Touareg :: 2004 - Brake Light Is On
So, my buddy has an '04 Touareg. He went to the local dealer (who are well known for ripping people off) since he had the brake sensor light on. They told him he would have to replace his brake pads AND the rotors as well, for the 4 wheels, coming up to almost $2K. His car only has 36k miles, and I told him I thought they weren't being honest. Why would rotors go bad so early? He drives like a little girl, with no strong braking at all, in dry conditions... He hasn't seen any signs of vibration or lethargy regarding braking, the only indicator being the sensor light. I am trying to convince him on getting a second opinion before he gets mugged by the dealer.

Last Friday, as I was on the way to a very important appointment (closing on my house that on the market for 7 MONTHS!), my Treg decides to stop running at the stoplight. I turned the vehicle off and on and nothing. The aircon is blowing hot air and the car would not start. After 4 attempts the car starts up. The battery light comes on.
In front of my house the Treg stalls again and this time the power steering goes out. I start it up again and make it home. I call VW Roadside and they were very useful and got a flatbed out to my place within 1 hour.
They tow it to Advantage VW and they run all sorts of diagnostics on the vehicle and test drive the vehicle 3 times. Nothing shows up. The service manager (Scott - awesome service) states that there is nothing wrong with the Treg and tells me to pick it up.
I show up and I start up the car and blast the AC (it's Texas and it's HOT). I wait for the AC to kick in and nothing....I return the car to service and I get a phone call 2 days later stating that they talked to VW Tech and now they are in the process of replacing the compressor, evap, expansion valve - pretty much the entire AC system.
Touareg :: 2004 - Check Engine Light Came On
We have a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg . 1000 miles ago the check engine light came on and the dealer (I will never go back again) said the catalytic converters were shot. We were going to get second opinion but when we picked up the car the engine light was off....so 1,000 miles later it came back on. Is it a good for us to buy a diagnostic tester and see what the issue is ourselves then take it to a mechanic and have them fix that exact issue?

Just got a Touareg 04 v6 it got something that im not quite shore of. The foot light stay on when i turn the headlight is that normal. IF it is how can i just make them turn on by opening the door. Also when i turn the car on the a/c turn on sometime, the last question is the engine fan would stay on in high speed. I change the water temp sensor on the back of the engine block and still the same problem. My friend it telling me that we my have to change the fan assembly becouse the fan comp it might be bad.

Alright riddle me this my friends. Have an 04 V8 with about 6000 miles. This evening I was leaving a friends house and I turn on the ignition and I get a warning light indicating a bulb is out. Well it was my passenger side main beam! I thought xenons were to last much longer than standard bulbs.
Well anyway I go and get some dinner, and on the way out of the restaurant I hit the button and both lights come on! So they now seem to work fine, but why did the one bulb shut down for a while?
Touareg :: 2004 - ESP Light Comes On After Start Up And ESP Console Button Lit Off?
I had my 04 Treg vagged over a year ago to turn off the seatbelt chime and turn on the DRLs when the hi beams are on. I have not have any problems related to the Vag. This week my ESP loght went on so I brought it to the dealer (a new dealer, who has not worked on my car before). Tech states that the Vagging may have screwed up the codes and caused the ESP fault and some of the other strange things that have happened such as Key Battery Not Found and my audio cutting out for 10 minues last week. He said he could not reset the codes because he did not know the factory defaults. He stated he turned my DLRs on when, in fact he actually turned them off.
Before he noticed the Vagging, he changed the Clock Spring. However, the ESP light returned on and they returned the car to me with the ESP light still on. The ESP light goes off when I start the car and initiall drive but it then returns on. Also, the ESP button on the console is lit off stating that ESP is off.
Touareg :: 2004 - Alternator Light Came On / Engine Temp Skyrocketed
Within 160 miles of having the 40k service performed on our 2004 V6 Treg, the alternator light came on, then almost immediately the CEL light came on and engine temp skyrocketed. Immediately pulled over and shut car off. Found that serpentine belt had broken, but showed no signs of deterioration (dealer agrees with that observation). Now for the worst - at least one, possibly both heads have warped. VW says too bad, belt is normal wear item, need new engine at my expense.

I have a 2004 t-reg, purchased used about 4 months ago. I love VW but have doubts about this purchase from the numerous problems/issues (Tire pressure & flat tire sensor, unable to turn off headlights, etc). This new issue has me worried the most:
While stopped at a light, the car began to shake (almost like it was sputtering at a low RPM), and immediately after, a warning light came on. It flashed at first, then went solid. I don't recall what the warning light stood for (and I don't have the manual with me), but it looks like a faucet (best way I can describe it), it's yellow, on the left side of the instrument panel.
I drove it today because I have to, but only 2 miles. Can I get a way with doing this for the next couple of days? I don't have time to take it in this week.
Touareg :: Intermittent Brake Light Warning Message On 2004 V8
I'm getting an intermittent brake light warning message on my otherwise perfect '04 V8. It is the bulb in the center part of the 3rd brake light. To replace it I looked for access from inside or outside. No obvious way to get to it.

I have a major problem with my 04 V8 Touareg! I can't shift out of park. I spoke to the dealer and they told me that the battery could be the problem since I had to get it jumped. I changed the battery, and I still can't get it out of park. The brake light on the dash is flashing and the ABS light is on. The vehicle is parked in garage and the only way to get it out and on to a tow truck is to drag it.

I have a 2004 VW Touareg with 116K miles. Yesterday the check engine light came on and she is running very rough at low RPMs. The manual tells me that there is either a problem with the exahust manifold or an O2 sensor is bad. It feels as if she is struggling for air. When you start the vehicle the check engine light flashes then stays on in the cluster. What can I expect when I take it in to the dealership? Is there anything I can check before I take it in?

The last week or so, the coolant level low light has been coming on in my 04 Touareg V6, and I've noticed that it is leaking underneath the car. I've been keeping a close eye on the level, and filling it back up until I could get it into the dealer. They can't get me in until the 24th, so when I was under it last night changing the oil I checked it out.
It is dripping from a round plastic piece on the firewall with a square "knob" on it. This "knob" has what looks like a cross indented into it. It was dripping slowly while the car was on, and continues for a few minutes after it's been turned off. I originally thought it was the a/c condensation dripping off, but it's definitely antifreeze.
I fear that it's the heater core and that it is leaking from the inside, but I could just be paranoid. It should still be under warranty (34,000 miles).

Touareg :: 2004 - Shaking / Vibrating And Clunking - Engine Light Blinked A Few Times Then Solid
On my V6 2004 (just hit 120,000 kms, just changed the oils 2 weeks ago) I was driving on the hiway yesterday, when the whole vehicle started shaking and vibrating - engine light blinked a few times, then stayed ON solid.
I could reduce the shaking by letting go on the throttle pedal, so I stopped and checked, nothing obvious, oil level good etc. I could hear some sort of clunking noise when engine was revved up.
Touareg :: 2004 - Foot Brake Depressed Brake Light Stays On?
I have a 2004 Treg with 28k miles. This car has the air suspension and the dashboard with the LCD display.
When the foot pedal break is released, the break light remains on and the center display sounds off the alarm that the foot break is on as the car begins to roll.
After half dozen additional pulls of the break release handle, the issue goes away. This is now happening almost every time the foot break is used.

About a week ago I got the fuel cap light on a steep hill in San Francisco. Next fill up it looked like the cap might have been a little loose. Can't remember exactly. A few days after the first warning I got a solid check engine light. I have 110K miles. I've had the coil packs replaced twice and the check engine light flashed when that was the culprit.
I've driven the car 4-5 times about 5 miles and the light hasn't gone off on it's own. It is a real hassle to take it to the dealer and I don't have much time. So:
1. Will it clear itself of the issue goes away, or must it be cleared at the dealer?
2. Any other V8 04' had the same issue?
Touareg :: ESP Light Has Been Turning Off And On By Itself
My ESP light has been turning off and on by itself the last few weeks. It doesn't happen too frequently but it's bothering me... Sometimes the light is on when I turn on the car and sometimes it turn on when I'm driving normally. The light is not flashing and when I stop the car and kill the engine and then re-start the car, the light turns off! What could be the problem? The car drives just fine, I just want to fix whatever it's wrong before I get stranded and the car is a 03' Jetta 1.8T.
