Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2003 - Jerks And Struggles When Run AC Or Heat?
I just recently bought a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT V6 four door. After buying the car realized the dash and taillights were not working. I brought it back to the lot and they fixed the tail lights and dash lights. They said the box was just sitting on the frame and was shorting out wires but now was fixed.
Ever since this was fixed when I run the AC or the heat or defrost the car starts to struggle or jerk. Sometimes the Airbag light or the low oil level light will come on (the oil level is fine) and sometimes the gas gauge will drop a little, lastly it will sometimes stall when slowing down when pulling into a parking lot.
When I do NOT run the AC or heat the car seems to run and drive pretty smoothly in general. Yet sometimes I do get an air bag light come on or a little jerk when I slow down at the light or in a parking lot but nothing like when running the AC.
The mechanic at the car lot is stumped at what could be causing this. I think I need to find a new mechanic. What would be causing this? A sensor? The car drove fine until the dash and taillights were fixed.
Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2002 - Air Conditioner Putting Out Hot Air
Hottest day ever on Planet Earth and my air conditioner in my Pontiac decides to throw hot air in my face! Luckily, for my female companion, she gets ice cold air. This 2002 Grand Prix 40th Anniversary edition has 236,000 miles, I never once had a problem with the air conditioner in the past (have thought about contacting GM asking what they did right in this car)This model has dual climate control. I noticed that in turning the selector knob on the dash climate control panel, there is hot air in the vent, bi-level, heater and defrost, but cold air comes out on the passenger side. The interior temperature functions are all similar on the '97 through '03 models of Grand Prix, just wondered if this is something I can fix, or do I need to visit a Pontiac dealer to have it diagnosed (and spend a lot of money)

Recently I noticed that my car is whining when I'm driving. It occurs while I'm in gear driving, not only when I'm turning. I can also hear it when I'm not accelerating and I'm coasting. The only time I don't hear it is when the car is idle or in park.

Pontiac - Grandprix :: 2002 - Clunking Noise Coming From The Front End
I just got a new car three weeks ago and I'm trying to sell my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT myself. Since buying this new car, I haven't driven the Pontiac for 3 weeks. I started it tonight and it started just fine but when I started driving, I heard a clunking noise coming from the front end. I checked the wheels and didn't see anything (though I didn't check too thoroughly). It's definitely the front end. The car has about 158,000 miles on it and before I stopped driving it, it had no issues and did not have this clunking sound. I tried leaving the car running for 5 minutes at a time and then turning it off and then on again thinking it might be that I've just left it sit there but that didn't work.
View 7 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: 2002 - Service Engine Soon Light Has Been On / Code P0442 And P0128
Got a 2002 GT with the NA 3.8 and 150,000 miles. The car has pretty much sat for the past 6 months, driven very sparingly. If it's been sitting for a while (like over night or longer) it will start no problem. If I turn the car off for a shorter period, it will crank but not fire. It will start only if I pump the gas as I'm turning the ignition.
In addition, on occasions it has died while at idle or coasting to a stoplight. After it dies it will fire back up no problem.
Fuel problem perhaps?
The "Service Engine Soon" light has been on for about a month before it started acting up. I had the codes checked at AutoZone and it came up with P0442 and P0128.
Pontiac - Grandprix :: EGR Clicks On And Off Every Other Second
Engine starts then runs for a period of time until it warms up, then fans come on and then EGR clicks on and off every other second , then it eventually quits. Replaced the coolant temp sensor. And it never sets a code. Have checked wiring for shorts and nothing. Is it a ECM going bad?? When trying to drive it , it will only go about a half a block , then quits , Then will start up again.???

View 2 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: Code P0741 - TCC Stuck Off
Code is for tcc stuck on. Code p0741 is tcc stuck off. So, it's a sticky solenoid. Which means it may start out sticking occasionally and progress to sticking more often and finally staying on/off permanently? If u get the code/symptoms 1 time, does it usually mean it will happen again, soon?
View 1 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: 2001 - Vibrates While Turning
My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 L V6 with120,000 miles shakes/vibrates when I accelerate while turning/veering right (as when coming out of an exit to merge into oncoming traffic). It does not vibrate when I turn left. I have new balanced tires, replaced both front tie-rod ends, and the rack and pinion by a certified GMC mechanic. What could be the problem?
View 1 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: Overheating And Antifreeze Smell
We were driving home yesterday and all of the sudden the car started to over heat and we could smell antifreeze. We turned the ac off and put more water in it. Today we just had to make a short trip somewhere (we were planning on having it looked at first thing Monday morning). The temperature gauge never showed it overheating but as we pulled into our driveway we heard a knocking sound and it just shut off. Iit may just be a leak and it caused the car to over heat??

View 5 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: 2001 - Banging On Gas Tank
We have a grand prix and had the water pump replaced. Soon after this the fuel pump went out. We replaced it 2 more times within a few weeks. Bought another one and this time the car may have run a period of 4 to 5 months before it went out. We have found by banging on the gas tank, and by turning the car on while someone bangs on it, you can hear the pump come on and start the car. Well, once again this week we have had the pump changed and I was about to leave work and the car would not start. Banging on the tank allowed me to be able to start the car... What is going on with the pumps or what is making them go out...???

I took of the handle panel on the exterior of the car to adjust the rod so the door would open easier. NOW THE DOOR WONT OPEN AT ALL!

I've tried removing the door panel from the inside, but it seems useless because the retarded vertical handles cant even be accessed from the door panel.
Pontiac - Grandprix :: Low Coolant Light Comes On Occasionally
I have a 97 Grand Prix GT with a 3800 engine. The "low coolant" light comes on occasionally, I checked the coolant in the radiator and reservoir, both are fine. I replaced the radiator cap. There are no signs of engine overheating. Could it be the thermostat? Also where is the sensor located?
View 3 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: Pulsing / Growling ABS At Low Speed
When coming to a full stop, there is a growling/grinding sound from beneath the floor behind the brake pedal and I can feel the growling./grinding in the pedal as well. Used to happen occasionally, now is happening more often than not. When the Service ABS System/Service Traction System message is displayed (occasionally) on the message center, the growling/grinding doesn't occur and the brakes work. Like normal. When I turn the car off and restart it, the messages are no longer displayed and the growling/grinding sound and feel returns.
View 5 RepliesPontiac - Grandprix :: 1998 - Acceleration Out Of Control
Concerning cars accelerating out of control. I have a 98 pontiac gtp. The garage has not checked out the cable yet. They were thinking it was something else. Thought they had it fixed. Still not fixed. Every time I step on the gas to go into passing gear at any speed the accelerator stay on. I have found nothing to get out of the situation except back the key off one click. Acceleration stops. I still have power steering and brakes. Then I shift into neutral and restart it while I am still going down the road. I can make the car stick on every time with out fail. It only happens when I press the peddle all the way down at once. Very dangerous to drive. I drive it because I know not to go into passing gear and how to come out of it if it does stick on. Turning it one click shuts off your head lights too. Found that out when I got it back and was driving after dark, after the garage thought it was fixed, and got to experience panic of not being able to see for a moment. I unplugged the cruise and pulled the fuse on it a long time ago thinking that was the problem. Could it be the throttle body or cable? If it is the cable why does it go back to normal right away when I click the key off one click and put it in neutral and restart it fine.
