Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Transmission Stutter / Hesitation At Cruise
My father has an 05/06 4cyl Sonata automatic that he keeps in good shape. They commuted a fair distance before they retired last year, so the car has around 70k miles on it. He'd mentioned to me a few months back that it had a bit of a transmission hesitation when cruising at a steady 75-85km/h. I'd forgotten about it until I drove the car the other day...
What happens is that after cruising for around ten minutes at steady speed, the transmission begins to 'stutter'. It's not any huge event, but it's almost as if the engine was misfiring, which is the feeling you get. A small stuttering as power drops for a few tenths of a second, then comes back, then drops again, repeatedly. What he tells me he does to get away from this is to decelerate to a lower speed and hold there(~70km/h or lower) or repeatedly accelerate and decelerate gently from 75km/h to 85km/h. Both of these worked. I also found a third solution, that if you move the gear selector from 'D' to the 'manual shift' mode (it usually goes to '4' in these circumstances) the problem disappears and the car drives fine. Regular upshifts and downshifts are fine in both automatic and manual modes, and the fluid level is normal.
What burns me is that he'd taken the car in for servicing before the end of his regular warranty period and was told, "Oh, that's normal. They ALL do that. It's just the computer trying to re-learn how you drive." I can't STAND how dealer techs try to take advantage of people like this. Yes, the ECUs self-learn and yes there can be dramatic issues when a new ECU or transmission or whatnot is installed until it happens, but this kind of thing doesn't happen 'out of the blue'! I told him to take it back and put the screws to 'em that they should fix it under warranty since that's when the problem was reported. Otherwise, push them for a really good deal on a new Sonata Turbo...
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Code P2159 - Cruise Control Does Not Work
I have a 2006 sonata gl that's recently had an engine/transmission swap out of a 2007 sonata gls both 2.4L and auto. My car does not have ABS but the donor car did (from what i ready on other threads that important!). Now only a few days after the swap, i am getting a P2159 code (which i believe is for the vehicle speed sensor) and the cruise control doesn't work. Other than that the transmission shifts smooth and every thing else works good, including the speedometer (shouldn't it be off if the VSS is bad?).
View 1 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Check Engine / ESC Light And Cruise Not Working All The Time
However I did get a code for the brake light switch and replaced it. Then the same code happened again and everything started acting up and not working again. The strange part is that even though I got the brake light switch code my brake lights still work. The only thing that stops working is my cruise control intermittently.
View 3 RepliesElantra HD (2006-10) :: Engine Stuttering Between 20 - 50 Mph
2008 elantra, 57,500 miles (~92,500 kilometers)
While lightly accelerating or maintaining speed anywhere in the 20-50mph (30-80kph) range there's a slight jumpy or stuttering feeling. It feels like it's coming from the engine. It's not violent. Passengers don't notice. But it definitely doesn't feel right. It's kind of like a small succession of shakes that I can feel through the pedal. I've been trying to play with it to see when it does it. If you accelerate quickly through this range it won't do it and it actually feels really smooth. Outside of this range is also pretty smooth regardless of how quickly you accelerate. However if you accelerate slowly or just maintain speed or let your foot off the gas and lightly resume acceleration at any point in this range, the stuttering intermittently happens.
This is pretty annoying as 20-50mph is the speed I'm driving at most of the time (city/suburban driving).
Accent MC (2006-11) :: Engine Stuttering Between 1500 And 2500 Rpms
My 2008 Accent started to stutter between 1500 and 2500 rpms. Now the check engine light has come on, and the engine is idling rough.
View 3 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2006 Shuddering / Stuttering On Idle When Accelerate Onto Highway
I just purchased a used 2006 package 3 with 66500 miles on it. Drove it to work today and the car started sputtering/shuddering when i was accelerating onto the highway. The check engine line came on so I took it to the dealership. Turns out it was a bad sensor.
When they fixed the bad sensor, the mechanic told me that its normal to feel a slight stuttering when the gas engine kicks in or off which seems to be confirmed by other members here.
Accent MC (2006-11) :: 2008 - CEL Blinking / Car Started Stuttering And Idle Was Rough
I have a 2008 Accent. Yesterday the check engine light started to blink and the car started stuttering and the idle was rough. I've changed the air filter, which worked. But, it was recommended that I change the fuel filter. But, when I went to the parts store, they say that this model has a fuel strainer instead. What is that and where is it on my car? Is it easy to replace?
View 4 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Tachometer Does Not Move At All When Cruise Is Set
When I drive normally using the pedal, I can see slight movements of the tachometer as the torque converter locks and unlocks (this is normal when lifting off the gas and pushing it again). However, I notice when my cruise is set that my tach doesn't move at all, it doesn't matter if I'm going downhill, uphill, or whatever. It stays frozen wherever it's at when I hit the "set" button. Maybe the torque converter stays locked when the cruise is set? This isn't a problem, it just seems odd to me.

View 1 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Cruise Control Buttons Flaky
2012 GLS ... For a few weeks after buying my car, the cruise control electronics were perfectly responsive.
I find that after a few thousands miles, I am able to turn ON the cruise control easily, but often now pressing the 'Set' button doesn't do anything until I press the On/Off button and turn it back on, hit Cancel a bunch of times, and THEN it might let me 'Set' the CC.
It kind of scares me to think that the CC could malfunction and not let me turn it off AT ALL one day, which is far worse than simply not being able to set the CC.
Would the dealer be able to simply "reset" the electronics pertaining to these controls?
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2013 GLS Cruise Control Does Not Work
I've had my Sonata for six days, and I love it... Except... The cruise control doesn't work. At all. Never did. I tried pulling up on the brake pedal like another poster had suggested, but that didn't do a thing. Looks like a trip to the dealership is in order...
View 32 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2012 SE 2.4 - Cruise Control Cuts Off
Mine has done it a few times now. It seems to do it going up a very long gradual to steeper incline, such as climbing some mountains, when set to 60 MPH. It'll start dropping down until it gets to about 47 +/- MPH, then the cruise just kicks off. No downshifting in sight...
There's a stretch of route 219 through PA heading north towards NY that I encounter about once a month. Yesterday was the 2nd time I've had my Sonata on this trip, and it did it again. It actually did it twice last month on this trip.
The dealer reset the transmission computer due to very cold weather "slipping" from 1-2 shift after the first trip. It appears that didn't take care of this issue, though I didn't mention it to the dealer at the time (it slipped my mind).
I'm reluctant to take it to the dealer, since odds are they won't be able to duplicate the issue. We don't have any roads around here quite like the one this happens on.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: ESC Light Came On After Disengaging Cruise Control
Had an odd event this morning on my drive into work. Put the cruise control on at about 75 mph, after several mins came up to traffic and as I pressed the brake the car began to speed up and the engine revved up, I had to press the cancel button on the cruise control to disengage it. Immediately after disengaging it, the ESC came on solid. Once at work, I re-started the car without issue and the ESC light went off. Didn't try the cruise control again on the drive in.
2011 Sonata Limited with approx. 55K. Bought new in Feb in 2010. I have had the brake stop recall performed several years ago.
Hyundai - Sonata :: 2012 - Cruise Control Did Not Always Engage
Bought a Sonata Limited with 5500 miles on it from local dealership. Soon after I noticed that the cruise did not always engage. Problem is that when I brought it in for service, no one was able to duplicate the problem. What to do?
View 4 RepliesSonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Cruise Control Often Triggers Collision Warning
I have been using ACC a lot during my daily commute, it's really an effortless way to drive the car on a daily basis.
One of the issues I have been running into with it is that sometimes when the car in front (recognized by radar) accelerates and immediately decelerates to a quick stop my Sonata's ACC does not react and apply the brakes fast enough. The car will basically apply some braking power (~50%) while very quickly approaching the car in front, all the while triggering the rapid beeping of the Collision Detection system. Everytime this happens I have always had to manually intervene and apply the necessary braking power to stop short of hitting the car in front. This is pretty ridiculous to me since if the car KNOWS that it will crash without additional braking, and has the ability to apply the brakes, why doesn't it do so properly?
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Cruise Control Set Speed No Longer Works
When I turn my Cruise Control "On" it will light up green on my dashboard, However when I press the "set" button to set the speed nothing happens. It was working fine a few weeks ago. Could it be a fuse? If so what fuse? How I can fix this? 2011 Sonata
View 17 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Cruise Control Will Not Go On And Creaking Sound In Sunroof Area
2012 Sonata Limited... I purchased my car in November of 2011. It had allegedly been driven for 5500 miles by a salesperson at the dealership.
Within a week, both my husband and I noticed that the cruise control would simply not go on every once in a while. The dealer claims to have taken apart the cruise control, looking for problems, but says there are no problems; that I should come back in after docummenting problems more specifically.
I also continue to hear the creaking noise in the sun-roof area. Allegedly, the Body Shop adjusted the headliner clips, but I still hear creaking.
I am most concerned with the cruise control, but annoyed at the dealer for keeping my car for over two weeks and having achieved nothing. I like the car, but this kind of a start with it makes me want to sell it and go get either another Honda or a used Volvo.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Steering Wheel Peeling / Flaking Around Cruise Control
My 2012 Sonata is flaking in the grey area on the steering wheel around the cruise and volume controls. Is there a remedy? Would it be covered under warranty? It's nothing major, but annoying none the less.
View 21 RepliesSonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Cruise Control - Transmission Will Downshift To 4th Speed Whenever Go Downhill
The cruise control on my 2013 works as I expected.
However the cruise control on my 2016 Sonata does not.
When driving at highway speeds (65 to 70 mph) in cruise control and the shifter set on "D" (drive) the transmission will down shift to 4th speed whenever I go down hill.
This might be intentional as a way to keep the car from exceeding the set speed, but I have never heard of this and it would seem to place more wear an tear on the transmissions.
Do the down shifting is engineered in or if it is a service problem that I need to have addressed...
