Toyota - Rav4 :: Rumbling Noise Happen When Car Shifts Down
2007 Toyota RAV4. So the car (suv) has around 180,000 miles on it. It's my moms and has been a good car so far. Not too long ago it started making a noise. She (my mother) took it to several shops and best anyone could come up with was a "transmission" issue, without any fix. I've noticed when driving it that the noise only happens when the car shifts down, like you're going up a hill and it shifts down. It makes a rumbling noise kind of like when you sit your cell phone on vib and it goes off on a table. It doesn't seem like it hurts the cars performance any just a bad noise.
View 4 RepliesToyota - Rav4 :: 2007 - Low Rumbling Noise At Around 1500 RPM
My Rav4 experiences a low rumbling noise at around 1,500 RPM. The noise disappears if I let off the gas, or speed up. I have brought the vehicle to 3 different repair shops, including a transmission place, and nobody has been able to give me any answers as to what the problem is. One place said that it sounds like it's in the tranny or transfer case, and that it feels/sounds like it's going into the torque converter lockup too early. The vehicle has just over 60K miles on it.

New to my 2008 GX470. 100k miles. Love it so far. However I think I am hearing a intermittent rumbling as I drive down the road. It is like the rumble from a radio base sound. It could be normal road noise but I bet it is not.
I have replaced the left front axle (grease boot broken), replaced the rotors and pads, replaced all differential and transfer case fluids (not transmission yet) and inspected all the suspension parts.
Toyota - Rav4 :: How To Reduce Road Noise
How do I reduce road noise in my Toyota Rav4? Would it work to undercoat it like they do up north? I thought about thicker carpet. it drives you crazy on a long trip.
View 19 RepliesFord Transmission :: 2001 F250 - Vibration And Grinding Noise When Drive Over A Slight Dip In The Road
2001 F250 7.3L 280k miles. Truck is new to me in the last 6 weeks. Was driving out to Glenwood Springs last night and I got a weird rear end vibration between 79 and 81 mph - couldn't say if it's a new vibration as haven't had the truck long enough. It's sort of still there over 81 but less obvious than bang on 80. Whilst the vibration was there I caught a slight dip in the road that caused a grinding noise to accompany the vibration - I'm guessing because something's was getting extra loading on the upside of the dip.
I'm away from home until Monday so my options are a bit limited, however while crawling around in the dark last night pushing and shoving stuff to see if anything was loose I noticed a couple of things:
Minor leak from pinion seal - but it has flung some spots of oil. Drive shaft 'center bearing'(? U shaped attachment on drive shaft to chassis with rubber bearing?) has play I can push the drive shaft at least a 1/4" with my hand and it seems a little sloppy but I'm no mechanic.
I'm going to check transmission fluid level today and top up if required and check the magnets, such that I can limp home as necessary avoiding 80 and get the diff checked and pinion seal replaced. Does the drive shaft bearing need changing or should it have that much play? I'm assuming it's LSD on the rear?
Toyota - Rav4 :: 2006 - Clicking Noise In Steering Column
I have a 2006 RAV4 with a clicking noise in the steering column. The dealership says the intermediate steering shaft, which will cost over $500, but that it can wait - I can drive it safely for awhile. First, what the heck is "awhile"? And is he correct - can it be driven safely? How will I know when it is no longer safe?

View 2 RepliesToyota - Rav4 :: 2006 - Loud Noise Coming From Rear Side
I have a 2006 Rav4 and every time I drive my car after it's been sitting for a while there is a very loud noise coming from the rear of the car, the noise usually lasts about 10 to 20 seconds and only happens when I press on the accelerator, and is always when I go forward, never in reverse. The noise is usually louder when it is humid or it is raining.

Just picked up '14 350 f-sport and I notice a lot of road noise after 100 miles, have about 150 miles on it now and it sounds like the front wheel bearings or maybe the tires? sounds like a rumbling coming from the front. I don't recall hearing it on the test ride, not sure if its normal or not.
View 4 RepliesToyota - Rav4 :: 2010 - Vibration From Rear?
I have a 2010 Toyota RAV4. It is a great car overall but I have a persistent problem with a vibration from the rear of the car. It felt like I was running over tiny speed bumps at 35 to 50 mph. Toyota service looked at the car three times and told me there was no vibration and I should seek psychological counseling. My therapist told me that I did, in fact, suffer from numerous psychoses but that didn't mean there wasn't a vibration in my car.
So I took it in a fourth time and a mechanic determined that there was a vibration that occurred at 40 to 45 miles per hour on a slight incline during moderate acceleration. He believed that it was caused by the Sprag Clutch. He said it wasn't anything to be concerned about and I should ignore it.
The really bad news is that while the vibration has been there for 15,000 miles, I didn't take it in until 60,200 miles and even if they did recommend repairing it, I would have to pay for the transmission work as it is now out of warranty. My concern is that the problem will get worse and the transmission will eventually fall apart.
Toyota - Rav4 - Transmissions :: 2001 - Car Revs To 4K Rpm Without Moving / Hesitate Then Drive
I have a 2001 RAV4 4WD. I gave the car to my sister. When she and other family members drive it, the car revs to 4K rpm without moving, hesitate, then drives. It is dangerous to merge. I know there is a bulletin on this problem for model years 2001 to 2003, and Toyota will replace the ECU and transmission, if damaged, extending the warranty to 150K miles or 10 years (the car has 108K miles, and approaching 10 years). However, no engine light and no code shows up.
We took it to 2 transmission specialists; both will not touch the transmission because they (independent of each other) feel it's the ECU. (We have used them in the past for other cars.) We then took it to 2 Toyota dealerships; Toyota won't fix it, recommends replacing the transmission. We are stuck because we can't get answers and can't get any solutions to our problem.
We called Toyota; the Toyota case worker has been useless, says he sees nothing wrong with the car and said it's safe to drive (it's not, especially when merging). Both local transmission specialists said they would not drive the car in that condition. Right now it's sitting in the driveway, totally useless.
Toyota - Rav4 :: 2009 - Brake Switch And O2 Sensor Gone Bad After Replacing Drive Belt
I have a 2009 RAV4 and it has only 40,000 miles. Three weeks ago, I took it to a local Toyota dealership for oil change and tire rotation. The service manager told me that it needs the drive belt to be replaced and the oil in the four-wheel drive system needs to be replaced. I accepted his recommendation and have the job done. After paid almost $700, I took the car back. The next week, the engine lost power and did not respond to the gas pedal for a few seconds while I was driving on the highway. This problem occurred on and off while I was driving.
In addition, the brake light was on after I had the car fully parked and the car key was out. I took it back to the dealership. After diagnosed, the service manager told me that the "brake switch" has gone bad and it caused the engine lost power because it has a "break safe system". After paid about $130 to replace the "brake switch", the problem of engine lost power and won't respond to the gas pedal was gone. The next week, however, the engine light was on and the warning light of four-wheel drive was on. I took the car back to the dealership again. After diagnosed, this time they said the O2 sensor has gone bad and it caused the engine light on and the four wheel warning sign on. I took the car back again. So I paid another $450 to have the O2 sensor replaced. Now the car seems to be running normal.
Toyota - Rav4 :: 2003 - Vibration From Steering Wheel At Highway Speed After New Tires
2003 Toyota RAV4, approx 130K.
A month ago I put a new set of Goodyear tires on my RAV. I drive on the highway 35-40 miles each way to and from work every day. Immediately after the new tires go on, I notice a vibration from the steering wheel at highway speed, above 60 mph. I took the car back to the tire shop (an independent tire shop, not a chain) and asked them to rebalance the tires. They did, and I took the car home. Drive to work the next day, vibration is worse. Next day, my dad and I switch cars so he can take it in. The tire shop says the front end alignment is off, and adjusts it. Small improvement, but vibration is still there.
I took it in for the 3rd time this weekend, and they swap the front and back tires at my request, thinking this might isolate the problem. The shop also checks my struts and says they are ok. (I don't even know what struts are, but apparently they are ok.) Now the vibration has moved out of the steering wheel and is coming from the rear and the floor. It does not happen when I apply the brakes or am on city streets. What this would be? Bad tire or tires? Something else going on altogether? What should I ask them to do?
Camry :: Rumbling Noise With The Vibration Continues With Driving
2006 camry LE - 4cyl - 140k miles
[URL]....................
The car idles pretty rough & loud but ive noticed its only when im in 'drive' with my foot on the brake, at stop signs/lights. Its also much worse when the engine is cold. It settles right down if I come to the stop and shift into 'park'. So as I roll to a stop and hold the car in place with the brake the engine starts vibrating.
I dont know much about these things but it almost feels like i'm restricting it by having my foot on the brake and the engine wants more gas or air or something (could be way off base, but thats how i perceive it)
The RPMs sit around 1,000 and as the engine idles/rumbles it gets up to maybe 1,200-1,400 RPMs which i didn't think was significant but im pretty new to this.
Forgot to mention the most important thing- there is a rumbling noise that goes along with the vibrating, again only while stopped, goes away immediately when i pull off the brake and hit the gas.
Ford - Explorer :: 2006 - Drive Train Vibration Noise?
Whats making the vibration & noise, my 2006 Explorer V8 LTD 4X4 is making a weird noise (vibration) & I think its the front drive shaft CV between the transfer case & the front differential........ this happens when I`m moving & at any speed, I have brand new tires.
View 8 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: 1999 - Rumbling Noise With Vibration On Floor?
1999 Ranger xlt, 4 cyl. 2wd reg cab, automatic. Getting a rumbling noise with some vibration in the floor ( nothing in the steering wheel, does not seem to affect handling ) runs consistently and relative to speed of vehicle......can not isolate or determine origin of noise.........
When initially driving car after sitting for awhile, the noise does not kick in until 50 to 100 yards have been traveled but is consistent thereafter,.....except for.. completely disappears during taking of left handed curves at good speed but reappears when road straightens...... right-hand turns have no affect positive or negative.
Have thrown into neutral at speed and sound and vibration is unaffected,.... brand new tires ( needed them ) with balancing had no affect either Struts, shocks, springs?
Corolla/Matrix 2009-13 :: 2010 - Dashboard Vibration When Drive On Rough Tar Road
When I drive my 2010 Toyota Corolla on a rough tar road, i feel dashboard vibration on the drivers side. The vibration is sensed in the instrument panel and also around the window. This happens if the tar road is rough or uneven. Is there anyway to remove the top of the dashboard and insulate it?
I live in sunny South Florida, so the heat makes the plastics in these corollas rattle or vibrate more, going over rough tar roads.
Ford Excursion :: Rumbling Vibration And Noise While Climbing A Steep Paved Hill At 5 - 10 MPH
Ok...not sure were to go with this or how to explain it, while climbing a steep paved hill at 5-10 mph I get a rumbling vibration and noise. If I were to guess almost like axle wrap is causing the U Joints to bind or something. Runs and drives fine other then that. If I put it in 4x4 it does not happen, only seems to happen when wheels cant slip while climbing hills at LOW speed.
Don't notice it if climbing a dirt hill. There is a hill at the kids baseball fields that is steep and paved that its really bad on, way to busy right now to play on it to see what's happening. Tranny was looked at and oil changed.
New BDS 4" lift - had same issue prior to lift, though stock springs were worn.
Searched the form but really didn't come up with anything at this low of speed. While in Wisconsin the resort we were at the paved hills were so steep it felt like something was going to break. Put it in 4x4 and it was fine. This was with stock leafs.
Toyota - Rav4 :: 2006 - Top Engine Clean Is Necessary?
I have a 2006 Rav 4 with about 75,000 miles on it. Recently, the dealer maintenance department recommended a top engine clean. What is that and is it necessary?
