Passat (B5) :: Power Steering Making Loud Squeal And Groan When Turn The Wheel

I picked up a '99 Passat 2.8 GLX tonight and the steering is making a loud squeal and groan when I turn the steering wheel. I checked the fluid and it's brown. I've owned a lot of VW's and Audi's and I've never seen brown fluid in one. I checked for a leak but there's so much oil everywhere from where the previous owner just had the cam seals, timing belt, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff changed. The level looks good, but it's just nasty and loud.

Touareg :: Driveline Bind When Making A Long / Accelerating Left Turn

Driving my '05 V8 around yesterday, I noticed a driveline bind like I get when making a long, accelerating left turn. Only this time, it was when I was going straight. It mostly happens when accelerating, right at a gear change. I find myself having to steer to the right to correct, then the bind, and the truck snaps to the left. I read up on the stepper motor issue on the FAQ's and it sounds like this could be a transfer case issue as well. I don't have a VAG-COM, so I can't scan for a code. I have checked all air pressures, and they're good. I have not noticed any abnormal tire wear, either.

I'm still getting a vibration/noise in the driver's foot well when feathering the throttle between 2500-3000 RPM, right at highway speeds, and it's enough to make you crazy. Dealership had the truck for over 30 days investigating this and blamed it on a bad tire. Two tires were replaced and put on the front. The noise is still there.

I'm also still getting what can best be described as a chain dragging noise coming out of the left side of the truck, apparently from the front end. I can hear it when driving with the windows down, up to about 35 mph, when wind noise masks it. The noise does not change at all with speed - it doesn't get louder, faster, or change pitch.

Nissan - Frontier :: 2000 - Clang / Clunk Sound When Turn The Wheel And Drive Making U-turn

Every day I make a u-turn around the median in order to get to our driveway...which means I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. As I turn the wheel and drive, there is a clannnngKK sound on the driver's side from somewhere near the front. I wondered if there is something getting hung up/caught "under there" but have no real working knowledge (obviously) of my truck's anatomy. It only makes this noise when I make this u turn. I've not heard it any other time.

Ford - Explorer :: 2008 V8 - Wheel Slippage When Taking Off From A Stop

I have a 2008 4wd V8 Ford Explorer Limited. About 9 months ago I had both front wheel bearings replaced. Immediately after they were replaced, I noticed a strange, new symptom. When taking off from a stop (either headed straight or turning), about 10-20% of the time I will get some wheel slippage.

I can feel the gears slipping, I don't think the tires are actually spinning and I'm definitely not flooring it and losing traction due to engine torque. When this slippage occurs, the loss of traction light goes on, and it always goes away in a matter of seconds and then everything is fine.

Once I noticed this happening I took it to the Ford dealership but they couldn't diagnose it since I couldn't mimic the problem with them riding in the car. They said it shouldn't have anything to do with the wheel bearings they replaced, but I think there may be an electrical connection that wasn't re-attached properly??

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: 2008 - Wheel Slippage When Applying Brake In Snow

This morning I was driving my 08 Lexus RX350 in fresh snow in Boston area. When I applied brake I noticed the wheel slipping/sliding and I heard brake noise (some sort of cracking noise - I don't know how to define that sound :-). It was fresh snow, may be an inch or two and I was driving around 10 miles. I have to pound on the brakes and it took few seconds before it stopped and I narrowly avoid hitting the suv in front of me.

I was driving with all season tires and ECT snow mode was not on during that time. Could that be a problem?

A week back I replaced the rear brake pads (akebono ceramic) & rotors (raybestos) at a local garage. Will it be a problem with the way it is replaced? or will there be any issue with ABS?

Yaris/Scion & Vitz :: Car Making Hum Every Time On Turning With 1/4 Turn Of Steering Wheel

For the last few months, I have been chasing down steering problems. Alignment, end links, ball joints... and now, humming. Every time I take a turn that requires more than 1/4 turn of the steering wheel, the car hums. It wasn't very noticeable at first, but over the last week it has gotten much louder.

I have topped off my PS fluid and replaced my belts, but this has not solved the issue. Before I start replacing a pump and/or a steering rack.

Touareg :: Front Is Sliding And Making Noise When Turn The Wheel In Cold Weather

In the morning (especially when very cold outside) when I back up my car out of the driveway and then put it in D, turn the steering wheel 85% it sounds and feels like the front is "sliding" and making a little noise. It will only do this the first time I turn the wheel when the car is cold. It does not happen when the car has been driven. Is this normal? is it the drivetrain? The car drives great otherwise and there have been no apparent issues.

Camry :: 2003 - Steering Wheel Started Making Squeaky Noises When Turn It

I have a 2003 Camry 'SE Automatic with almost 18,000 miles - that's right, low mileage. This week the steering wheel started making squeaky noises when I turn it. It doesn't matter which way I turn, it will squeak and it doesn't happen all the time. Should I be worried and what can I do about it?

NOTE: This started happening the day after we had got an 1 or 2 of snow. That morning when I opened the door to get the brush/scraper and little snow fell in the driver's side of the car. Perhaps a little fell on the steering wheel.

Passat (B5) :: Serpentine Belt Slippage On Takeoff Or Throttle Change

I know the serp belts were done on my 1.8T passat 25k miles ago. The tensioners were not done, of course.

While the engine is still cool I sometimes hear belt slippage on take off or throttle change. I was thinking to just replace the serp belts but then it occurred to me that it could be one of the tensioners causing the problem.

Are the tensioners prone to failure? Or I should just change belts? Car has 92k miles on it total.

It makes a noise as if I have my turn signal on, although when the turn signal aren't on, the ticking sound continues. I replaced the whole unit, and it did not fix it. Passat (B5) :: 2004 Wagon Making Noise When Turning The Wheel

My girlfriend has an 04 Passat Wagon (dunno how many miles on the odo), and it makes a groaning noise that gets louder and more pronounced the more she cranks the wheel. She took it in a few weeks ago to a place that specializes in European cars, and they changed the serpentine belt. Since then, the issue has gotten worse.

My very limited knowledge tells me that it might be the power steering pump, but I know next to nothing about this sort of thing, and even less than that w/re to VWs, except that the Germans sometimes engineer things a bit differently than most of the rest of the world. For all I know, the car doesn't even have a power steering pump and uses some other sort of electro-mechanical method to operate.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Truck Started Making Screeching Noise When Turn The Wheel And Moving At Slow Speeds

97 F150 4x4 around 200k miles on it, Drove the truck to town today and it started making a screeching noise when I turn the wheel and moving at slow speed's It is not the typical Ball joint squeak, and they were replaced about 6 months ago. I also get a clicking squeak going down the road, everyone in a while from take of ill get a slide grinding or crunching noise. Also noticed that when taking a curve to the right i feel and hear a slight Bump but I don't when turning to the left/

Also it doesn't have the typical grinding noise of a bad unit bearing, there is a slight roar but Pretty sure that it is just the aggressive tire's... I am about to go out and Jack it up and have a look at it to see what it was. Also if I loosen the Cv nut on at the Hub that would show me if there was any play in the bearing correct? since the cv should keep the bearing's fairly tight even if they are worn?
