Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2002 - Air Conditioner Putting Out Hot Air

Hottest day ever on Planet Earth and my air conditioner in my Pontiac decides to throw hot air in my face! Luckily, for my female companion, she gets ice cold air. This 2002 Grand Prix 40th Anniversary edition has 236,000 miles, I never once had a problem with the air conditioner in the past (have thought about contacting GM asking what they did right in this car)This model has dual climate control. I noticed that in turning the selector knob on the dash climate control panel, there is hot air in the vent, bi-level, heater and defrost, but cold air comes out on the passenger side. The interior temperature functions are all similar on the '97 through '03 models of Grand Prix, just wondered if this is something I can fix, or do I need to visit a Pontiac dealer to have it diagnosed (and spend a lot of money)

Pontiac - Grandprix :: Code P0741 - TCC Stuck Off

Code is for tcc stuck on. Code p0741 is tcc stuck off. So, it's a sticky solenoid. Which means it may start out sticking occasionally and progress to sticking more often and finally staying on/off permanently? If u get the code/symptoms 1 time, does it usually mean it will happen again, soon?

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2001 - Vibrates While Turning

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 L V6 with120,000 miles shakes/vibrates when I accelerate while turning/veering right (as when coming out of an exit to merge into oncoming traffic). Pontiac - Grandprix :: Overheating And Antifreeze Smell

We were driving home yesterday and all of the sudden the car started to over heat and we could smell antifreeze. We turned the ac off and put more water in it. Today we just had to make a short trip somewhere (we were planning on having it looked at first thing Monday morning). The temperature gauge never showed it overheating but as we pulled into our driveway we heard a knocking sound and it just shut off. Iit may just be a leak and it caused the car to over heat??

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2001 - Banging On Gas Tank

We have a grand prix and had the water pump replaced. Soon after this the fuel pump went out. We replaced it 2 more times within a few weeks. Bought another one and this time the car may have run a period of 4 to 5 months before it went out. We have found by banging on the gas tank, and by turning the car on while someone bangs on it, you can hear the pump come on and start the car. Well, once again this week we have had the pump changed and I was about to leave work and the car would not start. Banging on the tank allowed me to be able to start the car... What is going on with the pumps or what is making them go out...???

Pontiac - Grandprix :: Low Coolant Light Comes On Occasionally

I have a 97 Grand Prix GT with a 3800 engine. The "low coolant" light comes on occasionally, I checked the coolant in the radiator and reservoir, both are fine. I replaced the radiator cap. There are no signs of engine overheating. Could it be the thermostat? Also where is the sensor located?

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 1998 - Acceleration Out Of Control

Concerning cars accelerating out of control. I have a 98 pontiac gtp. The garage has not checked out the cable yet. They were thinking it was something else. Thought they had it fixed. Still not fixed. Every time I step on the gas to go into passing gear at any speed the accelerator stay on. I have found nothing to get out of the situation except back the key off one click. Acceleration stops. I still have power steering and brakes. Then I shift into neutral and restart it while I am still going down the road. I can make the car stick on every time with out fail. It only happens when I press the peddle all the way down at once. Very dangerous to drive. I drive it because I know not to go into passing gear and how to come out of it if it does stick on. Turning it one click shuts off your head lights too. Found that out when I got it back and was driving after dark, after the garage thought it was fixed, and got to experience panic of not being able to see for a moment. I unplugged the cruise and pulled the fuse on it a long time ago thinking that was the problem. Could it be the throttle body or cable? If it is the cable why does it go back to normal right away when I click the key off one click and put it in neutral and restart it fine.

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 1996 GTP 3.4L Randomly Overheats

As the title states I own a '96 Grand Prix GTP with the 3.4L engine. I had been having a problem with my coolant leaking so I took it in to a shop I usually trust, they pressurized the system and found my water pump was leaking. Not surprising, I had suspected it was having issues. So they replaced it and all was good for about a day or two. I live about 5 - 10 minutes from work and as soon as I drove it longer than that, it started overheating at random intervals. I took it back in and they told me it was probably my head gasket but they couldn't see any visible evidence of it going bad so they said it must be in the early stages.

I was not satisfied, I hadn't had any problem until after the water pump was replaced and I've never had any major engine issues. I finally managed to nail down a sort of pattern to the overheating. It only starts to overheat once it has been running for awhile, whenever it does overheat neither of my radiator fans turn on, turning to the right while driving cools it down, turning it to the left while driving allows it to overheat again, revving the engine when it overheats ALWAYS cools it back down at least for awhile. The other strange thing is that it will overheat for awhile and then stop and go back to normal operation, my fans will work again, and the temperature never climbs past 210. Then at another random interval, it will start overheating again.

It doesn't sound like a head gasket going bad to me but then I've never had one go out on me. It sounds more like I have a coolant flow problem (maybe the new water pump is faulty?) because every time I rev it, it cools down immediately. Or maybe I have a faulty sensor/thermostat/computer module since my fans never run when it overheats and it never overheats when my fans actually turn on? If it's a head gasket I'll deal with it but at this point I am a little skeptical.

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2002 - Jerks When Shifting

My 2002 Grand Prix jerks when shifting. It originally happened earlier in the spring but fixed itself after I had a coolant leak fixed. Now it's happening again. The coolant and ATF levels look okay. I found one possible fix on Google but wanted to get some other opinions first. What's wrong, or how urgent it is? Is this something I might be able to fix myself without a lot of trouble?

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 1998 - Starts Coughing At 45 - 50 Mph?

I travel to get to work, and on the way I use the interstate. Speed is posted at 55, naturally, but in the fast lane - the left-most lane of 4 - you have to keep up, you understand. Fast lane is usually 65 to 70.So I'm traveling on the Interstate and in order to use the faster lanes than the right lane I depress the accelerator, and the car - 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix - speeds up, as you would expect. However, when it reaches about 45 to 50 mph the car begins to ... cough. Just a little. If I step on the gas harder so that overdrive kicks in the car stops 'coughing'. As I decelerate there is no coughing, only when I am speeding up and hit that 45 to 50 mph barrier.What is causing this?
