Prius (2010-12) :: 2011 - Sucking Sound Coming From Gas Tank?
I have a 2011 Prius, only owned it a couple of months. Today while it was idling I noticed a sucking sound coming from the gas tank. Not constant, sort of a second of suction then a second stopped, and repeat. Thought maybe the gas cap wasn't on right, opened it and closed it again, then finished driving where I was going to monitor it. The sound continued until I turned the car off. Went to try it later in the day and there was no sound, but I don't exactly trust that it's a non-problem yet.

Ok, driving home tonight from boarding (semi hard driving) car started running and shifting weird, loss of power, weird shifts in drive. At first red light I could hear a sucking sound when the throttle was pressed,or downshift tranny in manual mode. If you put the car in neutral going down the road and stab the pedal about the third time throttle will maintain 3g rpm. Babied it home, popped the hood blipped the throttle and there's def. a huge sucking sound coming from engine bay. I lightly sprayed intake/vacuum hoses/airbox etc with starting fluid and no change in idle. cant see anything loose. WTH?
View 24 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: STX With Pulsating Sucking Sound When Cold
2009 F150 STX with 4.6L 3 valve engine. When first started there is a pulsating sucking noise (sounds like a small vacuum pump at where I work) that has started to come from under the hood. Only does this for about 10 seconds or so and then goes away. The colder the engine is when started the worse it is. I have also noticed that about 10 or so seconds after you shut the engine off you can hear a valve of some sort opening up and a rush of air. I think this is coming from the passenger side by the radiator. Where this sucking noise is coming from? And is this valve release at the end normal? The truck has about 48K miles on it so don't know if this would be a warranty thing or not.
View 2 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: 1999 V6 - Engine Making Sucking Sound Occasionally
My 1999 Ranger with 4.0 EFI V6 engine makes a "sucking sound" occasionally. At first I thought it was a belt slipping, but now I believe it is some kind of intake air leak. If I stop the truck while the sound is on, I can open my driver's door and get to about the front of the hood before the sound stops. I have never been able to observe the engine with the "sucking sound" on. Sometimes the engine will kill when the "sucking sound" stops, if the engine is idling and in gear. If I just keep driving normally, there does not seem to be any permanent problem. What the problem is?
View 4 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Power Loss And Loud Air Sucking Sound
Pulled out of the restaurant I ate dinner at tonight and I lost most power and there's a loud air sucking sound. I felt around all the boots and didn't feel any air, but it was really hot and couldn't feel a whole bunch. It's a 2003 7.3 with 295k. There is a little smoke/soot coming from the turbo area, any chance that's related? I'm perplexed...

After 1-2 mins I turn off my car I hear a popping sound from under the car. Usually it goes after some sounds of cooling down the metal and ticking, and then a pop sound. Nothing during the driving. I did some research and found that it may be Catalytic Converter cooling down or the heat shield.

View 2 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: 2014 / 2.4L - Sudden Shut Off When Driving At 65 Mph
A week ago, my wife and I were driving on the highway when suddenly our 2014 Santa Fe decided to shut off at 65 mph. When I say shut off, I mean EVERY SINGLE THING IN THE CAR DIED. All of the interior lights off, headlights off, instrument cluster, EVERYTHING. Being cool, calm, and collected, I immediately shifted into neutral, cranked, and all was back to normal. Not in the 2 years that we have owned this car has that EVER happened! I chalked it up to an inexplicable electrical anomaly.
Tonight, again, the same thing happened under different circumstances. This time, I was following her. She came to a stop at a red light, then once she lifted her foot off the brake, everything shut off. I instructed her to immediately put the car in neutral and try starting it. Like last time, it turned right back on. Apparently, there seemed to be an issue with the previous generation with the 2.4 motors.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Sound From Stock Horn With Car Alarm
Every time my car alarm goes off, the horn sounds like a clown car. The kids on my 10 year old baseball team even joke about it--its that bad. So, is it just me or are y'all embarrassed when the alarm goes off?

I've noticed several times, already my heated steering wheel will automatically turn off at random times.
During the winter months i keep it on almost all the time, but noticed occasionally it just shuts off, and even gives the message in the dash that the heated steering wheel is off.
Last time it happened, i was driving for about 25 minutes, at a stop light. Whats odd is its been on for 45-60 minute drives with no issues.
I don't even think it could be diagnosed by the dealer since I don't know what the trigger is.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Random 4 Note Series Of Beeps While Driving
In the past week, my 2013 Santa Fe has started playing a random 4-note series of beeps while I'm driving. It sounds like it is coming through the audio system. It is a ditty that goes up in scale, 3 short notes followed by a longer one. It sounds a bit like something you'd hear in an old video game. The notes are C-D-E-G, C-D-E-G, where the C, D, and E are short, but the G is held out for two beats.
Nothing appears abnormal- seatbelts are on, doors are closed, xm radio is on (this has happened while tuned to different stations, so it's not just a radio thing). I just had my first oil change the day this started.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Squeaking Sound From Rear Hatch / Cabin
Our SFS LTD started this high pitch constant squeaking sound in the back of the hatch/cabin. We can't figure out where it's coming from. It doesn't seem to have any relation to the suspension (going over big bumps), and occurs on regular driving on flat terrain or regular street bumps/turns, city/highway...
We figure something is rubbing in the back or perhaps its due to a bulletin from the 2008 SFS (welding fix in the rear panel)?
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Rattling Sound Coming From Engine When Accelerate
Well I have been hearing a rattling sound coming from my engine when I accelerate around 55-70 for a second and then coast. Once I start coasting I hear some type of rattle noise coming from the engine. I just got back from the dealer and was told that the mid-section to my exhaust was bad and it needs to be replaced. The part # is 28600-4z300. I looked it up and it costs $1400 now, but it is on sale for $1000. I am hoping that this will fix the issue I am running into right now.
This problem adds to the list of crap I have been through with this car starting at 4000 miles. First a blown timing chain blows my engine, then my car goes into the shop 4 different times over a month and a half for a overheating/coolant issue. Had to get the engine replaced because apparently my "NEW" re-manufactured engine was leaking coolant into my engine. Now only 2 months since that has been put in I need a new exhaust..
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Hissing Sound Coming From Underside Of Vehicle
I have a 2016 SFS 2.0T.
For the past week or so, I've been noticing a hissing sound coming from underneath the car near the front driver side area.
It almost sounds like air being let out of a tire. It only happens when the car is turned on, and the sound is there when the car is in park or in gear.
Not noticing any change when driving the car.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Quick Beep Sound When Starting Vehicle
I am hearing a new beep sound (It's a quick double high pitched beep) when I start my car. What it could be? I do not see anything that indicates there is an issue with the car (i.e. no warning lights) but it double-beeps every time I start it now.

I've got a case of dash rattle. I hit a small bump and I hear a small but plasticky rattle sound from (I think) the center of my plasticky dash. IT BUGS ME!
I wonder how I'd be letting the dealer tear apart my dash. The car has been on the road a full 2 months... First new car with dash rattle.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Audible HVAC Fan / Making Squealing Sound As It Spins
During the recent cold snap I have noticed that one of my HVAC fans has become audible and makes a squealing sound as it spins. If the radio is on loud enough you cannot hear it, but without if is ANNOYING to say the least. I know it is the HVAC fan for sure cause when it is switched off, it slows and stops with the fan. Should I wait it out and see if it disappears during the eventual return to warmer weather or have it replaced? If so, what is involved? Is it an easy fix or does the dash have to be removed to get at it? If it is the latter, I am inclined to wait and see if it goes away on its own..
View 5 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Head Unit Sound Source Input Levels?
I have the 2017 SFS, I think it uses the same head unit as the 2016 SFS, but not 100% sure.
Anyway, noticed that the XM radio sound is louder than, say, FM/AM?
On my old car I had a pioneer head unit where you could adjust the input sound levels, based upon the FM levels. (ie, XM input is +2 vs. FM, and CD is -1, etc.)
I can't find this in the sound menu (seems very basic to be honest).
