Passat (B6) :: 2007 2.0T CEL On / Surge At Idle And Whistle Or Squeal When Moving
The title pretty much explains it. Coming home today started hearing a squeal/whistle while at highway speed - almost sounds like the brake wear indicator tabs that GM is so fond of. Thought it might be the brakes, but it didn't stop with brake application and continued after coming to a full stop. Also, surging at idle, which seems to be reduced when the A/C compressor is on. The squeal happens both with and without A/C.

Twice this week our 2009 SantaFe (3.3l) had a squeal from the engine upon cold startup. The first time it was very cold (-20C or so) and this was louder and longer than the second time (-10C or so). The squeal lasted only a few seconds and trailed off to nothing. Each time the heater controls were set on defrost (fyi). In order of likely suspects, I suspect one of the following:
-compressor engaging and causing sudden increase in resistance on the belt or compressor engagement clutch noisy
-idler pulley for some reason causing belt to slip at first, but don't suspect idler bearing as noise disappears right away
-belt slippage due to resistance somewhere else--e.g. water pump or alternator.
This may not happen when I take the vehicle in for its next scheduled maintenance as by then the weather will likely be warmer. This has 76000 km on the clock.
Nissan - Sentra :: Stalling At Idle / Loud Squeal
I just had to have my 89 Nissan sentra wagon towed (stalling at idle - unable to fix it myself after several tries). It's a fixed all-wheel drive with only 40k original miles. It was preoccupied when the tow truck guy told me to put it in first gear, then he lifts the front wheels and drives off before I come to my senses. He gets about 1500 feet and up to 25/30mph before the tires on my car start to squeal as loud as my brain... He did then stop and we got the car on a flat bed. Do you think he ruined my transaxle or other 4wd parts?

I am posting about a cam sensor code and alternator belt squeal.
Yesterday after getting in from a 600 mile drive from salt lake to eastern Oregon i took a look at the car to put some fogs in and clean it up a bit. It had always had some odd vibration at idle and belt squeal intermittently at idle. I pressed down on the alternator at idle and the vibration noise went away. So bam. Found that.
The nut on the square head mounting bolt holding the alternator was missing. So it was kind of just flapping around. Replaced the bolt and put a lock nut on. Problem solved so I thought.
I'm still getting belt squeal. And i think that its out of alignment. It looks like the pulley side of the alternator is closer to the engine block than the other side. Is this adjustable? Is the bushing on the mounting side worn out to the point of movement? Is this fixable?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Loud High Pitch Squeal At Idle
Yesterday my truck started making a loud high pitch squeal at idle. Messing with it this morning I found when I turn the a/c on it quits. Then it will do it for a second at startup and quit. If the a/c system is turned off it comes back. I thought exhaust leak until I found the a/c link.

I just purchased a LS 460 2007, 64k miles. The brake when apply squeal, but not all the time when the break is applied. 5 times out of 10 times when you apply the break when driving the car for more than 20 minutes it start to squeal. It does not squeal when you first drive in the morning, but after driving more than 20 minutes, when you apply the brake - it will squeal on and off during various application of the break. Does the LS460 have brake indicator that would squeal all the time when you need new break? I am not sure what the sign that LS460 would need new break and rotor.....

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Ice Chunks Starting Flying Out Of AC Vents After Sitting Idle For 15 Minutes
Went on a road trip over the weekend and had some problems with the A/C. 200 miles into the trip I noticed the fan with the setting on 4 started to get weak and wasn't very cold. After getting stopped for a speeding ticket and sitting idle for 15 minutes, ice chunks starting flying out of the vents. After this happened it was fine.

I just purchased a used 2009 tiguan with 70k KM on it and I love it. thou the brake feels a little odd and I am not sure if this is normal. the brakes have a non-linear feel to it, and it squeals a little bit at very low speed.
the brake have a step feel to it. it feels like the first 1/3 or half is really not doing much, while at a certain point it brakes hard. when I am slowly releasing the brake when trying to move very slowly, it won't move at first, then all of a sudden it kind of jumps.
is this normal? or do I need to get something checked out?

I changed the battery in my wife's 2007 Camry couple of days ago and the engine shakes at idle. It seems to be getting better so I am thinking the computer is relearning how to idol. Another problem it has now is the gas display. My wife says it does not seem to be showing the correct cruising range for the amount of gas that was pumped. Could this be from the computer having to relearn everything?

I've had a 2007 Honda Fit with around $130K for a year. Car performs ok but a recent problem started that I'm not sure about.
When accelerating after a full stop, sometimes it makes a sound like tires squealing and sometimes a thump. I notice it happens when I accelerate normally; if I do it gently it doesn't (but since I'm a former native New Yorker, "gentle" is not in my vocabulary). The squealing is not coming from my tires but from my engine. The thump happens only occasionally. And none of it happens when I'm driving; only when I start after a full stop.
Otherwise, acceleration and braking is no problem whatsoever. It may or may not be relevant, but this problem started only after I got the car professionally washed.

I have a 2007 Camry CE 4 Cyl automatic with 50K miles. I noticed when I have the air conditioner on and I put the car in reverse there is a pulsation feeling while I have the foot on the brake aslmost like a rough idle as I am backing up. When I turn the air conditioner off the pulsation stops. Not sure if its the brakes , air conditioner, tranny. The shift of the tranny seems smooth, upon accelaration. I have a 2007 Camry LE, with about 104,000 miles on it. Lately I've noticed a noise ONLY when the car is idling, rather in park or drive. I don't hear it all when I'm driving. It's somewhat hard for me to tell if it's coming from the engine or under the car, but its definitely near the front and sounds lower in the body. My first instinct told me that it was related to the exhaust system, but it doesn't quite sound like a rattle. It sounds closer to a belt struggling to turn...it actually sounds a little bit like when my water pump and alternator went, but I had those replaced 15 months ago so I really don't think it's that at all. I also had the radiator replaced 2 months back, so I don't think it's that. I don't know drive far to work, so I haven't put a lot of miles on the car in the last year.
Otherwise the car drives normally, just hear this sound at idle. The only other thing I've noticed over time is that when the car gets to about 2500-3000 miles after an oil change, I notice the light flashes when making hard turns..but that's it, and it goes away when I get the oil changed. Obviously I know that the engine is burning oil probably faster than it should, but I'm not sure if that might somehow be related to what I'm hearing above.
