Nuvaring :: Weight Gain, Anxiety And Depression

I started taking nuvaring a month ago, around the same time I started exercising and eating healthy. I lost 12 pounds in the first two weeks, and now, a month later, I have gained 5 pounds back. I am still eating healthy and have started exercising twice a day for an hour each time, and I'm still gaining weight. Which leads me to my other issue, anxiety and depression. I have always had anxiety, but I only ever seem to get depressed while on birthcontrol (which this weight gain is really not helping). I am running out of options for birth control and I don't know what to do. I need a form of birth control that isn't going to make me gain weight and cry all the time.

Nuvaring A Way To Get My Sex Drive Back Or Stop Weight Gain?

So I've been on the Nuvaring for 11 months now, this is my 12th starting. Unfortunately I have a lack in my sex drive, my boobs have gone from a C to a DD, I've gained about 10 lbs, I have been getting headaches, and I have a huge increase in my appetite. I know every woman has different reactions to different birth controls. Are the headaches normal? That's my biggest concern and is there anyway I can get my sex drive back or stop my appetite and weight gain? It's driving me crazy, my pants are too tight and I need all new bras, dresses and shirts! This is becoming an expensive prescription.

NuvaRing Side Effects - Weight Gain, Acne And Mood Swings

1) Weight Loss- I put Nuvaring in 3 weeks ago & 5 days ago I took it out so that i could get my period (&did) but within this 5 days i have lost 6 pounds. I am 19 years old & weighed 112 but weigh 106 as of today. It is not that I  feel disgustingly full, I just don't have any interest in food & when i do try to eat it is almost as if i get sick of eating, if that makes any sense?

2) Acne- I am drastically breaking out on my hairling & chest.

3) Mood Swings- I have extreme highs & lows in my mood to the point where find myself crying for little to no reason at all but then I am over the top loving & happy.

I am just wondering if these side effects are normal to all birth controls or if I should considering switching to a new one

Weight Gain After Gallbladder Removal

I am 25 years old, 5 feet tall, always been petite and around 105-110 lbs. I have always watched what I ate and the last few years have been gluten free because I thought I had a gluten intolerance/celiacs. Since getting my gallbladder out on 10/12/2015 I have gained almost 20 lbs in that one month. I was 108-110 lb before surgery and I am now almost 130 lb, the heaviest I have ever been in my whole life. My "normal" diet before and my diet now is the same. I eat a grapefruit or orange for breakfast, fruit, carrots, tuna or salad for lunch along with salad or a lean protein for dinner (basically the Scarsdale diet). Since surgery though, it doesn't matter if I eat salad for 2 meals a day and take a spinning class at the gym for an hour I still gain weight each and every day. It's very frustrating because people say there's nothing wrong or "I could afford to gain a few lbs" but a few lbs is a few, not 20. And no, I shouldn't be gaining weight if I'm burning more calories than I'm taking in. The weight I'm gaining also seems to be very cellulite-y which I've also never had before. It also seems tight and my stomach looks like I'm 6 months pregnant. I'm at my wit's end and getting so depressed about it. I know it's only been a month and a half but at this rate I will be obese by next summer. I have read hundreds of blog posts similar to mine so I know other people are feeling the same way. Has anybody here found a way to deal with this?

Gastroenterology :: Gallbladder Removal And Weight Gain

I am a 5' 7" tall 53 yr. old Woman & in fairly good Health. Last month, March 16, 2012 I went to take care of my Oldest Daughter who got sick. One month later while I was still there, I suddenly got sever stomach pains & started to vomit Blood. The pain was excruciating! My Husband took me to the Hospital where we had discovered that I was experiencing a Gallbladder attack. I was told that I had to have my Gallbladder removed, now the prospect of surgery doesn't scare or bother me but I have been told several horror stories about Weight Gain after surgery & frankly I'm not sure I even want to go through with it now. You see 6 years ago I was put on some medication & one of the side effects was Weight Gain. At the time I weighed between 98 pounds & 105 pounds (on a good month) but that was my normal weight. I know that isn't normal for most people but it was normal for me, remember we're not all built the same. At the time I was taking the new medication I thought to my-self "Hmm I could use a few extra pounds" (as I always have had a really hard time gaining any weight, unless I got pregnant & that was an impossibility for me, because I had a Partial Hysterectomy when I was 24 yrs. old due to Uterine Cancer). Within a 3 month period I had gained almost 100 pounds, so I took my-self off of the medication I was on. Since then I have managed to lose only 20 pounds, so the prospect of Gaining more Weight kind of freaks me out a little bit. Plus there is another thing I've been thinking about, my Older Sister needs a Partial Liver Donation & it seems I'm the only person in my Family who's not only willing but able to Donate a part of my Liver to her & the thing that is worrying me right now is the amount of Tylenol I've been taking for the pain (although I've been trying to keep it to a minimal). I'm worried that the Tylenol might be causing some kind of damage to my Liver & I won't be able to donate a piece of my Liver to My Big Sister in June of this year (2012). My questions are, should I wait until after the Liver Donation to have my Gallbladder removed or should I do it as soon as possible so I can start the healing process? I really hope that I don't have any more Weight Gain but Weight Loss instead after the surgery.

Contraception :: Mirena IUD Removal

After 5 years and 7 months I’m booked in now to have my Mirena IUD removed on the 24th of Feb.

A bit of background,

I’m currently 34 years old, Single, have no children and never been pregnant.

I have a top OBGYN, after many years and many problems I had the IUD inserted via a laparoscopy and D&C under anesthetic to help with Menorrhagia.

For me having the IUD inserted was never about birth control it was about assisting to reduce the extreme excessive bleeding I was having nearly every two weeks for 9 odd days at a time.

It took a few months for the IUD to settle and function correctly for me.

I am pleased to say that having the IUD did help with dramatically reducing the Menorrhagia.

However,

During this time I have suffered dramatic hair loss, weight gained (40 kgs) approx. 88lbs twice and shed it again now twice, fluid like swelling in ankle and knee joints, developed both food intolerances to avocados and bananas, and also food Allergies (head to toe hives) from what exactly I’m still not totally certain of.

About 3 years after the insertion I started to suffer bad cystic acne, on my body and face. I never suffered from pimples and bumps as a teenager so this has been an ongoing struggle that I thought was something to do with just growing older.  I’ve tried every over the counter product, spent thousands of $ nothing works.

Over the past few months I’ve been on 100 mg per day doxycycline it has helped slightly but nothing dramatic.

As I’m due to have the IUD removed I started searching information about the process, what to expect etc.

I know there has been a huge amount of negative press about the IUD over the past year or so and one has to air on the side of caution when exploring information on the net.

Here’s the thing I have read a lot of information about women gaining weight after the IUD and not being able to lose it.

To them I simply suggest the blunt honest truth, they are simply not trying hard enough to shed the weight.

That might be a hard fact for many people out there to swallow but people don’t need any more sugar coating.

While hormones do play an active role in potentially having an effect on a person’s body weight, in my instance they clearly didn’t prevent me from losing the enormous weight I gained twice.

As for the rest of my symptoms, I had attributed them to the symptoms of the dreaded aging process, that was until I started to research what I could expect after the removal of the IUD.

I’ve read about many people suffering similar symptoms.  I’ve also read about the “Mirena Crash”.

Personally I’m not currently sexually active so I’ve decided I just want to have my IUD removed and I want to stay off birth control and all hormones for a few months to see how my body copes with things now I’m older.

If my Menorrhagia continues and my other symptoms do not go away after the IUD is removed then I will definitely consider going under anesthetic again and having another IUD inserted.

I’ve started this thread for a few reasons,

1 – To learn more about what other women experienced once they had their IUD removed ?

I expect there will be a period of bleeding (either a few days or weeks) after the initial removal.

I also expect that it will take a few cycles or months before my body returns to a normal kind of cycle.

2- If other people had the IUD removed and suffered any similar symptoms to the ones I listed above, did those issues clear up for you and go away after the IUD was removed ?

If so, how long did it take for you to notice a difference ?

Clearly I cannot say for certain that the IUD has caused all my symptoms, and equally I don’t expect all my symptoms to magically disappear or be fixed once the IUD is removed.

But I’d really like to get some feedback from others regarding their experience of life AFTER they had their IUD’s removed and I’ll post on my progress after my IUD is removed here as well.

Nuvaring - Gained 30 Pounds Weight After 6 Years Of Use

I have been on and off birth control since I was about 12 years old (I am now 24). I have been on the nuvaring now for at least 6 years and have gained around 30 pounds and recently haven't been feeling right. So almost two weeks ago now I took it out for good. Well, I felt great for the first week.. even lost 3 pounds! Now for the past three or four days I just haven't felt "right". I have felt hot, (checked my temp and im normal) headaches, tired, had horrible cramps after having sex, and just off. Question is.. is this just my bodies reaction to not having the added hormones anymore? Has anyone else gone through this? I feel like im losing my mind. My poor husband has been taking care of me all weekend and I just want to feel normal again. Help!! Also, I do not want to be on the ring again and I cant even remember to take pills. I am not anywhere near ready to have a baby. Any suggestions on other alternatives? We have tried using condoms but the husband isn't exactly "Getting his" from using them. I feel terrible!!!

Contraception :: Copper Coil And Weight Loss

I ask if anyone has come off the pill had the copper coil fitted and managed to lose weight. I've put 3 stone on and can't budge it. I'm going for a consultation on Monday for the coil. I think what I'll find weird is I've never had a period in years so will not be looking forward to that. Do you have to have it fitted after you've had a period?

Carbimazole :: Weight Gain

I have today been diagnosed for the 2nd time with an overactive thyroid.

The first was about 6 years ago and I was put on 25mg of Carbimazole a day. Unfortunately my weight went from a 12 1/2S to 16st once I started the tablets. I took the decision to stop them as I suffered from some of the side effects and my white blood cells were being affected. Since stopping the tablets my weight has gone down (from 16st to 9st) and people say I look great.

I have been told today that I should restart the tablets as my T4 is now instead of the norm of 10 to 25 gone up to 70. I am worried that if I start the tablets my weight will go up very quickly. I have all the symptoms, shaking hands, lump in the throat, can't stand heat etc.

Having been in this situation before I am very worried and not sure what to do even thought I have told my doc my concerns re weight gain.

Mirtazapine Will Help Me Gain Weight?

I have been prescribed 15mg for 2 weeks for depression which has lead to severe weight loss Iam 5'5 and weigh just under 7 stone which makes me look horrible, so horrible I can hear people talk about me in the street, I look terrible. Before taking the medication I was aware of my weight and have always made special efforts to eat regular but still could not maintain a good weight. I have only been on mirtazapine for a few days, and have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks to see how I'm getting on and maybe to up my dosage. I haven't had any hunger cravings like I have heard people talk about and I'm really worried that I'm going to be the only person ever not to gain weight from these meds. My weight really adds to my depression and stops me going out the house, I want to gain 2-3 stone. But don't think this would be possible as I already eat a good amount of food every day.

Weight Gain On Mirtazapine

I'm an 18 year old girl who has been taking this medication otherwise known as Avanza or Remeron for 9 months now. I have gained 10kgs or around 22lbs in this time and therefore am going to begin the process of coming off it in about 3 weeks as I have found that my mood has gotten worse because I feel self conscious all the time now about the weight gain.

I haven't changed my eating habits much at all, in the first few weeks I ate more but once I noticed the weight gain I started eating only healthy foods and small quantities but it hasn't shifted the weight just slowed the gain down.

I am seeking help as to how people have come off the medication, and what effect it has had on their weight. Did it come off easily? How long did it take to lose the weight etc...?

Oh and I am on a 30mg dose.
