Prius (Gen 2) :: Hybrid System Warning Light Popped Up - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
On my way home from work tonight, the master warning light and the check engine (malfunction indicator lamp) appeared on the dashboard, and the hybrid system warning light has popped up on the multi-informational display.

So this morning when i started up my car the cel came on. The car seems to be running fine so i decided id try to go to work and hope for the best. Well nothing happened and i made it to work fine, but i noticed i was always regenerating power. My drive is 45 miles all freeway and little traffic most the drive.. ive never had this happen on my drive to work and ive had the car for a year now. Could the hybrid battery be dying? i have a cheap scan tool but that doesnt mean i will get the correct reading...

View 15 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Check Engine / Triangle And Hybrid Warning Light Came On
Possible hybrid battery failure in my 2004 Prius (96K miles).
Sunday before last, the check engine light, warning triangle, and hybrid warning light came on when I started my car at the grocery store.
Because I was close to home, I drove home and the car functioned completely normally. The next morning, when I started the car, the same warning lights appeared. However, when I tried starting my car with the headlights off (I always leave them on), no warning lights appeared.
I took my car to an independent mechanic. This is their written report:
"Found multiple check engine codes, P3000, sub code 123, V0100 sub code 211/330. These codes are set when high voltage control detects a malfunction in battery pack/ECU assembly. To check battery pack we took vehicle out on a test drive while monitoring the cells in the battery pack. Found that they are all weak and drop fast when battery is put under a load. Code C2318 is a low voltage error/power supply malfunction code with the auxiliary battery. The voltage spec for setting the code is 9.3 volts, this battery is less than 9.2 volts."
In conversation, the mechanic also told me there was significant voltage variation across the cells in the hybrid battery.
I then took my car to the dealer to try to confirm this analysis. They were unable to read any codes because the independent shop apparently cleared them. The dealer was unable/unwilling to do more than read the codes to diagnose the problem. (Indeed, they seemed surprised that the independent mechanic could monitor the cells in the pack.) All they did was to drive the car around some more to see if the check engine light would come on. It did not.
The car has been driven 80 miles since the warning lights last appeared and appears to be behaving normally. From your perspective, does the report from the independent mechanic make sense and is it believable? And is their test under load definitive of a hybrid battery problem? Could the results be affected by the low auxiliary battery? Also, if I do have a hybrid battery problem, what are the chances of being suddenly thrown into limp mode while driving it?
Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Check Engine Light Popped Up On RX350
My 2007 RX350 popped the check engine light. Stopped at an auto parts store and read the codes. They were:
P0300 P0301 P0302 P0303 P0304 P0305 P0306
C0215 C1201 C01223
U0073 UI0123 U0124 U0125
I am most concerned with the P03xx codes. Could this be one common part? I'm on the road about 1500 miles from home.
Prius (Gen 1) :: Warning Icon And Check Engine Light Popped Up Upon Engine Start-up
Recently there has been a series of problems popping up with the Prius. Its a 2003 model year.
- About four nights ago the warning icon and check engine light (picture below) popped up upon engine start-up and i noticed a weird idle. It seemed to idle rough. After about 20 seconds of idling the engine would shut off. After about 10 minutes and 6 or 7 attempts to restart the engine the warning lights disappeared and idle seemed to be restored.
- The afternoon after that the same warning icon and check engine light popped up along with the rough idle. After about 10 minutes and 6 or 7 attempts to restart the engine the warning lights disappeared and idle seemed to be restored.
- After this incident it seems like the vehicle is getting bad gas mileage. The picture below shows me getting an average of 25mpg. I was driving very conservatively. Driving the same way i usually do, i usually get 45-50mpg. The vehicle seems to be charging the battery more than usual.
Prius (2001-03) :: Triangle / Check Engine Light Popped On When Driving - Code P3006
I have a 2001 Prius with 210,000 miles. The inverter and traction battery were replaced last year. I started getting triangle and check engine lights about a month ago and the scan tool read p3191 p3006 p0300. The car would barely start in the mornings and the dash lights would be dim. I replaced the 12v aux battery today and all the symptoms went away. Driving home the triangle/check engine light popped on again and I stopped at Orielly's to use their scan tool. It now only reads P3006. I called a local mechanic who suggested to drive it a bit and clear the codes because the battery needed to equalize. Is this true?
View 8 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Hybrid System Malfunction Indicator And Gas Engine Won't Stay On
I have a 2008 Prius with 106,000+ miles on it. It was running fine till 2 days ago, I didn't start it yesterday and today when i went to start it, I get the Hybrid System Malfunction light, along with check engine, the red triangle and TPMS light. The gas engine tries to start up, then 1 second later makes a grinding noise and turns off.
I am in Toronto and its cold, but not THAT cold yet. So I am doubtful its temperature related. I checked the fluids and they all seem to be sufficient (engine oil, radiator fluid, power steering fluid). I didn't notice any leaks under the vehicle either.
Prius (Gen 1) :: Check Engine Light Turned On - HV ECU Malfunction
This morning, I tried to start the 2003 Prius and got a 'check engine' light and nothing. The cabin lights were bright so the 12V looked OK. After three tries, I used the VOM and measured 12.55 V on the battery. But the traction battery level looked unusually low.
So I tried again and it started. Using the ScanGauge, no codes were displayed. So I turned the car off and on three times and cleared the "check engine" light. Then I connected the Auto Ingenuity and read out:
P1636 - HV ECU Malfunction on the HV ECU to ECM bus.
C1213 - HV ECU Communication Circuit Malfunction between HV ECU and Brake ECU
P3002 - HV ECU Communication Malfunction on the HV ECU to Battery ECU
So it looks like there was an HV ECU problem that 'cleared while testing.' Certainly it makes sense to inspect the HV ECU connectors and re-seat them and clean out any debris.
Prius PHEV Plug-In :: Check Engine (Malfunction Indicator Light)
Yesterday, I was driving home in EV mode, PHEV on, about 80°F, no hills, not accelerating, SOC about 4 bars, about 1/2 mile out, when it dropped out of EV mode, and then I got the red triangle and the check engine light. Today I grabbed the code with an OBD2 reader, and got this:
Freeze Frame Information:
1. DTC for which Freeze Frame was Stored - P0A92.
2. Engine Coolant Temp - 138.20 °F.
3. Engine RPM - 1,888.00 Rpm.
4. Vehicle Speed Sensor - 14.91 Mph.
5. Intake Air Temperature - 96.80 °F.
6. Time Since Engine Start - 101 Sec.
7. # Warm-ups since DTC Cleared - 74.
8. Distance since DTC Cleared - 706.50 Mi.
9. Control Module Voltage - 13.69 V.
10. Ambient Air Temperature - 80.60 °F.
11. Accelerator Pedal Position D - 30.98 %.
12. Accelerator Pedal Position E - 46.67 %.
13. Time since DTC Cleared - 30 Hr32sec.
Does this happen because it's in EV mode? Do I just have to put up with it every so often? (This is the second time it happened.)
Prius (Gen 2) :: Replaced Hybrid Battery Now Only Check Engine Light On
I just switched out my hybrid battery and put in a brand new one. Now, the car isn't doing anything and all that's on is the check engine light. What now? I was told I had to tow it to Toyota and have them reset the computer. Sound right?
View 7 RepliesPrius (2001-03) :: Hybrid Warning With Check Engine Light On
I have a problem with my 2002 prius. I was driving home from work when all of a sudden my Hybrid Warning light came on with the check engine light on. On the screen, it gives me a (PS, Battery, and ! ) and the "!" was the one lighting up. The engine was roughing up sounds like it was gonna stop itself so I pulled over to the side and it turned off by itself without me doing anything except to put it on park. Then, i took out my keys and tried restarting it and all i heard was the "Ready" beep but not the engine and it won't move when i step on the pedal. After waiting for 10 mins., i tried restarting it and it worked i drove away and got home safely with all the warning lights i mentioned earlier still on. (Note: i was driving w/ the A/C on because it was hot outside..around 90s, also it was not overheating nor it was any battery problem because all the electrical were working properly.)

Just popped on at exactly 97,600k, What could be some of the potential snafu's? Or is it just more preventative as it needs proper service. Will be taking it to Dealer, but just curious as to what it could be.

My check engine light came on, I took the car to my usual mechanic, and he said the codes returned indicated that two cells in the batter were bad. (I just called to get the codes, but he's out of the office for about 30 minutes on a test drive...)

View 7 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Check Engine Light P0A93 - Hybrid Overheat Alerts
Gen3 Prius. Once it turned 100k miles I took it in for an inverter coolant change per the maintenance schedule. The dealer charged $109 for this and the car had absolutely no issues prior. Got the coolant changed on 7/23 and then drove it short distances in town for two weeks with no issues. Once I drove it on weekend longer road trip got a check engine light P0A93 "inverter A cooling system performance". Shortly there after started getting hybrid overheat alerts and pulled over to let it cool.
I checked the inverter coolant reservoir and it was still above full. After letting things cool, I turned it back on and listened to the water pump. Seemed to be running fine, heard it clearly with my ear up to a long screw driver, touching the pump. Noticed that the hose leading to the pump was vibrating but the return hose out of the inverted was not. Also no turbulence in the reservoir. My guess is that they didn't bleed air out of the system.
Passat (B5) :: Check Engine Light Popped On - PO430 Code
Have a 2001 V6. Notice a check engine light popped on and thats the code I got. I do have a custom cat back exhaust. Left both cats on there just took out rear muffler and resonator and then put in glass pack. Wondering if this is something that is cause by the catback exhaust? I have had the exhaust on for some time, few hundred miles. How to replace this?
View 13 RepliesHybrid-repair - Honda - Accord - Failure - Batteries :: 2004 - IMA And Check Engine Light Went On
I have a Honda Accord 2004 Hybrid with 85,000 miles on it. My IMA and check engine light went on less than 2 months ago, and the dealer replaced the starter battery and it was "fixed". Less than 2 months later the same thing happened and the dealer claims that the hybrid battery is failing, need to replace it, and they can't do this anyhow because the part is backordered "indefinitely". Honda extended the hybrid battery to 80,000 miles but you are over the limit. So here's my question:
1. Can the car be driven without the hybrid battery, just using gas engine, without risk of getting stuck somewhere?
2. Is there any other remedy that would be less costly?
3. Was this a known problem that I should have been warned about when I bought the car.
