My 2.0T Passat sedan will not start for 3 weeks now. It is at a dealer and they seem to be unsure what to do for it. I see there is alot of this issue with the 3.6 wagon, but is it a growing problem for the sedan as well? My service advisor indicated to me that there are several others at their shop with the same problem.
View 12 RepliesPassat :: 2007 2.0T - Worsening Start Up
I have a 2.0T that sometimes drags a bit when starting the car. It seems to be getting worse with time. A few weeks ago it would only drag every once in a while before starting right up. Now it seems to drag when turning over more often, once every other start. The severity of the dragging also seems to be escalating, to the point now that it might not start up.
I believe it is a starter that is going bad, but not sure. The battery has a good charge on it while the car is off, and while the car is running. I put an amp clamp on the starter cable, and most of the starts were around 180 amps at start up. However, when it would drag real bad the amps would shoot up to around 350 amps at start up. What the Cold Cranking Amps are on these factory starters?
Should I go ahead and get a starter for the car, and then go from there.
Passat (B6) :: 2007 - 2.0t Placement Of Resonator
I have a question about the placement of the resonator. I have searched but I would just like confirmation due to the fact that I only found 1 thread with pics.
Following the tips, what is the correct order. I believe that it is tips, muffler, and then the large resonator. Meaning that the resonator is the closest to the engine. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but there is only 1 resonator in the b6 2.0t right.
Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Key Fob Will Start The Car But Cannot Unlock
So both of my Key Fobs stopped working. Replaced the batteries in both. They both still start the car, but neither will unlock. I have tried to re-program them via the steps in the owners manual, but that did not work. The light on the fobs flashes red when any button is pushed.
It is a 2007 Passat base. No fancy features. Dealer said I would need a new key, which didn't make any since since it still starts the car....
Passat (B6) :: 2007 Jerking During Acceleration
I have a 2007 2.0T and about two weeks ago the car started jerking while accelerating. It only does it when the engine is cold. Sometimes it does it more than others. Shortly after the engine reaches its normal operating temperature, it stops jerking.
I scanned the computer with my VAG-COM but there are not DTCs. I originally suspected the oxygen sensor but the jerking happens even before the oxygen sensor kicks in. So even when is running a fuel rich mixture prior to getting feedback from the O2 sensor it jerks sometimes.
I have just under 55K miles, so I am not sure about the spark plugs but I find it strange that once the car warms up it stops doing it. The cam follower got replaced about 12K miles ago. The air filter is due for change soon but I don't think that is the problem, last time I looked at it (about 3K miles ago, it didn't look that dirty). I need to check this one again...haven't had time lately.
The only thing that was done recently to the car was the replacement of the transmission valve body under the powertrain warranty. The first few days everything worked okay but then a few days after the repair the jerking started. Could this be a symptom of tranny issues?
Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Key Fob Stuck In Ignition?
My friend has a 2007 Passat 2.0 T Wagen. He went to start it up this morning with no problems, but the car shut off after a few seconds and it said mobilization activated. The key won't come out of the ignition.
View 6 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2007 - Fragile Paint On A New Car Is Possible?
During the first month or so after I got my '07 3.6, the car was accumulating damage at an alarming rate. It seemed like every time I looked it it, I found something new in the way of paint damage, and this in spite of the fact that it lives in a garage at my house and is completely safe there, isn't driven much, and is parked away from absolutely everything all the time (I'm nuts about that.) Much of the damage was in the form of paint chips - some in unusual areas, such as in the middle of the right A-pillar. And these chips were right through the paint to raw metal. I was wondering, "how can this possibly be?" Other stuff happened too - like long scratches the full length of the roof (not through the paint, however). I could never understand any of how this was happening, and it has since subsided. But that the time, I could only come up with two explanations:
1) the car is just a damage magnet. (I actually have a theory that some cars just are. My Touareg was not. Nothing EVER happened to it, and when I turned it in for the Passat this past spring with 30k, it was virtually flawless)
2) The new paint on the car had failed to harden properly (also hard to accept, but perhaps easier to accept than the damage magnet theory).

View 4 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2007 - Oil Leak On The Fenders
I'm the second owner of this '07 Passat 2.0T Wolfsburg with 45,681 miles, so it should still be in warranty. I've had it just under a month and love it but have been noticing oil on the fenders. I've noticed an oil smell after shutting off the car and decided to take a look under the hood today. The pics below show what I'm finding. The oil splatter is after a wash and 130 miles of driving. The red rectangles show the oil puddles on the engine under the air intake tube.
Where this can be coming from? I'd like to be able to tell the dealership something before taking it in. The nearest dealer is about 60 miles from me in New Orleans. I work in NO so leaving the car there wouldn't be a major problem.
Passat (B6) :: 2007 - How Does The 2.0T Cam Adjuster Work
I have a 2007 Passat 2.0t that unfortunately suffered a broken timing chain at 80k miles. While try to figure out what to do with it I'd like to learn a little bit about the design.
I have the timing chain cover off and have viewed the carnage. The chain broke and got jammed between the cover and the adjuster and the adjuster's pins sheered from the cam.
I can see the solenoid on the cam cover and the spring thingy extending concentrically from the cam cover to the cam adjuster.
What is the purpose of the cam adjuster? Is this changing the valve timing of the intake cams or is it simply maintaining the sync of the exhaust cam and intake cam as the chain wears?
How does the solenoid and the projecting spring from the cover influence the functioning of the adjuster?
Is the adjuster ruined on my car? Those pins are designed to shear off so maybe the adjuster is still ok?
Passat (B6) :: 2007 2.0T Engine Squeal At Idle
The last week or so I have noticed an engine squeal when warm and only at idle. A light acceleration will make it go away. I suspected the idler bearing but would expect it to stick around during off idle driving. Is there some sort of idle air controller that could be going bad? Where to look?

View 19 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2007 / 2.0 Starts And Then Stalls Out After A Few Seconds?
Car has 6600 miles on it and is back in the shop for 2nd time to determine what is wrong. Basically, the car starts and then stalls out after a few seconds. It will not start again (at least with me). Course, the dealer can get it started after the tow to them.It began in April after an oil change at the dealer. A week after the change, it started up and then a message SHUT DOWN appeared on the dash.
The car stalled and would not restart. When it was towed to the dealer, it had no oil. Per the dealer, there was no leak and it was assumed the tech forgot to put oil in it, They indicated it was not a problem since there was some oil remaining but the car would still not start. They kept it a few days and replaced the relay for the fuel modulator, electronic fuel pump, fuel unit, fuel pump control unit, e-control unit and of course the battery. Note: this was a cold start.
About a month later, I had driven the car for about 30 minutes, left it for an hour and came back to the car.....it stalled again right after start up and would not restart. After being on hold with roadside assistance for awhile, I tried it again and it started without issue. .
A week later (today), used it for a half hour, came back to use it 3 hours later and same story. Started, then stalled, no restart. Towed it to the dealer and the tech got it started but no codes telling him what is wrong.
Passat (B6) :: 2007 2.0T - Flashing Lights / Fob Won't Respond
I have a 2007 Passat with 60K on it and all maintenance kept up. Oil changes every 5K and all service done by a VW dealer. The car worked great yesterday when I drove it to the store but today its not responding at all. The car lights (parking in the rear only) and dash lights are flashing like a strobe and the car won't respond to the key fob. I don't have my blade key so I can't get access to the car. I suspect if I could disconnect the battery it would reset but I can't pop the hood without getting in the car.

I replaced the battery in my 07 3.6 4mo thinking it was in need due to the cranking time getting longer and longer recently. I began to notice this since the winter. I think it was somewhat there in the summer and fall also but when its super cold or the car has been run in a day or so it seems to be worse. Anyway replaced the battery and it didn't change much at all.
View 16 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2007 - Back Seat Removal
How to take out the back seat of the Passat? I'm needing to run a Pioneer IP bus cable to the trunk and it would be easier with the bottom of the rear seat out. I looked in the archives and found a thread saying you just pull up on the bottom. I have pulled up on the bottom of the seat so hard that I'm worried that I will break it. I still can't get it out. Is there something I'm missing?
