Touareg :: Shifting To Low Range Is Ok?
When shifting to LOW range is it ok to do this with the engine off. Like turn on the car but not with the engine on, as if to listen and make sure it sounds ok.
View 1 RepliesTouareg :: Clunk When Shifting From 5th To 4th Gear
Today (not 2 days after taking delivery) I was travelling on the highway. stopped for fuel and as I am decelerating on the offramp when the truck shifted from 5th to 4th it went CLUNK, It did this twice, in the same circumstance. I can't make it replicate the noise every time. But 2 times in 24 hours is enough.
View 10 RepliesTouareg :: 2005 V8 Transmission Not Shifting
It wasn't until very recently that my 2005 Touareg (V8) just dumped a plethora of problems on me all at once. System Fault Workshop, Brake Assist Failure, etc... However, one of the more serious and annoying issues is the automatic transmission.
One day, the action of pushing the shifter over into the Tipronic slot was stiff and unyielding. A little pushing here and there and it popped in there. No big deal. A few days later, once in Tiptronic mode, it refused to downshift, it would only upshift. A few days later, it refused to shift at all once pushed over into Tiptronic mode. Upon removing it back into Drive mode, it also refused to shift there.
Now, to my surprise, my Touareg will not shift gears up or down unless it is in Sport mode, which is not too great for the long-distance commuting I have been doing lately, I would like my 5th gear back. I have been unsuccessful in searching any situations similar to this and I am worried about what kind of parts could have been damaged under the shifter... but I am skeptical about what electronics could be broken that tell not only Tiptronic but also Drive mode not to shift whatsoever, and that it may be more deep-seeded than some flimsy plastic under the console.
Touareg :: 2004 - Hesitation In The Shifting
I have a 04 V8 with a hesitation in the shifting. The VIN is in the 44000's. The dealer says there is nothing they can do to flash the tranny, they've tried and it won't let them. I found the TSB referring to the engine code and they insist it doesn't apply to my vehicle. Is there anyway to find out for myself whether or not it is possible?
View 4 RepliesTouareg :: Shifting Noise Between 2nd And 3rd Gear
I am hearing a noise first thing in the morning when I leave my house and the car is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. The sound, I think, is coming from the front center of car, say directly below the radio area. The noise lasts only 1 to 2 seconds and sounds like when some tries to put a transmission in reverse while still rolling forward. A metal against metal sound of two pieces trying to mate up. I'm thinking transmission...I'm hoping center diff. There was mention of a scraching sound coming from front passenger side on initial startup. Idea was this could be Immobilizer or ABS.
View 2 RepliesTouareg :: Rough Shifting Starts In 2nd Gear
I am new to the all wheel drive breed. When I turn the all wheel drive knob one click over to the right (4x4 low I believe) how much rougher should the shifting be. I notice it starts in 2nd gear, but 2-3 shift jolts the car to the point it almost snaps your neck(not WOT just normal accelaration). Each subsequent shift is a little smoother, but still very noticably rough. Is this normal? Even in the regular high mode, sometimes my regular around town low throttle shifts are pretty jolting.
View 4 RepliesTouareg :: 2004 V8 - Clunking When Shifting, Going On And Off Throttle
My 2004 V8 clunks when shifting gears, causing the engine to oscillate right through the seat. It also happens when driving a steady speed, e.g., 10MPH in traffic, and you goose the gas or release the gas altogether. So far:
1. Replaced transmission valve body
2. Replaced stepper motor
3. Replaced rear propellor shaft and bearing
I think this started with a reflash of the trans to cure the death lag.
Touareg :: Shifting Into First After Coming To A Complete Stop

View 8 RepliesTouareg :: Not Shifting Out Of 5th To A Lower Gear When Driving At Around 35 MPH
Seems like the problems just keep building up. Today leaving work T-reg shifts fine untill it got to 5th gear. It was around 35 mph. Went to give it more gas and it never shifted out of 5th to a lower gear. It did accelerate but even with pedal to the floor it never downshifted. Whats going on. It has done it twice in the past two days. After only having it on the road for less than 5 min each time.

Occasional clunk when truck is shifting gears. Not consistent. On highway at high acceleration clunk is more apparent. Any thoughts. 2004 v10 with new engine placed at 70,000km now at 85000km. Otherwise truck is running great.

View 4 RepliesTouareg :: Sport Mode - Revs To Just Below Redline Before Shifting When Accelerating From A Stop
Lately I have been driving in the Sport Mode more often. I have noticed that when accelerating from a stop it revs to just below the redline before shifitng, is this normal?
I also notice that when slowing down or coming to a stop, it has a "hurky jurky" feel. As if it was downshifiting way to early. is this normal?
Gti - Volkswagen :: 2003 - Shudder While Shifting To 3rd Gear - Smaller Shudder Shifting To 4th
I had recently purchased a 2003 golf gti AUTOMATIC (with optional shifter) with a 1.8 turbo 4 cylinder engine. The vehicle has 139,000 miles on it. Before purchasing, I had a mechanic come out and look at the vehicle for a pre-purchase inspection, and ran the code P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire) which without test driving, told me that is what caused the shift shudder I noticed when I had test driven it a previous day. He told me the coil packs were in good condition by looking at the top of them, and told me if I replace the spark plugs, the issue should go away.
I feel it is important to mention that he had also run codes on the transmission and nothing came up. Taking it home, this morning I had replaced the spark plugs and driven it for about an hour both regularly and aggressively to test it. The problem is still there, and I was really hoping that there is a solution to this problem, because everything else on the car is beautiful, while being my dream car, I just want it to work as well as I know it can. To be more descriptive, when shifting to 3rd the whole car feels basically like it is tripping over itself before successfully shifting.
Prius (Gen 2) :: High RPM Before Shifting
I have a Gen II 2008 with 109000k miles. It seems when it gets hot here in Arizona (near 100 or >) that for a period of time driving home, the car will not shift into the next gear properly. I have to back down on the accelerator to get it to shift to a higher gear or whatever the trans axle is not doing. There are no check engine lights or codes be thrown. Is there a sensor that could be causing this behavior or are there internal clutches slipping. Oddly later driving home things seemed back to normal.
View 6 RepliesGolf V R32 :: DSG Shifting Is Not Smooth
So my r32 is the first DSG car I've owned. Been about over a year now and the gear change from 2 to 3 is not rough, but I can feel it. Almost like a bad dogbone mount...but only up shifting from 2-3. It does always happen. There are a lots of factors that come into play, throttle input, load, rpm, whether spark cut kicks in or not. DSG fluid is changed every 30k, UM engine/DSG combo. HPA puck.
The second issue happens much less frequently. Under heavy load, 2500-3200 rpm, in 3rd or 4th gear, the following upshift to 4th or 5th does something very strange. For some reason, when spark cut kicks in a too low an rpm in too high of a gear it engages the next gear then very quickly disengages and engages again. Almost as if it were another upshift.
VCDS doesn't allow me to access the PIDS for each individual shift solenoid, or the metering valve. Neither does the factory scan tool. I've been trying to catch the strange clutch activity in a log to post but every time I take my computer in the car and log the clutch activity it behaves normally.

View 24 RepliesGolf VI R :: How To Tighten Up Shifting
Well, I just picked up my new Black 4 door Golf R! I bought it used, but got a great deal and it only had 9000 miles on it! I absolutely love it, and the best thing is that my wife actually likes driving the car even though it is manual. This may not actually work out in my favor if she starts stealing it for work. Oh well.
The question I have is if there is a way to tighten up the shifter when it is in gear. I came from a 335 manual and the shifter on that car was very precise and tight. I have seen short shifter kits, but that isn't necessarily what I'm looking for. I wouldn't be opposed to the throws being a little shorter, however, my main goal is to tighten it up.
Prius (2004-09) :: Shifting To P From N / From R To D?
Do I have to shift back to "N" before going to "P" or can I shift to "P" right from "R" or "D"? Is either way better or worse for my transmission?
View 19 RepliesGolf VI R :: Jerks When Shifting Normally?
So, the R is my first stick car and I've only been driving stick for 5-6 months now. I know that smoothness comes with time. I feel pretty comfortable with my skills overall (still have some issue with hill starts and smooth starts in general). Wen I don't know what I'm doing wrong when it comes to upshifting from 1st to 2nd. All other shifts are smooth.
When I try to shift normally, the car jerks. So, I tried releasing the clutch slower, this gets rid of the jerk but it bogs the engine. I've tried various things like getting back on the gas a little sooner, or pausing/slowing down the clutch release through the engagement point but I just can't seem to figure out what works and what doesn't. Is this just an issue of a larger gear ratio gap, rev hang, or what?
