Passat (B5) :: Tranny Makes Occasional Grinding Noise When Cold
01 Passat v6 150K tiptronic. When cold, the tranny makes an occasional grinding noise however when at operating temp it runs fine with no slippage. Changed the fluid/filter and added lucas treatment. It worked a little but my mech said to warm up the car before driving. Might be the torque converter?

View 6 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Reverse Jumping Out Of Gear / Loud Grinding Noise And Pops Back In
I have a problem with my reverse in a 5 speed 105 hp Tdi. It jumps out of place when i try to move the car, makes a loud grinding noise and pops back in, I'm guessing the selectors are worn or maybe the teeth are too. My question is, how hard is it to replace the selectors (if it is the selectors that are worn of course), what is the cost of getting it done in the shop and most important does this sign mean I will have the same problems with the rest of the gear in nearby future?
View 2 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2005 - Making Rubbing / Grinding Noise Intermittently?
My 05 Jetta TDI is intermittently making a rubbing/grinding noise. Not in stop and go traffic but when I come to a stop at a stop sign, but only just before I come to a complete stop, not as soon as I hit the brakes. The shop that put the brakes on (about 18000 miles ago) looked at pads, rotors and pedal but said it's all fine. Could it be the booster, abs, or something else completely?
View 3 RepliesCamry :: 2002 - Grinding Noise And It Won't Move In Reverse Or Drive
I replaced the front hubs and bearings on my brothers 2002 Camry today. He drove less than a block and developed awful grinding noise and it won't move in reverse or drive. It rolls when I put it in park. I had to pull it back into my shop. Is it possible the inner CV came loose and i didn't realize it? It all seemed to go back together fine. The new CV axle nuts were quite tight and slow to put on with my impact gun.
What else could possible go kaput when I re & re hub/bearings? And what a long ugly job to replace those bearings. Don't even think about doing this without a good hydraulic press. Up to the point of getting knuckle off, it was easy job.
Golf V R32 :: Turning From P To Reverse Is Rough / Strange Grinding Noise
So with the temps on the east coast being sub 17 degrees, I noticed my car acting up on cold start and all the way until the car is at operating temp.
1 -- Going from P to Reverse is rough! I allow the car to "break free" sort of speak, before I actually give it gas in reverse and once I give it gas the car bucks violently a couple times and seems to not want to actually reverse... Issue is gone after driving the car and letting it warm up.
2 -- Again right after cold start and until operating temp - Shifting in either D mode or Paddle mode going from 1st to 2nd creates a strange "grinding" noise (I will try to get a video clip of it). The sound is very similar to that of a MK 4 starter beginning to go bad, but not as loud. It only ever happened going into 2nd gear from 1st gear. Once the car was up to operating temp and driven around the sound did not occur. Even after starting the car up again after letting it sit for an hour or two it was okay.
Both things occur on cold start up with the car sitting for roughly 8-10 hours.
Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 - Grinding Noise On Reverse Gear
My car has been making this grinding noise for the last 2 months. It happens when I put the car in reverse gear and slowly release the clutch. Rarely happens also in 1st and 2nd and 3rd and is always at the beginning of the transition when I am letting the clutch go. I do not know if it is the transmission, the clutch or any other part. I drive a 2002 Hyundai Elantra 5 speed manual transmission with over 120 k miles
Here is a link to a video I posted so you can hear the noise it makes : [URL] ....
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Grinding Noise While Driving In Reverse?
Recently had a coworker point out that my truck was making funny noises while it was backing up. It is a 2013 f150. It almost sounds like metal grinding to me. It does not do it while going forward either.
Have been underneath and can't notice anything out of place, although I'm not sure I'd notice if there was.
Ford Transmission :: Loud Grinding Noise When Put Truck In Reverse
Chasing down a grinding noise. I have done a lot of research but nothing quit matches up with what I am hearing.
I have a 1979 F250 4x4. A few days ago I put the truck in reverse and as I was backing up it was like the drivetrain locked up. After that I put the truck in gear and started on my way. As I got up in speed a pretty loud grinding noise was coming from the tranny. 2nd and 3rd gear aren't bad but when I get up to 40+mph it sounds like crap. If I push in the clutch the grinding is still there. While driving I also put the transfer case in neutral, kept the tranny in gear, pushed in the clutch and the grinding stopped.
I also took the lid off, inspected the forks and thoroughly cleaned the inside but noise still continues.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Grinding / Squealing Noise When Moving Backwards / In Reverse
So I put in new rotors and pads and everytime the car is backing up I get a weird grinding or squealing noise. I've driven the cars for hundreds of miles and this still happens. This only happens when going backwards. Anything to try???

View 2 RepliesTrailBlazer :: Grinding Noise Coming From Front Left Wheel When Braking In Reverse
So whenever I brake while reversing (and rarely while moving forwards) I hear this odd grinding noise coming from the front left wheel and can feel it through the brake. Im not a petrol head but I decided to replace a wheel bearing hub myself recently to save money. I am pretty sure I reconnected the anti lock brakes correctly though I doubt it's that. My brakes are good.
View 4 RepliesCivic - Honda :: 2007 - Grinding / Crunching Noise When Apply The Brake In Reverse
I have a 2007 Honda Civic with about 46,000 miles on it. I purchased the car "certified used" about 1 1/1 years ago. For the past several months I've been experiencing a grinding/crunching noise when I apply the brake in reverse. I've taken it to a Honda dealer and they more or less told me that it sounds like something could have been wrong with the brakes. They ended up telling me they couldn't find anything wrong and that my brakes are fine. I've called the dealer to see if they could look at it again, but now my car isn't under warranty and they'll charge me to look at it. What could be causing this noise? At this point in time it's more annoying than anything - I'm afraid if I let it go it might end up hurting something in the long run.
View 1 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: 2004 - Transmission Making Slight Grinding Noise When Putting Into Reverse Only
No codes, transmission makes a slight grinding noise when putting it into reverse only. Has a slight bump from 1st to 2nd. I flushed 16 quarts of the sp3 through it. Been researching and see a lot of talk about the output and input sensors. Not my car but my sisters. Needs axles, timing belt water pump, ps return hose, plus have champions in there and old ass hyundai wires.... thing does idle rough, motor mounts are new.

Checked boost before fixin Running fine at the normal about 20 psi. ive read a bad or dirty map or iat sensor can cause transmission issues along with the low boost error code. But in my experience and some reading it sounds like a stall converter.

View 3 RepliesPassat - Volkswagen :: 1999 - Scraping Noise Under Car / Something Hanging Loose?
I've recently ran into some issues with my Passat. The other day while driving I noticed a scraping noise under my car. I got out and saw two bracket looking things were hanging down. As far as I know, nothing has changed to the driving but I want to know if it is something really serious. They are on opposite sides of each other, each about a foot length from the front tires (toward the middle) and one appears to be more bent than the other, probably due to scraping.
