Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 1997 F250 - Cold Engine - Heater Would Blow Either Cold Or Slightly Warm
I can't seem to get the engine temp to middle range on the marker, but yet my heater blows "to me" hot air. Even while sitting in idle for extended amounts of time I cannot get it to "operating" temperature. I would think if my thermostat was stuck open my heater would blow either cold or slightly warm air. I have the 5.4L engine with knn air filter and no cats.

Car is fully warmed up (200 deg) and the vents blast ice cold air even on 84 deg temp setting. If I put it on hi-temp it blasts really hot air (like it should). Why I can't get in between temps? This has been going on for 3 weeks now but not all the time.
View 8 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2006 Climatronic - Cold Air Is Just A Little Too Warm To Be Working Correctly
I have a 2006 Passat 2.0T (UK Model), and I'm having trouble with both the outside temperature reading and the climatronic's cooling ability. When I bought the car the air-con was blowing cold and warm air without any problems, but the "cold" air is just a little too warm to be working correctly. I've had the system re-gassed but this didn't solve anything.
As I said, all the features of the air-con work perfectly, it's just the cold air just isn't cold enough - so it seems to me that the compressor is working fine. Also, the outside air temperature reading on the MFD reads about 5-10 degrees too warm. Would this have anything to do with the air-con issue?
Volvo - 850 :: Noise When Engine Is Cold But Once Warm, Much Valve Clicking
Our 1997 850GL wagon with 160k miles has persisently noisy valves. At considerable cost, we replaced the hydraulic valve lifters with new ones from Volvo. Noise persists. Increased oil viscosity, now at a ridiculous 15W40. Also using an oil additive to further increase viscosity. Little if any noise when engine is cold but once warm, much valve clicking. We change oil religiously and keep oil topped up.

I've read the pages on engine oil level and changes in the awesome 2004-2009 manual by John's Stuff - Toyota Prius and more.
Great information on overfilling of engine oil. Among others I read:
"The ideal level is 1/4” (one-quarter inch or 6 millimeters) below the "full" mark, which is between the D and the E on the photo above." (p.27)
Ford A/C :: 2001 F350 - Air Turns Cold When Let The Engine Warm Up
2001 F350 7.3L with 140K. Have had it for 7 years and this has never happened. I let the engine warm up (I'm in Cheyoming and it gets cold!). I'll have warm air coming out at all settings (foot, dash, combo, etc) for a few minutes, then the air turns cold!
I've checked the actuator and blend door and they seem to be working properly. The heater hoses going into the firewall are not particularly hot/warm. Is there a valve or thermostat that could be shutting water off to the heater core? Cause that's what it seems is happening. Like starting off in the shower with warm water . . . then someone gradually turns it to cold. Then next time I get in, warm air to cold again!
Ford Excursion :: Engine Temperature Act Quite Normal After A Cold Start / Won't Get Warm
I have a problem here which isn't funny around 30F. The engine temperature act quite normal after a cold start, but the heating inside is disabled somehow. So I can select any temperature in the front and back, but it stays cold.

I just punches a 2010 Camry 4 cylinder with 44,646 miles. Very clean. I've owned 2 camrys in the past a 97 and 2002 that both reached well over 200,00 miles without a hint of trouble. Well, when I start the 2010 when its cold like from overnight it sounds like the lifter are ticking?, it lasts until the engine is warm and then I don't hear it. It still has the 2 month 3000 mile warranty from the dealer. I just don't seem to remember our other Toyota sounding that way.
View 14 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - Engine Works At 1100 RPM Whether Cold Or Warm All The Time
I have Golf MK4 1.6 16V BCB '02 and problem while engine is running on idle. Engine works at 1100 rpm (doesn't matter is it cold or warm engine) all the time.
Dashboard turns CHECK ENGINE and EPC lamps and says : "engine workshop". At the beggining of problem VAG-COM diagnostic found this error:
17953 - Throttle Valve Controller: Malfunction
P1545 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
But after I've changed my old throttle body with new one VAG-COM diagnostic haven't reported any error (no permanent error) and idle issue stays.
While engine is running and Check engine and EPC lapms are turned on diagnostic reports this error:
17961 Barometric/Manifold pressure signals: Implausible Correlation
P1553-35-10 ----Intermittent
After engine is turned off diagnostic doesn't report any error!
Beside of changing throttle body, I've changed ECM, MAP sensor, temperature sensor, EGR valve, . Also checked intake manifold and hoses if is it leaky (doesn't leak anywhere), and timing belt is ok and checked complete wiring installation!!!

View 9 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Boiling Coolant - Engine Compartment Getting Really Warm
I have an 03 Passat Wagon, 2.8L V6. My wife is getting ready for a big drive tomorrow, about 13 hours. Right now after reaching the operating temperature and then shutting off the coolant is boiling. The temp gauge never goes beyond 190 so it is not overheating but it is getting really warm in the engine compartment.
History: I noticed a couple of days ago that the expansion tank was badly discolored and had some corrosion inside. I know it was because I inadvertently mixed the green stuff with it about 2 months ago. I know it was stupid, but that was before I realized how stupid. Yesterday I drained the coolant and flushed it about 4 times. I couldn't flush it completely because I couldn't get at the drain next to the transmission fluid pan. I just drained it from the front outlet.
I refilled the system by disconnecting the expansion tank and holding it up until fluid came out of the hole on the hose going into the firewall. Then I was going to bleed it from the bleeder screw in the rear coolant pipe (as listed in Haynes manual) but could not find it. I even have the photo in the book to guide me and it is not there. Since I couldn't find it I skipped to the bleeder valve by the serpentine belt. I bleed that and hooked it all back up.
Now my fluid boils. I know it isn't the expansion tank cap because I took the one from my Jetta and put it in and it does the same thing. I put the cap from the Passat in the Jetta and it doesn't cause that coolant to boil. After driving today for a half hour the engine compartment felt superheated. Even the fenders were hot to the touch. It is almost 90 outside but it still felt unusually hot in the engine compartment. I would like for my wife to drive this on her road trip instead of the Jetta, but I can't let her do that with this problem.
I think I must not have bleed the system very well. The heater works and the temp gauge never goes above 190.
Passat (B5) :: Increasing Oil Smell When At Idle After Engine Is Warm
After almost 9 years, 130K miles on my 2000 GLX wagon 5-sp., for the last 6 months I'm noticing an increasing oily "smell" when at idle after the engine is warm. Other posts suggest it might be a leak in rear cam seals or valve cover gasket dripping small amounts of oil down on the exhaust system. There's been no visible oil leak when the car is parked and it does NOT "use" oil between every 5K changes. Is replacing the valve cover gaskets a job within the reach of a moderately experienced DIYer?
View 3 RepliesCamry 2012+ :: Smell Of Gasoline In Engine Oil When Checking Dipstick
I am about 7300 miles from my last oil change about a year ago. I was checking my dip stick the other day and while I was looking at it, I got a whiff of what definitely smelled like gasoline.
I have a little over 47k miles on it, and barely drive it 10k a year, mostly city some highway trips here and there.
Is this normal? Should I be concerned? If gasoline does mix with the engine oil, is the ECU smart enough to pick up any anomalies and alert me with a check engine light?
Fluid level on the dipstick looked fine.

View 6 RepliesPassat (B5) :: If Crank When Engine Already Warm Takes Longer To Turn Over
When I crank the engine when it's cold, it cranks fine. Case in point: first thing in the morning and in the afternoon when I'm leaving the office to come home. However, if I crank the engine when it's already warm it takes significantly longer to turn over. It really doesn't feel like it wants to crank at all and pumping the gas pedal doesn't work with things even though its second nature from my old carburetor days. The fact that it only acts up when the engine is warm befuddles me! I remember reading something like this awhile ago and the culprit was a clogged "box that dissipates gases". It's a 2003 Passat with the 1.8 turbo. The car has been maintained according to the service schedule and runs like a champ with 100,349 on the odometer.
