Touareg :: When Parking Brake Released In MFI Got Warning Parking Brake Fail To Release
Had my car parked outside of work for about 12 hours yesterday, and in the NYC cold front, the parking break must have stuck on slightly. When I started to move, despite the fact I'd released the parking break, I received a warning in the MFI that said PARKING BREAK FAILURE TO RELEASE. I pulled the handle again and heard it pop just a little more off. Everything worked great after that. If I hadn't received the alert I probably would have driven off with it on. I'd probably have noticed the hesitation and checked the break again, but the alert was useful. Some of the warnings in the MFI can appear to be a pain at times, but it's amazing how thorough a job VW has done monitoring the cars systems and giving real time information if something doesn't work. You just have to make sure you don't get info overload from it all!!

Ok when I stop the car and get out I can hear what sounds like the parking brake engaging even though I have not pushed the button ( i am scared to death of the button) and sometimes when I start out I hear a grinding noise, that happens when i apply the brakes but then goes away??
Is it supposed to be this way? 11K miles on the car and the grinding noise doesn't happen alll the time like it was the brakes or rotors and they look fine, the pads that is from looking at them??
Passat (B6) :: Electric Parking Brake Caliper Leaking
Today, as i had my car in the repair shop for a checkup i got a horrible message. The rear caliper/hand brake motor (?) is leaking brake fluid. Replacing this is close to 1500$ (I live in Norway) So my question is: Is there any way to stop the leak without replacing the whole thing? Also, i suspect the leak is minor as the brake fluid is almost on "max". So, if it doesn't really leak a whole lot, do i really need to do anything about it? I mean, if i have to refill the fluid container every six months its much cheaper.
View 1 RepliesTiguan :: 2012 - How Does Electric Parking Brake Work
My 2012 Tuguan has, of course, the electric parking brake. It is very refreshing to have a car with a parking brake that actually works. I'm a believer in actually using them.... unlike my wife who just doesn't see the point. And I use it a lot, like for long waits in traffic..... it's so easy.
Anyway, I am wondering how it works. I took a quick look underneath, looking for a motor operated cable that might be working on a secondary drum, but didn't see anything like this. To be honest, I have never seen parking brakes work directly on a disc. I thought it might be possible that there is an electric hydraulic pump that closes the calipers, but this would require some fairly complex valving to prevent back pressure on the master cylinder. How it works. I can hear what sounds like a motor(s) running for a couple of seconds when I raise the little paddle.
Passat (B6) :: Parking Brake Automatically Set Itself And Then Disengaged When Turning Off
My parking brake has automatically set itself and then disengaged when turning off the car about two times in the last month. I have never had it do this before. Should I be worried?
View 4 RepliesSonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Car Rolls Slightly After Engaging Parking Brake
Whenever I park on an incline whether it's upward or downward the car seems to roll about an inch or so after engaging the parking brake and then taking my foot slowly off the brakes. When I engage the parking brake I have the transmission set in neutral so the weight of the car doesn't put stress on it.
View 26 RepliesLexus LS 2007+ :: While Engaging Parking Brake Radio Shut Off?
I recently came across a problem that is not a big deal but enough to irritate me. When I engage the parking brake it will shut the radio off. I cant see to see how the two systems are related to one another. I don't have the brake light lit on my dash indicating anything is wrong with my brakes. I have tried to reset the navigation system a few number of times but the problem is still there.
View 2 RepliesChevrolet - Tracker :: 2003 - Headlights Come On Automatically While Parking Brake Released?
I'm having trouble with the headlights on my 2003 Chevy Tracker. When it's light out, my headlights come on automatically when I release the parking brake, but turn off if I turn the switch that would normally turn them on. When it is dark out, or I drive under a bridge etc, they turn off and I can't manually turn them on. I can "flash" my headlights, but if I turn them on as if to leave them on, they don't turn on. This problem started about the same time that my AC blower stopped working, so I replaced the blower motor resistor and all fuses (I've heard that the blower motor resistor is also involved with the headlights). This fixed the AC, but had no effect on the headlights.
I can trick the lights into turning on at night only by shining a bright light directly on the sensor - they turn back off as soon as I remove the light. I took it to Pep Boys for a basic electrical diagnostic to see if I might be missing something silly, but once I described the problem they wouldn't even bother - told me to take it to the dealer and have the body regulator module reprogrammed.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F250 - ESOF Auto Hubs Not Engaging Automatically
I have a 2000 f250 CCSB 4x4 with the ESOF auto hubs. The auto hubs won't engage automatically. They work fine manually. The transfer case is engaging and correct lights are coming on. There is a little bit of vacuum coming from the vacuum switch but it doesn't seem like much to me. All the dash HVAC controls work fine though. I Lubed and cleaned inside the hubs according to Guzzles directions.
While torn down, I blew through the vacuum port on the outside of the hub and there was little to no restriction. I don't think there is enough vacuum to pull the hubs, but is that possible if all the dash controls work fine? What pressure should it take to engage them? My next step is to pick up a vacuum pump and see if I can engage them with it.
Prius (Gen 4) :: 2016 - Back-in Parking Assist Not Engaging?
I've been seeking opportunities to try out the parking assist features in our 2016 Prius Four Touring, as it is rather weird to have a car steer itself and it's a little tricky figuring out what to pay attention to. The parallel parking assist works quite well.
To engage the back-in parking assist, you're supposed to line up your car correctly--in a T across the back of the vacant space--and push the parking assist button twice. The first puts it into parallel parking mode, the second into back-in parking mode if available.
Touareg :: Differential Is Not Locked / Parking Brake Won't On
I have an '08 T2 and this issue may be unique to this new version of the Touareg. Here's the deal...
Let's say I am driving at 30 MPH on city streets. When I apply the brake, I "feel" what I would describe as periodic engine braking occurring simultaneously. I also experience this periodically in all sorts of driving situations when I am not accelerating. In other words, the truck doesn't always just coast freely. This "feeling" doesn't really slow the truck, it's just a feeling like some sort of resistance is taking place. I have also described it as a hum but it's only slightly audible.
I am in DRIVE with the A/C running . I have 800 miles now but it's been happening since I picked up the truck. Oh - no, the parking brake is not on and the differential is not locked.
When I took my truck in to have the CD changer installed, I tried to describe this to the tech. They ultimately said it is probably one or more of the various pumps. It was also suggested that it may be the A/C compressor but I haven't been able to determine that it truly the case.
I am becoming so frustrated with this that I am considering going to another VW dealer in a friend's car to test drive another T2 and see what it does. I need to figure out if this is just something a T2 does or mine is screwed up.
Again, there have been so many changes in the 2008 model so it may be unique to this new design. Unfortunately, they just came out so I don't know how many owners are out there yet.
Touareg :: DRLs Do Not Turn Off When Parking Brake Is Engaged
I have bi-xenon lamps and DRLs. The manual states that the DRLs are supposed to turn off when the transmission is in Park and the parking brake is engaged. My DRLs do NOT turn off.
So, my question is: Do your DRLs turn off when the car's in Park and the parking brake is engaged?
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2012 F250 - Parking Brake And E-brake Adjustment?
The problem is I haven't seen one for a recent (2011+) SD. I don't see anything that resembles a rear drum. They look like 2 huge regular disc brakes.
I live on a hill. My old man taught me to put the trans in neutral, autos and manuals, put the ebrake on and make sure it holds the vehicle, then put the trans into park or 1st gear. This way the weight of the vehicle doesn't rest on the transmission.
How do I adjust the Ebrake? It's ALMOST holding the truck, just needs a minor tweak. I don't see the dust cover the write ups described at all. The one that reveals the Star Wheel. Are they different on these years then prior SD's?

View 5 RepliesGen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: Do Parking Lights Automatically Turn Off?
So last night, I left my parking lights on in my car (accidentally). 14 hours later, I come to the vehicle and it starts up no problem. I'm assuming that the lights automatically turn off, but the manual only says that the headlights do. I tried to duplicate the situation and I did just once, but I couldn't get the car do it again. Is this a standard feature that I can rely on? Or was this some instance of divine intervention?

View 6 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Parking Brake Pedal Won't Stay Down
When I parked my truck at work this morning, I pushed the parking brake pedal down like always, but it popped back up. I didn't pop all the way back up, it stayed down about 1/4 of the way. Several tries yielded the same results.
Since I'm at work, I didn't have any time to crawl under there are investigate. I'll do so tonight when I get home, or maybe tomorrow. Kinda sounds like the locking "teeth" mechanism may be misaligned?? Since it doesn't come all the way back up, I'm hoping the mechanism isn't totally broken.
