Touareg :: Squeaks And Rattles / Handbrake Rear Shoes Disintegrated

My Treg is in the shop at the moment to have some squeaks and rattles looked at - and I was expecting to get it back on Monday this week. However, was told on Tuesday by the garage that the engineers had discovered that the rear handbrake shoes had completely disintegrated and that they needed to replace them. Now

a) I don't make a habit of driving around with the handbrake on, and
b) my car has only done 6,000 miles

So what's going on? To cap it all, the parts are on back-order from Germany. Which means it will likely be two weeks before I get my car back. This is starting to get on my nerves. It feels like my Treg is in the garage more than out of it and I'm beginning to regret my purchase.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Rear Wheel Getting Too Hot

2007 Santa Fe about 90k miles - Automatic transmission ... Before suggesting stuck caliper / emergency brake hear me out:

Last year, I am driving around and my passenger side rear wheel is getting hot. Infrared thermometer shows up to 600 degF on the rotor after about 30 minute ride.

Took the wheel off, and I could not move it. Upon recommendation, I bought a new caliper, took the wheel off, took the old caliper off, but the wheel would still not move with the brakes off. I never installed the new caliper knowing it is not what is holding wheel.

Took it to the shop. They took off the rotor, found a groove inside, so said the e-brake shoe is getting stuck. I paid for the new rotor, took it from the shop and the problem was still there. Wheel getting hot. Took it back, and they suggested to buy e-brake hardware. I did, and reinstalled the e-brake assembly myself. The wheel was still getting hot, but only after I used the e-brake. So I took the wheel apart, released the brake an it seemed to 'fix' the problem. So I decided to not use the e-brake at all. Winter went by, I accidentally used the e-brake couple times, but it did not seem to make the wheel hot. So far so good.

Now is June and about 2 weeks ago I started to sense the wheel getting hot again. Now, this time this may have nothing to do with the previous time, but who knows. The temperatures are again up to 600 degF when driving about 45 mph for about 20 minutes.

I took the jacked up the car and tried to spin the wheel and the wheel spins freely. What the heck. I asked my daughter to apply brakes. The wheel can't be moved. When the brakes are released the wheel spins freely. No friction at all. Both inner and outer pads are thinner on this wheel then the opposite wheel, as all of them were replaced 6 months ago. So definitely higher friction. But why. Caliper nicely moved and releases. I took it off and tried it and it worked fine. Brakes nicely engage and release the rotor during the test when car was jacked up. I bought infrared camera to find source of heat, which is proving to be the pads. See pics below.

So what is going on? Why would the wheel free spin and jacked up showing no friction. Why would the brake nicely release the rotor when car jacked up but then cause big friction when car is running?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Squeak On Left Rear Wheel

Need to identify what could this be? It used to come and go, now it's constantly here. I took it to the dealer but there was a 3 hour waiting time, so I might have to go another time. If you do know what is it, could I fix it myself? While driving there's no squeaking, but I can hear a metal on metal sound while on bad roads, the type of noise you would expect from a bad tie rod or something like that, on good roads it's fine. The noise you can hear on the video happens when I push the car side to side. [URL] .....

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Code C1209 - Faulty Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor

My mother in laws 2012 Santa Fe had a number of dash lights on (ABS, hill decent, stability control). I put my scanner on it and came up with fault code C1209 which showed up as a faulty right rear wheel speed sensor. I have replaced this module and then cleared the codes.

However, the dash lights still light up and the vehicle continues to throw the same code. I don't work on Hyundai's very often so I am at a bit of a loss.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Front Tire / Wheel Noise

My wife has a 2010 Santa Fe with AWD and 40,000 miles on it, and my daughter has a 2008 AWD with 38,000. I don’t drive my wife’s car much but after taking it on a trip I noticed that the front wheels/tires seemed louder than normal, exactly like a bad wheel bearing or when you are running snow tires. I had the tires balanced and inspected and took the car to the dealer sure that there was a front wheel bearing going out but they said it was fine. A week later I was driving my daughter’s 2008, same noise. Tires on both cars are fairly new and don’t appear to have any problems. So, is this common to these cars and considered normal?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2010 - Noise From Front Right Wheel When Starting Out

Well, even though I love my 2010 SF SE I have had a few issues. I've had my power steering pump replaced twice and now I'm hearing a clunky/creaky noise coming from the right from wheel. I"m thinking it is a sticky caliper. It happens most frequently when I am just starting out from having the car parked for a while. When I put my foot on the brake and then release it I get the noise. It seems to go away after I have been driving a while.

Can't say I ever had this much trouble with my previous generation SF. Nothing major but annoying none the less. BTW I have just under 30k miles.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Creaking Noise From Front End When Turning The Wheel

My parents have a 2007 hyundai santa fe AWD and recently there is this creaking noise from the front end when you have the car in reverse and you're foot on the brake and turn on the wheel, I had someone in the car and I stood outside it sounds like its coming from the center of the wheel near the hub it has that sound like a rusty door hinge, is there a problem with front wheel bearings on these cars we had the two rear ones replaced under warranty because of a humming thrumming noise and now there is a humming thrumming noise again but hard to tell if front or rear and the tires are in good condition no cupping.

Is there an easy way to check the hubs on these cars besides the normal move the tire up and down for play. By the way the car has 105000 kms on it...

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Whining Screeching Noise When Turning The Steering Wheel

Our '07 Santa Fe (3.3 L) has began making a terrible noise when turning the steering wheel. It is a deep, whining screeching noise that seems to come from the front passenger side of the car. It isn't a metal-on-metal sound, but is similar to the sound my old skid-steer loader used to make at work when the hydraulics were going out. It also seems to be worse when turning right.

At first I thought it was the power steering pump, but looking at some diagrams online it appears that the pump is to the rear of the motor.

The wife says that the sound seems to get worse after it rains. Saturday she drove into Austin to run some errands and when she got back home the sound was really loud. I drove it into town and after a while the noise went away. She says that the sound has returned, but not as bad as it was this weekend.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Clonk Noise At Rear Of Boot

Having owned my 2010 Santa Fe less than a week, am learning and listening to any noises and things that go on with the car to make sure I am happy with it. There have been a couple of things that are easy sorts by the Dealer I bought it from, but I am a little worried about a Clonk noise coming from the rear of the boot and is this normal.

Although I didn't buy the car from Hyundai I still have the remainder of the 5 year warranty and the mileage is low, obviously the dealer I bought it from is the first person to speak too, but I think I should get Hyundai to check as they will no more about the car. It may be something simple but don't want to leave it and find out it could be a major problem, as I am worried about it being related to the Self Leveling Suspension as I know this is costly and obviously would want Hyundai to look into while under warranty.

When I am driving along and go over a rut in the road or a hump or something it's like something in the rear jumps and clonk as it comes back down.
Having just got the car the boot is empty and I haven't even found a load cover for it yet, the 2 rear seats are down, checked the tyres and they have been pumped up to the correct pressure.

I have had a look at the tools and I don't think it is anything moving around there and it would make more of a rattle rather than a clonk. I not sure if I have a spare wheel and whether it is located underneath the car as I can't get down underneath and have a look as I have difficulties with bending, kneeling etc.

If there is a problem with the suspension or shocks etc would it make this sort of noise, would I notice anything in the way it drives etc. The noise sounds a lot like it is inside but can't think what it would be, definitely a sort of sound like something is lifting off and clonking back down.

Camry :: 2007 LE Growling Noise From Rear Right Wheel

I have 2007 Camry LE with about 88K miles on it. I get the growling noise from the read right wheel, particularly when turning right. I can very clearly hear it inside. Interestingly, this happens only first couple of times after I pull it off from parking.

I recently had the brakes and rotors replaced but the noise did not start coming until a couple of weeks later. I suspected it must have something to do with tires so I got them rotated. But that didn't stop the noise.

Initially, when I first heard the noise about 2 months back, it was very seldom but now it's almost everyday. When I got the tires rotated, I was told that I needed the rear wheels aligned. (But if it's due to alignment issue, shouldn't be coming from both wheels?)
