Prius (Gen 2) :: Warning Lights With Codes Diagnosed
A few months back, my wife (2007 Prius) was telling me that she had some stuff going on with it. I found the diagnostic test for the 12 v battery and it failed. So I replaced the 12v and everything was fine until about two weeks ago. Two weeks ago, she got a check engine light. Then she stopped the car and when she fired back up again, the light was extinguished. So, I figured no big deal. Yesterday, she went to leave and the car was lit up like a Christmas tree. So she took my truck to work and left me a note about this. She figured I would drive my garage queen Vette... but I chose to drive the Prius to see if I could figure out some things, which I did.
Here is everything that I noticed thus far:
First, I will start with lights. Brake System Warning light is on, Check engine malfunction indicator is on, Red triangle with exclamation point Master warning light is on, VSC Vehicle stability control system warning light is on. Then on the tv screen panel, the Hybrid system warning light is on. I ran down to O'Reilly's to see what codes it pulled, and this is what I have: C0200 Right VSS, C0205 Left VSS, C1259 Regenerative Malfunction, C1310 Malfunction H/V System, P1121 Coolant flow control, X2 Valve Sensor Circuit stack, P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack, P3015 Battery Block 5 Becomes Weak, P3016 Battery Block 6 becomes weak, and then a few more repeats.
What I have looked at and what I have noticed/experienced thus far; At the beginning of the day yesterday, when stopped at a light, the engine would turn on and then shut off frequently (approx every 20 seconds). A lot more than normal. As of today, the engine just stays on constantly... even after the battery indicator shows full, it stays running. The battery cooling fan stays running. Sometimes the car lacks power at start out, When slowing down, I tried selecting the "B" as I know that it would normally work as a trans brake and regenerate power, it doesn't seem to be doing that and it seems as though the tranny doesn't know exactly what to do. I checked the 12v battery again through the diagnostic and it says it was at 12.2v so that should be good. I noticed that the battery indicator will show full and then just drop down to one bar and then go back up to full and stay at full for a while. Lastly, I saw the inverter check and I did that by turning the car on (ready on) and I can see the fluid moving around and I can feel it in the tube and the fluid level is good.
It sounds to me as if the ECM/ECU may be bad. Or maybe the HV battery. I was leaning towards the ECM/ECU just because of all of the different fluctuations, but with electrical stuff, it could very well be the battery.
Prius (Gen 2) :: C1203 And C1345 With Warning Lights Diagnosed
I have a 2005 Prius with 98,000 miles on the clock, two weeks ago, the engine check light came on and I plugged in a "V-Checker OBD II reader.
Read the code P0420 and reset. Don't get bogged down regarding the P0420 code as this is just background to what happened next. The P0420 code has not come on again, reset was done last week.
Removed the OBD reader and noticed the VSC+ABS+Braking+Handbrake lights on, car drives OK, braking not quite what was, notice kind of "afterthought" when the brake pedal released. The Ready light does not come on, but the car starts fine and drives . I am sure the OBD reader caused the VCS etc problem, because there was no issues in that area until the OBD reader used, and in the minute or so of plugging it in, the VSC lights are on.
Code now present are C1203 and C1345.
Tried the Pin TC + CH pin procedures without success. Took to an independent Toyota Specialist, he did manage to clear the lights, but they came back on within half a mile during test drive. Could not clear lights after that. He recommended changing the 12V battery, which we did, but did not clear lights.
Prius (Gen 1) :: Codes P3006, C1213, C1259 With Warning Lights Diagnosed
Here is my situation- back in 2014 I had a local mechanic replace my HV battery and 12V battery after the Red Triangle of Death. Well yesterday that triangle reared its ugly head again! (and cruise control stopped working) Since this mechanic has 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty on all parts and labor, I figured this should be covered. I drove my wife's car to work today, then after work drove the Prius over there to find them closed until Friday!
So I had the guys at Advanced Auto read the codes for me and got P3006, C1213, and C1259. I have done extensive reading and researching, much of it on this site on these codes, but my main question is this:
I commute about 20 miles one way, and on certain days my wife commutes 10 to 22 miles the opposite direction. There are 3 days we go opposite ways this week, and at least one that is completely unmanageable without 2 cars.
Prius (Gen 2) :: 2004 - Red Triangle And Hidden Code P3009-526
I picked up a 2004 Prius with 150k. It has no check engine light and no codes with a scangauge. I hooked it up to a mini-vci with techstream and found the following: P3009-526, C1310 and B1421. The car will only start if you reset codes, then after a few minutes of running the red triangle comes back.
View 10 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Warning Lights On / Code U0100 - ICE Does Not Fire Up
Driving home today, my prius threw the triangle and all the other warning lights. Scanned with my scan gauge got code u0100. I was only a mile from home so attempted to drive it. Car made it 1/4 mile and then died. I had it towed to the house and checked the grounding wires going to the engine and transaxle. The Tranaxle grounding wire was loose so i pushed it together tightly. The car now runs on main battery only, the ICE does not fire up. All warning lights are still present. Nav screen says problem. 12v is good.
View 15 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Warning Lights Appeared With Error Code P0a80
Bunch of warning lights appeared and the dealer said it's code P0a80 and they recommend replacing the battery. I'd like to try to fix this myself and would like to hear your thoughts...
Plan is to check the traction battery for corrosion and use a voltmeter to test the cells and replace if needed. Prius 2004, 158,000.
Prius (2004-09) :: Brake Code C1344 And Warning Lights Keeps Coming Back
I keep getting the C1344 and all the lights. I checked and changed the rear shoes and the light keeps coming back, although not immediately. It takes just a little while.
I didn't notice any signs of leaking fluid, though I was able to squeeze the LH wheel cylinder in pretty easily by squeezing on the top of the shoes. The drums were not scored and were in spec so I didn't turn them. I never cracked any brake lines loose.
Prius (2001-03) :: Error Code P3030 And P3009 - Bad Transmission?
Could a bad transmission cause error code P3030 and P3009?
This car has no other symptoms other than the Mil light and the check engine light.
Prius (2001-03) :: Way To Diagnose P3009 Error Code Source
The first step is to clear the P3009 trouble code by unhooking the 12V battery for a moment or using a code reader. Now turn the key on/ but NOT start/ready mode, wait 30 seconds and if the code comes back, the leak is in the battery case. If the code does not return, turn key to start to "ready mode" and immediately shift to neutral and stay this mode for 30 seconds. If the code returns, the leak is in the power cables or inverter. If the code did not set, shift to drive and if the code appears now (can take up to a minute or so), the leak is in the transaxle. This is something that can be done in a few minutes without a scan tool or "megger" while never removing any components and not leaving the driver seat.
Ideally you want 3009 in battery case. That might be fixable without buying anything, just take apart battery and clean bus bars etc. If your bus bars are really "gooey", new ones are available from the dealer for a couple hundred bucks. Inverter is harder to replace, transaxle is the hardest.
Prius (2001-03) :: Dreaded Code P3009 - Electrical Leak From Main Battery
A warning came on the display with the words "PS Main" and a picture of a battery. I took it to a dealer and he gave me the bad news: I allegedly need a new hybrid (main) battery. The diagnostic code was P3009--I didn't know about sub-codes, so I didn't ask if there were any. P3009 means that there is an electrical leak from the main battery.
View 9 RepliesPrius (Gen 1) :: Diagnosed 22 Code - AC Don't Work On Turning Fan Down
My 2003 with 150K miles has had the blinking A/C light problem for the past year or so. I ran the diagnosis, got the 22 code, so it seems the clutch needs to be adjusted or replaced. If I leave the A/C on Max with the fan on at Max, the A/C works fine (for at least as long as my daily commute, about 40 mins). Once I turn the fan down or turn Max off, the lights start blinking within 5-10 minutes and the A/C doesn't work. Is this consistent with the clutch problem?
View 5 RepliesPrius (Gen 4) :: Error Code, B1423 Diagnosed
Just used Carista to switch to a single beep when reversing. Whilst I was in the app, just out of curiosity, I checked for error codes. B1423 appeared. I didn't expect to see anything as the car is brand new.
View 8 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: CEL / Red Triangle With Exclamation - Code P0093 Diagnosed
I have around 68k miles on my 2009 Prius and just got a CEL, the Red Triangle with an exclamation point, an intermittently occurring VSC light, and an intermittently occurring yellow circle with an exclamation point on the upper dash display. I also have a car shaped icon with an exclamation point on my main display (ICE?). My scan tool shows P0093 as the only code.
View 19 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: Diagnosed Code P1116, Red Triangle And Headlight Icon
I got red triangle and headlight icon on the screen. I hooked OBD and It gave me error code P1116, I checked all my front, back lights are working fine.
View 19 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2007 - Error Code P0ac0, P0afa Diagnosed
Car was perfectly fine. Parked it in a parking spot, turned it off for a minute, started it back up, and BAM, Master Indicator Light is illuminated(not blinking), along with check engine light. (yellow, not blinking)
Code reader gives me these two codes: P0ac0 and P0afa
Prius (Gen 2) :: P0A80 Code - Warning Lights On The Dash
My 2007 Prius with 176k had the warning lights on the dash. I finally got the code read and it is the P0A80 code. The 12 volt battery seems good, it is about a year and a half old or so. That was the only code.
View 10 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2006 HV Battery Died - Warning Lights With Code Came On
Gen II Prius, 151000 miles, HV battery died (rapid charging / discharging, cooling fan on high constantly, etc) Installed remanufactured HV battery. Connect it all back up, test drive, get the triangle of death, VSC, amber (!), and MIL on MFD. Car continues to drive normally until shutdown, upon next startup lights still present and won't shift into D or R only N. Pull codes, POAA6 is showing.
Code doesn't reset with car in ign on (not ready) after 60 seconds, make car ready and shift immediately to N. Code resets after 30 sec. Have done this trouble shooting 4 times and code always resets with ready on and in N. This points to the HV 'leak' being either in the wiring harness or the inverter. What I can do next in order to figure out which one?
Prius (Gen 2) :: Error Code C2310, C2318 With Warning Lights Appeared
I actually just bought a used 2004 Prius with 207,011 miles on it from out of state. I had a car shipped to me by a flatbed trailer. I just got the car the last weekend. However, It has a yellow engine light and a big red triangle with an exclamation mark (!) on a dashboard, and a red car with ! on top left of a display screen.
I drove it to a DMV to get it registered and took it to Pep Boys near my place since I have to get it an emission inspection within 10 days of registration anyways.
They ran a diagnostic test and found 2 current error codes (C2310-open/short in battery circuit & C2318-low voltage error) and 1 history code (P0A80-hybrid battery pack needs replaced), so they didn’t perform the inspection; otherwise, it would have a failed record). They told me that the car has had problems before and the problems are about a hybrid transaxle and a hybrid battery pack. They also told me that I need to visit a Toyota dealer to get them fixed in order to pass the inspection, and they warned me that is going to cost me a large four digit probably . So, they suggested me to just trade it in because it is not worth repairing. They also told me that a dealer who sold me the car probably would have done something to the car, that’s why it didn’t illuminate any warning lights before.
I tried to gather as much information as I could, so I asked the shipper if he noticed any warning lights but he didn’t think so; one thing he noticed was the hybrid battery isn’t charged because the engine started every time he moved the car.
I plan to take a car to another auto shop near my place as well in order to have them double check the issues and give me a repair estimate before taking a long trip to Toyota dealer.
Prius (2004-09) :: AC Stops Blowing Cool Air / Dash Lights Up With Numerous Warning Lights
I had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.
