View 1 RepliesSleep Disorders :: 3-6 Hours Of Sleep Until I Wake Up And Cant Go Back To Sleep
I'm 14 years old and yesterday school started after two weeks of holidays. I went to bed at 11 PM and woke up at 4 AM. I tried to go back to sleep but I just couldn't. At 6 AM I got up and got ready for school. After school I was really tired and took an hour long nap, but I was still extremely tired. I went to bed at 9 PM and fell asleep in a second. I woke up at 2:30 AM and tried my best to fall asleep, but it didn't work. Its 6 AM right now and Ive done some homework, as I couldnt do them yesterday because I was so tired. The thing is, this didn't happen in my holiday, and I get really cranky when I don't get enough sleep. Do I have insomnia?
View 3 RepliesHeadache :: Tension Headache/prednisolone
I'm 27y,male,weight 44kg. I've started to have headache after having a very tough semester at college 2 months back and it become worse 2 weeks back when i visited a neurologist who diagnosed me with "tension headache".
He prescribed me a cortisone injection in addition to 9 days of prednisolone (3 days 60mg, 3 days 40mg, 3 days 20mg).
The tension headache has gone, however, I still have headache on the sides of my head and behind my eyes, some pressure in my ears sometimes.
During my prednisolone course,I had severe depression, mood changes, anxiety (i couldn't sleep), sweating & lose of appetite. (I didn't have any history with these weird side effects)
Now, it's day 6 after stopping the prednisolone and i still have some depression/worried but i think i'm getting better day after the other.
My questions:
1. How long does it take for Prednisolone to clear out from my system?
2. Since tension headache has gone, why am I'm still having headache (sides of head, behind eyes & sometimes pressure in ears).
Sleep Issues :: Lack Of Sleep

I don't know why but every night when i go to bed i manage to fall asleep but after a couple of hours in wide awake again hence me typing this now. I will manage to get back to sleep but then i am up with my alarm at 6.30am for work. It's driving me mad that i can never have a full night's sleep without waking up.
View 2 RepliesSleep Disorders :: Cannot Wake Up From Sleep
I'm diagnosed sleep apnea and since it's onset, have been unable to wake myself up. This includes alarm clocks, opening windows, setting a sleep schedule, etc. The ONLY way I can wake up is by somebody physically waking me up and that only works after the first couple of tries. First issue is when I hear an alarm clock, I move from whatever dream I'm in to a separate dream where I think I've woken myself up, but I keep trying to turn off the alarm clock and it won't turn off. Sometimes I realize I'm dreaming still and "wake up" into a 3rd or 4th dream that seems more real and have the same issues. Secondly, my body seems to require 13-16 hours of sleep in order to feel well rested and wake up naturally. I am using a cpap machine, however, I sort of sleep walk and remove the machine in my sleep. Any ideas on how I can become independent and wake up on my own?

View 5 RepliesStapedectomy Did Not Work - Day 41
Now at day 41 and stapedectomy still not working. Hearing was no better when packing was removed at 2 weeks. Surgeon said it will still be fluid. Climbing the walls counting EVERY single day. Waiting for something to happen. Just had a weeks course of steroids, no difference. It feels as if i'm in a goldfish bowl and everybody around me is on the outside, i feel like i'm in a deep hole and can't get out. I'm sure there's still fluid there as i can feel it when i swallow, and also on several occasions each day when i swallow, mainly listening to music, i get a one split second burst of loudness which after reading the internet makes me thinks it's my tube blocked? But it doesn't hold open for longer than a swallow. I also get like a thumping on my eardrum when i belch, as if a blast hits it? This also wakes me in the night with the banging. Not that i sleep much as EVERY waking moment of my life at the moment is consumed by it. I've had 6 weeks off work until now, due to go back in tomorrow. My unsteadiness had cleared for about 10 days but came back with avengence a couple of days ago. Not vertigo dizziness, but like the quick movements dizziness. I do still get crackling and clicking in my ear. Spoke to surgeons secretary last thursday who is going to get a message to him this tuesday, as that's the first time she will see him apparently. Has anybody else had fluid for this amount of time, or can give any advice or anything to make me feel it'll still work and that i can get my life back?
View 4 RepliesCitalopram :: Headache And Dizziness
I'm 26 years old and a week ago I felt a sudden headache in my left part of the head(left Parietal Lobe) and my head fell down suddenly like I was fainted. This lasted not more than 30 seconds and happened twice on the same day.
Now sometimes I feel a headache in my left part of the head(mainly Parietal Lobe area) and the dizziness never appeared again.
I'm 175 cm tall, and weight is 70kg
I'm a software engineer and work almost 10 hours a day with the computer.
I also do some studies after my work.
I go on jogging every day.
I occasionally take liquor and smoke(once per month may be)
I'm following intermittent fasting( I don't take my breakfast, only lunch and dinner) for about 30 days now.
I think with my work and studies, the stress is a bit high.
Headache / Allodynia And Gabapentin
For two years I have been suffering with a burning pain on the top of my head that has been pretty much relentless. I have had an MR I and a CT scan which haven't showed anything. I have also had an MRI of my neck which showed that I have a disc bulge at C5 to C6 but again this is apparently isn't causing the pain.
I eventually got referred to the headache clinic who told me this sounded like allodynia and recommended I start gabapentin. This was two months ago and I have worked my way up from 300 mg a day to 1800 mg a day. It has done absolutely nothing but since last week I have had a proper headache not just the burning that I cannot get rid of. I have had four days off work now because I just feel like I wouldn't be able to function. My consultant is away and the secretary recommended that I just go down to a lower dose of the gabapentin so I am now on 1200 mg but the headache is persisting. It varies between a burning pain and I squeezing pain and moves from the back, to the top and forehead.
I went to see my GP who didn't really seem interested and gave me naproxen which hasn't done anything.
First of all I would like to know if anyone has suffered with allodynia on their head and how they treated it secondly has anyone tried gabapentin and feels like I do and thirdly can anyone give me some advice because I am going crazy!
Migraine Along With Tension Headache
I am someone who suffers from tension headache as well as occasional migraine and I have found that any antihistamine with a combination of paracetamol induces sleep and controls pain.
Medications that control pain the best are:
Codeine 30mg (prescription only)
Solpadeine Max - contains paracetamol
Nurofen Plus - contains ibuprofen
Syndol - contains paracetamol
Those medications that cause sedation but don't necessarily control pain as well are:
Covonia 'Night time' cough mixture - contains diphenhydramine
Allergy relief (Chlorpheniramine Maleate)
The medicine that works best in my experience is Syndol, although it has less codeine than Solpadeine Max it is effective and non addictive.

I have tension headaches on and off and this week I've had a lot of them. The muscles at the top of my neck/base of my skull on the right side and my right trap stay tight/knotted. I usually do massage therapy on a fairly regular basis that helps with this and usually keeps the headaches away. Because of a really busy summer remodeling our house, I haven't been able to do this and have kind of gotten "behind the ball". I'm having a hard time getting them under control. Anyone been in this situation and what works best for you?
View 1 RepliesHeadache :: Possible Occipital Neuralgia?
For nearly two years now, I have had a severe pressure pain at the base of my skull on the right hand side of my head. It has steadily got worse, often flaring up whilst I have been in the gym, but now, like tonight, it has been throbbing/stabbing so badly that I am unable to sleep.
I have been back and forth to my doctor about 5 times so far and every time she has sent me for a blood test and concluded that I have low iron and to take supplements for that. My whole family are susceptible to iron deficiencies and I am a regular blood donor who has never been turned away, so I am confident low iron has nothing to do with it.
I was getting quite frightened that I could possible have an AVM in my head, or something putting pressure on my skull, so after much persuasion, my doctor referred me for a CT scan that came up 'normal'. She called me and suggested that I keep taking iron tablets as this must be the cause of my 'headaches'.
I do NOT have a 'headache'!! I keep reiterating to my doctor that it is a constant pressure in that area, sometimes my head even hurts to touch, but she is insistent that it is a headache. Occasionally I get a pain behind my right eye and over the top of my head, so I am getting a lot better at wearing my glasses any time that I am reading or studying. I have looked online at my symptoms, and I think it could possibly be occipital neuralgia - does anyone have symptoms like this? I have looked on other threads but there seem to be a lot of associated physical symptoms, for me it is just the head pain.
If you would believe it, my doctor actually asked me if I wear my hair up at night as she thought having my hair in a loose ponytail could be causing the pain. When I said I wanted a scan, she told me she would 'have to make something up' that sounded worse than what I told her because if she sends a person for a scan and it's not serious, she gets a slap on the wrist, as scans are expensive and she can only request three per month.
I am going back this week to discuss occipital neuralgia with her (let's hope she knows what it is!) and to insist on maybe an alternative treatment to injections or meds - maybe acupuncture?
