Passat (B7) :: Turbo Failure - Glow Plug Light Blinking And Immediately Lost Significant Amount Of Power
I am new the forum but I wanted to get some information about the apparent turbo failure problem the 2012-2014 TDIs seem to be having. On other forums I have read numerous premature turbo failures. Also how long did it take to get the new parts and complete the repair. My car at this point will be in the shop for over a week. At the point when the car broke down I did not really know what was going on. The glow plug light was blinking and I immediately lost a significant amount of power. Do I need to worry about any internal engine damage from a blown turbo? I was able to get the car to the dealer at a very slow speed in a very short amount of time but this is my first diesel and first turbo so I could use some information.
View 14 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Pop When Accelerating With Turbo Spooling Up And Lost Power - Code P0475
As I was getting ready to leave town with the tractor loaded up, I was accelerating with the turbo spooling up when I heard a bit of a pop and lost power (engine still running and all, just very low power like you get when the turbo fails). I wasn't far from the shop so I came back and started getting a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust, it doesn't smell like diesel, probably more like oil. Definitely smoke, not coolant. I pulled it around back and shut it down to go grab AE and scan it and it shows a P0475, starting it back up has light smoke at idle and it idles fine but as soon as you give it any throttle it starts smoking pretty badly.
Researching it looks like the most likely cause for this is the EBPV itself but before tearing it down that far. This is the only code it's showing.
Truck has 272k on it, turbo was rebuilt a couple of years ago but we didn't do anything with the pedestal at that time. I guess in retrospect, I probably should have done the EBPV delete and the resistor fix then but I didn't think about it at the time.
On another note, my AE is not showing any of the system test for some reason, the drop down is blank. I have version 7.0.1, so it's an old version but I'm working on an old truck, so... What that might be? I've got the truck pulled into the shop now to let it cool down. I'll probably let it sit overnight and take the turbo and EBPV out tomorrow unless someone has a better suggestion...
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Lost Turbo Again Even After New EBP Tube And Sensor?
Lost my turbo at idle early this week un plugged the ebp sensor which gave me a 10.7 default reading but got the turbo back at idle. Ok easy fix. Ordered a new ebp tube and sensor. Wired up the new pigtail and installed the new sensor and tube. Truck ran great all day. Now I goto leave tonight and I have the same problem.
So I unplug the ebp sensor and I have a default reading of only 6.5 now? I checked all my splice pigtail connections and everything looks fine still. What it could be this time?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 - Hissing Noise When Accelerating - Lost Turbo?
I have a 2005 F250 with 186K miles. I do minor work on my vehicles but have little experience working on my diesel. I was accelerating when I heard a pop and a hiss similar to disconnecting an air hose from an air compressor. Total loss of turbo power. No turbo reading on the turbo gauge on dash. No loss of oil. No smoke. Oil and coolant look fine. Took off turbo and everything appeared to operate like it should (according to YouTube videos). Inspected lines and rubber boots.
Rubber has some cracks but not certain if they are holes. How small/large of a hole would cause total loss? Was originally scared to take it to a shop knowing they could name their price. Not opposed to taking it somewhere now knowing the turbo works but obviously would rather save the money. Any tips on troubleshooting? I'm not opposed to proactively replacing parts/sensors as the truck has given me 186k and I plan to keep it as long as possible.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F250 - No Start / Lost The Upper Turbo Hose
I have an 03 super duty with the 6.0, came back from vacation with my 5th wheel in tow. Lost the upper turbo hose twice on way home. Managed to get it rigged and made it home and parked it. a week later went to uncouple and move the truck and had some very strange issues. Started fine but could barely make it up driveway (no trailer at this point). No power, felt like when turbo hose came off. Got it moved and checked turbo hose and all was good?? Went out a couple days later and no start.
Checked all relative fuses and relays and all checked good. Jumped starter solenoid and starter worked fine. turned key on and jumped quick connect on right side of engine compartment to battery and it fired right up and ran. Jiggled shifter around in park and neutral and nothing. BTW I always here the relay clicking and swapped with one of the others just to be sure, same thing. After looking on the internet for a day and a half thought maybe a NSS in the tranny but I think I have the 5R110 that does not apply??
Ford Excursion :: Lost Turbo - Smoke Out Of The Exhaust
Thinking back, this may have started Saturday.... or may be earlier. Saturday I noticed smoke out the exhaust when I would let off the throttle, like coming up to a stop sign, or getting off an off-ramp. Didn't think that much of it. Yesterday I notice its worse, so I'm looking at my Quadzilla monitor on the way home and I'm seeing ZERO psi of boost.....
Is it possible I lost my turbo and my Excursion still motored down the highway towing 7,000 lbs. with the cruise @ 65 and the truck never skipped a beat ??
Got it home so I could unload the trailer...... at this point is there any harm in running the truck to get the trailer into the back yard to get the trailer put away and get the truck in my driveway to work on it? Tried to do some reading here last night and it looks like plenty of others have lost a turbo and (apparently) not sent shrapnel into their engine.
I assume I can find a disassembly / assembly video on Youtube on removing a turbo from a 7.3. Can the Riffraff turbo rebuild be done by a guy who is mechanically inclined, but by no means a diesel mechanic ?? What other parts will I need in the process?
Passat (B5) :: 2003 - Left Rear Door Lock Busted
Well, I had success with the last post (antenna) that I would post here about lock.
Here is the deal - Rear left (driver side) door will not lock automatically with the key or the controls up front. I have to press it down to lock it but will unlock if I use either of the controls mentioned above. My thought is that the actuator is busted.

Passat (B5) :: 2003 - How To Remove And Replace A Busted Lock Cylinder
How to remove and replace a busted lock cylinder. My wife's car got broken into and used something that punched in the driver's door lock cylinder. VW wants top replace a new lock cylinder. I've been able to remove the drivers door panel but I wasn't able to figure out the final steps.
View 1 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2003 GLS V6 Suddenly Stalled In The Middle Of Road - Fuel Pump Busted
Yesterday, for the first time ever, car had to be towed to the dealership for some major problem. My dad was driving to work with his car , a 2003 GLS V6, and suddenly it stalled in the middle of the road. Turns out it was the fuel pump that caused it. Never mind the expenses which is ridiculously high and can't do anything about it (yes, i'm loyal to my dealer). His car had 129399kms on it plus a km to the dealer and mine had 70136km for a 2002 GLS V6.
View 2 RepliesCamry :: 2006 LE Power Outlet Busted / Replacement?
I have a 2006 Toyota Camry LE. The power outlet is busted. It works just fine (it does have power), its just that the spring inside it has broken. Consequently, it doesn't hold my ipod car adapters or car chargers. What are my options? Will I be able to get an OEM part? Is it worth it or will a generic part suffice?
View 1 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2002 - Lost Power At All To The Stereo
Recently had battery problem on the Passat. I had to have the car jumped and the stereo was on. Now I have no power at all to the stereo, everything else seems to work fine. I checked fuse panel, no blown fuses. Is there a separate fuse or breaker for the Monsoon system.
View 2 RepliesPassat (B7) :: 2013 - Found Code P0299 For Turbo Power Under Boost
Sudden power loss experienced. CEL (Check Engine Light came on) and Glow Plug Light was flashing. Power loss is severe so really can't drive it anywhere. Turbo Failed at 5500 miles.
Mechanic quote: "Found code P0299 for turbo power under boost. Removed upper engine cover and intake hose. Checked turbo shaft and found play near intake side of turbo. Removed lower engine shield and lower hose to intercooler. Checked for metal. Contacted VW and created VTA. Instructed by VW to replace turbo. Did."
Sounds like service manager abbreviated when entering into the computer. In any case a shame that this car was in the shop for more than a week while the dilly dallied and waited for a turbo to be shipped in.
Some earlier turbo-fail threads from last summer stated dealer told them "bad batch" of turbos was being experienced by VW. Believable, particularly if they're banged out in China? Let's all hope it was a bad batch.
Passat (B6) :: Lost Power To Interior Doom Lights
Basically I lost power to all interior dome lighting, front and rear, i only have power to the front footwells. it happened when i tried changing/replacing the rear map lights while the car was on, i know i know, the car was suppose to be turned off, should i take my car to the dealer or is it a fix i can do?
View 5 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2001 - Engine Light Is On / Lost Power
The light engine is on - I understand that the O2 sensor on bank one is gone, the car hesitates and I would like to understand what is wrong. Maybe other sensors or perhaps the turbo. The car has 62,000 miles. Will the car recup power by replacing the bad O2 sensor?

View 5 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 1999 - While Driving Lost All Power With No Warning?
I have a 99 passat 1.8t that as I was driving down the road just lost all power with no warning. I got to side of the road I shut the car off and tried to restart it with no success. Called a local vw shop and they said sounds like a camshaft or crankshaft sensor, so replaced them both with no new success. Why it would lose all power and after replacing those parts and new plugs still no fire to turn it over.
View 2 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Transmission Slipping / Engine Lost All Power / RPMs At 3k
So yesterday I was driving from a stoplight and for the second time in as many links, the car did something I've never experience and any of my vehicles before. It rev'd through 1-2-3 and on the 3-4 shift the rpms just held at 3k and it almost seemed the engine had lost all power or maybe I guess come to think of it seemed like the transmission was slipping. I know it had the TSB for the hard shifts which was for 1-2 and 3-4 if I remember right. I'm going to take it to the dealer but I know them by now that if I give them a general problem that isn't happening at that moment, then they'll say everything is working properly. Like I mentioned before, this is only the second time over the life of the car (45k miles) that this has been experience when I was in the car.
View 1 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 F350 4x4 Won't Move - Trans Busted?
I have a 2006 F350 4x4 dually (6.0 diesel obviously) automatic. It's got 200kml on it and a second motor (found the sticker on the valve cover). I just bought it a month ago and have only driven it like 100-150 miles. Previous owner imported it to Finland 3 years ago, but never registered and only drove it like 500-1000 miles (with temporary plates to carry his racer few times). Original owner was a company in Southern Midwest that had some equipment on back. (It's was sold as a chassis cab new.)
Now I was getting the truck tested for registration yesterday. Drove it there 30 miles (country roads and highways), no problems. Then we had to do the smog-test, which is a bitch. They rev the engine to limiter (4200rpm) couple of times and measure the particles flying out. Passed it flying colors, but when trying to pull out the transmission wont engage!
Shifter linkage ok. Oil in tranny clear and plenty. When I put on R or D the engine RMP rises very slightly (maybe 50-100 rpm) and then settles back. But nothing else happens.
Luckily got a friend with large flatbed that we used to carry my baby home. But now I don't know where to start... ...well, I do have couple of ideas what could be broken. Specially if there's something simpler than dropping the whole tranny out (it's HEAVY and it's cold&wet out there) and rebuilding the whole damn thing.
Previous owner told he had some shifting issues couple of years ago (maybe 500 miles ago) and they "rebuilt" the tranny. He DID replace the hydraulic "logic board" and solenoids + new packs while at it. Naturally new filter & oil too. He said the torque converter was "tested" to be in good condition and they used the old one. I can tell the tranny has been out of the truck and the seller felt legit (a car guy too).
Passat (B6) :: Car Lost Power And Acceleration After Brushed Aluminum Pedal Adaptation
I installed a set of brushed aluminum pedal about a month ago and now I feel that the car does not have the same power and acceleration like before! I mean if on 60mph cruising I want to accelerate to pass a car and push the pedal all the way up to the acceleration bottom the Trani only downshifts up to 3000 rpm and if I want pass quicker then push it all the way to the bottom then it shifts to 5000 rpm, in sport mode it is different and looks OK.
