I30 - Infiniti :: 1996 - Loose Rattling / Clacking Noise From Front End
I recently traded in my old '96 Infiniti for this great 2001 PT Cruiser. It drives great ,,mileage is at 76K and in very good condition .. except for this. Whenever I am driving and going over minor or major bumps I get a lot of loose RATTLING, clacking noise from the front end. Obviously from the tires bouncing up and down. Is this typical for this particular PT? I remember having that in an old Jeep of mine too. Very boxy sounding in the front.
My wife and I had traded both of our cars in..2009 Versa for a 2013 Chevy Sonic--1996 infiniti for a 2001 PT Cruiser
Audi - A4 :: Belly Pan Loose Causing Clattering / Rattling Noise
The belly pan on my AUDI A4 is loose and causing a clattering, rattling noise. I looked under the car and it looks like all of the screws are missing..... Can I fix this myself?
I saw that a lot of places online sell the screws but pricing was a bit confusing and I wanted to make sure it's something I can fix myself.
Prius (Gen 3) :: 2012 - Noise Like Loose Metal Scraping / Rattling On Pavement
My 2012 Plug-in spontaneously started making a metal scraping/rattling noise in the middle of a low-speed drive around the neighborhood yesterday. Seems to be coming from the left front wheel area. I've checked thoroughly under the car and in the front wheel wells for anything that could be dragging/rubbing, and I can't find a culprit there.
It occurs while coasting in EV mode, so not ICE/exhaust related. The car doesn't pull to one side or the other. Only 9K miles, so I wouldn't suspect a hub bearing or any other significant wear to be causing this.
Possible clue or red herring: the dealer replaced the the left front tire and did an alignment two days ago, and the noise occurred within 15 miles of driving after that service.
Prius (2010-12) :: Liftgate Making Rattling / Loose Noise On Closure
One thing that brought me here is the noise of my liftgate when being closed. When the liftgate contacts the latch it makes a rattle-y/loose sound. The trunk is locked and secure however the sound is very off-putting. I bought my 2010 Prius II as a CPO last year and never really thought much about the noise, only that it didn't sound very pretty.
However, I was recently sideswiped and was put in a 2013 Prius II and the liftgate closes with a solid thunk with no loose rattles. What could be causing this squeaky/rattle sound? I thought it could be my license plate frame since rentals typically don't use frames, but it seems really unlikely.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rattling Noise - Turbo To Downpipe Flange Loose
when I bought my 2003 gti 1.8t it had a small exhaust leak, I decided to investigate today and found that the downpipe flange and turbo flange was rattling around, there's almost 1/16" of play and it's making a rattling noise. I can't tighten the nuts on the studs any more but that might just be from them being seized in place. I'm getting a new gasket and studs and nuts and hopefully that will fix it?
View 3 RepliesLexus RX 2010-15 :: Squeaking / Loose Rattling And Banging Noise From Left Rear
This bad squeaking, loose rattling and (sometimes) banging noise from the left rear started happening about a couple weeks ago. I've removed all interior panels, even the exterior bumper thinking there was something loose and nothing. I suspect as a last resort it has to be the suspension despite the car having only 17k km.
What is strange is the rattle increases in sound volume and occurs more often the longer you drive and also if temperatures get colder.
In other words, if I have the car parked in my garage overnight (slightly above 0 C) and immediately drive next morning into sub-freezing temps and on bumpy roads, you don't hear it. But after 5-10 minutes of driving, you start to hear it and gets louder and more frequent.
Searched other threads and some have reported the shock as the problem for 2010/2011 models, but none had any sound or video to compare.
The video shows how bad it is : [URL] ....

View 6 RepliesCamry :: 2003 / 4 Cyl - Slight Rattling Noise When Start The Engine
I have a 2003 Camry 4 cylinder with ~143K. When I start the engine I can hear a slight rattling noise. When I rev the engine the noise seems to go away (or it is just masked). I noticed the noise after the check engine light came on twice and I had it checked by an exhaust shop. The code was for an O2 sensor, but the exhaust shop said everything looked fine to them. This was about 7K ago. I jacked the car up a few weeks ago to check the exhaust for anything obvious, but couldn't find anything loose to explain the rattle.
I hit the exhaust pipe with my fist and heard a rattle a few times, maybe from the catalytic converter, but I am not certain. Everything runs/operates fine, smooth acceleration, fuel economy is unchanged, engine temperature is unchanged, but the noise persists. I don't know if it is just normal due to age and nothing to really worry about, or if it is the first sign of trouble. I have also noticed that I am using about 1/2 quart of oil between changes, but I'm fairly certain that started before this noise.
Subaru - Outback :: 2017 - Engine Rattling Noise Upon Start
I just purchased a 2017 Outback. I noticed a rattling noise (like marbles) coming from the engine upon startup in the morning only. The noise goes away after a few seconds. To me it sounds like bearings rattling due to low oil pressure, but the dealer says that every Outback and Legacy does this. It has a timing chain and the engines use 0-20 synthetic oil. Is this normal.

Saab - 9-5 :: Faint Click Noise / Engine Does Not Crank At All When Trying To Restart
My 2001 Saab 9-5 has 156,000 miles and is generally in fine working condition. An irregularity in starting began about two months ago which will happen say once every twenty times the car is driven for more than twenty minutes or so.
The car always starts when the engine is cold, first time each day. After driving for awhile then stopping for a quick errand, more than 90% of the time the car will restart, less then 10 % of the time it does not. The engine does not crank at all, only a faint click noise. I can try starting again a number of times with the same noise and result.
However, after 20-25 minutes have passed the car will start as it normally should. Seems to me somehow the problem relates to the cooling off period. Does this make sense?
Is it a switch, a loose wire on the starter, internal wear on the starter motor? Is it a clue that it takes about the same amount of time before it will restart?
Prius (Gen 3) :: Tailgate Panel Always Loose And Rattling
I recently brought my 2011 in for its final service with a laundry list of issues, one of which was the tailgate panel that was always loose and rattling. Of course the dealer told me there was no problem, and it's always been difficult to isolate the source of rattles on this car since the entire car is a symphony of rattling plastic.
I looked into the tailgate panel more closely to find that the two plastic grab handles built into the tailgate panel were loose. I pulled the panel off to discover the root for the problem. The two plastic grab handles are sonically welded (melted) to the tailgate panel, (five welds per handle). Three of the five welds on each handle were fractured, (six out of ten welds had failed).
I took the panel back to the dealership and showed it to the service manager who miraculously concluded that the panel was defective, but it wasn't like that when they looked at it the day before.
Prius V :: Strange Rattling Sound Like Something Is Loose In Car

View 5 RepliesPhaeton :: At Start Up Rattling Noise
Set off for a long journey yesterday and a worrying rattling sound started up. Drove straight to a dealer to be told that a bolt had gone missing from the pulley that serves the water pump. I wonder what they could have done. They have done a temporary fix which enabled my 450-mile journey as they did not have pulley and bolts in stock but parts arrived today. So 8 am tomorrow it is back in for the permanent fix.
After about an hour of yesterday's journey I put wipers on at 70 mph and what turned out to be a torx set bit and holder flicked off wiper over car roof and lodged between boot lid and body (as I discovered when I arrived at destination). Cannot see any damage but dealer will check tomorrow also and he has held his hand up as the culprit after checking toolkit.
Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2000 - Bed Side Loose And Rattling
I have a 2000 Ranger step side and the bed side is loose and and I'm trying to figure out how to reattach it. It's loose towards the front of the bed on the passenger side right where the actual step is. Is there an attachment point underneath the the plastic step cover?

View 4 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Rattling Noise When First Start The Car
I own a MK4 Golf GTI which has recently started making a rattling noise when I first start the car (Perhaps cold weather?). It will continue for roughly a minute despite load (A/C, acceleration) before It stops and It won't happen again until the car has cooled down hours later. It's quite an unsettling noise and I would like to be set in the right direction.
After a couple hours online I'm leaning towards perhaps the belt tensioner being to blame? I haven't delved too deep into the noise but do believe it is from the left side of the motor. Can likely clarify on the weekend.
Is there anything to worry about? If so, where do I start? I myself was trying to fiddle around and see if the noise would happen at higher revs, which it seems to. [URL] .....
