Prius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Mileage Has Dropped To 35 MPG
2011 Prius for wife. Mileage has always been upper 40s to low 50s until the last week or so, now she is seeing 35 mpg displayed.
I have asked for a check at fill up. I just pulled the car out to wash it and noticed the engine came on right away, same when I put it back into the garage. In the past we would get part way down the driveway before the engine came on. Also did a code check and no codes found
What are the approximate outside air temps? 40s am 70s pm.
Prius C Fuel :: Mileage Dropped From 45 To 40 Mpg
I've had my car going at 45 mpg the past 2 years. I just hit my 45k mileage mark. I drive mostly on the highway to work so getting 45 mpg is pretty good for me. This last few fill ups, I noticed my gas mileage has gone down to 40 mpg. I thought it was a mistake if it was just once but the last 7 fill ups has been that way. It just went down all of a sudden and has stayed that way.
View 3 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 3.6 Fuel Economy Dropped Significantly After 5k Service?
Ok, so I was already getting pretty bad fuel economy from my 3.6 4motion wagon (14/24 city/highway). so last week I take it in to the dealer for 5k oil service. now after the service I get 10/18 (city/highway)!!!!
Car seems to run fine, but for some reason the fuel economy has dropped significantly. Most people on here say they get better economy after the 5k service.
Now the car is at the dealer for a few days for them to check it out. Gave me a old hyundai for a loaner.
Prius (2010-12) Fuel :: Mileage Dropped After Maintenance
I have 2600 miles on my 2012 mdl II. A month old. I have been averaging 47.5mpg since day one based on miles driven and gas put back in tank at each fill up. I have used only Mobil bottom 87 oct gas.Last fill up got me 48.2, very nice, then I filled up with mid grade 89 oct as it was all I could get then. The next day I was in the dealer for my 1000 mile checkup. when I got out my battery was down to 25%, okay no biggie. Then from there on out I notice my mpg changed alot. The comps used to read 49.1-50.1. Now it reads 42.2-44.1. I drive the same way and my 85 mile round trip to work hasn't changed. My first fill up since the dealer, got me 45.0 mpg. wow a big drop off.
View 4 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) Fuel :: 2009 - Mileage Dropped After Tire Rotation
I had my the tires on my 2009 Prius rotated a while back. My car has 36,000 miles on it all on the original tires. It seems like my mileage dropped a bit since doing that. There are so many variables in mileage though, it is hard for me to pin it down to that. Could tire rotation affect my mileage?
View 4 RepliesPrius V :: Mileage Appears To Be Dropped Without Any Cause
We recently got back from a 2800 mile trip. Our v now has 10,600 miles on it. We have been averaging 41 mpg until the last two tank fuls. For some strange reason we got 34.5 displayed on our last tank, 32 actual, and right now after 90 miles we are showing 30.5 displayed. My wife drives the car 98% of the time, but even when I use hypermiling techniques the car is not yielding the past displayed results. We are about to take it in for the 10,000 oil change.
View 8 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Mileage Dropped After Oil Change
I have an 05 Prius that I bought used. It has 59K miles on it. Recently I took it to the dealer for an oil change. They told me it didn't need an oil change, but did need an air filter. Afterwards, the mileage dropped from about 47 around town to about 42. Had the oil changed a week later, and the mileage is now about 40 around town. The dipstick when cold shows a little above the full mark.
View 15 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2005 - Mileage Dropped After Oil / Filters And Tire Change?
I have a 2005 Prius that I bought about 1 year ago that has about 75k miles. According to the display, I have been getting about 5.5l/100km (~43mpg) up until I did some maintenance in July.
A friend changed the oil, oil filter, and cabin air filter. Also, right around this time I bought a new set of tires. For some stupid reason, I had the idea that it had run flat tires, so that's what I bought & by the time I realized my mistake, it was too late.
Prius Plug-in 2012-15 :: EV Mileage Dropped Without Any Apparent Reason
I just took advantage of incentives and traded in my 2012 PiP for a 2015. In hilly San Francisco I'm accustomed to between 8 and 9 all-electric miles per full charge. Today was the new PiP's maiden voyage--a six-mile trip that in the old car would leave me with 2.1 to 2.3 EV miles remaining (per the readout.) But the new car actually ran out of electric power just before the trip's conclusion.

Well I shouldn't say MPG since we canadians use L/100km.
View 19 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Fuel Mileage Reduced When Driving In Rain
We gave the Prius a good workout in the rain for the first time today. Central Florida has been having serious amounts of heavy rain, creating water covered roads in our area. Normally the digital fuel mileage display shows around 55 MPG for most of our driving. However today it dropped to the upper forties very quickly.
We were running the wipers on continuous (low and med speeds), the AC (defrost) was running to keep the condensation off the windows, and the headlights were on. I wonder if the extra resistance of the water on the road also had an effect on the fuel mileage.
Even though we hit some fairly deep water and created large amounts of splash, the car tracked straight, the brakes worked well, and the power was totally uninterrupted. Other than the poor fuel milage we were impressed.
Prius C Fuel :: Millage Dropped Drastically
I have Prius 2010 and I was getting 20 km/l to 22 km/l until I repaired the part which is between two tires and when you revolve your steering it revolve due to that rod. Right after I drive my car as I came out of workshop, it seems that my engine keep running more and turn off less.
1- Can I check if my Hybrid battery is getting weak or what is the health of my hybrid battery ?
2- Is there any way if I can check my front tires are revolving without any friction and revolving freely ?
Prius (2004-09) Fuel :: SOC Dropped - Battery Status To One Bar
Today I went to the national car test (passed. but), when the car has been returned to me by the employee of national car test center I noticed one bar on the SOC. This happened for the first time.
Additional notes:
1) recently (about 4 weeks ago) I had to temporarily replace for second hand (20 bucks) 12v small auxiliary battery.
2) recently (withing last four weeks) I noticed high temperature in the boot compartment, I tried to investigate and the ducting leading from the HV battery was really hot, which means that my battery was really hot too.
I tried to explain this to myself that this might be due to HV operating at higher levels due to unknown state of the replaced 12v small aux battery (second hand product).
3) Today I noticed that technician at the test center used some spring assisted bar to press the brake on the car while he tested the car, I recon that maybe he have had powered off the car while doing so, is it possible that this might have contributed to the dropped SOC ?- it's just my guess.
I'm thinking to replace 12v aux battery to brand new battery and then test the operation of the fan and whether the temperature still rise. - is it good idea? Or should I just seek for the testing tool to determine the status of each of the modules?
If so, which testing device can handle this task? I heard from this forum about ELM obd bluetooth adapter. I use android device, would this be okay or should I look for another device perhaps scangauge?
Prius (2004-09) Fuel :: Ridiculous Drop In MPG - Dropped To 43 MPH
I used to get 55-58 MPG when my commute was 65 miles one way, 85% freeway. But these days I noticed that when AC runs hard and trips typically 16 miles, 40 MPH, mpg dropped to 42-45. That worried me a little bit.
Driving style: conservative. I start off normally, but I use N gear as soon as passing speed limit. (this factor alone should enhance mpg by 10 I guess. I used this technique on my 98' Lexus LS400, 4 Ltr V8 engine, once got 38 mpg on freeway, while the sticker says 18/25). This is the main reason I worry that something is wrong with my prius.
Typical range: 16 miles, all local.
Tire pressure: 40 psi
AC runs hard, outside temp 90 degrees, I set temp to 72 inside. (I guess this is the main reason for mpg drop, but I don't think it should drop that much)
I recently changed oil and trans oil.
My battery is a little bit weak, but no warning light. If I forget to turn off head lights, it needs jump in 10 minutes.
Mileage is 143K, 2004 model.
Water pump changed by Toyota free of charge.
Any clue? or it sounds normal and I don't need to worry about it?

View 12 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2004 - Reoccurring Misfire / Dropped Mileage
Recently (5 weeks ago), my 2004 Jetta misfired, which caused the car to shake very noticeably, especially at lower speeds or while idling. The misfire was accompanied by the smell of fuel on the driver side and triggered the check engine light to flash. I took it to the shop (a VW dealer). They ran diagnostics, found it signaled a misfire (but no other major issues/sensors) and told me it was due to the spark plugs/wires. I was dubious, as they were not too old, but I allowed them to replace them anyway, as they assured me this would fix the problem.
Just this week, however, another misfire occurred, also accompanied by the smell of fuel and shaking. This time, the check engine light remained on (constant) for 2 days, and on the third day, it was off. I brought it back to the same shop to try to figure out the real cause of the misfire, which obviously was not the previous spark plugs. My city gas mileage has also decreased over the past month - down to about 20-21 mpg from 23-24. What could be causing such a reoccurring misfire without signaling an issue with a sensor or other part?
Volvo - XC70 :: 2000 - Gas Mileage Dropped Even Have To Accelerate Going Down Hills
The car has drastically dropped gas mileage from 17mpg to 11-12 mpg. It's laboring, and I even have to accelerate going down hills where I am usually breaking to keep from going too fast. I have had the whole car looked over twice -- timing belt was a little old, so we replaced it. The gas filter was full of gunk, and it was replaced. Still has the same problem. Mechanic can't find anything else wrong. I'm getting ready for a long road trip and don't want to pay for all that gas or break down along the way.
View 10 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2002 - Changed Spark Plugs But Gas Mileage Dropped To 24 MPG?
As far as I know, my Passat has never had any other spark plugs other than OEM. I could also swear that those OEM plugs always had 3 grounds. My gas mileage historically averages about 27MPG in a mixed city/highway environment.
Recently, my spark plugs were replaced and now my gas mileage has dropped to 24MPG. I had a similar problem once with my previous car (1998 Jetta GLI) and it was due to going from a three ground spark plug to a single ground plug. Putting in three ground spark plugs instantly restored the gas mileage to previous levels.
I've read repeatedly that the NKG PFR6Q is the OEM plug but it only has a single ground. I realize that my memory could be faulty, but this is driving me nuts.
Alas I can't be sure what was there before versus what's there now, but I know my previous mechanic was a stickler for OEM parts. Would switching from a multi-ground to a single-ground cause a 10%+ drop in mileage?
Prius (2010-12) :: Is Gen III Battery Better Than Gen II For High Mileage?
I am in the market for a used Gen III regular Prius. I know that battery in Gen III is smaller in size and weight, so energy density is greater. That's great. But I wonder if you've seen high mileage (>200K) Gen III owners experience battery performance deterioration, like someone experienced in Gen II.
My 2004 with 220K miles only get 44mpg in this summer temp. (I drive it a little bit aggressive, use AC, and don't care much about hypermilling) I think at least partly it is due to weaker HV Battery. I can clearly feel that now it is easier for engine to rev very hard when accelerate at 50 mph. That's not the case before.
