Passat (B5) :: Power Locks / Windows Feature Malfunctioning

There is a feature of the lock mechanism whose name I do not know - When the key is inserted and turned it unlocks the driver's door, turned a second time it unlocks all doors, turn and hold and it lowers all the windows.

This is working intermittently. That is, the second turn does not unlock the other doors, nor does the turn-and-hold lower the windows. As a side bar, when it does not function, using the key to unlock the car it does not turn off the alarm.

I'd like to understand more thoroughly how this system operates so that I can more fully research and diagnose.

Ford A/C :: 1995 F150 - Clutch Never Cycles Just Starts Spinning

How often should my A/C clutch be cycling when the compressor is being used. (i.e defrost, mix, a/c and max a/c). My clutch never cycles, it starts spinning when I turn something on and it does not shut off until I shut off the a/c. The truck is a 95 F-150 4.9L 5 speed...

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: AC Compressor Starts Seizing Up And Burning The Clutch

So I just got done with my first 2 problems of the month with this truck last week. Front end and emissions along with spark plugs. Now, 4 days later this morning, I'm driving the truck trying enjoy the investment, and the AC compressor starts seizing up and burning the clutch. Unrelated but also worth noting, about an hour later the brake pedal gets real soft and the brakes get really sloppy at stopping the truck. The truck also stalled (auto trans) crossing a highway, luckily it was 5am and no traffic was coming.

I'm at $6k invested on a truck with 116,000 miles, and I've only put 6,000 on it. The repairs don't stop, and I've got many more ahead. Like rear suspension, axle, trans, and radiator fluids, and paint, to name a few. Any suggestions on fixing the AC before I drive this truck into a lake?

Ford - Ranger :: 1995 - Clutch Does Not Engage / Pedal Starts To Feel A Little Spongy

I have a 1995 Ford Ranger 4 cyl w/ hydraulic clutch, about 95k miles, and an intermittent problem. Normally, my clutch works fine, but a few times a year, normally during the summer, and normally only after driving for a half hour or more, it starts to act up. First, the pedal starts to feel a little spongy. Then, I'll depress the clutch, and when I release it, the peddle comes up, but the clutch does not engage; a few seconds later, the clutch engages fully instantaneously, which usually stalls the engine if I am stopped.

Then, when I try to reengage the clutch so that I can restart the engine, the clutch is very stiff, and I have to pump it a few times, at which time it will depress easily, and then I am usually back to the original problem where the peddle comes up but the clutch does not engage. When I finally make it home and the truck sits for awhile, the clutch then works fine again. I think it is the orig clutch. I have talked to several mechanics about this problem (including the Ford garage!), and they are mystified. One mechanic thinks that it is a problem with the master and slave cylinder combo, and can replace them.

Passat (B5) :: Fan Always Run When Car Starts

My fan on 2001.5 passat always runs when my car starts. Is that normal. Also is there any way to prevent and or remove oil sludge from your engine. Also I started my car for the first time this year and i noticed that the car didn't rev over 1000rpms and then come down after a minute. It just went to normal idle. My garage is not that warm about 5 degrees.

Dodge - Ram :: Tail Lights Malfunctioning

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup. My left brake light, both my rear tail lights and my front parking lights don't seem to be coming on. The 'Lamp Out' message was lit up.

I opened up the back covers and found the center brake bulb in the left tail light was bad. I replaced that. Now the brake light works, and the lamp out reading on the dash has went away. However, the tail lights are still not coming on, and we have noticed that when we turn the tail lights on, the front parking lights don't light up either.

We checked all the rear bulbs, as well as all the fuses that have anything to do with tail or parking lamps in the fuse panel with a meter. All fuses seem to be good.

Is it possible that one of the parking lights in the front could be defective causing the tail lights not to light up? Signals also work fine on front and rear, as well as the reverse lights & high beams.

Prius (2004-09) :: HV Fan Not Working / Malfunctioning

Driving home tonight...noticed SOC was PINK...2 to 1 bars. First thought was the HV FAN...!

I JUST did the HV fan maintenance the other day and I'm certain I buttoned everything back up correctly..... There are only 2 connections to the fan that I unhooked and then rehooked back up...... I'll re-open tomorrow to check for loose connections.

Is this symptomatic of the fan not working? and Is there any way I can test the fan?

I've driven the car for about 200 miles in the 4 days since the maintenance but I rarely keep eye on SOC so I'm not certain what it's been reporting thru that period...Just looked tonight for some reason. Maintenance light has been on for awhile before I performed this ....but I'm guessing that's just Oil change needing to be done.

Prius V :: ECM Malfunctioning - Blown Fuses

A dealership is attempting to charge me several hundred dollars to replace blown fuses that they claim is a result of an overpowered attempt at charging a seemingly dead 12V battery. The interesting part is that after also replacing the air/fuel ratio sensor (which they initially claimed was the cause of a check engine light even after replacing the fuses) Toyota is telling them that the ECM should be replaced in order to extinguish the check engine indicator.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Right Rear Sensor Malfunctioning

Well, I am approaching 80k miles and the ride in my 04 GX470 had gotten very bouncy. So I had a mechanic friend run a diagnostic check and the right rear sensor was malfunctioning. My friend recommended to replace both rear sensors but my wife is "frugal" so we only replaced the malfunctioning unit. Well a month or two later we are back to the bumpy ride. I haven't had my friend check it out yet but I'm guessing either the other sensor or both are malfunctioning now. Now I don't want to get into a fix part "a" of suspension and part "b" malfunctions soon after.

Ford - Escort :: 1998 - CEL Says VCT Solenoid Is Malfunctioning?

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2, 2.0L DOHC. I recently had the check engine light come on with code that basically says my VCT solenoid is malfunctioning. It is not very easy to find information about this part, I see that it is expensive, and time consuming to replace. I don't really have the time or money, the car still runs with 120k.What kind of consequences would I run into if I decided not to replace the part. The only thing I can find is that I would not pass emissions.

Nissan - Maxima :: 2000 - What Is The Cause Of Alternator Malfunctioning

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima GXE four-door sedan, which I purchased new. In May 2008, at 39,556 miles I had to replace the alternator. In January 2011, at 45,201 miles (+5,645 miles) I had to replace the alternator again. Now, in December 2013 at 49,630 miles (+4,429 miles) I have to replace the alternator for the third time. It just doesn’t make since that the less I drive, the more often I have to replace the alternator. The replacement alternators were remanufactured and not purchased from a Nissan dealer. Do you know what would be causing the alternators to fail? Do you think purchasing a new alternator from Nissan dealer would solve the problem?

Passat (B5) :: Car Takes Many Attempts Before It Starts

I have a friend who owns a 1.8T Passat, and she is having difficulty starting her car. From what i know, her car takes a VERY LONG time, and many attempts before it turns over and finally starts. Currently it take many more tries to get it started. Her battery seems fine, as the car turns over strong, and all electrics work. Also, after her car starts, she has been noticing that it is underpowered, and vibrates hard. It has been over a year since her spark plugs were changed. Correct me if im wrong, but having a turbo powered engine, do the spark plugs wear out faster then naturally aspirated engines. Am i right to assume that the spark plug is the cause for her car not starting, and vibrating hard after it starts.

Passat (B5) :: 2000 VW GLX No Longer Starts

I have a 2000 VW Passat GLX with the Monsoon system. 3 weeks ago I had a Kenwood x 696 installed by Car Toys and everything is great.

That is until I turn my car off for over 24 hours.. at that point it no longer starts. When I had my stock radio in there were times that I would leave my car off 2 to 4 days at a time and never had any issues.

I had the battery tested and there are no issues. Then I got all of the electronics checked out and it was determined that the Monsoon amp was staying on when the car is turned off.

On Saturday I took the car back to Car Toys and they told me that it was not the stereo. They found something that told them to reset the amp by pulling the fuse and that most likely that would fix the issue. This was Saturday and my car didn't start today.

Passat (B5) :: AWM 1.8T - Smokey Cold Starts / No CEL

Getting quite a bit of smoke at start-up in the mornings. I expect this from my diesel Jetta but not from my 1.8T. The car has 185,000 km on it and I'm the original owner. Maintenance has been followed to the letter - correct VW-spec synthetic oil since the first oil change as well. There are no major issues with the car..............aside from the smokey starts that started recently. No CEL or codes either. What could be up it?

Passat (B6) :: Starts But Then Immediately Stalls

I've had this intermittent issue for a while where the car won't start properly. What seems to happen to me is that it starts properly, but then immediately stalls. Normally during a start it will start at about 1200rpm then quickly idle back to under 1000 and then slowly reduce some more. Now at about the same time as I would expect it to idle back to 1000rpm it stalls. After this happens, it seems like I can keep reproducing the failed start over and over again if I try to start the car again. If I wait 30 seconds or so and then try to start it, it usually works.

On two or three occasions I got a warning on the dash about faulty steering lock. Checking in VAG the only errors shown are related to those, no other codes. This has happened many times over the course of perhaps two months. It's been colder during this period, but generally it seems the error happens more often when its a little warmer weather and not really cold. Lately I've been inserting the key part way, waiting a few instants for things to initialize and then starting and it seems to work every time.
