Phaeton :: Navigation Functioning Fine But Map Does Not Display On Center Unit

As I was driving to work this morning, I noted that the map does not display on my center unit... no error messages, just a gray screen. Interestingly, the navigation functions seem to work just fine, just no map display.

I just had the KESSY unit replaced in my car last week. I don't know if that is related to my new problem, but thought I would mention it on the chance that it is relevant. Notably, however, it seemed to work fine when I got it back form the dealer. What the problem may be?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Daylight Sensor On Dash Does Not Seem To Be Functioning

I was driving into the night a couple days ago and noticed first that the dash lights are not working. As it got darker I then noticed that my tail lights and running lights were also not working. I have a 2002 F250 powerstroke extended cab. I pulled the fuse panel cover off but can't find a blown fuse.

What fuse number would be suspect, and also if there may be a bad relay in the mix? The daylight sensor on the dash does not seem to be functioning either. In good light the headlights stay on (when switched to automatic mode) no matter if it is covered or not when the ignition is on.

I have an 06 phaeton which runs perfectly but driving to work the picture of a yellow engine came on and does not go out. I tried turning off the engine and restarting it but still it remains lit, steady. the owners manual does not state what this is other than a "malfunction indicator".

Do the outboard vents close like the vents around the clock? My center one opens and closes with the "need' of the A/C system, but the outboard ones are only open.

Phaeton :: 2004 - Mystery Noise Under Dash

I have a recently purchased 2004 Phaeton V8 that has developed a mystery noise under the dash. It occurs when the engine is running, and sounds like an electric motor with a bad bearing or bushing. About 15 seconds after starting the engine, it cycles a couple times, then comes on constantly. I stopped by the local VW dealer and they ran some diagnostics to see if any codes were present. There were none. Since I was about to head out on a short trip, and the VW tech said everything was showing fine, I decided to have it looked at further upon my return. But, later that day I did some more snooping with a stethoscope, then dug a bit under the hood.

The noise seems to be coming from what appears to be a solenoid actuated valve that is probably attached to a pump. I went back to the dealer with photos and this new information - more diagnostics were run, and the tech went to look up the part. It didn't show on his diagram, so more research is being done as to what it is. In the meantime, what this is? I think it's some sort of valve for diverting heat between front and rear or left and right. Here are a couple photos - a distant one to show its location relative to the engine, and a close up. Hopefully I can get it serviced or swapped out in the next week or so when I have the 80k service done.

Phaeton :: Completely Turning Off Dash Lights?

Is there any way to turn the dash lights completely out? I do a lot of night driving and would like to have complete darkness in the cabin. I'm able to do this in my pickup and find that I'm able to see deer, and other critters much easier without dash lights. Yes, it's important to see my speed, but most of my miles are cruise control. I also have an iPhone app that provides a brightness adjustable heads up display.

Phaeton :: All The Dash Lights Activate But The Starter Won't Crank

I drove to work yesterday, all was fine. Got in the car at lunch time and NO START!! No "parallel" start!!! the car "wakes up", the wheel and tranny unlock, all the dash lights activate but the starter will not crank!!. I did hear 4 or 5 clicks coming from under the car on the first attempt but none after, this morning I heard the same clicks in the first start attempt then nothing after. Here is a scan:

Phaeton :: Transmission Slipping / Gear Would Disappear Off The Dash When Going Into 6th

My issue is that the car (04 V8 6speed 210k miles) will be in 6th gear or 5th going into 6th and the gear would disappear off the dash and the car would act like it's in neutral, RPM's shoot up cause i'm on the gas. When I get off the gas and let the car return to idle it figured out what gear it was in and started running normal again.

Phaeton :: Dash Lights Flicker Sometimes While The Engine Is Running

The issue being that my interior, tail and sometimes dash lights have begun to flicker while the engine is running. It's noticeably worse upon cold start, however, once the engine warms up the flickering improves a bit. Also noteworthy, is just after starting the voltmeter jumps around between 14-14.5 volts. When the car idles down it settles at 14. My left side battery is sitting at 5 years old and when just the electronics are on it hovers around 13 volts. Am I looking at a failing alternator or voltage reg? Or perhaps a loose connection or iffy fuse or ground somewhere. The car does not idle roughly and I am not hearing or smelling anything that isn't normal. I just had both vcg, valve body, and tie rod ends done. I do not have a vag yet, but I was wondering if there is any for of troubleshooting I can do before she goes back in?

Phaeton :: 2004 - All Gear Shift Lights On At One Time On Dash

Feb. 2, 2010, I had my '04 Phaeton in for service (88,997 mi) because it would not start. After diagnosis, found faulty brake switch and shifter mechanism. Removed and replaced brake switch, shifter assy, and PRNDL sensor. On Feb. 17, '10, after I started car, it sounded like it was in wrong gear and all drives were lit on dash. Turned off, started again and everything was OK. Called service tech to let him know; he said he would notify mechanic.

On Fri., 19 Mar. '10 at around 2:15 p.m., was driving and noticed again that all drive lights were lit on dash. Pulled off road, turned off motor, started again, and everything seemed OK. Went farther down road, entered super highway, pressed accel. to pass tractor-trailer, only to notice all gears were again lit, as well as a new engine outline (in orange). As I was passing the truck, car surged forward and then made a loud clunk, I drove at 60 on the 70 mph rd. to get to rest area. Turned off motor, looked in manual and it stated car should be taken to dealer. Since it was still "drivable" and I didn't need a tow, I tried calling the dealer 4 times, but only got through to an answering machine. I decided to take car to dealer.

When I arrived, I spoke to the only service writer at the desk, and he was new. Told me they were too busy to take my car that day. I asked to speak to VW service manager, and he said I should not drive car. Car now has 91,509 mi.

I was wondering, why all gear lights keep coming on at the same time, and why the car feels like it has to shift to the next gear. I am thinking the repairs on Feb.2 were not complete.

Phaeton :: Transmission Stuck In 2nd - Dash Display Solid Orange

I have had this 2004 Phaeton since 2006. No problems and only 72k miles. Over the last month I have had three occasions where upon start the gear display [PRNDS] in the center display of the dash board lights up solid orange (unlike the orange boarder with clear inside). The car shifts into reverse and into drive but seems to stay stuck in 2nd gear.

This is now happening about 50% of the time I start the car. When the display is normal the car and transmission appear fine.

Phaeton :: Washer Fluid Low Warning Popped Up On Dash - Bottle Leaking

Just got in the car and the washer fluid low warning popped up on the dash. As I'm refilling it and get towards the washer bottle being full I see it leaking out the bottom of the car. The car hasn't had any impacts and it's mild here at the moment so the bottle hasn't frozen and cracked but seems to have just started out the blue. Otherwise, swap the washer bottle? I seem to recall seeing it when replacing one of my horns and can't imagine it's much of a job but you never know!

Phaeton :: Check Brake Lights Warning Plus Beep On The Dash When Braking

How the rear, high center mounted brake light (ie "3rd brake light") intermittently lights individual bulbs, but never all at once. It was also causing an annoying "Check Brake Lights" warning plus beep on the dash (on every brake). Till I get it sorted I simply disconnected the 3rd brake light which completely turned it off and just gave me one warning/beep (instead of lots of them).

I spoke to VW about it yesterday and wasnt impressed by their attitude, so last night I tried plugging it back in to see if it was still the same now that my battery should be topped up due to change of house and longer trips. To my surprise at first it worked perfectly, all bulbs lit up.

However the more I tested, the less lights lit up. It was quite strange, they would "dance" on an off right in front of me. Wiggling the wiring had a small effect, but it didnt seem to be a wiring issue. So I plugged it out and left it was it was (disabled). However to my annoyance on my trip in today, I start getting repeated "Check Brake Light" warnings beeps (remember, its disconnected so it should do it once only) and even more irritating every time the warning came up on the dash the front left headlamp would flash on and off once! What the hell is going on with the lighting system!

After having the car "plugged in", it appears that one of the intake manifold swirl flaps isn't always returning to it's lower stop (fault P1018). The mechanic suggested that the actuator arm may be caked in debris, and that cleaning it and manually working it a few times should fix the problem?

Phaeton :: 2004 - Brake Pedal Goes To The Floor / Red Dash Lights Flashing

2004 with 214000 miles. Brake pedal goes to the floor, red dash lights are flashing, I just added a container of brake fluid and still no pressure at the pedal. I'm guessing master cylinder.

My question is: Even though my brake pedal goes directly to the floor, how am I getting the car to stop at the very end of the push? Do the brakes somehow work as a fail-safe even the the hydrolics are basically toast? I know that's a long shot, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been shocked over systems in this car.

Phaeton :: Check Brake Light Warning Popping Up On Dash With A Small Beep

I have a very annoying "check brake light" warning popping up in my dash with a small beep every time I brake. It seems that some of the LEDs are sometimes not illuminated but in a sort of varying configuration. Is this possibly a connector issue? (where are the wires coming from?)

Do I need to replace the LED-bar as a whole or can it be mended in subunits?

When I have to work on the light, do I REALLY have to remove the entire backseat and hatshelf (as WillemBal did to get rid of a fly that was stuck there!) or are there less invasive procedures that can be performed?

Volvo :: Radio Not Functioning

I recently purchased a used 2005 XC90. The vehicle was purchased with the radio not functioning. When pressing power knob the display would briefly show (3 sec) "Premium Sound" then go blank. In last 2K miles driving, the radio suddenly turned on (about 3 separate cases) and functioned fine (on/off, channel changing, audio controls, 6 CD changing, etc). It would remain functioning until car was turned off. Wierd part is if I turned ignition immediately back on, the radio came back on, but if car sat for approx 5 minutes or more, then radio returned to its non-functioning state.
