Prius (2004-09) :: Three Short Honks When Powering Car On
109,000 miles into my 2009 Prius with no problems, I'm having an annoying issue with the alarm. Sometimes - about half the time, without any discernible reason - when I power the car on, it gives three rapid, very short honks. I can't relate it doing this to anything - doors can be open or closed, it can have sat for a week or have just been turned off, ect. I have the KARR factory alarm thing installed, but it seems to function normally.

When you turn the steering wheel, left or right, the horn honks at random stages of turn. Nothing long, just a short honk. If you stop the wheel where the honk happened, it just honks.

I have a 2007 Prius, package 6. It's always worked great, can't complain. I bought it in 2009 with 27,000 miles on it from the original owner.
I have always started the car by pressing the start button with my foot on the gas pedal. My key fob is in my pocket, I don't put it in the ignition key slot. I lock the car by pushing the button in the door handle from the outside. I unlock it by putting my hand on the door handle and pulling on it. My keys are always in my front pocket with nothing else in the pocket.
Yesterday, when I got in the car and pushed the ignition button, I got the symbol of a red key flashing with a line through it, seeming to be telling me I was trying to start the car without the key. I got my key out of my pocket and waved it around, and then the car started in the normal way, by pushing the ignition button, i put my keys back in my pocket. Went out, came back, everything seemed normal.
Today when I got in the car and pushed the ignition button, got the flashing red key symbol (and beeping sound) again. I got my keys out of my pocket and waved them in front of the dashboard but it was no dice. The car would not start. I put the fob in the ignition slot and the car then started. I went to my location, turned the car off, tried to turn it back on without the key in it but it still had the flashing beeping key picture on the otherwise dark dashboard. I tried to lock the car by pushing on the door handle button but there was no response. I opened the door and used the button on the inside of the door to lock the car and closed the door. i used the valet key, taking it out of the fob and using it to reopen the door. Pushing on the lock/unlock buttons on the fob had no effect.
When I got home, the car still would not respond wirelessly to the key fob. I got my spare key fob from the house and tried using it to start the car wirelessly. It had no effect.
I searched this forum and read about the button under the steering wheel. I went back to the car to search for the button. I saw the button, labeled with the word 'Key.' But before touching it, i tried starting the car keyless again, pushing the ignition button. It started normally. Everything worked normally, lock/unlock, ignition. Key fob not inserted into the slot. I decided not to do anything with the under steering wheel button.
I would like to ask whether this sounds like there is nothing wrong with the key fobs but there is some problem with the car internally.
Are there ways I can test that, by trying other things that would be affected by the battery, if the symptom comes back again? If there's an internal defect causing the problem rather than problem with the fob/s, would any of the causes be warranty repairs?
The car currently has about 67,000 miles on it.

Been having a problem starting the car (2010 T Spirit - 25k mileage RSH) in the mornings for about 3 weeks. When you power on, the dashboard lights up most options and the power light goes amber with no engine start.
This can take 5 or 6 attempts before getting the engine to start and then half the dashboard like the clock etc will not light up for that journey. Subsequent journeys that day are ok but the issue returns for the first start every day.

My wife has complained that the van with on occasion honk when she is driving it. It has never done this one me but I have to admit it is her car so I don't drive it nearly as much. She said it is usually at a stop sign or when she is going through a drive through or something like that. Just one short honk and nothing else. We have no other problems with the van right now believe it or not. It has had some other electrical issues but seems to be doing ok for now. The electric slider door has a mind of it own depending on the day. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I have kinda just gave up on it and let it do it's thing but the honking is embarrassing and I will have to figure out what it causing that.

A while back, my alarm started acting up. What triggered it but now my horn does a single honk whenever my car turns off, whenever I arm my alarm, or whenever I disarm my alarm. Before the problem, it would only hear the alarm chirp when arming and disarming. It would only honk when I pressed the arm button twice. Also, my alarm light is always flashing in increments of 2 and never stops.
It blinks when the car is off and while I'm driving. I've tried the trick to turn it on, off, then hit the button 6 times (also tried 3 and 8), I've held the button while turning the car on then off, I've tried holding the arm and disarm button at the same time......nothing. Also, I got the car used so I'm not sure if my alarm is factory or after market. I attached a few pictures to determine that.

I recently added factory remote start to my truck, installed the antenna, bought and programmed a new 4 button key and had the dealer activate the feature. That part was smooth. I have since bought another 4 button key and cannot get the head part to program. I am following the same steps as before, doors closed, cycle the door locks and leave unlocked with the button on the door. cycle the ignition 8 times, leaving in ON position (with original factory key). the door locks cycle on their own. When I push a button on ANY fob, the horn honks and nothing else happens. Any fob, the new unprogrammed FOB, the existing programmed FOBs, the horn honks. This tells me the new FOB is being read, but not retained.

I have a 2001 F350 and over the past few nights the horn has started honking once randomly. It always only honks once but will do it several times a night (may be more that I don't hear). I'm thinking that this has something to do with the alarm maybe? I can't afford to take it to the shop at the moment (nor any moments in the foreseeable future, come to think of it) and am hoping that its something that I can fix myself?
I'm having other miscellaneous electrical type issues, but don't know it there are related at all. For example, the power locks don't work (they try to, but don't seem to have enough power), the overhead console that digitally displays the outside temp/mpg/etc. stopped working suddenly and the lighter/power plug outlet stopped working, but I was able to fix this by replacing the fuse.

have an issue with my 03 trailblazer. i have the problem of no start when key turned to start position. actually nothing happens when the key is turned to start position. dash comes on when key is turned to on pos tho. took battery off and had it tested and it is at full charge. took starter off and had it tested and it passed. checked ignition relay cavities per this youtube video "Chevy Trailblazer no crank testing and information" and there is no light when touching the ground request cavity and turning the key to start position.

Trying methods found elsewhere on this site not working anymore. No matter how much wd-40 and door slamming I do, I am getting the 4 short honks on lock and 2 on unlock. No door ajar light and interior lights go off as normal so it doesn't seem to be door open sensor.

MY V8 Touareg with P+, Nav etc is in the shop today...My wife went to start it yesterday and the car completely went crazy...it would not start, the lights went crazy and finally the key was locked in the ignition....This is the second time this has happened...I'm getting pretty frustrated. Dealer was no support, they think we don't know how to start the car!
Anyway, looking into my State Lemon Law. Car is great, but don't want to spend $50K on a car that won't start and cause so many issues! Roadside has been called twice thus far. Tha car has 1,900 miles on it. The Tire gauge does not work, the memory seats don't work. I think the car is great, but too many issues.
Phaeton :: Key Stuck In Ignition / Car Will Not Start
I got a good deal on a 04 phaeton because of some electrical problems. I am starting the research to get it figured out, and there is a lot of info on the site which is great.
The problem is the key is stuck in the ignition (I got it out via the emergency release) and it can turn left and right and the car will not do anything
I put good batteries in the car since they were dead and there is no change.
My scanner (launch master) will not connect because I'm assuming I can't get the ignition key to switch into the "ON" position.
I love this car, but I don't love electrical problems!

Just disconnected battery to give a full charge because car sat for the winter and hood was propped open which killed the battery. Meanwhile I reconnected the battery and only the lights will come on. The car will not start with key in ignition. Don't know if there is a security issue or just what.

I've got a problem with my 93 ford escort. About a month ago things in it began to stop working. 1st the wipers and then the heater. and now the ignition won't start my car. It will allow it to turn over but it doesn't turn on the engine light before it starts to kick in. Bad key assembly or the whole switch? Or a relay ?

I have a 2.5 years old V6 Touareg with 56k miles. I went out of town for 5 days........Come back and the car is dead: meaning nothing is working, no electrical, nothing. I had to use the physical key to open the door lock. I then tried to start it - nothing and the key got locked in the ignition.
My question is - what can this be? A battery? If yes, how do I replace it? Any other resolutions? This never happened before in 56k miles. Not quite sure what to think. Is there a way to jump this car?
