Avalon 2005-12 :: 2006 - Rattling After Rear Shock Bushing Replacement?
So I have to replace them since I have this rattling in the rear and my mechanic has diagnosed it to be the rear bushings...
View 1 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Alignment Necessary After Rear Shock Replacement?
I just replaced front shocks and got the car aligned. Now I feel the difference in front to rear and want to change the rear shocks out too. I seem to remember someone suggesting under normal circumstances the Prius rear setup never gets aligned. Is this true?
View 4 RepliesSanta Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2011 - Front Shock Failure At 42,000 KMs
This car is turning out to be a huge disappointment. Bad battery right away, oil pressure switch, brake lamp switch, front driver seat guide rails broken and now premature shock failure.
I had taken the SF to get a tire plugged after vacation as I had picked up a nail. The car was a bit noise riding along the way home, but I just chalked it up to crap Manitoba roads. The tech who fixed my tire showed me the oil leaking from both front shocks.
Told me that the driver side was pretty much 100% pooched. 2011 with only 42,000 KMs. On top of the other things this car has needed, I am ready to trade it in for a truck. A truck will meet our needs much better.
Prius (Gen 4) :: 2016 With Rattle From Left Rear - Loose Shock?
My wife drove her new (2000 miles) Prius 4 home (300 miles) with a rattle from the left rear. Dealers were totally unresponsive - either put me on voice mail or said I had to wait a week for an appointment. The third dealer I called said I could bring it in and they might take a look at it. Five days later I have a new shock and a bill for the rental car. Not what I expected from Toyota! I noted that one other person on Priuschat had a problem with a loose rear shock.

View 19 RepliesSanta Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Strut / Shock Failure - Knocking Sound From Front
My 2008 Santa Fe (3.3 2WD) produces a knocking sound from the front every time I go on a bump while the wheel is turned. I can pretty much reproduce it at will. Occasionally, I hear the same sort knock from the rear as well, but I cannot confirm that it is consistent.
I do suspect that something is wrong with the struts. The only issue is that the car has 67k KM (41k miles), and to me, that seems a little early for that sort of thing to happen. My driving is pretty standard on standard roads, although winters up here tend to produce potholes that I sometimes cannot avoid.
I've had my struts fail on my last car (2000 Mazda Protege), but that was 9+ years old and with almost 3 times as much mileage on it.
Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Deteriorating Ride Quality At 6000 Miles - Premature Shock Failure?
We own not 1, but 2 2007 Passats. My wife's is a 2.0, mine is the 3.6. Both were purchased at the same time (4/07). Both have about 6000 miles on them. And both are going in for their first service at the end of this week.
I feel like what I'm experiencing with ride quality having deteriorated since the cars were new is happening in both cars. I don't know... maybe it's my imagination... but I don't think so.
I remember when the cars were new thinking that the ride was pretty sweet - very smooth, not jarring even over fairly rough road surfaces. I had just come out of an '05 Touareg V8 that I turned in early for the Passat (sold the boat; didn't need a tow vehicle any more and wanted better mileage - but loved the Touareg). Anyway I never really felt like the Touareg's ride degraded that much over the 30,000 miles I drove it.
But the way these Passats are riding right now is bothering me. My wife's car (the 2.0) is a bit worse than mine, I think. But I feel pretty sure what I'm talking about has happened (or worse yet, is perhaps still happening?) to both cars.
Prius (2010-12) :: Rear Left Wheel Bearing Failure
At 46,400 miles of gentle driving, my left wheel bearing failed on my 2010 Prius, which was not covered by warranty because it is not 'drive train'. I was told there was nothing I did or could have done to cause this. I have had 4 Toyotas, two with over 200,000 miles, and never had this serious a repair (that wasn't my fault!). Am I being unreasonable to think this is unusual? I'm wondering if this car is going to continue to be a problem.

I own a 05 XLT Screw 4x4. Dual rear shock set up? My truck drops in the rear when I load up my quads and attach my trailer. I could do an add a leaf but thought a dual shock setup might look and perform better. I am going to add traction bars also because I get a lot of hop when the bed is empty and I'm in the sand.

I found out the rear driver's side shock was leaking oil after I jacked up the car to take a look at exhaust options for the car. 3 of the 4 shock are clean and show no signs of oil.
Is this a defective shock or a pothole destroyed it?
Grand Prix :: 1999 GTP Rear Strut Shock Knocking
I have a 99' GTP with 199,000 miles. I drive the very bumpy roads of Chicago. Recently when I go over any small bump, large bump, or when I am going fast and break I get a knocking sound mostly out of the right rear wheel, a quieter knocking out of the left rear wheel. It just sounds like a dry knocking when you go over any little bump or inperfection in the road. I am assuming that it is the struts. I don't know if i can just replace the shock part for $50 something or if my problem needs to be solved by replacing the whole strut assembly which includes preassembled strut, coil spring, strut mount and strut bearing?

View 14 RepliesLexus GX 2004-09 :: 2003 - Rear Shock Absorber Broken
So, in changing a rotor today, I noticed the entire top bolt of my shock absorber (rear left) was sheared in half. I researched replacements and saw the staggering price tag. In 8 years with this car (2003 Gx470) I've never once changed the shock mode from sport to comfort or vice versa. Am I correct in assuming that I can by a decent aftermarket shock as a replacement and not hook up the electronics and only lose the ability to adjust the shock from the cabin? I will still retain the ability to raise or lower the car, correct? If so, what is a decent and affordable shock to purchase? Also, while I am in there, are there any recommended bushings or other things to replace to cut down on squeaking and other noises?
View 2 RepliesKia - Sedona - Mini - Van :: 2002 - Sound Coming From Rear Shock?
I have a 2002 Kia Sedona mini van with about 143,000 miles on it. It runs great outside of a noise I am getting from the rear driver side wheel. When ever I go over a bump I get a clank sound. Took it to the dealership and they told me it is due to shock, but that the shock is not bad. they said that a rubber piece on the shock and mounting area is missing and that the metal sound is coming from where that rubber piece would be. They took me and showed me and at the top of the shock where it attaches to the car there is no rubber and when they pushed the car up and down I could see the the two pieces of metal would hit and make the sound. The dealership said they saw nothing wrong with the shock itself and feel it is safe, however they were not sure how this rubber piece feel away.
Does this make any sense?

View 2 RepliesLexus LS 2007+ :: Squeaky Suspension On Rear Corner - Shock Absorber?
Just came back from a ride and since it's getting pretty warm here I decided to drive with open windows. At low speed I noticed a unusual squeak coming from the rear passenger wheel when I got over small potholes. This part of the car seems to shake really fast a few time before settling. I can also hear a drum like vibration in the car coming from that corner. I can feel an unusual bounce which take time to settle when it happen. I'm no expert but from what I read the usual suspect should be either a defective shock of broken control arm ? I'll get a nearby garage to take a look next week. Gotta admit, like some members pointed out, I'm surprised to see those kind of issues on a car which didn't even broke the 45000 miles mark yet... And that's for a car that I take really good care of and not used as a daily driver.
