Passat (B5) :: Loud Crack Noise When Stepping On Gas After Hard Braking
Passat Front End Noises? Loud "crack" noise when stepping on gas after hard braking....I thought...control arms gone again (replace em @ 55K miles)...so I replaced all the control arms... NOISE LESS but still there! I've replaced motor mounts and just checked them..no leaks, so engine shifting cant be it... I replaced the "stretch torqued" subframe bolts when I did lower rear control arms..so they're tight...What can it be??
View 18 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Air Sucking Noise Heard Mostly At Idle?
I have a 97 F150 4.6l, and this morning I noticed a noise that sounds like air sucking in. You hear it mostly at idle, the truck is idling where it typically does, but occasionally it will "bog" down a bit for a couple seconds, but then keeps running normally. Anyways the noise seems to be coming from the lower drivers side. Under the dash/steering column, and around the front drivers wheel well. Could it be a vacuum leak? The truck does have lean codes. I'm not sure if this is relevant but if I'm at a stop and I release the brake to accelerate the noise will stop for a split second once the pedal is released....
View 1 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: Poor Brakes At Low Speed And Sucking Noise From Pedal To Booster Connection
Odd thing on the 97' Ranger that showed up today. I was backing out of the spot at the local Shell station, (on an incline) and the pedal went to the floor. Never happened before. I pumped the brakes a few times, and they came back. On down the street, slowing for the stop sign, pedal went to the floor again.
Not throwing codes, fluid levels are good, only seems to happen at lower speeds/idle. Sometimes pumping brings the brakes back, sometimes they come back all of a sudden.
I can hear a "sucking" kind of noise coming from where the pedal connects to the booster, up under the dash. I looked at it, and nothing *appears* to be broken.
It almost feels like the pads are against the discs, and the pistons/calipers have to reach for them before the brakes apply. (If that makes any sense)
There should be about 50% of life left on the pads, but i haven't pulled the fronts wheels yet to look.
Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Clicking Noise At Shifter When Stepping On Brakes
My son just bought a 09 Corolla LE and he gets this clicking noise every time the brakes are applied. The clicking noise comes from the Shifter.
I know that about the Shift Lock Solenoid, but this clicking sound is loud. I have been told that this is normal. So, I thought if this is what 10th Gen owners here is experiencing the same.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Occasional Clunk Noise When Stepping And Releasing Brake Pedal
I get a clunk noise when stepping on and releasing the brakes occasionally but not always. This occurs even with the engine off and the vehicle stationary. I also hear some other noise like some sort of vacuum servo thing is happening.

I recently purchased a 2014 Prius with the package 5 trim. I'm completely loving the car, but noticed when stepping on the brake pedal I hear a soft "swoosh" noise from under the dash. Almost like a short vacuum or sucking sound. The car has 500 miles, and I don't recall hearing that noise initially.

View 3 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: 2011 - Sucking Sound Coming From Gas Tank?
I have a 2011 Prius, only owned it a couple of months. Today while it was idling I noticed a sucking sound coming from the gas tank. Not constant, sort of a second of suction then a second stopped, and repeat. Thought maybe the gas cap wasn't on right, opened it and closed it again, then finished driving where I was going to monitor it. The sound continued until I turned the car off. Went to try it later in the day and there was no sound, but I don't exactly trust that it's a non-problem yet.
View 11 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Sucking Sound Coming From Engine Bay When Throttle Was Pressed
Ok, driving home tonight from boarding (semi hard driving) car started running and shifting weird, loss of power, weird shifts in drive. At first red light I could hear a sucking sound when the throttle was pressed,or downshift tranny in manual mode. If you put the car in neutral going down the road and stab the pedal about the third time throttle will maintain 3g rpm. Babied it home, popped the hood blipped the throttle and there's def. a huge sucking sound coming from engine bay. I lightly sprayed intake/vacuum hoses/airbox etc with starting fluid and no change in idle. cant see anything loose. WTH?
View 24 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: STX With Pulsating Sucking Sound When Cold
2009 F150 STX with 4.6L 3 valve engine. When first started there is a pulsating sucking noise (sounds like a small vacuum pump at where I work) that has started to come from under the hood. Only does this for about 10 seconds or so and then goes away. The colder the engine is when started the worse it is. I have also noticed that about 10 or so seconds after you shut the engine off you can hear a valve of some sort opening up and a rush of air. I think this is coming from the passenger side by the radiator. Where this sucking noise is coming from? And is this valve release at the end normal? The truck has about 48K miles on it so don't know if this would be a warranty thing or not.
View 2 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: 1999 V6 - Engine Making Sucking Sound Occasionally
My 1999 Ranger with 4.0 EFI V6 engine makes a "sucking sound" occasionally. At first I thought it was a belt slipping, but now I believe it is some kind of intake air leak. If I stop the truck while the sound is on, I can open my driver's door and get to about the front of the hood before the sound stops. I have never been able to observe the engine with the "sucking sound" on. Sometimes the engine will kill when the "sucking sound" stops, if the engine is idling and in gear. If I just keep driving normally, there does not seem to be any permanent problem. What the problem is?
View 4 RepliesTouareg :: 2004 V6 Began To Stutter When Stepping On Gas
My 04 V6 began to stutter when stepping on the gas today, after running fine for about an hour. It was all of a sudden like driving on a rumble strip. When stopped, the idle was totally erratic and the car barely ran. I called the dealer and they indicated that the coils have been recalled ( received an email on this, this past week) and said to tow it in...not drive it in. These are the exact symptoms of the coils going bad. Its in being fixed today...under the recall. This came on so fast it was amazing. Just thought I would warn everyone to have it taken care of now as they said if you drive it too long, it would be pumping gas into the exhaust system....then BOOM.
View 6 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 - Revs Up Without Stepping On Gas
Yesterday, my 2002 Elantra started to rev ferociously (I was turning a corner in 1st gear), so I put it in neutral, and the engine calmed down. I shifted back to 1st, then 2nd, and the engine started to rev up again without me stepping on the gas. I pulled over and stopped the car. After 10 minutes, I started the car and put it in neutral. The engine idled normally, then started revving up again - really fast - all by itself! I left the car overnight and this morning, put WD-40 on the accelerator cable and today it drove fine, so far.
View 4 RepliesSanta Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: No Response When Stepping On Gas - CEL Illuminated
My wife was driving to work this morning in her 08 Santa Fe (2.7) and said she had very little/no response when stepping on the gas.
Check engine, ESC off, and the AWD light (drivetrain light) were all illuminated.
She turned the car off and when she turned it back on, only the CEL remained illuminated - it drove better, but still rough.
AutoZone pulled the codes and we've got P1295, P2106, and P2135.
From what I've seen on this site, it sounds like the TPS - would those codes be consistent with that issue?
Also, since we're just out of warranty, is that something I can fix myself? Looks like a pretty easy part to replace ... but I've heard there's something about have to flash the ECM?
Honda - Accord :: 2001 - While Starting And Stepping On Gas Car Not Going Anywhere
I have a 2001 Honda Accord (LX SEDAN 4 DOOR, 4 CYL). Am a bit paranoid after reading online about all the transmission problems people have with this car. The other day when I was starting up from the stop light it had a moment where I was stepping on the gas and it felt like I was in neutral-- not going anywhere. This is the only time it happened and it was only for a few seconds.
Wondering if you think this is the sign of an impending transmission failure or whether it just needs some kind of maintenance?
Prius V :: Sound When Stepping On Brake First Time In The Morning
For the last several days, every morning when I stepped on the brake the first time in the morning, there was a "ka-luck" sound. Then throughout the day, the brake had no such sound and behaved normally. Is the "ka-luck" sound normal and why it happens? Winter/Rain?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Power Loss And Loud Air Sucking Sound
Pulled out of the restaurant I ate dinner at tonight and I lost most power and there's a loud air sucking sound. I felt around all the boots and didn't feel any air, but it was really hot and couldn't feel a whole bunch. It's a 2003 7.3 with 295k. There is a little smoke/soot coming from the turbo area, any chance that's related? I'm perplexed...
View 10 RepliesHonda - Civichybrid :: 2006 - Complete Loss Of Power When Stepping On Gas Pedal
This first occurred about 2 weeks ago, I had a complete loss of power when stepping on the gas pedal. The engine did not rev or anything, completely unresponsive and the car was just gliding. I've had loss of battery power in the past where the engine was still going, just straining hard, but this was not like it as now the engine was completely not responding either.
I can't recall if it was going up or downhill -- it was around time the incline changed in a freeway ramp that began up and then moves down. At first I thought it was me accidentally putting it on neutral as I have a habit of resting my hand on the shift knob, but putting it in/out of drive did not work initially but after the 2nd try everything was back to normal so I thought nothing of it afterwards.
But if happened again this morning, again on a hill transition, either right before the top of a hill or right as I was coming down it. This time I know I did not have my hand on the shift knob. It resolved itself about the same, I had to shift in/out of drive a few times and it worked fine again a few seconds later.
I've been good with maintenance and changing out everything that they recommended, and also did the IMA battery recall upgrade.
