 40kg, 5ft tall so I am very petite.
I currently take hydrocortisone after each meal 8am-4 mg, 12m-4mg, 3.30pm-4mg, 8pm- 3 mg. I have to take my medication following food to reduce the intensity of the spike. I also cannot tolerate more than 5mg at one time without getting awful side effects of anxiety and panic when the tablet peaks in my blood at 30 minutes. Each doe I take only lasts around 2.5-3 hours. If I am to take 10mg at once I feel ‘high’ and ‘rushy’ and anxious when it kicks in then after 3 hours its starts to drop and I feel low cortisol again.
I feel like I am swinging all day every day. I am still so fatigued, have very bad dizziness and brain fog, light sensitivity, blurred vision, weakness, leg and arm cramps, reactive hypoglycemia and achy.
4 weeks ago I ended up having an adrenal crises, yes it was horrendous and scary but I got through it and in a way it was a blessing because it has been a BIG wake up call that I need to stop being scared of trying new medication in fear of getting sicker and realised I have got to try and get myself well.
I have been so unwell since I was 21 I am now 30. ….i have lost so much of my life and I am sacred I am never going to get better or managed.
My consultant prescribes medrol a while ago and I have been too scared to start to but after my crises I started it. I am now taking 1mg Medrol in the morning and then 3 more doses of hydrocortisone at 4mg, 4mg and 2.5mg…
When I first started the Medrol I could feel it working but now its like I can not feel it and by 4 hours later I am feeling hypoglycaemic, weak nauseas etc… I am feeling so unwell after I eat a meal, like all my bodies energy is wiped out from digesting my food and im now lying in bed weak, giddy and lots of pain cramps in my arms and legs…
I have low blood pressure and my consultants suggested
fludrocortisone. I just don’t know what to do anymore. My consultants saying I shouldn’t feel so unwell and im just so lost.
Has anyone been on Medrol and can give advice on this. Im very petite, 5ft and 40 kg…I just feel so up and down and struggling with it all and also feel my symptoms get worse or better during certain times of the month..
i also cannot tolerate many carbohydrates because my blood glucose pikes very high at 1 1/2 hours post eating and drops every low by 21/2-3 hours.
I’ve now had to set up a backup carer to help when am unwell because i am on my own with 2 young children. I am getting help with them now and also trying to get support for taking them to school…im slowly getting there
I have also done a month of blood tests looking at progesterone and estrogen and have found a pattern in some of my symptoms.. I most definitely feel my worst when I am coming off my period, stopping bleeding where I start to feel cold and foggy and nauseous I then when ovulating feel at my worst and the 2 days when my estrogen was highest I had severe anxiety, tremor, agoraphobia, intense drowsiness after eating and these symptoms always disappear once I ovulate and start seeing progesterone mucous . Apart from these symptoms which come on with my cycle I suffer with all my other symptoms throughout the whole month with increase and decrease throughout my cycle.
I have included a lot of tests below and anyone who feels they can help would be so much appreciated. Thank you for your time

Here I am again like a broken record but just don't know what to do. I woke up today nervous and jumpy. I was so nervous that I made my heart race and called the paramedics. I felt fine once they got to me which in turn made me feel like a crazy person yet again. I have called the paramedics or ran to the ER so many times that I'm scared they won't come when I really need them. I just can't help it. When these crazy feelings come on the anxiety just overwhelms me. The fluttering in my chest, the internal tremors, weird head feelings, the flu feelings, the fluctuating body temperatures is just all overwhelming. Today I just can't seem to shake this nervous and jittery feeling. I ended up turning around to come back home on my way to work. I just didn't want my coworkers to see me acting like a crazy lady today.

Over the past year and a half, I have been struggling with headaches every other day. I also have been having a racing heart, but not as often. Once a month or so. I've been to a PT, massage therapist, a headache specialist, and a chiropractor. My chiropractor thinks it is from stress, but when I am visibly stressed - I don't get a headache. I was thinking it was from something that I am eating, but I cannot find a common pattern in my food diaries. Maybe gluten or dairy? or is it really stress??
I did notice today that I had a monster migraine when I got to work. I was anticipating a very stressful day at work (it was fine though) and after I got home and had dinner - my headache was gone.
Cannabis Addiction :: My Heart Starts Racing
I smoked some cannabis about 5 days ago and that night my heart starting racing, burning a little. It was doing it for a while so I went to sleep, and when I woke up my chest hurt it wasn't pain that bothered me, I could live with the pain because it wasn't bad. But I was worried, and now it still hurts on the left side, and every now and then I get a little pain in my head. None of this is pain that really bothers me, I'm just worried what should I do?
I've bin told by people that smoke it too that it will go soon, I just want to make sure.
Anemia Due To Heavy Periods - Tired And Racing Heart
I recently had 2 iron infusions. My iron level was previously a 6 and my B12 is super low as well. I was always tired, had a racing heart, craved popsicles and bruised super easily. The main cause is that I have extremely heavy periods.
My concern is that it has been 7 weeks since my last infusion and I am bruising more than ever. ..I brush by something and get a big bruise. I'm embarrassed to wear shorts...I'm not as tired as before and no more heart palpitations. I had an appt for a follow up last week and they did more blood work to recheck my iron and B12 levels. I should have the results monday. BUT my concern is all of these bruises...what could be going on? I've been tested for some genetic iron disorder and that was negative as well as the other disorder (I forget the name---it mainly affects those of Mediterranean descent ).
Neurological Disorders :: Dizzy/lightheaded Racing Heart
I have been experiencing dizziness and lightheaded feelings every day and night for the past couple of weeks. I already had issues before (for almost four years) but never as bad as recently. On top of that, my face gets flushed easily but I also get cold spontaneously (almost as if I have a fever but whenever I'm at the doc my temperature is ok). My blood pressure used to always be within the 115/65 range but recently it's been around 135/80 resting and can go up to 150/85 just from talking a walk. After walks I usually feel more dizzy, my heart races with any light physical activity (I used to be pretty physically active when I was healthier). To add to the symptoms, I also get visual disturbances at times, as if my eyes can't focus, and I get dizzy when looking down or following faster moving objects (example- I tried to play video games and couldn't continue after 10min). My sleep has been interrupted, every night I wake up dizzy and feeling uneasy, my heart rate always jumps from slight movement. All of these symptoms are building up stress and anxiety, I feel lost and hopeless because I am constantly miserable. My blood work always comes out fine, doctors can't find anything "obvious".
Just wondering if anyone has similar symptoms or would have any suggestions... To add to this, I am 24 years old, non-smoker, don't drink and my BMI is within range. Doctors have not been able to help me and most of them don't understand that this is completely preventing me from living a normal life. I get light headed and dizzy if I try to exercise, walk up the stairs, go in an elevator, turn too fast or sometimes it happens from just sitting and not moving. Usually my heart rate is part of the symptoms and it becomes elevated spontaneously.
Perimenopause - Cramps And Restless Legs, Racing Heart
I want to kill someone! I'm angry all the time and yell at people for no justified reason whatsoever. I used to be such a patient, loving, caring person who laughed things off and was the life of the party. Now I do not want to leave my house, I let laundry and dishes pile up Cuz I'm too exhausted from doing nothing. All I want to do is self medicate and sleep, but wait I cannot sleep I have restless legs and leg cramps and my mind is racing. I hate my job which has become too stressful to handle lately. Martinis are my new best friend. I'm lonely but do not want to date I have a 21 yr old 15 yr old and 3 yr old.... dad's are not involved. I'm unorganized and spaced out a lot, very different for me...... my doctor says you are depressed then I shoot him with my laser eyes and look for another dr.

I'm 15, I started smoking weed around December. I smoked every weekend, and I woke smoke 2 - 4 joints at a time. I continued to do it until around April, when I stopped because every time I smoked I would get anxiety and my heart would race. at the time, i didn't let it bother me because I believed it was normal. I quit 3 weeks ago, and I have been having signs of depersonalization and anxiety. My heart has been beating very fast and hard for the past 48 hours, and I had an anxiety attack last night.

I have been smoking weed everyday now for 7 years, but total of 16 years, it started off only at night so I could sleep but in the last 2 years it's been all day everyday. I have been having panic attacks, and my heart will never stop racing even when I don't smoke. Iv have been saying for weeks I'm going to quit and the very next day a friend calls and off I go, I have told all my friends that quitting is my goal but I will always smoke just only maybe 2-3 times a year, and if I like my sober state, then I don't have to really. I just want to get my life back together, if I look back it has been a mess for a long time and I smoke to forget my day and relax, but I think it has backfired. Anyone ever go trough this or know the best thing to do?

I have just come out of hospital after being treated with IV antibiotics for a Quinsy. One of the antibiotics was making me feel sick so a nice administered cyclizine through the cannula to relieve the sickness. Within seconds, my toes went numb and my head swam and I couldn't see. This progressed to the feeling that my heart was going to burst as it was beating so fast and my head felt as if it was going to pop. Everything was swimming around and I couldn't feel my arms or legs and they wouldn't respond when I tried to move them. My mouth was numb and I was slurring my words. I was terrified! My blood pressure had rocketed and my heart was racing. The panic button was hit and I was quickly given cortisone and antihistamine which began to calm things down. It was a horrible experience. I honestly felt as if I was either going to have a heart attack or a stroke. I'm only 41 and have three small sons. My vision was affected for many hours afterwards, walls billowed and flat surfaces looked as if they were covered in netting. Very disturbing.
