Honda - Cr-v :: Maintenance Reminder Oil Change Schedule
The mainteance reminder on my 2008 CRV allows me to go 12,000 miles between changes which seems crazy long on a mix of city/highway driving in extreme conditions in MN. Should I trust this thing? What kind of algorithm do they use? How hot/cold it's been?
View 14 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: High Coolant Temperature Warning After Maintenance Work
I was driving my 2007 Prius on the freeway this morning after picking it up from my mechanic and the high coolant temperature warning light came on for ~4-5 seconds but then disappeared. I was able to safely drive it another 5 miles to work and park. My mechanic changed the engine and transaxle fluids in my car (along with pcv valve and serpentine belt replacement, engine oil and filter change) just before, so we think this could have been due to an air pocket in the coolant system. I will need to check the coolant level once the engine has cooled down and refill if necessary. I plan on driving it around locally before going on the freeway in case the warning comes on again.
View 11 RepliesInfiniti - G35 :: Maintenance Intervals For Ultra Low Mileage
It's been 6 months since we've bought our Nissan Leaf, and we've concluded that we'll likely be driving our gas burner (2008 Infiniti G35x, 30K miles) only about 1,000 miles per year, about half of which highway and half on once-a-month trips around town to keep the battery charged, tires round, etc. The owner's manual indicates oil changes every 3 or 6 months (3750 or 7500 miles), depending on whether one follows schedule 1 or 2 (the former for short trips, freezing weather). This is presumably based on the synthetic blend the dealers use; we use full synthetic. If I follow the former, then that will mean changing full synthetic oil every 250 miles, about every three times the car is driven; that seems clearly crazy. Even every 6 months seems very frequent. The car is garage kept, so it's not clear to me how having the oil sitting in the crankcase is terribly different than it sitting in the bottles it's shipped in. Note that I'm not really trying to save money here, but rather the time and trouble to do this.

View 12 RepliesPrius (2010-12) Fuel :: Mileage Dropped After Maintenance
I have 2600 miles on my 2012 mdl II. A month old. I have been averaging 47.5mpg since day one based on miles driven and gas put back in tank at each fill up. I have used only Mobil bottom 87 oct gas.Last fill up got me 48.2, very nice, then I filled up with mid grade 89 oct as it was all I could get then. The next day I was in the dealer for my 1000 mile checkup. when I got out my battery was down to 25%, okay no biggie. Then from there on out I notice my mpg changed alot. The comps used to read 49.1-50.1. Now it reads 42.2-44.1. I drive the same way and my 85 mile round trip to work hasn't changed. My first fill up since the dealer, got me 45.0 mpg. wow a big drop off.
View 4 RepliesPhaeton :: 2005 - What Kind Of Maintenance
What kind of maintenance should I do for my Phaeton? It is a 2005 model, V8, 4.2L. Currently has the mileage of 116K, out of warranty. I am going to do the oil change in about 10 days. At that time, I also want to do some regular examination for my car.
I am kind of worrying my transmission system, should I check it? Or, what other parts should I check for a Phaeton at a mileage of 116K? For this month, I have already changed my power steering pump for 1k CDN and left headlight for 450CDN
I really want to take good care of my CAR and try to spend less money on repairing it.

I just bought my Phaeton on tuesday. It is a 2004 V8 and the suspension is normal in the back, but the front is way too high. I have heard that many people are switching to the nitrogen in tires as it is to improve gas mileage. I know they offered it at the Lexus dealership, but I never took advantage of it.
Of course, the phaeton is not going to get the mpg as an echo or aveo even with the tires, but I am just curious...
Elantra XD (2001-06) :: High Fuel Consumption And Preventive Maintenance
I have a 2002 Elantra GT, is consuming 22 miles per gallon, one of these days the car was alarmed with a check engine, the mechanic checks to see if he had a loose wire, then removed the battery, put it on again and check engine disappeared. Following this, the car is doing 30 miles per gallon. After 5 hours the alarm appeared again, we scan the car and gave the code P0420. These days the car has been decreasing again the miles per gallon.
I bought the car with 186.000 miles but the person who sold me the car said he had 68.000 miles, the board was stolen and damaged something, then had to buy a Yonker the board and that board came with the mileage, is this possible?
What is suggested to improve the fuel consumption?
It is possible to know how much mileage the car has traveled in reality?
With so many miles traveled, which recommended preventive maintenance?
This error code says that the catalyst has to be replaced but can also be a leak or may be some of the oxygen sensors.
Phaeton :: Center Display Could Show Digitally Mileage?
Near the speedometer and gauge cluster, I've flipped through the menus using the steering wheel controls and one option I see is speed.
I was under the impression I could see my actual speed digitally displayed. But it seems to show in small print my average speed. Is there a way to make it digitally show my speed?

View 19 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Is Gen III Battery Better Than Gen II For High Mileage?
I am in the market for a used Gen III regular Prius. I know that battery in Gen III is smaller in size and weight, so energy density is greater. That's great. But I wonder if you've seen high mileage (>200K) Gen III owners experience battery performance deterioration, like someone experienced in Gen II.
My 2004 with 220K miles only get 44mpg in this summer temp. (I drive it a little bit aggressive, use AC, and don't care much about hypermilling) I think at least partly it is due to weaker HV Battery. I can clearly feel that now it is easier for engine to rev very hard when accelerate at 50 mph. That's not the case before.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Schedule For Changing Of Cabin And Engine Filters - Rotating Tires
I own a 2008 Prius and I have been taking it to the dealer for service because it seems like non-Toyota shops don't know how to economically service the Prius.I'm seeing that the dealer I go to also seems to want to change the filters and rotate the tires at every service and this really increases the cost well above a normal oil change price.
How often have people really been changing the engine filter; cabin filter; and rotating tires? How often is this really necessary? I'm at 108000 miles now.
Prius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Mileage Has Dropped Significantly To High 20s / Low 30s
The last few days with snow and temps dipping below, my mileage has dropped significantly to high 20s/low 30s. I understand that (a) I park my car outside, (b) warm-up my car during the time I clean the snow, (c) no EBH, (d) no grill blocking, and (e) my drive to work is only ~15 miles round trip, but still mileage in the high 20s/low 30s is lousy, even lower than my break-in mileage (30s) that occurred in Jan. Even, my 1995 Corolla with 150k miles also gives about mid-20s during the winter with identical driving styles and conditions. So what's with the Prius?
View 19 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: Poor Gas Mileage And Transmission Not Going To High Gear?
My 08 has been getting poor mileage for the past 3 weeks or so ..... I tried a "push the power button and trip reset shift to reverse to eliminate the backup beep" mod and it did not work. However I find now that I cannot get my MPG average above 42. When I tried the mod the odometer went immediately to all bars and then the bar indicators went out one by one until the regular odometer reading came on .... I'm wondering if doing that also set the car into another "mode" where the tranny will not shift to a higher gear???? So symptoms are constant engine running when cruising to a stop and after 20-30 seconds the motor will shut off .... and while driving on the highway the engine will pick up at least 1000 - 1500 rpms just by adjusting the accelerator a smudge .....

I have a 2008 Toyota Camry XLE V6 with 110K miles in great condition! I'm at the Toyota dealership for oil change and tire rotation. I know I can get that any where but convenience is more important this morning.
I asked the attendant if they would use high mileage oil. She said "my guys do not believe in using high mileage oil". She did not know why they "believed" this way. They just use what Toyota recommends or synthetic oil she said.
High mileage oil has any value?
Ford - Focus :: 2000 - Reduced Mileage At High Altitude
About a year and a half ago I moved from Chicago (500 feet above sea level) to Morelia, Mexico (6,200 feet above sea level). My gas mileage on my 2000 Ford Focus has plummeted, I used to get anywhere from 22 to 26 miles to the gallon around town in Chicago but I am lucky to get 14 or 15 here. Is it simply a function of altitude? I have a good mechanic, keep everything tuned up and in good shape.

We have a 2008 Mariner AWD with the V6 it has 200+k miles on it and it's been an awesome little SUV. i want the same quality in my next vehicle too.
