Propranolol :: Helped My Migraines - Bedranol Is This The Same Drug?
I have been taking this tablet now for my 4th week, I have had a lot of teething problems BUT this week was my due date for my periods and usually for 2 days I get almighty migraines but this tablet has most definitely helped just cut to a headache Nothing at all what I used to experience!!!. I have heard a lot of people not liking this drug But for me it has helped and will continue taking it, right so I have a question for 4 weeks I have been taking Half Beta Prograne 80mg, but called to pick up a new prescription and have been given Bedranol is this the same drug? .

I really want to get off propranolol but I can't seem to do it without getting horrible withdrawal symptoms like racing heart, sweats, dizziness and breathlessness! Has anyone successfully got off it and if so how did you do it? I have tried tapering my dose I have went from 120mg per day down to 10/20mg a day but this last hurdle is messing with me!

I almost feel a fraud here as the docs say I don't have PMR.
On the recommendation of this group I requested a 2nd opinion. I asked to be referred to see Professor Bowman at The QE Birmingham.
Today was my big day. Well the Prof was lovely. He listened really well, gave me a good examination and is following up with loads more blood tests.
I was also treated to xrays on my chest, hands & feet.
Now the downside (again) he went over all my blood results from the last 9 months and said that every result pointed to PMR. But bigggg BUT,
he doesn't feel he can say it is as I am too young! (44) I certainly don't feel to young when I am trying to get out of bed and get moving in a morning.
I have been on pred for few months now after begging my GP. Then refusing to leave the surgery until they listened. My GP agreed to a trial. Base line bloods for ESR & CRP 6 weeks on pred at 15 and then more bloods. Results were amazing and my bloods came back almost within the normal range. Good news my GP has since said I do need steroids.
I am now at 10mg a day but I feel it could do with being higher. Today Professor Bowman said he is really worried about me taking steroids. He agreed I needed them but is concerned about long term use and my age. I got moon face very quickly on pred and Prof commented that he could see pred was already making changes to me that he didn't like.
He wants me to come off pred using the dead slow method and wants me to start another drug.... Either Methotrexate or Azathioprine. I get tp choose.
So my lovely people have you had any experience of these drugs?
Which one would you choose?
Anxiety :: Coming Off Propranolol - By Cutting The Tablet?
I have been on 10mg PROPRANOLOL for a few years for anxiety attacks which would last 4 days of continuous sickness and sweating, also heart palpitations.
I have managed to control this over the past 2 years and very rarely get panic attacks , if i do the sickness and palpitations last a day.
I was taking this medication twice a day, however the beginning of last year i weaned myself down to one tablet a day (10mg) and then eventually stopped taking my tablets all together. i then became very anxious and had to reverse back to 0ne tablet daily. This is with the odd attack.
A year later and having no attacks i would like to try again and wean myself of completely but scared i will revert back to being sick an anxious again. However putting that to one side and thinking positive i would like to stop them.
Can i cut the tablets with a drug cutter and reduce the amount to 5 mg daily and stop.
Nortriptyline - Can Cause Dependency?
Following my appointment to the neurologist, I have been prescribed Nortriptyline 10mg for 4 weeks. I was previously on Amitriptyline, and felt really bad while taking them. I did tell this to the neurologist hence why the 10 mg. My only concern is becoming dependant on these tablets for a long period of time which as a 21 year old I do not wish too. Can anyone offer me any advice? I am finally getting sleep on my own as my body got used to the Amitriptyline.

Nortriptyline - Did It Help The Dizziness And Anxiety?
I have MAV, and recently tried amitriptyline and had increasing anxiety on it, so the ENT took me off of it. He said the nortriptyline is in the same family as the ami but has less side effects.
I am afraid to try it, I don't do well on meds have lots of side effects. I've tried many SSRI's but cant take any of them.
I wondered if any of you have been on the nortriptyline and how you did, did it help the dizziness and anxiety? When you stopped using it was it hard to stop? Did you have side effects and which ones?
The Ent says the only way to know if its MAV is to try the meds. The ami stopped the dizziness and my tension headache but boy it activated some awful anxiety. So he said yes you have MAV coz the med stopped the dizziness.
My symptoms are, started out with this awaul rocking and swaying sensation that lasted for months, I've had this for a year in July, dizziness of course, falling feeling, I get slight dizziness that is preceded by either headache with neck pain or dizzy with upper shoulder pain and tightness, vision is off at times, when sitting feel like I'm moving and that goes thru my entire body, fear and worry, legs ache sometimes from having to stabilize my balance, off balance when walking, feels like the floor is going up and down, when I bend forward in the shower or vacuuming or mopping I get bad dizziness that will last for hours to days, just showering make me dizzy when washing my hair, I don't even have to put my head back just moving my hands up and down on my scalp will do it, doing dishes the looking down can cause it, looking down to write will do it, sinking feeling when sitting and more but thats enough I think. Do any of you have these?
Does your dizziness go on all day and sometimes on and off? Do you have anxiety with it? Gosh I had awful anxiety for months I just couldn't get use to the thought of having this forever. But my ENT and VRT therapist say it will go away.

View 14 RepliesWeaning Off Nortriptyline After 4 Years
So i've been on nortriptyline for over 4 years for chronic migraine. I'm 25 and have had migraines for years, they used to be constant everyday, when i waken up etc, my neurologist had me try all medication but i had no luck with beta blockers, topamax etc and my last chance was nortriptyline and if it didn't work, the next option was an injection into the base of my skull (which i didn't want) luckily the nortriptyline at 75 mg decreased the severity and frequency of my chronic daily migraines.. now i have other health problem undiagnosed yet, and very bad constipation problems and fluid in my abdomen with bad distention, i never thought until recently that the nortriptyline could have been causing this but from reading on the internet its possible.
So im considering weaning off to see if my bowel problems go away and the fluid water retention, has anyone any suggestions on how to wean off this?
Withdrawal symptoms?
I know its possible that my terrible migraines could come back but i want to take a chance.
How Long Does Nortriptyline Take To See Results?
I’ve been dizzy for almost 6 months now. Vestibular dysfunction, tried VRT with no real improvement and my neurologist put me on Nortriptyline. He said it would take about a month to really start working and he’d see me back in two months.
About two weeks into it, I found my limbs were feeling weak and shaky, making walking even more difficult and anything requiring a lot of standing or balancing on one leg very hard. I called to let him know, and he said to keep going since I wouldn’t know yet, I was still adjusting and he’d see me at the end of two months.
Well, it’s over a month (this is my 32nd day) and things keep getting worse. The dizziness is stronger and more persistent, the shaking hasn’t gone away, my eyesight is worse, I sometimes feel like I’m plain going to pass out and all this has given me chronic headaches for the past two weeks straight – I feel like I live on pain relievers. But I’m scared to call the doctor – he’s made it clear, two months.
So… has anyone else taken Nortriptyline for the dizzies? Is one month just when getting better might start and you need to leave it longer to see real effects?
Nortriptyline And Water / Fluid Retention ?
Ive been on nortriptyline for, id say at least 5 years plus now, 75mg daily for chronic migraine.
I was searching google about fluid in the abdomen which i have had for the past few years, i literally look 5 months pregnant which nevers goes away or down and i came across something about anti depressants causing water retention.
Does anyone know if fluid retention can be caused by nortriptyline?
Nortriptyline Will Affect My Menstrual Cycle?
I've been on 100 mg Nortriptyline for months now for my chronic migraines and one night I felt like I was suffocating so I stopped taking them cold turkey. It's been about a week since I stopped them. Is there any chance it will affect my menstrual cycle? While taking them, it was never at the same time, it was always early or late so I'm not sure what to do.
View 1 RepliesNeck Pain :: Nortriptyline Vs Gabapentin
I know we're all different but due to neck/shoulder/arm/face pain with radiating pain to my arms at times I was previously prescribed pregabalin, that gave me heart palps and rls, now tried gabapentin and I think I had some sort of adverse reaction to it as my side effects were quite severe so I'm wondering where to go from here re meds. I've tried amitriptyline but not for long however the short time I took it it did nothing. Was thinking of trying nortriptyline as an alternative as read side effects not so bad.
Does anyone have any experience with Any of these 4 drugs or an alternative and if you've tried nortriptyline how well it did work vs it's side effects.
Or if anyone has found a miracle drug please let me know. I think key for me is muscle relaxation and nerve burning reduction.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome :: Nortriptyline For IBS?
I am 37yo and suffering from IBS for 5 years. I did all the tests you can possibly imagine...but nothing. The gastrologists doctors (2 of them) told me to try Nortylin/Nortriptyline, saying it should help. Anyone tried it ? any results ? I am a bit reluctant to that till now...Thanks a lot
View 4 RepliesPain Management :: Amitriptyline Vs Nortriptyline
I have suspected Piriformis Syndrome & SI Joint Dysfunction also causing sciatica, have also had some nerve pain in the back of my thigh, occasional calf cramps, foot cramps, and foot pain. Since my last Cortisol injection into my SI joint it has made everything horribly worse, I cannot sit now for very long without severe left foot pain that makes me feel nauseous it's so horrible. I have informed the consultant of this and am on a waiting list to go back and see him, this is the 2nd time the injections have caused me extra pain so have now lost faith in these and want to try alternatives.
My consultant previously wanted to put me on Amitriptyline but I have been on this before and was taken off it due to serious sedative side effects (even fell asleep eating in a restaurant) was on a small dose and still didn't improve with time. So I've read that Nortriptyline is an alternative with less side effects, can anyone advise if they have had less sedative side effects with this than Amitriptyline please?
Migraine :: Withdrawal Information On Nortriptyline?

View 18 RepliesAmitriptyline To Nortriptyline - Sleep Problems
I've been taking a low level of amitriptyline (10 - 20mg daily) for chronic pelvic pain for about 5 years (possibly longer). Recently, my specialist suggested I change to Nortriptyline (10mg daily) as it has less side effects - particularly the 'foggy-head' feeling in the morning that I often experienced.
I spoke at length to my GP about this and they assured me that I could just switch from one to the other, which I have done. Whilst I am definitely feeling less zombie-like in the morning, I find I can't sleep at night. With the ami, I zonked out quite easily, but with the nor, every night since I switched, I haven't slept properly at all. I'm quite run down at the moment so I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to make myself ill if I'm not sleeping.
