Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - Stopped Recharging The Batteries?
My 2006 Prius died this morning. I've never taken it to the dealer since buying it brand new until today. It was running great without any problems until this morning. It turned out, that the Exxon Mobil station that I routinely get gas from had DIESEL pumped into their 87 octane tanks the day before.
I was not alone. There are many other cars affected by the gas station delivery company's negligence. Fortunately, the delivery company admitted to the mistake and I was advised to take my car in and get it fixed and to later submit all repair receipts for claims submission. How long till I get reimbursed is anybody's guess.
Sad thing is, my car stopped recharging the batteries for some reason. I'm sure it is related to the diesel gasoline. The Toyota service manager made a note of the additional problem caused by the gas station's negligence. I was the 7th victim that came in to the dealership today.
Prius (2004-09) :: Hybrid Batteries Reads In Blue 3 - 4 Bars Down
I just bought a 2009 Prius from a dealer and the last 2 weeks I have noticed the hybrid batteries reads in the blue 3-4 bars down most of the time even after driving for awhile it goes up to the 2nd bar down (green) then when I drive for a couple of minutes it goes right back down. I also notice that I am NEVER using just hybrid motor power .The gas engine is constantly showing and the only time the power returns to the battery is when I take my foot off the gas completely or hitting the brakes.
When I am at a stop if I don't hold the brake down hard the hybrid motor shows running until I press further down on the brake pedal. I can't seem to get the car to a glide so I can less power to maintain speed and it seems like the CVT is in B mode. Also at higher speeds trying to pass it feels like the cvt is slipping.
I try to use a feather touch on the gas but can't see to find a point where the car will not use gas power constantly. I drove my boss's 07 and his gets like 4-5 mpgs better than my 09. His car has 130k and mine only has 95. His car can run and glide on hybrid motor and the gas engine is not constantly powering the vehicle like mine does. I get only 38-39 mpgs he gets like 44. We both drive about the same time on the road.

I have an 05 Prius that I bought used. It has 59K miles on it. Recently I took it to the dealer for an oil change. They told me it didn't need an oil change, but did need an air filter. Afterwards, the mileage dropped from about 47 around town to about 42. Had the oil changed a week later, and the mileage is now about 40 around town. The dipstick when cold shows a little above the full mark.
View 15 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2007 - Cannot Change To EV Mode Now
I just recently bought a 2007 priuswith 77k miles and really love it and just 3 days ago installed the EV switch (manual button, not the coastal one) because of my plans to get it to plug in in the near future, and it worked very nice until today. No matter what i do and when i press it, it just keeps saying "Cannot change to ev mode now" doesn't matter if i push it before the ICE warmup or after. its in the range where it should be working like plenty of battery, not pushing the accelerator at any time, under 34mph, and not while the ICE is running....it was in the mid 80's today which is cooler than last 2 days. I'm just not sure what to do anymore...I do have a check engine light on for 02 sensor but it has been on since I bought the car.

I have a 2008 Prius and have been thinking I should be changing the auxilliary battery soon as a preventative measure. I've changed plenty of batteries in other vehicles before but I was wondering if there's anything that's much different in these cars that I should be aware of?
View 9 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: How To Change Wiper Arm Position
My 2004 Prius has its wiper arms currently sitting a bit higher than they usually are, we originally purchased the car like this, it isn't a big issue, just annoying as the previous owner purposely used smaller wiper size so they don't obstruct the path and what not.
Anyhow, I want to replace the entire blade, but I want to buy the original size, thus adjusting the arms back to the normal position they are supposed to be in, how I can do this? From my understanding in other vehicles, there usually is a screw that you loosen up, and than adjust the arm as you wish, just not sure if this is the case with the Prius.

View 2 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Oil Change Light Stayed Lit Despite Resetting
I had the oil changed in my 2009 Prius but the "change oil" light stayed lit. Rather than taking it back in to the Jiffy Lube, I found instructions on this site for resetting the light (hold down odometer button while pressing on button twice, etc.) and the display did what it was supposed to--the numbers were replaced with dashes and it seemed like the system reset. But the oil light remained on. I tried it several times to no avail.
View 11 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Clicking Sound From Engine After Oil Change
I heard a light clicking noise at about 368-400 beats per minute coming from the engine during acceleration. It was hard to pinpoint and see if it went away since I use the engine so infrequently with pulse and glide, but it was definitely there. I believe it went away by the end of the trip, but was present closer to startup each time I drove today. I'll be able to confirm that tomorrow evening after driving more. It seemed to come from the front right of the engine compartment, i.e. from the ICE. It was not present during EV acceleration, glides, braking, or anything else besides ICE on pulse.
Background:
I just changed the oil this past weekend for the first time since buying the car. It was also my first oil change by myself ever, and I'm thus most suspicious of myself. So go ahead and ask the questions that you might feel would be too "stupid" for most people, I don't mind! I do feel confident I did everything right, a friend had shown me before, and I followed directions from PriusChat as well - but you never know.
I used a Toyota filter (90915-YZZF2) and Napa 5w-30 oil, non-synthetic, which I assumed was what the dealer had been using all those years (2007 model year, btw). I checked the dipstick after driving it the other day and the oil came up to just below the top dot as I wanted.
Mileage doesn't seem to be affected, last few days since the change probably low to mid 60 mpgs average over 150 miles. Perhaps this is something that comes up and "goes away" after some more miles?
Prius (2004-09) Fuel :: MPG Change After Battery Replaced
I have a 2005 Prius recently replaced the hybrid battery. Not so happy with it, my mpg b4 was 49-51 mpg, now I only get 40-45 mpg. I notice the car is a little weaker and the ICE rev higher everytime I accelerate.
View 5 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: How Soon To Get Oil Change After Maint Reqd Light Came On
I've put about 5000 miles on it since I picked it up from the dealership (used, so there are about 21,000 miles on it).
My Maint Reqd light has been blinking for about a week, and meant to take it in this weekend to get an oil change but had no time. This morning on the highway (I commute ~45 miles each way every day) the light comes on and stays on (which makes sense if the dealership resets the maintenance data when I bought it).
Normally I'd take it in for an oil change this afternoon, but that may not be possible. I know the light illuminates based on a mileage meter and not an engine condition (ie low oil).
It may be the case that I can't take it in until this weekend. I'm just wondering if it's wise to keep driving it this week knowing I need an oil change and that I'm likely to put ~450 miles on it. I checked my oil this morning and it doesn't seem terribly low.
Should I top up the oil to keep it humming until the weekend? Should I just drive, since driving it for a week won't be an issue?

View 19 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Airlift Coolant Change Failure
My 07 has pretty low miles but is going on 4+ years so I thought I would change the ENGINE coolant. Reading how many posters have struggled with this I thought I would be a smart guy and buy an Airlift which I have used before back in the day on strictly American cars if memory serves.
I had hoped to just hook the airlift up and suck the bulk of the coolant right out without opening any petcocks. Yeah right... That resulted in about 1/2 pint of pink foam and collapsed hoses.
Prius (2004-09) Fuel :: 2008 Touring - MPG Drops After Oil Change
I changed the oil on my 2008 Prius Touring in the weekend. I consulted the manual after the oil was changed. One mistake I made was to use 10W-30 instead 5W-30 recommended. The manual mentioned that it affects MPG with 10W-30. For the 270 miles trip I took right after, my average MPG dropped from ~46 to 45 highway. My short commute driving dropped from ~37 to 34. Comparison are made on the same roads with similar temperature and driving speed. Is that normal? Will it go back up after a while?
