Touareg :: Cold Morning Vibration / Rough Idle
Since my V6s very rough ride only occurred on cold mornings (fixed with a new driveshaft early this year), I wonder if some of the newer owners will be complaining of this problem soon, now that we're embarking on fall.
The symptom was strange. On cold mornings, between 30 and 50, the Touareg would feel as though it was riding on extremely rough pavement.... over 50 it was fine, and then, after about ten minutes of driving, it went away at all speeds.
Touareg :: Vibration At Idle / Running Gear Fault Light On At Random
Took the wifes Treg in today for:
1. Crazy vibration at idle (feels like a V8 running an aggressive cam!
2. Running Gear Fault light on at random
3. Loud "ting" noise under WOT (sounds like a soda can in a bicycle wheel.
4. Onstar - Service not recognizing spoken numbers when trying to dial
5. Air Compressor - works for 5-10 seconds then shuts off, have to restart vehicle to get another 5-10 seconds of air
I had the service manager take a ride and identify all the complaints (other than the compressor and the Running Gear Fault)..he said he will stay on top of it. If you recall, last time I took it in for the vibration at idle, I was told that since no fault codes were present, their is no problem. When sitting at a light your head is literally bobbing up and down, everything loose in the car is shaking...just horrible.
They should have it for a while. I got a Treg V6 as a loaner and actually like it better than the V8 (my wife disagrees). Power is onpar with a vehicle of this size/weight. Felt great, but handed the keys to the wife and grabbed mine and RAN!!!!
Touareg :: Vibration And Noise In The Wheel
I realize this has probably been beaten like a dead horse. '04 though. I have an '06 v6 Touareg. When I first bought it, it had a nasty vibration in the wheel, they rebalanced, and rotated the tires. It went away. Now, with about 20K on the vehicle, and having rotated religiously, I have the MOST annoying Howl. The tires have become SO noisy.
View 16 RepliesTouareg :: Vibration In Steering Starting At 55 Mph
I am concerned about a vibration I have in my steering Starting at 55 mph. The dealer had tried several thing to eliminate that vibration but no change. A technical engineer from the Volkswagen Canada office came and tried my T-reg. His statement is that it's normal that the T-reg vibrate at that speed and they all vibrate. We even tried a new truck from the dealer lot and same vibration. The only problem is that nobody told me before I bought the T-reg that it's a normal vibration and it's part of the normal specs of the vehicle. Now what I'm asking each V6 driver to try to notice if their truck vibrate between 60mph and 75 mph. It's a little shake if you take your hands off the wheel.
View 24 RepliesTouareg :: V8 - Slight Vibration While Stationary?
I thought it was just my imagination but I have since noticed a slight vibration in the car while I am stopped at a stoplights. This problem is intermittent, and not caused by sitting on a bridge or other roadway that can move. I can sit at a stoplight and turn off the Climate Control, it still vibrates. The RPMs are constant, nothing seems to be wrong other than the vibrations. The radio will be off (I turn off the techno). It looks like Jurassic Park when there is a water bottle in my cupholder. The vibration is steady in both intensity and frequency, and will not go away on its own once I notice it while stopped. The problem is pretty intermittent and I have been unable to reproduce it for a service tech.

Touareg :: V6 Grinding / Vibration At All Speeds
Lately, Im noting a grinding like feeling at all speeds. Its as if something in the wheels/drive train isn't smooth (like a busted bearing) and there is a low grinding noise that is consistent with the engine revs. I can feel it in the gas pedal and on the shifter when I place my hand on it.
View 2 RepliesTouareg :: Rhythmic Bump / Vibration At 50 Mph?
My wife and I have noticed that at right around 50 MPH we can feel a BUMP BUMP BUm that is very slight. It almost feels like you are driving over expansion joints on a concrete bridge or something just not as severe -- a more subdued BUMP. It doesn't matter if it's in Drive, Tip, or Sports mode it's still there. Mostly in 5th and 6th gears (which is right for the speed we're feeling this at). It feels too slow to be a tire problem so I'm thinking it might be drivetrain related. It doesn't do it everytime you get to 50 but at least once on the way to work you can feel it.
I'm also having a problem with a bad shimmy when we cut the steering wheel hard to make a turn from a complete stop. The whole car shakes until you get the wheel back to the center position it's like glass from then on. I was researching an earlier post and they suggested that uneven wheel pressures might be the cause for the second problen. They mentioned that it had to do with the AWD and differential sensing different wheel speeds from large differences in the air pressure. By the way we have a V8 w/ 19's and no Air Susp.
Touareg :: Vibration / Howl At The Rear?
I searched and found a couple of threads with regards to a vibration or howl at the rear of some of the V6 Touaregs. Starts around 55MPH and continues up to 70 (fast as I've gone since this started). Not so much a vibration as a low pitched, but loud, howl.
Wife and kids noticed it as well. First time, since its winter, I thought perhaps snow or ice in the wheel well or a buildup on the rim was causing an imbalance. Not the case.
Wheel bearing? Car goes in for service next week, but I have a feeling that if I can't get it narrowed down dealer will tell me everything is okay.

Touareg :: Tires Rotated Now Vibration At 70
I had them rotated the other week and at 70 I have a vibration. Dealer does not have the right machine. but my local tire shop has always done a great job!!!
View 8 RepliesTouareg :: Slight Vibration Above 60mph - Alignment?
I put on Cayenne 19" wheels with the high performance tires during my 5K checkup. After 4k more miles I noticed a slight vibration above 60mph, which normally indicates an alignment problem. As I never hit a large pothole or curb, I took it to my VW dealer, (VW of Springfield, VA). They managed to get VW to pay for the alignment, as my it was off when checked. Nice!!! My VIN # was 13,9xx.
View 1 RepliesTouareg :: V6 - Loud Vibration On Roof At Certain Speeds (40 - 45 / 80 Mph)
V6 Touareg, Sunroof, roof racks (locked together at rear.) At certain speeds (40-45mph) there is a loud vibration on the roof. If the sunroof is opened or raised, the vibration stops. Nothing visible on the roof or sunroof which would suggest the cause of the noise.
View 4 RepliesTouareg :: Noisy Vibration Around 2500 Rpm In 2nd And 3rd When Accelerating
I test drove an 08 VR6 Touareg 2 this evening. Felt quite nice though I even with the upgraded V6, I found myself stomping on the gas on the freeway to overtake compared to my 05 V8.
Anyway, what I wanted to post about was a vibration type noise occuring just around 2500rpm in 2nd and 3rd (and possibly others) when accelerating. At first, I thought it might be something in the muffler, but I wound down the windows and it didn't seem to be coming from the outside.
Note that the sound was not any kind of throaty roar - it sounded like something was loose/vibrating. Hopefully this is limited to the particular example that I drove?
Touareg :: Intermittent Vibration / Rattle Behind Dash?
I have an intermittent rattle sound which comes from behind the dash. It just seems to come and go, and I can't find any pattern as to when it happens. It can happen while driving or standing still. Of course, it NEVER happens when the car is at the dealership.
It sounds like a marble is back there vibrating (others have discribed this as well). I can't be sure where it is coming from, but perhaps from behind the instruments?
Others have reported it, but say only that they "turn up the radio". Sometimes I have my wife and kids in the car, so turning up the radio is just not an option. I want it fixed! What it could be???
Touareg :: Strong Vibration Only Driving Uphill
2004 V6 155K : Today I've experienced a strong vibration that only happens going uphill and goes away as soon as I level out onto a flat surface. I had the drive shaft replaced under warranty several years back. The vibration is so strong I thought I had a flat tire.
View 3 RepliesTouareg :: Vibration In Steering Wheel / Car Doesn't Beep
I have an 07, V6 with about 200 miles, no mods, here are my two challenges:
1. At about 60 mph to 70 mph I get vibration in my steering wheel. Before I bot the vehicle the dealer said they checked the alignment and proper air pressure of the tires and everything looked good (I told them what the vehicle was doing). The weird thing is it doesn't always do this, usually every other time I drive it.
2. I programmed the car to beep when I lock it which now it doesn't beep anymore and the light switch near the compass that you can select the light to turn on when you open the doors works, but never turns off when you close the doors so I have to turn the switch off.
Touareg :: R5 TDI 2005 - Sudden Vibration From Below The Center Console
This weekend I suddenly got a hard vibration from below the center console. This kicks in at about 30kms/h, continues even if I move the car into Neutral and free wheel.
View 2 RepliesTouareg :: Steering Wheel Vibration At 70 Mi/h On Relatively Smooth Highways
So far my pos 04 v8 has had a stepper motor changed, CD changer replaced and 4 new tires at 12000 miles! It's in the shop now for a new airbag harness
The steering wheel vibrates at speeds above 70mph on relatively smooth highways (my Wrx and the crappy Jetta rental I drove today showed no vibration to 90 mph on the same road.). The vibration is slight, but definitely there and noticeable if you take your hands off the wheel not a great way to drive at 75mph.
The dealership says they found no problem with steering wheel vibration.
My question is: is some vibration normal in this vehicle, given vehicle size, tire size, and crappy construction? I'm just not used to seeing any based on the Japanese cars I've always driven.
Touareg :: Vibration When Accelerating Over 10mph - Drive Shaft?
So I drive a 2003 VW Touareg....and the other day while driving, felt this strange vibration when accelerating over 10mph. The dealership said it was an $1800 repair and diagnosed it as the drive shaft.
View 2 RepliesTouareg :: Exhaust Vibration / Groan At About 1000 And 1500 Rpm
I've got a V8 with about 250 miles - I took delivery last Saturday. I'm hearing a groan in the exhaust between 1000 and 1500 rpm.
It sounds (and feels) like it's coming from the underbody beneath the center console/arm rest. I can feel the vibration in the gas/brake pedals and the driver's seat. It doesn't seem to matter what speed or gear I'm in... even Neutral. Definitely related to engine rpms as it happens while downshifting as well.
I haven't looked under a T-reg lately. What is under that area... is there a resonator in the exhaust? It almost sounds like a loose brush shield or maybe a bad baffle somewhere.
